So, I had the brilliant idea of linking my old laptop with my new one in a Windows 7 HomeGroup. I figured it would save me the bother of transferring my files from the old laptop to a portable hard drive to the new laptop. Well, I tried, and it would take about ten times as long to do the transfers via HomeGroup. So here I go plodding along the old way. At least my new laptop has USB 3.0.
Did you attach it to your router and make the files public to your intranet/homegroup? That way you just have to install the programs in your new computer and access the files from the old one when you need them.
Oh, the two are connected, but I wanted to move them to the new laptop, as I’m not keeping the old one up and running. Using WorkGroup to do that is akin to watching paint dry. Much faster to transfer them to and from a portable HD.
I can’t imagine that his grandchildren think much of him — since his own son says Grandpa Mitt gets in the front of the line at every family gathering, gets his plate filled up first, sits down, and eats before the kids even get their food! That would NOT go over well in my family!

Where did a political party go so wrong that this is the best on offer
According to Bloomberg News, Mitt Romney is taking advantage of a tax loophole to pass off a fortune to his children without paying taxes on it. According to administration figures, this loophole costs the government $1 billion over a ten-year budget window:
In January 1999, a trust set up by Mitt Romney for his children and grandchildren reaped a 1,000 percent return on the sale of shares in Internet advertising firm DoubleClick Inc.
If Romney had given the cash directly, he could have owed a gift tax at a rate as high as 55 percent. He avoided gift and estate taxes by using a type of generation-skipping trust known to tax planners by the nickname: “I Dig It.” [...]
The Obama administration estimates that closing the loophole Romney used would bring the federal government almost $1 billion in the coming decade.
That’s how the rich get richer DF - Romney didn’t give it a thought until he wanted to be the President. I’m still wondering why he is running - when he slinks home to the new car elevators, all those rich neighbors are going to know just how big an AH he is.
myth responds to this by saying pbo is ignoring the needs of defense contractors:
‘ Introducing President Obama in Virginia Beach, retiring Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.), condemned Mitt Romney for failing to mention veterans or the military in his GOP convention speech.
The omission was all the more damning, Webb suggested, because Romney is of an age where he might have served in Vietnam but did not. ‘
‘ Democrats in blue states are beginning to use GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney more in attack ads against Republican congressional candidates.
In the Hawaii Senate race, Rep. Mazie Hirono (D) launched a spot Wednesday that aims to tie former governor Linda Lingle (R) to Romney by pointing to remarks the GOP Senate nominee delivered at a rally last week. ‘

“Are you registered to vote at your current address?” asks Douglas Johnston, a volunteer wooing voters outside the county courthouse. “Do you know about early voting?”
The effort, it seems, has borne fruit - to the tune of more than 250,000 new registered voters in North Carolina since April 2011, according to Obama’s team. That’s more new voters than the campaign has registered anywhere else in the country.
It’s an eye-popping total in a state that Obama won by just 14,000 votes four years ago. WASHINGTON-After overnighting in Chicago, First Lady Michelle Obama heads to the battleground states of Iowa and Wisconsin. She hits a rally at Lawrence University in Appleton and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Iowa started early voting on Thursday and the Obama campaign is making a big push to lock in votes as early as possible.
The “you started it” reference in Mrs. Obama’s Tweet is this: Obama won the Iowa caucus during the 2008 Democratic primary season-Iowa was the first state to vote-and the victory propelled Obama on the path to win the Democratic nomination-and the White House.
Democrats are pushing neighborhood canvassing and labor union vote drives to lock up votes before Election Day, said Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Sue Dvorsky. Her party needs to generate lots of support through early voting to counter massive spending by outside interests supporting Republicans, she said.
“This is a critical piece of our organization,” she said. “We do it well, and this time we are going to do it very well.”
Matt Strawn, former Iowa GOP party chairman, said political analysts should take the Democrats’ commanding lead in absentee ballot requests with a grain of salt.
Strawn acknowledges Democrats were helped in the 2006 and 2008 elections by making early voting a priority. But he said the Iowa GOP made big gains in early voting in 2010, helping the party capture the governor’s office and other key races.
The Iowa Republicans’ playbook is simply different than the Democrats’, Strawn said. They will make their big push later, including a mailing to 1 million Iowans, he said. That will close the gap for absentee ballots in coming weeks, he predicted.
“The Romney campaign in Iowa and the coordinated Republican campaign” for all Iowa GOP candidates “is building upon the efforts that we had in 2010. So it will be a larger-scale operation” for early voting this fall, Strawn said.
A long and busy day of voting here in the People’s Republic, as first day early voting numbers tripled the totals from four years ago.
The line was short at the beginning of the day at the Auditor’s Office, with just a half dozen or so waiting when the window opened at 8. But traffic picked up and stayed steady all day for a total of 469. Party breakdown: 335 redgistered Democrats, 77 Republicans, and 56 no party voters. Four years ago, 150 people voted at the office on opening day.
But the BIG push was at the Iowa City Public Library, where a line of self starters formed early and was joined after 10 AM by a large crowd from a Democratic rally. 277 folks showed up at the library on early bird day in 2008, but today the number skyrocketed to 766: 521 Democrats, 45 Republicans and 198 independents.

Don, it’s safe to say she is not alone. To tell you what Newt is, he call Mitt Romney a liar on tv, and now he is running around supporting that liar, it speaks volume as to what kind of person Newt is.
Newt is a very bad loser - but that aside - his description of President Obama is just bigoted and vile - the man who has worked harder than any President in the past 50 years - but all Gingrich sees is the color of his skin - horrible despicable - and all those words you said.
Former president Bill Clinton is hitting the stump for President Obama in New Hampshire next week.
He will headline an event in the Granite State on Wednesday, the same day as the first presidential debate in Colorado.
The Obama campaign did not say where Clinton will appear or what the event entails, except that it will be “in support of President Obama.”
Clinton, whose favorability rating has hovered in the high sixties, is expected to continue helping Obama in the final weeks of the race. The campaign on Thursday sent an email to supporters saying Clinton and Obama would appear together in California next week.
Vice President Joe Biden to visit Boca Raton, Tamarac, Fort Myers on two-day campaign swing in Florida
BY MIAMI HERALD STAFF
Vice President Joe Biden begins a two-day visit on Florida on Friday with stops in Palm Beach and Broward counties.
He is first scheduled appearance will be at the Century Village Clubhouse in Boca Raton. He then heads to the Palace Theater at the Kings Point Condominum Clubhouse in Tamarac. On Saturday, he will be in Fort Myers.
President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are locked in a virtual tie in Florida, according to the latest Miami Herald/El Nuevo Herald/Tampa Bay Times poll. Obama is drawing 48 percent support to Romney’s 47 percent among likely voters — a lead well within the poll’s 3.5 percent error margin. Only 4 percent are undecided.
Other polls in swing states show Obama with a larger lead over Romney.

Pres Obama stays in town today - but he has three campaign fundraising events on his schedule this afternoon & evening.— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) September 28, 2025
On the Today Show Andrea Mitchell snottily reports that President Obama was too busy campaigning yesterday to meet with Nut un Yahoo. Then she aired a clip of Willard saying that Obama has thrown our closes allies, like Israel, under the bus. Then Willie Geist introduced “the political Dream Team” of Brokaw, Gregory and Todd. (nightmare would be more like it). Brokaw slurred something about Willard should be able to make more hay on Libya, which somehow has become Obama’s fault in anti-Obama people’s minds. And he sounded almost giddy about the possibility of something big changing the trajectory of the election. Creepy. And they all agree that the debates are the Biggest Thing Ever—-I think this is because this is all Willard has now. I think it’s a big fallacy that the debates are significant in any way—-there are no real undecideds to influence, both sides will say their side won, it’s a draw. And——this is unbelievably funny to me——did you know that Obama can barely speak, that he’s not good at this speaking thing at all? That’s how they’re making it sound. They’re asking people to believe up is down. Todd said Obama was just a horrible debater, that he’s lost every debate, that Joe Biden won the presidential debates during that primary! That was a new one I’ve never heard. Again, the political dream team was a joke, the biggest, most dishonest nightmare of all time.
This morning I am both proud of Iowa and embarrassed as well! Very proud of all the voters who packed the early voting sites yesterday to get this show on the road. Every report I heard was that the auditors’ offices did not expect nearly that many to turn out - here’s hoping the trend continues for each of the remaining days until Election Day! I’ll be at the Johnson County auditor’s office at noon to drop off our ballots.
What embarrassed me was opening the opinion page of the Des Moines Register today (http://www.desmoinesregister.com/opinion) and finding a nasty editorial about PBO by Rep. Steve King. This guy is such an embarrasment to Iowa, I don’t know why the folks “out west” keep voting for him. Every time one of his dumb quotes hits the news I just cringe. I really, really hope he gets defeated this year with the new redistricting lines - but I doubt it. Anyhow, I don’t recommend reading his drivel - but the comments against him are pretty good.

And…
A long and busy day of voting here in the People’s Republic, as first day early voting numbers tripled the totals from four years ago.

This is excellent. Wasn’t the MSM braying that this would not be anything like 2008 (meaning it would be much LESS)?
Wonderful - the dem:republican mix is amazing - is this usual? or simply that Mitt isn’t inspiring any early voters.

So, this ain’t about Obama, it’s about your Momma!
Very cool!
Thomas Franks on tv sticking up for the Tea party and bashing this Presidents handling of the bailouts.
I saw it another way, but this Guy Thomas Franks is no Leftie. If I had to guess, he is another Libertarian.
I have seen him on Spitzer’s show many times.. He is the author of ” What’s the matter with Kansas ” and more recently ” Pity the Billionaire….
A former college Republican he is very critical of Conservatives now and says it is because of George W Bush. He comes across as pompous to me
A former college Republucan? That says a lot right there.
Exactly!
So is it safe to say that you don’t like Newt?
Don, it’s safe to say she is not alone. To tell you what Newt is, he call Mitt Romney a liar on tv, and now he is running around supporting that liar, it speaks volume as to what kind of person Newt is.
Newt is a very bad loser - but that aside - his description of President Obama is just bigoted and vile - the man who has worked harder than any President in the past 50 years - but all Gingrich sees is the color of his skin - horrible despicable - and all those words you said.
Newt’s a turd.
Yay! Retweeted!
But but but People are walking over broken glass to spend money at Home Depot and…
Isn’t it lovely, how young as they are, babies somehow have a good read on the character of a person?
Those pictures are priceless! Not surprising that babies can sense something evil about Romneybot 2.0. I’m sure dogs would react the same way after what he did to poor Seamus.
“By-my-count” Knoller is on Twitter trying to solicit snide remarks from RWers…
He says that like it’s bad thing.
Sadly, it’s the Republicans that have changed the Today Show, into yet another bash Obama fest.
They Lobby hard, and probably promise ratings.
Mooooooooooorning everyone:
