I LURVE that picture, THANK YOU!

Of course, I ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ all the baby/toddler pics that have intent facial expressions on the two participants. I firmly believe that PBO communicates with these little ones, and they with him, without words.

They’re looking up at vc as she descends from her throne and takes her place as #1 in TOD. They are in awe of what they behold….it’s a new day :) ROTFLMAO!!

But jokes aside, I’ve always been a bit curious about and fascinated, if you will, by what could possibly simultaneously and so intensely capture the attention of our President and the infant he’s holding - while the people around them seem oblivious to their point of focus…..

I’m not kidding, Hopef, I honestly believe that someway, somehow PBO and most of the babies/toddlers he holds or looks at intently talk to each other. In this case the two are in their own world - they heard a voice calling them (as in the God calling Samuel story?) ;)

Vc, I have that photo on my screen, and every time I open up my computer on one screen, I say a little meditational word about strength, help, same accord, heart to heart, look up unto the hills for whence cometh my help, and take care of the little children and be blessed.

It always moves my heart to see how in tune President Obama is so at a calmness within his space and spirit with the precious little ones. I believe that they feel his gentle goodness that is at the core of his being. I do. HZ

Yes, these pics move my heart too, HZ. They are so ‘pure’ and for the moment of capture the communication often seems to exclude whoever else is in the vicinity.

My first wacking by a nun (who turned out to be 80 at the time, we found out when she died two years later at 82) was in 8th grade in 1960 (but don’t ask me what I had for lunch yesterday). She said she didn’t want to hear a pin drop, and I accidentally turned to my “neighbor” in the seat next to me and whispered a question. I was sitting right next to the nun because I was technically teacher’s pet (but wild as a cat behind her back; we once not only changed seats with each other to confuse her, at my suggestion, we also moved the actual desks). She said, accusingly, “Jacqueline [we weren’t ever allowed nicknames in Catholic school, but I digress], come here. You - you dared to speak to ‘your neighbor’ when I said I didn’t want to hear a pin drop.” And then she slapped me across the face. Turns out I had never been slapped in the face before (well, except for confirmation, when I thought the bishop was going to slug me and must have looked terrified, because he patted my chin and said, “You okay, hon?” but I digress), and when it didn’t hurt at all, I almost laughed in her face. Almost.

              The end.

OH, JOB, I think you would have DEFINITELY felt that slap from multiple sources if you had laughed in her face. I only encountered nuns in Sunday school and when we were let out early for ‘religious training’ on Wednesday afternoon and taken to our churches. They only sent the very youngest to these inglorious assignments and most of them were too new to be mean.

Looks like they are making progress on a two year budget deal. Senator Patty Murray deserves hazardous duty pay for having to work with that creepy, lying, nutjob Paul Ryan. Little Luke Russert wrote an informative update on it:

“While the politics of the healthcare law and immigration play out this week, Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., are quietly working out the details of a possible two-year long budget agreement. This would be significant because it would avert the threat of another government shutdown and allow both sides an opportunity to “regain some trust,” according to a Democratic aide.

What could a deal look like?

Details are being kept purposely vague, but sources familiar with the ongoing negotiations have sketched out the following details:
•The two-year deal would likely cover fiscal year 2014 and 2015.
•It would set the top line budget number for both years. That’s important because it’s what the appropriations committees will work with when they decide how to allocate funding for specific government programs under the funding guidelines set by that top line.

•That top line budget number would be in the neighborhood of appropriating $967 billion to $1.058 trillion each year. Possibly in the $990 billion dollar range, though the specific dollar amount in not yet known.”

European storm and tidal surge cause evacuations and travel chaos.

A major storm has hit northern Europe, leaving at least four people dead or missing, causing transport chaos and threatening the biggest tidal surge in decades.

Dozens of flights were cancelled or delayed in the Netherlands, Germany and Scotland, while rail services were shut down in several countries.

One of Europe’s longest bridges - connecting Sweden to Denmark - closed.

Tens of thousands of homes were also left without power as the storm hit.

Winds of up to 228 km/h (142 mph) battered Scotland, where a lorry driver was killed when his vehicle was blown over near Edinburgh. At least two other people were injured by falling trees.

    Then I remembered that

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/sen-landrieu-i-would-support-obamacare-again/

Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats in 2014 due to the Affordable Care Act’s troubled rollout, told WAFB in New Orleans on Thursday that she would vote for the bill all over again.

“As I said, the bill itself has very good concepts, and yes, I would support it again,” Landrieu said. “But that doesn’t excuse the poor rollout of what should have happened. There should not have been a glitch in the software.”

      • 78 GGail
        December 5, 2025 at 1:37 pm

But japa - I think she was wrong to expect it to roll out without any glitches. I can’t think of any software products that have rolled out with no glitches. I like Mary and I hope she gets re-elected - however…

        • 79 japa21
          December 5, 2025 at 2:01 pm

Maybe, but the key here is that she is, overall, supportive of the ACA and is going to run with it in a red state. The glitch thingy throws a sop to the voters but in the bigger scheme of things is irrelevant. And the real rpoblem with the rollout, despite the reasons for it, is that the glitches were not minor in nature, thus providing real ammunition to opponents.

I am not a big fan of Landrieu, but for being from LA shes not bad.

      • 80 Nena20409
        December 5, 2025 at 1:39 pm

        Thanks. Japa21.

She right there. Had the Glitches not been a focal point for 8 weeks……by now, Dems would have extended their Generic lead. 8 weeks of non-stop attacks hurt. That was on those who gave POTUS the wrong information. The exceptions as usual became on POTUS by the lame, lazy media instead of on getting the website fixed. The website was fixed over 2 weeks ago…..yet the media continued on their attacks.

    • 81 pkayden
      December 5, 2025 at 3:12 pm

I would like to say to Ms. Landrieu and other Blue Dog Democrats: So what if there was a glitch and if the roll out didn’t go as well as expected? Can we drop that now that the website has been fixed? Are we going to hear about the website problems for eternity?

I just got on so this may have already been addressed, if so sorry. I am planning to catch up with the older posts later. When I read them all to catch up it seems I am always behind the conversation.
There was an article on NPR this morning interviewing people on both sides of the issue of a higher minimum wage. There were two fast food strikers in NYC interviewed. Towards the end of the interview the journalist said that wage inequality has grown faster than ever before during Barack Obama’s time in office. Then he asked them if that would be this President’s legacy. Immediately I thought new talking point for the GOP and wondered if the two being interviewed would have researched enough to counter that line? They both did a decent job on the comeback mainly saying this had been a problem in the making for a long time and this President had to address many issues. There are a lot more things that could also be said to counter that line. It is my thought that the commentator should be flooded with counters on his line to bury it very quickly and lay the blame on the GOP where it belongs.

    • 90 Lovepolitics2008
      December 5, 2025 at 1:58 pm

Constantly amazed at the fact that everything is attributed to the President. What Congress does or doesn’t do is of enormous importance on domestic affairs. The funding of programs… it’s them. The budget… it’s them.

The American culture is completely obsessed with the presidency; this results in a president being blamed for the obstruction, the inaction of a hostile House, a hostile Senate, or both. This makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.

The myth of the omnipotent president could be mitigated if America had a wealthy media. Divided government requires a media that is very good at INFORMING people. A media taking time to explain who is doing what, who is proposing what, who is blocking what. A media pushing back against political spin.

With the sorry state of the american media, no wonder people are so confused. No wonder the cynical politicians can get away with everything.

      • 91 hopefruit2
        December 5, 2025 at 2:08 pm

“The American culture is completely obsessed with the presidency”

The culture is obsessed with THIS President - and in many ways, positive. But the GOP-owned media is trying to harness the cultural obsession and turn it into a negative by exaggerating his missteps,, deliberately mis-attributing bad events/situations to him, downplaying his strengths and accomplishments, and spreading dishonest propaganda. At the same time, they are practically ignoring anything related to the GOP - in an effort to make their glaring flaws go unnoticed.

    • 92 pkayden
      December 5, 2025 at 3:19 pm

Does the journalist not hear President Obama advocating for an increase in the minimum wage which would counter the growth of wage inequality? It should be pretty clear to everyone that it is the Republicans who are against the working class (anti-union, anti-increase of minimum wage, anti-healthcare reform, etc.).

      • 93 ERICFIVE

That is precisely why the MSM/GOP will work overtime in attempting to blame PBO. It won’t work, but this is what they are paid to do (i.e. deflect blame from the GOP and ownership class). Raising taxes on the rich is a concrete step PBO took to address the issue (and the GOP fought him every step of the way).

It was “ordinary people” who donated to PBO’s campaigns and elected him President twice. It would be wise not to conflate the anti-PBO memes and narratives peddled by the MSM/GOP as reflective or representative of the beliefs of ordinary Americans. More and more of them are tuning out the propaganda (notice the cratering ratings across the board).

According to his account, Nena, he seems to be making progress.

          //……
I was otherwise healthy my whole life – 35 years old, an athlete into college, professionally doing important work I’d only dreamed of, and finally about to be married and start my own family. Fighting to survive a catastrophic disease was NOT part my plans.

Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to have insurance through my employer and my cancer was treatable and curable they said. Thankfully, because I had insurance, they said, if I gave them the next year for treatment, they’d give me back the rest of my life.

But imagine if I didn’t have access to health insurance through my job. Until that week, just 16 months ago, I could have made the case that I almost didn’t “need” to spend money on health insurance. Technically, with only yearly check-ups and mostly needing only over-the-counter medicines, I could have afforded to pay for my healthcare needs myself.

However, if I hadn’t already had insurance the day I had that conversation with my oncologist, I would probably never be approved for insurance in the individual market, or I would have had to pay outrageous premiums just for access to the same services that would save my life, because I didn’t just have cancer, I now have a preexisting condition.

These folks have mothers, wives, girlfriends, etc……Everyone of them is a woman borne yet……They Don’t Get Us Women in 2013?

Those are probably the women foolish enough to vote for the GOP already. The purpose of the “outreach” is to trick/con other women into voting against their interests too.

    Jay said:

The problem TBGOPers have had with women is not how they should talk to women. It their policies. If the want to help women, they should support the Minimum wage, increase it. That is the best way to help women for it helps boost women wages.

Debbie W-S was interviewed by Wolfie a little while ago, and started cracking up about the TBGOP sensitivity training, and basically said the same thing … it’s not how you talk to women, it’s what you’re doing against them that is why you’re losing the women’s vote.

Fox doesn’t bother then, for deep down inside……They Love what Fox is doing. They also know people who work at Fox and they all want to work at Fox…..it is indeed a win twisted win for these DC/NY pundits.

      I. Want. To. Scream.

The run-up to the Iraq War - THAT was propaganda.

Never in modern history has an administration been virtually barred from informing citizens about their rights under a new law. THAT’s criminal.

I knew they wouldn’t charge Florida St. QB with sexual assault, because——football and big money. The QB, Jameis Winston, leads #1 ranked FSU, playing for championship game this weekend, named ACC player of the year, leading candidate for Heismann. But this case has been troubling, seemed to be a cover-up, since the accused attack happened last Dec., prosecutor not informed by Tallahassee police about the charge until questions finally arose from media—-10 months later. Girl/her family said she was told by police that she should re-think these charges, that Tallahassee was a big football town, that her life would be made miserable. His atty. first denied any contact, then when DNA tests finally done which connected Winston to evidence from girl’s underwear, said sex was consensual. Then rumors that girl was drunk—-so her fault?—-but alcohol tests she submitted to showed an .04 level, a low level of alcohol in her blood. Girl has since left college and went home to Tampa, her life indeed made miserable by those attacking her in social media etc.——crowd cheered loudly for Winston at game last week.

The questions from the jackals are always accusatory, snarky and dripping with sarcasm. Jay Carney is schooling Jim Acosta who had the nerve to ask wasn’t President Obama responsible for some of the inequality. Unbelievable. PBO has spent the last five years trying to clean up the wreckage left by the Bush administration while implementing his own agenda. And no, as Jay noted, yesterday was not a pivot. PBO was talking about inequality back in the 2007 campaign.

      December 5, 2025 at 2:33 pm

All Acosta wanted to know and could not wait to report on was ” The body language ” between Clinton and PBO at the Medal of Freedom event…

He actually said that out loud….standing in front of the White House.

      He seem juvenile

        December 5, 2025 at 2:46 pm

Oh yes, I remember that body language nonsense from Jim Acosta. I called that tabloid trash. The jackals really are just gossip columnists. They are all more suited for coffee klatch gossip. It’s hard to believe these folks get big salaries to ask such stupid questions.

April Ryan just asked how does President Obama plans to address the inequity issues. Jay (bless him) said he outlined that in the speech yesterday. Apparently April got some feedback from someone that the speech was not specific enough. Meanwhile, President Obama did say that the speech was not a state of the union. And finally, we do have a congress and they have a responsibility to govern. Sheesh…..

    Jay:

I will NOTE that what PBO said yesterday has been consistent with his policies since 2007 and before……In terms of wages, income inequality, etc.

The reason I love to listen when possible…..for Jay speaks for what PBO wants said.

Yes the DC WHPC are a bunch of idiots looking for attention. But the answers are what draw me to these briefings. I try to catch one or two every week.

Nena, I could not have said it better myself. I watch the press briefings for Jay ‘Clark Kent’ Carney. He has President Obama’s back and that’s one of the main reasons why I am crazy about him. But also, he is just adorable with those glasses.

Hi Vicki, one of my weaknesses is to watch video segments of the earlier (P)BHO. I get great pleasure from seeing his constancy, as well as knowing how much of what he talked about he actually has accomplished or is accomplishing. To use my very favourite refrain these days - I feel #BlessedToBeAliveInHisTime.
