D-ette, honey, you are a real treasure! I have never heard that before, but I <3<3 it! My grandma was *my* real mother, although my mother was right there. TY, and a very happy aunty-mommy day to you!
Thanks Carol Mae. A fish fry sounds great!
We’re doing a barbecue at Mom and Dad’s. Grilling chicken and turkey burgers instead of hot dogs and beef burgers though. :-)
Thank you, Dudette. I have always loved the great work of Mr. Alvin Ailey. The beauty that he put together in his choreographs of “Cry” with Judith Jamison as the “Prima” was just brilliant. This beautiful Ballet dedicated to Black mother and All mothers became one of his most beautiful pieces. I have the photo of the dress that they had to make over for Ms. Jamison for this performance. A lot of beautiful history and one of the most brilliant performances by Judith Jamison. Thanks for bringing this great dancer and choreographer, Alvin Ailey to our TOD family. A celebration for all mother, I feel. Beautiful mothers all over the world., to you all be forever loved by all of us.HZ
Meet Ms. Judith Jamison in LA at the Music Center. What a joyful experience. Every time I walk into my music room/library, that painting facing me as I enter. I dedicated that room in memory of my mother since she loved reading, singing, and playing the piano. One of my favorites in my modest condo. HZ
CarolMae, they are so beautiful. We need a lovely meet up with Danny, Bo, Sunny, and the TOD extended family for a’ Play Day’ at the WH. Now that would give the grumpy ones something to talk about. HZ
That would be so fun! During 2012 campaign on OFA FB they asked people to send in photos of pets and how they helped us campaign for POTUS. We took one of the boys by our Obama/Biden yard sign. ;) People sent in cutest photos.
“..With the clock running out on the seventh and final round of the 2014 NFL Draft on Saturday evening and the St. Louis Rams holding two of the last eight picks, Rams coach Jeff Fisher turned to general manager Les Snead and team president Kevin Demoff and said, “Let’s go get Michael Sam” — and the NFL changed forever……
"15 mins before history was made, only 1 man had a clue what was about to happen" http://t.co/AxcBAGKtkM @MikeSilver pic.twitter.com/vqzVGosQT7
— The Lovely Plains (@DaRiverZkind) May 11, 2025
…..Late Friday night in Fisher’s office, as the coach met with Demoff and Snead, the subject of drafting Sam came up, and it was quickly dismissed. Yet privately, Fisher was contemplating the possibility that, if Sam remained on the board in the draft’s latter stages, he could simultaneously get value and strike a blow for acceptance and respect. On Saturday, as pick No. 249 neared, Fisher decided it was time to welcome Sam to the Rams’ family. He called Rams owner Stan Kroenke and told him of the plan, receiving a favorable response……
…At 5:48 p.m. CST, the pick was called in, and the war room grew silent. Fisher rose from his seat and walked over to the pair of large television sets in one corner of the room, and scores of coaches, scouts and other Rams officials joined him. A couple of minutes later, when the pick was flashed on the two screens, the room erupted in applause, and Fisher began receiving hand slaps from nearly everyone in his vicinity. A few minutes later, as he paced excitedly around his office, Fisher revealed to me that he’d been privately considering the Sam move for several days. “I’ve been thinking about it,” Fisher said. “Look, he’s a good football player. We’re glad to have him. We got better when we took him. And we’re gonna do everything we can to get the most out of him. It’s exciting.”
It’s also historic — and until about 15 minutes before history was made, only one man had a clue what was about to happen.
“In developing countries, clean drinking water is not a given. According to the World Health Organization, every year, around 3.4 million people die from water-related illnesses. To put it in perspective: That’s roughly equivalent to Los Angeles’ entire population. Accessing clean water often means waiting in line for a truck to haul it to you, boiling it (an energy-hungry option) or running it through a ceramic filter (expensive). But the truth is, more often than not people don’t clean it at all.
A new project from the Water Is Life organization is looking to simplify the purification process with a high-design solution. The Drinkable Book, as it’s called, looks like something you’d keep on your coffee table, but it’s actually a full-on water purification system…..

….Each page is its own little filter that can clean up to 100 liters of water (that’s around a 30-day supply). This means each book can provide a single person with up to four years of clean water. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon and University of Virginia developed a special kind of paper that’s coated in silver nanoparticles, which kill bacteria. “Some socks use silver nanoparticles to prevent fungus from growing on athletes’ feet,? explains chemist Theresa Dankovich, the project’s lead scientist who has been researching this process since 2008……”
In church today, our associate minister, Lori, had special prayer for the girls of Nigeria and their parents. She had put slips of paper with the first names of the girls, as many as she could find, on the altar table, and for those names she couldn’t find, she put “Unknown. Child of God”. After church we were to pick up names to take home and keep praying for. It was very moving, and people certainly took the name slips, some people more than one. The teenagers and children took more than one each, I know. A moving sight was a young mother standing at the table with her two children, picking up names. It is wonderful to attend a church where today’s problems are a focus.
Our pastor always says “…..for the only world we have……” we must act and give.
A small but important correction. The one kind of slip said “Child of God. Name unknown.” Which is much better than the way I had remembered it. The girl isn’t unknown, just her name at this point.

Comment of the Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Department of Information Policy on the true public opinion in the South-Eastern regions of Ukraine
”
The clumsy attempt of the so-called referenda is not just illegal and illegitimate for a number of reasons, it tries to hide a bald statement of the fact that the vast majority (70%) in Ukraine’s east prefer unity, whereas mere 18% support secession, according to recent surveys conducted by the authoritative Pew Research Center in Ukraine in April.
The similar results were made public earlier by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) together with the Mirror of the Week (Dzerkalo Tyzhnya) weekly. According to the polls, about 15% of people living in the South-East of Ukraine want their region to be part of Russia, whereas in Donetsk region this figure is 27,5%.
However, opinion surveys also indicate that the fundamental grounds for protest are of economic origin or are related to security concerns, and not, for instance, a language issue. Only 6,5% of people living in the South-East of Ukraine are concerned with imposing Ukrainian language.
The problem is that this vast majority of true Ukrainian patriots and supporters of united Ukraine are being intimidated by the pro-Russian terrorist groups and under the threat of live they are afraid to voice openly their protest against the bandits and their collaborators.
Ukrainian government is committed to an inclusive political dialogue that will address the immediate needs of this important minority, resulting in the constitutional reforms on decentralization and empowering the regional communities. In the meantime, presidential and local elections due on May 25 are one of the principal ways to ensure that the interests of this minority are duly represented in power.
Thus, holding fair and free elections all over Ukraine is the top priority for Ukrainian government as a follow up to Geneva accord of April 17.”
Hahahahaha! Thank you, Yardarm756DD! Isn’t that the truth! Happy to see you back here, on the bridge, keeping the good ship TOD on course. Smooth sailing again. X
President Obama’s legacy: A foundation for peace
Let’s be honest - after the terrorist attack on 9/11 this country went on a bit of a freak-out…wars, torture, Gitmo, terror threat levels, TSA, warrantless surveillance, etc. Its easy to simply blame the Bush/Cheney administration. But the truth is, they got re-elected after most of that was underway. So there’s plenty of blame to go around.
……………………..
I can understand the arguments the President’s critics make against his implementation of a War on al Qaeda. But they are left with either making a case that the threat doesn’t exist or offering alternatives to deal with it. I almost never hear either one. That’s why a few years ago I began to speak up about the need to end this particular war and to track the Obama administration’s signals that they were attempting to do so.
We are now six years into the Obama presidency and not only is Osama bin Laden dead, but there have been zero attacks by al Qaeda on American soil. Last year, with very little fanfare from his critics on the left, the President called for an end to this “indefinite war.” Other than preventing another great depression and passing/implementing health care reform - I believe this will be his great legacy.
