Don’t slap me upside the head, but I looked just now at the snapshot of people chanting ‘Si, se puede’, and cynically wondered how many of them voted on Nov. 4. I like what PBO is saying, yet a part of me is wondering if those present are getting the point that the REPUBLICANS are, and HAVE BEEN the OBSTACLE or are they simply focused on what they will get from PBO.
I know what you’re saying, and it’s the same way I feel about all emoprogs, from Lt. Choi to LBGT activists who #BlameObama, and make #Demands.
The lack of respect shown to this President, who has demonstrated that he deserves the *most* respect of any modern President by those who feel “entitled” for X, is so unappealing.
I don’t know who this person is (except that she’s an American citizen, an actress on Orange Is the New Black) but she wrote an OpEd in @latimes which described her parents and older brother being arrested and then deported to Colombia when she was 14, but she did not whine or demand.

Sort of like the Homestead Act of the 19th century in reverse — was a law, and now isn’t.
There were existing native american laws when Europeans first got here. I don’t think the immigrants were in compliance.

This President can save a bus load of white kids from Fox from drowning, and these haters would find fault in him doing that. Because all they see is that blackness. And they hate that.
That is so true, They just hate, it doesn’t matter what happens, if it comes from the President it isn’t right. I am so proud of this man.
There is an old saying “Haters gotts hate”. Once they have decided the target of their hatred, nothing can turn them away from that. Only when the object of their hatred is no longer around (i.e.when PBO leaves office) will that particular hatred disperse. But they will find something else to vent their hatred on. If there is another factor underlying their need to hate, i.e. racism and bigotry, the hatred can be hotter than otherwise. But they really can’t exist without being hateful.
Thus, for your own mental health, it is best to avoid them, unless you can find it in yourself to laugh at things they say. There will be no way on God’s green earth you will ever get them to stop their hatred.

Fox Dumps Obama Speech For Interview With Anti-Immigration Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Fox News dropped its coverage of President Obama’s speech on immigration in Nevada, switching to an interview with Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is suing the administration over the administration’s recently announced immigration actions.
Fox, CNN, and MSNBC all carried the beginning of Obama’s speech live. But at 4 p.m. ET, Your World with Neil Cavuto began. After describing the contents of the speech while airing the live video feed of President Obama, Cavuto stated, “as he’s talking, I want you to meet the sheriff who’s suing” and began to interview Arpaio.
Arpaio announced today that he would be suing the administration, telling a local TV station that, “This is going to open the door. Everybody in Mexico, Central America, thinks they will have a free pass when they come into our country because of what the president is issuing.” Arpaio is a prominent birther who was found by state law enforcement agencies to have failed to investigate hundreds of sex crimes and is subject to an independent monitor after a federal judge determined that his office racially profiled Latinos.

Wow! Powerful speech. I had an experience where I was crying. I could really feel the America he was talking about. It’s been a long time since I felt that way. It really is like he holds our hopes and dreams for us and brings them to life. I love President Obama and am so glad he is our President.

I’ve been on twitter for a long time and I’ve never been so heavily trolled as with this immigration issue. I don’t respond and quickly block their racist ignorance but man, it’s creepy.

It’s the fear, meta. They believe they are going to lose their jobs, economic security, end up in the minority. At some level, I feel sad that so many are so uneducated, particularly in the South. What galls me is when I hear some of these same arguments from folks who are pretty highly educated, at least in terms of formal education. To those people, I say do your research and stop watching Fox.
i agree it’s the fear. even with rational explanations, like the reality that most immigrants serve in low-paid jobs that you don’t want for yourself, the fear remains. because it’s indeed about being in the minority. for people who have been deriding, insulting, abusing, and taunting minorities all their lives, it’s very scary to imagine themselves on the receiving end of all that!
It’s definitely about power and fear and losing majority status. That is a reality that they will face and they are scared to death.

But I do still feel a terrible revulsion every time I realize how deeply, deeply ingrained racism really is in our country and how a lot of those same people try to pretend it doesn’t exist. I know this and as a Latina have certainly experienced it in my life but sometimes it just hits you hard in the gut.
