On This Day: President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama walk with their daughters Sasha and Malia to attend an Easter service at St. John’s Church in Washington, D.C., Sunday, March 31, 2025
Morning. I guess all eyes will be on Lauzanne today as the Iran negotiations move into the final hours. I hope with all my heart that they come to an agreement.
I’m so glad to see some people in Indiana starting to wake up. Bigotry is all very well behind closed doors where the white sheets are stored, but when you take it out in the sunlight, it’s putrid. Indiana legislators and Gov. Pence thought no one would notice the putrid stink. Now they have and people are turning away from the state and taking their money with them. The bigotry game isn’t fun anymore when it starts hitting them in the pockets.
It’s funny though Jackie, someone on Twitter just told me the same paper had a horrible cartoon about immigrants recently - I’m assuming the author of the editorial didn’t approve.
I don’t think the paper has seen the moral light as much as the financial one. The immigrant issue hasn’t defined itself in dollars lost, although it does have a huge economic impact. But on the so called ‘religious freedom’ issue, they’re seeing the dollars drain away from the state. If there had been no reaction from businesses and organizations, I doubt this paper or anyone else would have said a peep.
Well, the coincidence is spooky: I just noted he shredded yesterday’s newspaper in the living room, the carpet is no longer visible, he went through every supplement. So no, I will NOT be getting that doggy as a companion for himself!
The original P5+1 agreement is in tack until June 30th. Today is for the framework to get to a solid deal by then. So…….if nothing happens today, they will continue on…….
Linda, thank you for that informed perspective. The media cares nothing for truth and everything for sensation. If everything isn’t all worked out today, there will be glaring headlines about FAILURE! TALKS COLLAPSE! It’s all so predictable.
My understanding is that they must have a general framework agreement by today’s deadline and have agreed to working on setting down the all the details through June. But who knows? As Kerry says, we will know by today….

Despite Lavrov’s optimism in this statement, there is no chance that UN sanctions will be immediately lifted.
However, one thing we can be certain of is that Secretary Kerry operates on little to no sleep. He and PBO have the most stressful jobs in the world, but Kerry is under such intense pressure now, with the MSM ready to pounce and denounce, regardless of the outcome of these negotiations. :(
Good morning. Sadly, you are correct: no matter the outcome, there will be an onslaught against PBO. He’ll either be a dictator siding with the Middle East or a complete failure. UGH.
At this point, meta, I doubt whether PBO gives a fig what others say. He’s repeatedly said that if there is an agreement, he will be thoroughly acquainted with every detail and will be able to both defend and sell it. Kerry knows what President Obama will accept and he’s working toward that end. This is where John Kerry-the consummate professional-shines. He knows exactly what needs to be done and he will do everything in his power to do it, if he can. No matter what the rubbish media says or how much the war mongers howl, reaching this agreement with Iran is a huge historic milestone and it will be recorded in the history books as a huge achievement.
I think they have to agree on specific details and bottom line demands from each side today. An “extension” will be through June to put all the various agreements specifically in writing that is acceptable to all parties.
It’s all part of hard diplomacy. No one is gonna walk away from this empty handed after putting in so much time, money and effort. They all know this kinda opportunity doesn’t come along every other day.
The problem, AMK, is that a vengeful US Congress, bent on imposing stricter sanctions, could be the spark that disrupts the whole process and shows bad faith on the part of the US. That’s why I think it will be a stronger agreement then just an extension of negotiating time. Kerry is well aware of the pressures back home and I think he will hammer through to get something that will give PBO legislative ammunition he needs. We’ll see. For all our sakes, I hope it’s something more substantial than just an agreement to talk some more.
And this, Arapaho, is what gave us Richard M Nixon. All polls at the time showed that Johnson would have won re-election. I couldn’t stand him, but he was St. Francis Assisi compared to Tricky Dick.
Morning everyone:) Thinking of the Iran deal today, but would rather have the right deal than a fast deal…This art of diplomacy is arduous and those that think we should drop bombs and start wars….have no idea how very difficult this is. Much harder to keep the peace and have important dialogue than to drop a bomb on people. I wish them forward progress today and applaud their tenacity and resolve to get this done/ The MSM can go eff off.
morning amk…it is fitting that I received my email reply this morning from Sen. Flake…I sent him an email right after the treasonous 47 issue…he was not one of them. I wrote to say thank you for not including his name on that POS idea. The other one, got a nastygram. Haven’t heard back from him yet….no surprise there.
You are precisely right…no fast food lanes here…took a long time to become suspicious “enemies”…will take time to make this right again. So proud of all the parties talking to work this out for the world. They are setting a huge example on what to do right, for anyone willing to pay attention and learn. I wish them all well…
Dudette, if we could get a Democratic congress and Democratic president together at one time-even for a couple of years-we could fix all this idiocy. It’s beyond appalling that some states can legislate in favor of open bigotry without violating a federal law.
It violates equal protection clause, but someone’s got to sue to get rid of this crap either that or new legislature but repeal << but that means people need to vote the bums out.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday dismissed Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament Dilip Gandhi’s remarks that all studies linking cancer to tobacco have come from abroad and that there is no Indian survey report to confirm it.
“Do not listen to these things. Science is science. You cannot compromise on science,” the minister said, disapproving the statement of Gandhi, who heads the parliamentary panel on subordinate legislation examining the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.
Gandhi had on Monday said all studies linking cancer to tobacco have come from abroad and that one should consider the Indian aspect too.
Gandhi’s statement left the Bharatiya Janata Party red-faced with Javadekar facing questions at a press conference on his remarks.
Looking ravishing this morning, Chips.
Well, thank you very much Judith, you are the only person to so far note the ravishingness - I am grateful :-)

Morning. I guess all eyes will be on Lauzanne today as the Iran negotiations move into the final hours. I hope with all my heart that they come to an agreement.

Ah, nail on the head, Jackie. It always comes back to bucks, not just doing the right thing.
Good Morning….
CNN has a countdown clock going for the Iran Deal…..seriously.
Good gawd - they probably also have a countdown clock for when Wolf is next due to go to the bathroom.

Just a reminder to the media…
The original P5+1 agreement is in tack until June 30th. Today is for the framework to get to a solid deal by then. So…….if nothing happens today, they will continue on…….

They drive me crazy…….especially CNN
GOOD SIGN:
Fabius and Steinmeier to remain win Lausanne and Lavrov is on his way back.
HOPE!!!!
….”in” Lausanne..
But now I’m seeing this:
Seems to me that this comment is on track with the original agreement……
A framework by today and then the technical phase between now and the original end date of June 30th.
Yup, makes sense :)
My understanding is that they must have a general framework agreement by today’s deadline and have agreed to working on setting down the all the details through June. But who knows? As Kerry says, we will know by today….
That is not to say that they have not been working hard on the details. But I think it’s about the specific drafting of a document.
Okay - thanks meta for the clarification! Makes sense to me.
GM Meta, TODville.

Yes, indeed. Among all his other grand achievements.
“At this point, meta, I doubt whether PBO gives a fig what others say.” <— THIS right here
I don’t think PBO and Kerry give a ratsfuck what emmessem thinks and does.
Yesterday it was reported that all the people that need to sign the agreement are now in Lausanne.
Good Tuesday Morning People of TOD ;-)
fatter than jtp. who cudda thunk?
jtp?
jenny the pig. not, joe the
plumberpig.:-D
My prediction on iran talks. They will agree to extend the due date. There is no mcdonald’s solution to this.
I think they have to agree on specific details and bottom line demands from each side today. An “extension” will be through June to put all the various agreements specifically in writing that is acceptable to all parties.
An extension will be given even if the bottom lines are not met today.
Well, PBO has said this is it and I tend to believe he doesn’t bluff but I guess anything can happen……
It’s all part of hard diplomacy. No one is gonna walk away from this empty handed after putting in so much time, money and effort. They all know this kinda opportunity doesn’t come along every other day.
Well, don’t forget he’s also got Congress breathing down his neck on sanctions. He’s held them at bay until now.
He also knows that the world events don’t revolve around US congress, especially this treasonous ones.
The problem, AMK, is that a vengeful US Congress, bent on imposing stricter sanctions, could be the spark that disrupts the whole process and shows bad faith on the part of the US. That’s why I think it will be a stronger agreement then just an extension of negotiating time. This. 15 years of mutual antagonism ain’t going way in 15 months. Especially, with the rethugs constantly backstabbing.

Sigh! Similar one is making the rounds in Georgia too. Really disgusting!
