Poor BriWi. Has so little to say that isn’t scripted, he turns to the totally unscripted Chris Matthews, to give it a whirl.

I know where I come down on that one. The role of a free press is much more than to play sportscaster to the “game” of politics. It’s position was established in our Bill of Rights in order to ensure that citizens have access to the information they need to participate intelligently in our democracy. Part of that job is to call out politicians who lie and/or distort the truth for their own political

While waiting for the POTUS news conference, CSPAN had a split screen to cover Mitch McConnell blathering about the budget bill. He chose to use a quote about being willing to shoot a hostage. Is that an appropriate quip to be saying these days? Just this past week, the Univ of Iowa President got in a lot of trouble for saying unprepared teachers “should be shot”. http://www.press-citizen.com/story/news/education/2015/12/15/university-of-iowa-president-bruce-harreld-sorry-saying-unready-teachers-should-shot/77353568/ Time to upgrade your quotes, gents. :-(

Since much of this thread is about the media, bringing this over.

Didn’t have time to post this on the last thread when there was discussion (once again) about the media.

Last night on our way home from Nashville, we stopped at a small local restaurant for an early dinner. There were two other couples in the place and one of them left shortly after we arrived. In a few minutes, a couple came in and chose the table right next to us. (The other couple was all the way across the restaurant.) We struck up a conversation w/them. Learned they were from Woodbridge, VA. We said we had lived in Fairfax area for 17 years. Learned a lot about our backgrounds……They were traveling to NO for the holidays. Talked about college football and other things. We introduced ourselves…….just a wonderful conversation. Then, the guy asked what we thought about the Republican candidates and specifically, DT. So, we got into that discussion. They are Hillary supporters, though not huge. Like us here, they don’t care for Bill and the thought of him being in the WH, but do believe Hillary will win and that she has the experience and will be a good president. They both hope to live to see our first woman elected. ****The thing that the man brought up in regards to DT (and the rest of the clown car) is the media. He said that DT would not be where he is if it were not for the media, said some other things along those lines and ended with “I simply do not trust our media today, not even a little bit.” Validation for me that many people do “get it”. I just hope there’s millions upon millions of those people and they will get off their asses and VOTE.

Chris Jansing just said it would be so much more difficult to get a Democrat elected President with President Obama’s approval numbers being down. I still believe the MSM plays with messages and poll numbers to try to have sway in the elections.

      December 18, 2025 at 3:31 pm

Hello Obama Grandmama. How are you? Hope all is going fine. Yes, Chris Jansing is hoping that we will just stick some approval numbers on our foreheads as we go to the polls and shut off our memory and brain functions of how much our President has done from the moment he walked into that Oval Office. She does not notice that we have long term memory of his record and what will be a great legacy for him for decades to come. These haters are so full of crap. But we have his back. (((((Love you, Obama Grandmama))))))))HZ

I just took out my Obama 2016 calendar to write a few appointment dates on it. I was thinking “Drat! This will be my eighth and last Presidential calendar I ever put up as I cannot imagine another President ever inspiring me to this degree again!” I think having PBO leave office will be one of the biggest let-downs in my life. It may be on parr with losing my husband to a premature death. I will try to refrain from thinking about it till then and count my (our) blessings of having him in office for another year. We are fortunate that we recognize his greatness in real time as compared with those that will only come to realize it after he leaves office.

Hi,OG! As I know that I’ll go into mourning at noon on January 20, 2017, I vow to savor every remaining moment of the Obama era. Additionally, to ensure the rethugs and newstainers can’t rewrite history I’m preparing a questionnaire for my family to complete on their involvement with the campaigns, issues, their memories of the era, news clippings, photos, test of key speeches, etc. I will consolidate all the info and publish our personal review of the Obama years so that no matter what the “opposition” says, my family will have a personal narrative to draw from.

            Me too!
After reading about the history books leaving out slavery and giving other reasons for things and knowing that many are trying to make PBO’s Presidency illegitimate I also am planning to write a journal and scrapbook with the items I have saved from the campaign and his years in office. Not sure whether I will just keep it or send it to the BO Presidential library. The idea that when I die my kids would just toss it bothers me.

Well, I’ve made PBO treasure boxes for my grands and have been saving newspapers, mags, pics, campaign lit, etc. The crown jewels of the box are campaign produced copies of the speech on Race, and the Pointer Institute book of newspaper front pages from the ’08 election.

Why don’t these cable pundits like Chris Jansing shut up? 2012 all people like her and Chuck Todd said was how it was going to be so hard for his President to be re-elected, because of the economy, because of his poll numbers, anything they came up with to put doubt in voters mind, Todd kept telling us that people weren’t turning out to Obama events, they weren’t excited like the Romney crowd, but our President was re-elected.

This nifty little invention is about to make the world a place without spills caused by funnels and wide-mouth jugs. My daughter is working with the inventor of this thing called the No-Spill Spout, it is really very clever. They are hoping for support on Kickstarter to initially fund the project, even $10 will help them with their dream.

    Here is the link:

I’m bringing this link again as I could not be more proud of my daughter and the work she is doing, all around the world. This campaign is her brilliance: scripting, camerawork, editing, and you can hear her voice, and watch her hands (and her little feet!) as the demonstration is developed. Please watch and share all over the place!! <3 Yes We Can!

Going out to see the movie this evening with the younger cousin who went with me to Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies back in the day. our party will include his wife and his 16 year old daughter, passing the geek torch to another generation. This White House is so cool. I know that the children that MO invited to the viewing of the movie will have almost as good a time as their parents.

OT. It will be 85% on Christmas Day in NE Fla.

Yes, Dudette. POTUS outlined what we at TOD have been observing and commenting about.
Early in January 17 Detainees will be released.
PBO said that the goal was to reduce the Guantanamo prison population to a number that would make it entirely uneconomical to keep Gitmo open.
The “forever prisoners” about 60 of them will need to be transferred to the US.
President Obama seems to believe that the economics of the situation will overcome the politics as the number of prisoners shrinks.
      I agree with the President.

These boys have a hard time with PBO being their CiC…

Former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel revealed in an extensive interview published Friday that he had approved plans to strike Damascus with Tomahawk cruise missiles after Syria’s Bashar al-Assad crossed the “red line” by using chemical weapons – but President Obama told him to stand down.

The interview with Foreign Policy comes nearly a year after his acrimonious exit from the Obama administration. Still smarting from the circumstances of his departure, Hagel told Foreign Policy that the White House tried to “destroy” him even after he resigned.

The interview explored the tensions between Hagel and others on Obama’s team, but offered particularly revealing details about the backstory to the president’s decision backing off his “red line” with Assad.

The former Pentagon chief said that decision in 2013 dealt a big blow to U.S. credibility.

“Whether it was the right decision or not, history will determine that,” Hagel told Foreign Policy. “There’s no question in my mind that it hurt the credibility of the president’s word when this occurred.”
“A president’s word is a big thing, and when the president says things, that’s a big deal,” Hagel said in the interview.

A senior administration official defended the decision to Foreign Policy, saying Obama was not prepared to take military action without consulting Congress first – and the diplomatic deal that had Assad relinquish his weapons resulted in a Syria “free of its chemical weapons program.”

    • 86 CEB
      December 18, 2025 at 4:57 pm

Hagel does not get a nuanced approach to Foreign policy in situations that are fluid. This idea of sticking to a course of action even when circumstances may change is what had us in Iraq for so long wasting precious lives and capital. He needs to go somewhere and sit down. As for anyone from the White House trying to destroy him, they are too busy for this and it is not how PBO rolls. Hagel simplywas not up to the task of Sec. of Def.

    • 88 jacquelineoboomer
      December 18, 2025 at 7:06 pm

No idea what happened between the President and Hagel, but - having been a long-time admirer of Hagel, myself, liking what I thought was their friendship - I’m deeply disappointed that it didn’t work out, that he’s talking about Pres. Obama after leaving Defense, and that he seems to think HE’s the Commander In Chief.

That is not necessarily as a result of the breach. The VAN is a database of ALL registered voters in the US; so your basic info i.e. name address, DOB, last time you voted is available to all who use it. Sounds like his campaign breach proprietary info that had been imput by the Clinton campaign.
