The media is so happy to put down President Obama by hyping the two anti-Obama winners in a tiny white state that they ignore how unrepresentative the electorate is. Neither Bernie or Trump has faced anything like the vetting given Senator Obama and Hillary in 2008. Racism and misogyny are ugly strains in the US. Bernie supporters actually booed Hillary when she was talking about going to Flint. Trump and Bernie supporters at their rallies and online are two sides of the same coin. I miss the mantra of “Respect, Empower, Include.” It is clear that the President is realistic that only Hillary will build on his achievements (when he cautioned against voting for the candidate who just shouted slogans).

Bernie was expected to win in NH; media/pundits have been saying it for weeks. But NH is very early in the process and is not representative of the rest of the United States. While there may be lessons learned from both IA and NH, I don’t think the panic the media is trying to stir up is not yet warranted.

I hope HRC, her campaign leadership, and her supporters follows PBO’s example and take/stay on the high road. That will come into play at the end of the nomination process.

but, this is who they are. they have always been this messy. they are always running to the press to try and convince the MSM how important they are to Camp Clinton.

and, if she wins…these same muthaphuckas will be leaking to the press like a sieve.

BECAUSE THIS IS WHO SHE HAS AROUND HER.

        It was never ‘JUST HILLARY’.

A lot of the trepidation about her is WHO IS AROUND HER.

        they are not trustworthy.

Didn’t Hillary come out of NH with almost as many delegates as Bernie? Plus she is way ahead overall with pledged delegates. Not the monster win the pundits are saying it is. Hillary supporters should learn from the two Obama campaigns to play the long game.

Bernie Sanders will win at least 13 of the Democratic delegates in New Hampshire and Hillary Clinton will win at least nine. Two delegates haven’t yet been allocated.

In the overall race for delegates, Clinton has 394, thanks in large part to endorsements from superdelegates — party officials who can support the candidate of their choice.

      Sanders has 42 delegates.

It takes 2,382 delegates to win the Democratic nomination for president.

Yes, but we also need an electorate eager to go and vote for the nominee. That’s what really worries me. Sanders’s followers don’t seem interested to support a Democrat. Will they go out and vote for HRC?

I agree with you and JackieG! Quite a few of Bernie’s supporters are Naderites! They are fair weather Democrats! What we theloyal Democrats need to do is work hard to register new voters. After that, we should work just as hard to get out the votes in November. I am not a big Hillary Clinton fan, but since my #1 and #2 candidates, VP Joe Biden and Gov. Matin O’Malley respectively, are not in the race, I am ready to embrace Hillary Clinton.

According to this Charles Gaba retweet, BS gets 13; HRC gets 15. Bernie supporters were complaining about the process to allocate delegates and was reminded that it was the same process in place in 2008 and that then Senator Obama worked the system to eventually win.

Wilson Michael, that mold has been broken and cannot be duplicated.

HRC is savvy enough to see the long road towards the end game…not just bask in the short-term victories. She is smart enough to use the lessons learned, and I think she is open-minded enough not to discount any of the lessons. She’s learned lessons from being President Obama’s opponent, and from being a part of his administration. Let’s just hope that she is smart enough not to duplicate past mistakes.

You may be right in everything you said about HRC. But I am a bit concerned about her campaign. I think her team, including DWS, thought that this was going be an easy coronation for HRC. Lets hope her people have learned a good lesson from Iowa and New Hampshire. They (the Clinton people) must prepare for a long and protracted campaign. They also must avoid a taking African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans for granted. HRC must continue highlighting her policies that will address their concerns.

Her team better try to solicit advice from PBO’s group. Team Hillary isn’t very competent, but unfortunately, the Dems are in a lesser of two evils situation somewhat like the GOP. At least our better option is light-years ahead of their…”best”.

There’s the respect, empower, include path that the President has been demonstrating. Alternatively for Dems (if they stay Dems) is an exclusive path reserved for party insiders (which is the world before the President and the one in which the Clintons learned to negotiate) or the power over revolutionary path of the leftist fundamentalists. If this election creates more convincement that the President is on to something and its not going back, I won’t complain about the ruckous.

About Writing While Loving Blackness and Hurting White Feelings
    Awesomely Luvvie — February 10, 2025

Are you mad about this title? Keep reading. You’re probably the main one that needs to read this.

It has been an interesting 5 days, since Beyonce dropped her Formation video and broke the internet. People (me included) have not been able to stop talking about it, and it has spurred a gajillion thinkpieces. Most folks love it and have been vocal about it but the critiques have poured in too. Then she performed at the Superbowl, had her dancers dressed as Black Panthers and everyone lost their collective minds.

Beyonce’s unapologetic Blackness has heartened those of us who see ourselves in her, and it has offended some people who don’t think she represents them. There have been oceans of white tears for folks to swim in since it happened.

On the night of the Superbowl, I received an email from a woman who reads my blog. What she thought was her passing on some advice to me was really her being Den Mother of Hurt White Feelings.

Gotta run, hope to be back in time for PBO’s Springfield address — so much is going on this year, hard to find time to savor every moment of PBO’s final year. :(

As a reminder, this speech will have flourishes from our fav @jonfavs:
“‘The central message beginning in 2004 and throughout the 2008 campaign was: We are not as divided as our politics in Washington would suggest,’ former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau, who helped write the Springfield announcement, said in an interview. ‘And Obama wanted to use his time in Springfield as an example of how people of different views and parties could come together and make progress.'”

Watched the speech. Thanks TOD for making it easy to do that. This reminds me of the many poignant speeches timed perfectly to the situation as things evolved. Our President knows when to interject and todays speech was as much a support of Hillary Clinton’s campaign and evolved positions as is possible in a primary season. If this President campaigns for Hillary Clinton it will be something for the ages. He was an amazing ability to speak to your condition and he did that today. I love my President.

This was such a memorable day for me. This was during the time that I used to watch MSNBC religiously. I can remember coming home and turning on the TV and all these young, invigorated, smart, techie people were on the show talking about all this innovative (at the time) stuff that they were going to do with this campaign. My excitement was off the chart. I had waited 4 years for this moment to come and it was finally here.

They directed us to his website (which was the envy of all of politics) and that was my first venture into online activity. I lurked on that site for almost 6 months before I posted a single comment. Everyone seemed so in-tuned to what they were doing and I was such a novice to this new phenomenon. Over the years (before they destroyed it with trolls and incompetence) I met on the Obama Blog site many committed supporters like J’OB, Meta, PrettyFoot, Jackie4Obama, Sue, Sam from the UK, MightyPamela, Theo67 and many others (forgive me if I left some out) that are now a part of this site daily.

We fought with everything we had to beat the mighty Clinton machine. There were moments of triumph and moments of anxiety but we never gave up the fight. We knew that history and karma was on our side and in the end we won and there was no greater jubilance than the night that he was declared President Elect of the United States.

This is why in this year’s election it isn’t so much to me about Clinton and her character, trustworthiness or what she did or didn’t do in 2008 it’s about the struggle that this President has had to endure to get ANYTHING done. And yet, he has persevered with many successes along the way. I marvel at his patience and fortitude and I want my grand babies to pick up their history books 10 years from now and read about how we elected the first African American President and the legacy of Obama Care and Dodd Frank and I will not stand by and let anyone take that away from him. Those things will not be a footnote they will be a full chapter in our US History.

      February 11, 2025 at 4:54 am

The “holier than thou purity progressives” supporting Bernie are hypocrites! Bernie is now 74, my age group. Why did he wait so long to run for president to launch his revolution? If he was so opposed to the 1994 crime bill, and to NAFTA, and global trade, why didn’t he run against the policies of Bill Clinton and Al Gore? But even more importantly, why didn’t he run against the policies of Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr., and George W. Bush? Why is he going around trashing President Obama? Does he really think that President Obama is worse than Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr., Bill Clinton and George W. Bush?

I pray that in this crucial election, Democrats pay heed to George Santayana’s warning about forgetting history. You see: in 1968 the “purity progressives” abandoned Hubert Humphrey and we ended up with Richard Nixon; in 1972, the conservative “DLC type” abandoned George McGovern and we ended up with Nixon again; In 1980 the “purity progressives”abandoned Jimmy Carter and we ended up with Ronald Reagan; and, once again, in 2000, the “purity progressives” abandoned Al Gore and we ended up with George W. Bush. Now Richard Nixon (despite revisionist history), Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush took our country backward, but they were angels compared to the current leading Republicans like Trump, Cruz and Rubio.

If Bernie Sanders was not out there trashing President Obama and openly running against his policies, I would have no problems supporting him. It seems to me that he has chosen to run against the President and has surrounded himself with the so called progressives who have been trashing a sitting Democratic President for the past seven years. Despite my utter disgust for Bernie and his supporters, if he is the nominee of the Democratic Party I will cover my nose and vote him. I hear, however, that many of Bernie’s supporters would rather not vote if Hillary Clinton is the nominee; and some are saying that they will vote for Trump over HRC. If that is the case, then I have absolutely no interest in supporting Bernie Sanders. I don’t know about anybody else, but I refuse to support any one out to undermine and destroy the Democratic Party.

One goes back as a transformative statesman for the ages, the other a two-bit petulant bully whose temper tantrum led him to inconvenience the citizens of his state by closing down a bridge, and is now most assuredly waiting on a looming federal indictment.

Nope! If they were honest they would tell us the TRUTH! They just couldn’t stand the Black guy in the White House who refused to be at their beck and call on every issue. Historically, this is nothing new when it comes to many white progressives who think that they are superior to Black people. Black Abolitionists experienced similar treatment once they decided to speak for themselves instead of always relying on white abolitionists to speak for them. Although the great white abolitionist had been a mentor, and supposedly a friend, of the great Black abolitionist, Frederick Douglass, Garrison was so angry when Frederick Douglass launched his own paper, the “North Star” in direct competition with the “Liberator.” But What Garrison was most angry about was the fact that Douglass had abandoned the Garrisonian creed of “moral suasion,” which advocated non-involvement and non-participation in politics. By the time he launched his “North Star,” Douglass had concluded that “moral suasion” alone would not be enough to bring about the abolition of slavery. He joined abolitionists, black and white, who called for involvement in politics and using the U.S. Constitution to attack slavery. Consequently, Garrison regarded Douglass as a traitor. Because Frederick Douglass grew and decided to rely on his own judgement, Garrison, like Bill Press and the Bernie supporters, expressed “Buyer’s Remorse.” Once Douglass embraced political abolitionism, William Lloyd Garrison was so angry that urged his fellow abolitionists not to read Douglass’ paper, the “North Star.”

I stopped watching MSNBC years ago. Can’t stand her know-it-all bashing of President Obama.

And she isn’t alone. One who we used to admire for her honesty…Randi Rhodes….is also a supporter. I do recall her being dismayed a number of times with PBO, who she mainly favored, but I began detecting her radicalism after a while. Bye Randi, nice having known ya. Rachel, stay on good documentaries….with facts. Otherwise, you live as well in LaLa land !

I thought she had said the same thing about Ralph Nader and Dennis Kucinich! For the life of me, I don’t see any difference between Ralph Nader, Dennis Kucinich, and Bernie Sanders. I do, however, give Dennis Kucinich high marks for remaining a Democrat even though he vigorously disagreed with most of his fellow Democrats. The same couldn’t be said of Bernie Sanders and Ralph Nader.

Institutional discrimination in the work place, schools, colleges, housing where it was easier to be on welfare than get a job was institutionally designed to keep AA’s out of the workforce until it became a campaign tool just like crime, drugs in minority areas. This guy is a uncle tom and i hope he enjoys his 30 pieces of silver.

While I’ll vote for Sanders if he is the nominee, I can’t stand his surrogate. This woman has turned into an obnoxious supporter.
