Getting more complicated by the day, 57. My brother’s daughters want him - and have taken him home for the weekend. But their parents are less keen (they already have a little dog) and say they’ll return him on Monday. I feel for the little fella because he needs stability now, and all this isn’t helping. I would love if my brother kept him because the girls are sweethearts and he really took to them today, they’d shower him with love. But I’m not hopeful.
Maybe your nieces will be very persuasive. Never underestimate girl power in pursuit of a goal. If they fall in love with him this weekend, you never what will happen.
They were absolutely hilarious, Jackie. My brother was refusing at first to allow the dog stay the weekend because he said he knew what would happen, he’d never leave. They promised they wouldn’t pressure their Dad (and Mom) to keep him, so my brother got them to sign his scribbled ‘legally binding contract’ agreeing that he would return on Monday …. they did, but deliberately spelled their names wrong
This really dismays me. They know when they are not wanted. He so needs a family that will commit to him unconditionally. I’ve rescued so many adult dogs without a clue what their life was like before. Even knowing Pearl’s history - it just meant I knew the hell she had been through for 7 years.
He is a beautiful dog and will blossom when he feels that he has found his forever home. I wish I could come get him right now!
But it’s so hard finding permanent loving homes for unwanted dogs, the world is jammed with them, breaks my heart. If I thought it could work out with Danny I would keep him, but it wasn’t, Danny stressed out, Newbie snarling and nipping at him all the time, trying to become the boss, not sure if that would ever change. The consolation is that whoever he’s met the last couple of weeks, he’s warmed to them instantly when they showed kindness, and there are none kinder than my two nieces. We’ll see how it works out with them, but I do expect him back on Monday. We’ll take it from there.
A friend of mine found who would become our Harvey, in the parking lot where she worked. She knew she couldn’t keep him, and called me. I got there within 15 minutes. I put him in the car, and he was already looking back for Rhoda, who had shown him kindness for no more than a half an hour. I will remember this day as long as I live: He looked for her frantically out of the car window, then he turned to me, trying to look at me through a mat on his ear that was - I kid you not - about 8 inches long, and I swear, Chips, he said to me, “Are you nice?”
He full of weird red bugs. It looked like he’d never had a bath. For the first three months we had him, he only expected to be fed if he sat on his hind legs - someone had trained him but abandoned him.
There is someone out there for him. I wish I could get on a plane and rescue him right now!
Yes he does. Can you imagine how President Obama will feel if this country falls into Republican hands? He has worked so hard and his legacy must be continued and strengthened, not torn down by bigoted Republicans.
Why does he? It’s not like the Republicans changed over night and no one demanded a democratic president “run like he is campaigning again” to save our ungrateful asses. And what happens after the next four years??? You demand he “run again like he is campaigning?
Whoever is running for POTUS needs to do their own campaigning and pay their own way. Obama, doesn’t have to do sh*t. Entitled BS.
I am with you on basing my whole reason for my support in the election to continue Obama’s achievements. It does make a difference. Having four more years for the public to get to know personally the ACA should make it less likely for the GOP to discard it.
amk you are right. He has done enough for this ungrateful nation. and it wasn’t like…oh I wish POTUS would campaign…it is Obama will have to campaign like he is running… fuggem’
Republicans are pulling for Senator Sanders to win because they believe he’s easier to beat than Secretary Clinton. Not sure if they’re right about that.
If he thinks he can work across the aisle, that means he’s willing to compromise. Oh, wait. There is no compromise…it’s all or nothing; right? Unless working across the aisle means he wants what they want.
Loved FLOTUS at this event (see Chips’ tweet upthread).
She is so genuinely loved, all over the world.
Ben Rhodes made this point at this morning’s daily WHPB, when a reporter asked about the First Family accompanying PBO to Cuba and Argentina next month, (the itinerary is under development now), but what wonderful news that FLOTUS will be able to share #LetGirlsLearn to those girls in Cuba who have little interaction with the world outside of their island lives.
@AndrewBeatty Will be especially rewarding for neglected Cubans to embrace @FLOTUS #LetGirlsLearn initiative.
And here’s push-back to MSM chiding President Obama for not attending Justice Scalia’s funeral on Saturday (I didn’t read the article, so if its wildly offensive, I apologize in advance — bbl).
"People close to the Scalia family said Obama was making the right choice." https://t.co/Yay0b0uIW9
And if he attended Scalia’s funeral, you would have idiots criticizing him for doing so given that Scalia and him were not politically aligned. ***rolls eyes***
I love it that the hardline repblicans are losing it over PBO’s constant stream of success despite every effort to obstruct his efforts. The latest stick fate has given PBO to hit them with is the ability to make one more nomination to the supreme court to reverse the SC’s “republican friendly” orientation. I have been following PBO through TOD since 2008 (Well firstly BWD, then via that to TOD).
Inspite of the rabid & deliberate obstruction of PBO’s administration by all of his opponents, to me, it’s almost as if God has rewarded PBO with this grand gift to undo years of the republicans carefully crafted grab and hold on power.
That’s why Republicans now all have Obama Derangement Syndrome. They cannot believe that despite everything they threw at him, he has been able to accomplish so much and move this country into a positive direction. They’re in a state of shock!
arapaho & meta - thank you so much. Not sure how anyone keeps track of this. For some reason I thought SC was about over & there were multiple voting days - sigh.
All we have to do is go vote - once - every state on the same day for the feds. Seems very boring in comparison!
Left a lengthy response to ObamaGrandmama on overnight thread about a 30-minute video discussion between David Plouffe and Jeff Weaver re: Saturday’s NV caucus (hosted by John Ralston) — will RT Ralston’s tweet to you for video link. http://theobamadiary.com/2016/02/18/the-presidents-day-86/#comment-1488469
in the United States, Super Tuesday, in general, refers to the Tuesday in February or March of a presidential election year when the greatest number of states hold primary elections to select delegates to national conventions at which each party’s presidential candidates are officially nominated. The phrase “Super Tuesday”[1] has been used to refer to presidential primary elections since at least 1976.[2] More delegates can be won on Super Tuesday than on any other single day of the primary calendar; accordingly, candidates seeking the presidency traditionally must do well on this day to secure their party’s nomination. In 2008, Super Tuesday was February 5; 24 states held primaries or caucuses on this date, with 52% of all pledged Democratic Party delegates and 49% of the total Republican Party delegates at stake.[3] The 2016 Super Tuesday will be held on March 1.
2016[edit]
Super Tuesday in the 2016 election cycle is scheduled to be held on March 1, 2016. This date has been dubbed the “SEC Primary”, since many of the participating states are represented in the U.S. collegiate Southeastern Conference.[4][5]
The participating states include: Alabama, Alaska Republican caucuses, Arkansas, Colorado caucuses, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota caucuses, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, and Wyoming Republican caucuses.[5]
Thanks pf - why there are primaries vs caucuses is also confusing to an outsider - but I’m beginning to think caucuses are more like how we choose our candidates - with the difference that few people actually join a political party in Oz & it is the members of the party who choose the candidates.
not just to an outsider…me too….i have never paid as much attention to the workings of my government…sorry to say…as i have since Barack Obama has been President…and i considered myself rather savvy…
He has been responsible for much more political understanding (on both sides of the aisle) which long term is a good thing. Sadly the media have adjusted the message for the GOP. I never even realised there was a GOP primary in 2008 - thought the whole thing was BHO vs HRC :)
February 18, 2025 - President Obama delivers remarks in the Roosevelt Room following his meeting with African American leaders to discuss a range of issues, including criminal justice reform, equality, and economic opportunity.
Yes! Yes! Yes! So true, all the right wing Fox loving so call christians did was question if they thought President Obama was a christian? But President Obama carried on with class and dignity, unlike that Donald J. Trump, he doesn’t know what class or dignity means.
I am soooooooo sick of that ‘push POTUS’ BS about any dimension of nurturing and protecting human rights for ANY person (even the people who hate him) …
That anyone @deray still thinks that they need to 'push' @POTUS regarding human rights for ANY person indicates naivete, at best.
Thank you Mayor Read for speaking so much sense. Thanks Bob for sharing this. I’ve been asking this question: Why did Bernie all of a sudden become a Democrat when he has been an Independent for all the 25 years he has been in Congress?
I thought at first it was a good thing because it wouldn’t be a third party candidacy that would siphon off Dem votes. Now it doesn’t seem like such a good idea. I wonder if he would even have run f the Dems had turned him down.
Ted Cruz - born in Canada - child of an immigrant - wants to deport all immigrants - the mind cannot comprehend the utter hate he must have for himself.
So, the question must be asked: why have we not heard any of this from Sen. Sanders on the campaign trail? For any self-described “democratic socialist”, Barack Obama’s successes in combating income inequality through actual policy should be a proud badge to wear. Why isn’t Sanders wearing it and running on it?
Consider the following. Admitting what President Obama has done has worked - not just in a lip-service sense but in a real, specific policy sense - would undermine the two key justifications for the Sanders campaign: the anti-establishment shell, and the revolution-peddling. If he admits that President Obama’s specific policies have addressed his core campaign issue, there is no case to be made as to why a drastic course correction (revolution) is needed, nor is there a reason to run against “the establishment” if the current system, with the right leadership, works.
Hi everybody!!! I am a major lurker, who comes here at least three times a week for your calming influence.
So Mitch McConnell had a wish “Barack will be a one term president!”. When that did not work, he wished for a “repeal and replace” of Obamacare, (countless times). Still on the loser side, he stamped his feet, and declared that no more judges will be confirmed for lower courts.
Goodwin Liu ( Supreme in waiting) had to withdraw. McConnell felt that everything was going according to Koch’s plan. After all, regardless of how many votes Barack received in his re- election, he was being contained. He can’t close Gitmo, he can’t lift the embargo in Cuba, he can’t get money for shovel ready projects, he will not get paycheck fairness, and Climate change policy? No hope in hell.
Then Scalia died.
For a nano- second, McConnell panicked. Barack now has the power to effect a seismic shift. After furtive calls to his “Dear Leaders”
(Kochs), and a quick check of the constitution, he suddenly realized that the solution was staring him in the face the whole time. Indeed
all he had to do is declare “Barack will be a three- fourth president”. After all, didn’t the constitution call him a “three fifth of a person”?
This is an improvement. McConnell was so excited, he forgot to express his condolences to the Scalia family. But he was sure they will understand.
Losers never learn.
Hello Chips, Hello TOD!!

Any news on the doggie front?
Getting more complicated by the day, 57. My brother’s daughters want him - and have taken him home for the weekend. How so very cute - and clever too :D
Did you teach them that trick…
Well………… :-)
Ah Ha! :D :D
I hope they can convince their parents to let them keep “The Wanderer”
The first text from my brother when they got home wasn’t encouraging: “He’s a urination machine!” :???:
Oh poor baby - he’s so stressed (the dog). He needs the Dog Whisperer
This really dismays me. They know when they are not wanted. He so needs a family that will commit to him unconditionally. I’ve rescued so many adult dogs without a clue what their life was like before. Even knowing Pearl’s history - it just meant I knew the hell she had been through for 7 years.

But it’s so hard finding permanent loving homes for unwanted dogs, the world is jammed with them, breaks my heart. Hello and Congrats Allison.
Good Afternoon, TODVille.
Thanks Chips, just trying to catch up. BBL.
No, he doesn’t. He had done enough shite for the racist nation.
Yes he does. Can you imagine how President Obama will feel if this country falls into Republican hands? He has worked so hard and his legacy must be continued and strengthened, not torn down by bigoted Republicans.

I love the way POTUS and FLOTUS make each other laugh.
furst the kenyan. now the argentinian. love the trolling of the racist pos.
Mr. Sanders’s popularity extends across the aisle!
Republicans are pulling for Senator Sanders to win because they believe he’s easier to beat than Secretary Clinton. Not sure if they’re right about that.
I expect BS to now say he can work across the aisle. Doing what, exactly? RWNJ’s bidding?
If he thinks he can work across the aisle, that means he’s willing to compromise. Oh, wait. There is no compromise…it’s all or nothing; right? Unless working across the aisle means he wants what they want.

PBO DOES NOT NEED TO BE THERE…I’M GLAD HE’S NOT GOING!
I am glad POTUS is not going to Scalia’s funeral.
also!!!!!!
He will be paying his respects when Scalia lies in the capital.
Hi, everybody. Hope everyone has been having a good week! :) I know I have a lot of catching up to do so I’m going to get right on it.
I love it that the hardline repblicans are losing it over PBO’s constant stream of success despite every effort to obstruct his efforts. I agree, WM. He is blessed and highly favored and it drives them crazy because they think they have cornered the market on God.
Co-signing on everything.
Hi TOD
Could someone please tell me
When are the SC primary & the Nevada caucus
When is “Super Tuesday” & what does it signify?
I’m obviously not up to scratch on these type of events
GM 99ts.
As with most everything in these “united” states, there’s 50 ways of doing things…
Here’s what I know so far, will find the Wikipedia links where I got the info…
NV caucuses and SC primaries are on different dates, depending on GOP or Dem.
Dem:
NV caucus… this Saturday, Feb 20
SC primary… next Saturday, Feb 27
GOP:
NV caucus… next Tuesday, Feb 23
SC primary… this Saturday, Feb 20
Super Tuesday is Mar 1:
Alabama
American Samoa
Arkansas
Colorado
Dems Abroad
Georgia
Massachusetts
Minnesota
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Texas
Vermont
Virginia
Saturday, Mar 5
GOP caucuses
Kansas
Kentucky
Maine
Dem caucus
Nebraska
Primary
Louisiana
Tuesday, Mar 8:
GOP caucus
Idaho
Primaries
Michigan
Mississippi
Saturday, Mar 12
Marianas Islands
Tuesday, Mar 15
Florida
Illinois
Missouri
North Carolina
Ohio
And so on… my notes are scattered about, so may be errors in this list, but you get the gist.
The big days are Super Tuesday Mar 1, and five big states votes on Mar 15.
Super Tuesday is when the greatest number of states hold their primary elections. This year, it’s March 1.
Here’s a schedule of Dem primaries and caucuses:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_presidential_primaries,_2016#Schedule_and_results_of_primaries_and_caucuses
arapaho & meta - thank you so much. Not sure how anyone keeps track of this. For some reason I thought SC was about over & there were multiple voting days - sigh.
All we have to do is go vote - once - every state on the same day for the feds. Seems very boring in comparison!
There’s a certain drama built into our system. And a certain level of BS, for sure.
GM Meta.

Dirty tricks?
I guess this is the voter fraud the *GOP* has been so concerned about.
that’s not a smile, that’s a all out laugh.

I am equally offended when some demand (not ask), that POTUS campaigns like he is running again because “we” don’t want to be screwed. smdh!!
Mercyyyyyyyyy….
WILL THIS EVER END………………..:(
those are my thoughts too…Sue
They’ve got this Cuba thing firing on all cylinders :)
I think SOS Kerry is fluent in Spanish, so this must be fun for him.

The VP is great! I’m so enjoying the interview.
i forgot about it…missed most of it…will catch it later….
Me too. Hope to catch it here. 😊😊
It was a relaxed, informative interview making me sorry I do not get to vote for Biden for President.
What it Really Takes to Fight Income Inequality: Lessons from President Obama
http://www.thepeoplesview.net/main/2016/2/17/lessons-from-barack-obama-how-to-actually-combat-income-inequality
So, the question must be asked: why have we not heard any of this from Sen. Sanders on the campaign trail?
