    Congratulations COS!
I am so astounded by my President. It makes me feel all giddy inside.
He keeps on coming with ways to make these hateful GOP other fools heads explode.
I am looking forward to the Obamas historical trip to Cuba.
Thank yo TOD, Ms. Chips for everything!

I’m amazed by the blossoms, wondering why my little cherry tree only has buds right now- what the heck are they feeding theirs?? :(

            GE sherijr.

Loved this video, right up my (gardening) alley — one of the reasons I haven’t been here much is that I’m busy Spring planting and other fun stuff until it’s very late on the east coast.

The NPS person said there’s 12 different varieties of blossoms on the Mall, so yours is a late bloomer — which may be a good thing, given your weather forecast. :(

Glad PBO and COS were able to enjoy this evening, since the blossoms may be short-lived this year. :(

Arapaho, you have no idea how depressing it is to think about more snow coming. Just when all the snow from the February blizzard finally melted.

Does anybody know if there will be snow in the Midwest this weekend? I’m afraid to look. Asking for a friend of a friend.

Mine is a dwarf cherry tree.. and it was here when I moved in, but I just love it. I too will be planting this week, just starting my seeds tomorrow- am a bit late.. Happy gardening to you :) I’m new to it, but really enjoyed it last year. Had a ton of tomatoes, so am adding other veggies this year. What the heck, have to try it.

Loved the pictures of the Chevys in the United Airlines ad. I had one like the red and white. Mine was pink and white. That picture triggered good memories. That was our honeymoon car! I bought it used in ’63.

      GE Meta.

Despite GOP’s desires to remain stuck in pre-Beatles America, PBO is dragging this country into the 21st century.

Commerce between US and Cuba has launched with the First Family’s trip to Cuba during Easter week and is poised to skyrocket. Americans in colder climes will no doubt be thinking of winter vacations in Cuba for Winter 2016-17.

        Good evening, arapaho!

These economies are going to explode. No doubt about that, thanks to the brilliance of PBO. So so so grateful, every single day.

        *stuck in pre-Beatles America*

Hysterical! Well, not when you connect the GOP with it, but made me smile, anyway!

Monty Python references, a colonoscopy analogy and a pyjama-clad senator featured during an all-night sitting of Australia’s upper house.

The Senate is considering controversial changes to voting laws that will disadvantage so-called “micro parties”.

The ruling Coalition, the Greens and independent senator Nick Xenophon support the changes.

But the opposition Labor party and micro party senators oppose them.

The debate, which is continuing this morning, is at this stage the ninth-longest in the history of the Senate.

Australia’s complex system of voter preference distribution presently allows micro parties to secure Senate seats, even if they receive a very small percentage of the primary vote.

At the last election a clutch of micro party and independent senators, including Ricky Muir of the Motoring Enthusiasts Party and former rugby league footballer Glenn Lazarus, won seats in the senate.

These senators have frustrated the government by blocking legislation. Their presence in the Senate also affects the Greens, depriving them of the balance-of-power position they have often held in the upper house.

Didn’t you mean “independent senator Nick XenoPHOBE support the changes”?

Too late - its all passed. Small parties are out. Greens only supported it because they think it will give them more seats - they like having the balance of power in the senate. What was really stupid was that some years ago the number of senators from each state was changed to 12 from 10. We elect 1/2 the senators each 3 years - so there used to be 5 up for re-election & there was usually only 1 seat available for minority parties (major parties always got 2). The party in the lower house, usually held the senate. Now we have 6 seats at each election for each state - minorities can get 2 and usually hold the balance of power.

The party preference came into being because we have to vote for every person standing (numbered 1 to whatever) and counting the votes manually is very time consuming - so they brought in party preferences to make it easier. Every change seems to make things worse. Wonder what this change will do
