As for Ted Cruz, Eli Lake reports today for Bloomberg View that the Texas senator is unveiling his own national security advisory team, which includes names like Elliott Abrams – who lied to Congress about the Iran-Contra scandal, and who was also on Rubio’s advisory team – and former assistant U.S. attorney Andrew McCarthy, known for his far-right contributions to National Review.
But the name that stood most was Frank Gaffney, one of the nation’s most notorious anti-Muslim activists.
When Trump proposed a temporary ban on all Muslim immigration, he quoted from a 2015 survey of American Muslims commissioned by the think tank Gaffney founded, the Center for Security Policy. It concluded that a quarter of U.S. Muslims supported violent jihad against the U.S. This led to speculation in the Washington press that Gaffney was advising Trump.
But Gaffney is a Cruz man…. As Cruz makes the case that he is the last, best chance to prevent Trump from winning his party’s nomination, his foreign-policy advisers include not only Gaffney, but also three others who work for Gaffney’s think tank.
Keep in mind, as recently as 2011, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) deemed Gaffney a crackpot and banned him from the annual event after he accused the American Conservative Union’s board members of being part of a conspiracy to spread radical Islam.
Chips - continuing from my request at the bottom of the previous thread - at ~ 5min into the video Senator Reid explicitly documents @GOP’s ‘obstruction & scorched earth policies’ toward President Obama, policies that they strategized deploying on Inauguration Night 2009 ….
Also, thank you @SenatorReid for reminding everyone that on #Inauguration night 20Jan09, @GOP met & planned total obstruction of @POTUS.

This really is a MUST SEE video and a video that everyone needs to see!
Exactly. Vigilantes are still vigilantes no matter what side they seem to be on. It is appalling to me that so many citizens say they don’t trust their government - their elected government - but do trust these people whose names and hidden agendas they do not know.
I want them to do whatever is necessary to take him down. His social security number will give other hackers access to all sorts of information like his school records which may tell us if he received a mental health diagnosis after he was kicked out of an elite private school for extreme aggression and bullying. They can get access to his overseas accounts, etc. This is a worldwide effort and I applaud everything they are doing and plan to do to take him down. If he goes down then we can empty the Congress of many more Republicans. So yeah I’m here for it.
I remember in elementary school our teacher had us to write a letter to a classmate of our choosing, of course me being me I picked this girl in our class to write a letter to. And of course anything that I’m a part of does not end well, and this was no exception.
Donna, when you are referring to Alan Grayson as your reference point, you have sunk far into the mud. I can’t wait until Hillary gets the full compliment of delegates and all the exits are blocked for Bernie. There are still people who believe he’s going to deliver a miracle and beat Hillary. He’ll win some caucuses and primaries in the next week or so, but she’ll deliver the big states.
His campaign is explicitly telling them that Hillary is failing and that Sanders is on course to win. Of course this will only stoke their outrage when he eventually doesn’t win and the super-delegates inexplicably refuse to abandon the candidate with the most delegates and popular votes. THEN the conspiracy theories will fly. Sanders is either encouraging this or is ignorant of it in which case he is either dangerously destructive or dangerously incompetent.
SENATE DEMOCRATS ON SUPREME COURT NOMINEE (3/17/16)
——————————————
Senate Democrats on Supreme Court Nominee Senate Democrats held a news conference at the Supreme Court to urge their Republican colleagues to consider the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to succeed Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
The AA community has been a staunch alley and loyal friend to the Clintons forever. We were there when Bill was going through his impeachment hearing and every other situation he found himself in.
Don and Meta, don’t be sad, remember what PBO told the little girl in the video that was crying that he would be leaving:
“…tell her to dry her tears, because I’m not going anywhere. Once I leave the White House, I’ll still be a citizen just like her. And when she grows up, she can get involved right alongside me. In the meantime, I’ll keep an eye out for her letter, and we’ll always get to celebrate our birthdays together!”
In the meantime, he will be awesome as our President for another 10 glorious months! And you can best be sure he will make the most of them!
President Obama had to do it. Trump is a danger and a liability to everything and in America’s future.
Trump would take a hammer and an eraser to our past.
“Mr. Obama acknowledged that Mrs. Clinton is perceived to have weaknesses as a candidate, and that some Democrats did not view her as authentic.
But he played down the importance of authenticity, noting that President George W. Bush — whose record he ran aggressively against in 2008 — was once praised for his authenticity.”
Can’t tell you how frustrating it was to hear a couple of family members praise BS as “genuine”, as if that is sufficient qualification to be US Pres!
PBO nailed it. He will be awesome to watch on the campaign trail.
Meta, thanks for re-tweeting Sen. Reid’s important statement about the “THE BIG LIE” manufactured by Republicans. Because I was so depressed about the current state of American politics, I decided to re-read Dr. King’s marvelous book, ‘Strength To Love,” published in 1963. In chapter one titled “A Tough Mind and A Tender Heart,” Dr. King warned about the dangers of what he called “soft mindedness,” which dictators use to lead men to commit “acts of barbarity and terror that are unthinkable in civilized society.” According to Dr. King, Adolph Hitler, who took advantage of the “soft mindedness” of his millions of followers, said this: “I use emotion for the many and reserve reason for the few.” More importantly, Dr. King quoted this statement from Hitler’s “Mein Kampf,” which I think is so true of both the Republican Party in general, and Donald Trump in particular:
“By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell—and hell
is heaven….The greater the lie, the more readily will it be believed.”
For more than seven years now, Republicans have been doing exactly what Adolph Hitler said: repeating “THE BIG LIE” over and over again about President Obama.
Thank you for this important framing and context. We are watching this unfold before our very eyes and feel so dumbfounded……but that is precisely the tactic.
You are welcome, Meta! Thank you so much for all your wonderful tweets I read at TOD! You are performing a heroic job of spreading TRUTH, which, hopefully, will check the lies being spread by Republicans.
You are right, Prettyfoot! Democrats, by their silence, were complicit in allowing the madness, which created a Donald Trump, to fester and grow, Even more complicit were the “holier than thou, purity progressives” who joined the teabaggers in denigrating President Obama.
Flint people probably didn’t either and if they voted for him the first time it was probably because the Democratic candidate was soooo weak and Snyder had pulled his sheep’s clothing over his wolfy fur.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, TOD Community.
Wishing You All, a Loads of Pots of Irish Luck ;)

I have not been able to access my Twitter Account in 2 days. I hope that Cartoon goes Viral in the Twitter World.
NCLB, thanks for sharing this spot-on twieet. By the way, didn’t Lindsey say, a few days ago, that choosing between Cruz and Trump was like choosing if you want to be killed by poison (Cruz) or by a firing squad (Trump)?
From House Speaker Paul Ryan, talking about his view of tax reform:
I do not like the idea of buying into these distributional tables.
“These distributional tables” are the ones that show Republican tax plans giving enormous cuts to the wealthy and nothing much at all to the middle class. Ryan calls them ridiculous, because once you account for the economic boom of Republican tax cuts for the rich, everyone is going to be rolling in dough. Besides which, Ryan insists, “I think most people don’t think, ‘John’s success comes at my expense.'” Bottom line: distributional tables are for losers. “Bernie Sanders talks about that stuff. That’s not who we are.”
On a more amusing note, Ryan says he’s not looking at how to fund a border wall. “Remember, we’re not going to pay for that, recall?” So true.
I’d like to know WHO in the middle class was “rolling in dough/money” during the entire time the Bush tax cuts were going to the top 1%? Many people couldn’t afford health insurance and filing medical bankrupcys, losing their homes, losing jobs that were going overseas, and the GOP was trying to make them permanate while cutting and extending unemployment insurance.
What’s up with David Axerod! He totally underestimated the numbers of people who voted for President Obama. In 2102 he received over 65 million votes and in 2008 he received more than 69 million votes. He defeated Romney, in 2012, by more than 5 million votes, and he defeated McCain, in 2008, by more than 10 million votes. Moreover, he wan by electoral landslides in both elections. Less than 38 million people voted the Republicans in the Senate who are now in controll of the Senate and who are blocking the President’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court. Let me repeat this again: President Obama received almost twice as many votes as those received by all the Republican Senators combined who are now the majority in the Senate. Moreover, Senate Democrats now in a minority, received a million more votes than the Republican who in the majority. That’s because the Senate is so undemocratic! A tiny state like Wyoming, with a total population that is slightly over 1/2 a million the same number of Senators — TWO — as California whose population is over 37 millions.
However not only is Sanders not getting a return on his investment, but he’s also currently under FEC investigation to which the campaign must respond by March 17th. As much as Sanders likes to tout his campaign contributions, now 5 million and counting, it appears that a significant number of these contributions may have in fact been illegal. From October of 2015 to January, the FEC flagged 665 foreign donations as well as 3,500 contributions that were over-limit. This is not small potatoes here. The limit for an individual contribution is $2,700 which means that these 3,500 contributors are over-paying by hundreds, if not, thousands of dollars which each contribution. This could easily explain how Sanders just recently reported that his campaign brought in a whopping $42 million in contributions for the month of February.
But even these two aspects of the campaign, the negative attacks and the large spending, could be justified if Sanders was able to deliver on his campaign promise: that millions would rise up and create a political revolution in this country. Unfortunately, that too has fallen woefully flat of expectations.
Maybe ‘we the people’ don’t want a revolution, maybe we just want to be able to drink uncontaminated water and to be able to send our kids to decent schools.
Believe me Don, the way the American system of government is structured by the Constitution, there is absolutely no way any President could bring about a total Revolution.
Is anyone watching the Gov Snyder & EPA hearings? Is this BS coming out of Gov mouth or what. The GOP is blaming the EPA and
when these Presidential A-Holes first thing in office is get rid of the EPA.

The megachurch drama from Emmy nominated writer/producer Craig Wright (“Lost,” “Six Feet Under”) and Lionsgate Television, will regularly air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT for the remainder of its 13-episode first season.

Yes, twice Chips. Hey TOD.
Congrats, COS!
Excellent and important read. Arm yourself with facts:

OMG, the First Family are going to have an amazing trip to Cuba. Check out their itinerary!!
They said last week that they were going after Il Douche.
I get it, Il Douche is a douche, but do we really need to know his SSN#? Just sayin’, we should be better than him.
Agreed. A phone number is one thing, SSN is something else all together. Not cool

Absolutely.
They should close his Twitter account.
If Trump wins the oval office, he will spend all of his time responding to negative press. He is to fickle.
This should disqualify him from ever thinking about being POTUS. Ever.
I hope he did.
I’m feeling sad already, this statement means his time is coming to an end.
CANNOT PROCESS
As I said repeatedly, I wish the Senator from Vermont well. IN VERMONT!!!
I don’t even wish him well in Vermont.
He’ll go back to Vermont and obstruct everything Clinton wants to do out of bitterness. Just my prediction.
