Morning. So, Chips, how do you ever catch up with Danny when he runs so far away from you. Do you have Usain Bolt running skills?

    • March 19, 2025 at 9:11 am

Morning Jackie! The only thing that works is: ‘DO YOU WANT HAM?’ Seriously. :-)

Well, you have got one smart dog who’s learned to associate running far away from you with a ham reward. That means you need to have an endless supply of ham because you have to deliver on your promises or he won’t trust you again.

LOL Chips :) with my dog, it’s always been pizza or grandma- his two favorite words. When I lived in ND and if he got out- he’d just take off, he’d stay close but avoid coming to me… so I would call my mom, who lived two blocks away. She’d drive over, call him and he’d coming running to her :) Loved his grandma & it worked everytime. He doesn’t get out here, but if he’s in the yard and ‘choosing’ not to come in with me… I just yell PIZZA! That works almost as good as grandma.

          What a wonderful story!

LOVES grandma, one of the wisest things I’ve heard in a long time (too much time paying attention to the abominable 2016 Presidential campaign I guess).

          Hugs to ((( Mom ))). :)

P.S. Pizza’s not bad either, but such a heartwarming story.

I am so looking forward to Pete Souza’s photos of Cuba, especially the old Havana. Have the feeling that when American businesses start invading Cuba, they will alter the look and feel of the place forever. It would be nice if foreign businesses had to follow some architectural guidelines. Meantime, winter has come back with a vengeance in our area and we’re dragging the winter coats, scarves and gloves out again. What a bummer!

It’s a real downer, Pf. Plus they’re forecasting 20 mile an hour winds, which I hate even more than snow. Everything starts flying off the porch and you have to battle the headwinds just to walk down the street.

I saw this problem first hand when Western Germany firms invaded former East Germany (the Communist German Democratic Republic) in the summer of 1990 - the first time I was able to visit on a bicycle tour.

      It was awful.

      Agree 100% with you.

Very saddened to think that Cuba might look like Las Vegas or Disneyland (faux everything in the name of commerce), aka the Trumpification of the world. :(

Hope some Cuban activists keep this in mind and voice their concerns to the business leaders and staff who are accompanying the First Family on this historic trip. PBO is just the right person to voice this concern to, since he instinctively factors in the consequences of action — so, so grateful to have a person who truly is focused on the priorities he has made known to the world for at least the past 8 years and who makes decisions with the long-term in mind.

What’s particularly exciting for me is that energetic young Obama Adm. staffers are now active nationwide in Democratic Party, seeking election to office from their hometowns rather than staying in corrosive DC as a despicable lobbyist or MSM talking head.

      For example:

I’ve mentioned before that one of my greatest wishes is for Josh Earnest to return to Kansas and turn that state blue. However, if he chooses to stay in DC, here’s what I’d like to see:

Arapaho, it would be a heavy lift and everything would have to go exactly right if that happened, so I’m not going to raise my hopes. I think that even if we seriously cut the numbers of the majority in the House, it would alter the level of pure arrogance that allows them to block everything. At this point I would be overjoyed with a Dem president, a Dem majority Senate and serious inroads in the House. It’s more than time to pull this country out of the legislative sinkhole into which it dropped in 2010.

This Time Next Year There’ll Be A New President And We’re Going To Miss This One (Author: Bruce Linder)

// It’s slowly dawning on me that by this time next year, we’ll have a new president. And I’m beginning to realize just how much I’ll miss Barack Hussein Obama. I’m reasonably confident that neither the Ochre Ogre of Manhattan nor the Booger-Glob-Gobbler of Calgary will become our next president, but even if it’s Bernie or Hillary; damn, it’s just gonna be so different, and not in a satisfying way. Putting politics aside for the moment (yes, I can actually do so if I apply myself), part of what I’ve appreciated about this president is who he is as a person… His character. His integrity. His intelligence…
…The Republicans will surely be doing handstands come next January when the Obamas leave Washington, but I’m sure they’ll soon find someone else to transfer their hatred to. It’ll either be piled on the first Jewish president or the first woman president. My hope is that either of them are as capable of withstanding the gauntlet that this president has had to endure. And to do so with such class, competence and humor. He’s been one in a billion. I shall miss him immeasurably, and I suspect you will too. He’s been the best president of my lifetime. //

When they show/tell you who they are, listen!

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/karl-oliver-could-care-less

A freshman Mississippi lawmaker responded to a concerned email from a constituent telling her he “could care less,? the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported Friday.

Gulfport resident Becky Guidry told the newspaper that she reached out to Rep. Karl Oliver (R) and most other state representatives asking about tax breaks currently under consideration by the legislature. To Guidry’s surprise, she said Oliver responded to her concerned email—and encouraged her to move out of Mississippi.

“I see you are not a native to the Great State of Mississippi nor do you and I have similar political views,” Oliver wrote to Guidry in the email she passed along to the Clarion-Ledger. “The people of our Great State overwhelmingly share my same or similar views on Government responsibility. I appreciate you going to the trouble to share yours with me, but quite frankly, and with all due respect, I could care less. I would, however, recommend that there are a rather large number of like minded citizens in Illinois that would love to see you return.”

Oliver confirmed to the Clarion-Ledger that he had sent Guidry that email, saying “This isn’t news.?

“She’s taking a question about a tax bill and turning it into me being anti-public education,? he continued.

Guidry told the newspaper that her “blood was boiling? when she read the email, and that she worked, paid taxes, and sent her children to public school in Gulfport.

In March, the Mississippi senate overwhelmingly voted to pass a tax bill that would phase out the corporate franchise tax and reduce both individual and corporate franchise taxes, according to the Washington Times. While Republican state leaders argue that the tax cuts will spur economic growth, critics fear the consequences of a drastic reduction in state revenue.

Good Morning Everyone! I HAVE to share this story or I’m simply gonna burst!

Last night/early this morning while I was posting stuff about the crew arrival at the space station I ran across this interesting post on UK’s Astronaut Tim Peake’s TL. He had called one of my absolute FAVORITE comedians in the whole world, Eddie Izzard to cheer and congratulate him on his latest endeavor. Turns out Eddie is raising money for a charity called Sport Relief by - get this - running 27 marathons in 27 days across South Africa in tribute to Nelson Mandela’s 27 years in prison!!!

Can you imagine such a feat! I sure couldn’t/still can’t! I’m just gobdmacked at how amazing this! I’ve loved and been amazed by Eddie’s work for years With your indulgence, I’m going to post a few tweets about this, because this is BEYOND ANYTHING. Truly!

Standard attitude of GOP legislators…although most aren’t bold enough to say it out loud…

A freshman Mississippi lawmaker responded to a concerned email from a constituent telling her he “could care less,? the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported Friday.

In their tossed salad of situational ethics, the Republicans’ most contradictory and least conservative self-justification is: The court’s supposedly fragile legitimacy is endangered unless the electorate speaks before a vacancy is filled. The preposterous premise is that the court will be “politicized? unless vacancies are left vacant until a political campaign registers public opinion about, say, “Chevron deference.?
