I’m here! So excited. I explained a little on the previous thread…….I’m old enough to remember when trips go Havana were a regular weekend thing for some people.
One thing I love to hear when the President is leaving, is when he gets in the door and says “POTUS on board.” For some reason, that is just powerful to me.
That’s so like PBO to give everyone a seat at the table. Marriott tends to support Republican candidates and CEO endorsed Romney in 2012. I love my President.
Startwood Chief of Latin American Operations says they’re planning to start with 3 luxury hotels first then, eventually expanding to bring in sites from all 11 of their brands.
Wow! I’m crying…..I remember the revolution, the Bay of Pigs, so much is going through my mind right now, and SO GLAD Barack Obama is president of the U.S.A. No other person could have gotten done what he has. Thank God we elected him TWICE!!!
Oh, Carolyn, what anxious times that Bay of Pigs era was. We were so close to a nuclear war with the USSR. Now our president is embracing Cuba and the Cuban people. I’m very glad I’ve been able to see this long arc of history.
Since my husband isn’t here for me to share with, you all are getting my memories. I remember sitting in our den in Washington, D.C. watching President Kennedy speak to the country after the Bay of Pigs and Adlai Stevenson’s speech to the U.N…….we in D.C. were all nervous. The President’s speech was terrific. Even my father, who had been a big Nixon supporter said after that speech…..”he knows what he’s doing. He handled this well, he’ll be all right.” That was a BIG admission for my dad, and his attitude was much more positive toward Pres. Kennedy after that. So many memories are just flooding me!
They were covering the trip up until about 10 mintues before the plane landed. Then they switched to election coverage until wheels down, then they switched back to covering the Cuba trip. I was watching both CNN and CNNI on my TV (switch back and forth between them) and the CBS feed on my laptop.
Like a fool, I yelled, screamed, clapped and jumped up when I saw PBO and MO at the door of AF-1 preparing to descend the stairs. I am sitting in my home alone (after calling my mom to tell her about the event and to turn on CNN) rejoicing and shaking. Wow! This day is monumental no matter how some of the reporters were trying to play it down a bit.
As for the bitter, old-head Cubans in South Florida, they need to get over themselves; it is a new day and it is not the job of the US President to carry out their vengeance.
You’re not alone! We’re with you! Nobody else here in the house with me, but I feel like the world is with me — especially grateful for our TOD Family! :-)
Oh, Dudette, I was just thinking how grateful I am that this wonderful community is together here, sharing these special moments, participating in history- and how the TOD experience has enhanced the Obama presidency for me, even beyond the blessed wonders which are himself and the first family. It just wouldn’t be the same without all of you <3
Thanks Chips for the live stream!
Roll Call!
HF2 - here :)
Wooooot! Go HF!
Hooooooooopefruuuuuuuuit! :-)
I am here with great enthusiasm.
Mark Sanford looking for a new girlfriend?

What do ya know: Both CNN and CNNI carrying news of the President’s trip now.
Well well you don’t say.
What CNN MSNBC buddy Trump is taking the day off?
Lame Duck President - suddenly they realise He is the best thing in the US for the past 100 years.
On no!
CNNI reporting that PBO is bringing the heads of Starwood Hotels and Marriott Hotels here to talk about setting up business to support tourism there.
I hope the Marriott goes at this in a big way because I need 5 star treatment and accommodations on my trip - planning now.
That’s so like PBO to give everyone a seat at the table. Marriott tends to support Republican candidates and CEO endorsed Romney in 2012. I love my President.

Starwood. Sorry.

Excellent. Cuba will soon become a hot vacation and honeymoon destination. This is a big deal.
Glad it was not Trump Hotels.
Is POTUS running late?
No - if anything, he should be earlier than the scheduled arrival time of 4:50PM ET
No, I don’t think so. I believe they left earlier than announced.
AF1 is landing now, more than 30 minutes early…

Yes thank you. I’m watching the youtube live feed which includes a live chat. I’ve posted two comments in Spanish using a translator.

Watching RUPTLY now, but should I switch to cbs or cuba tv?
Don’t think so , not over Cuban airspace. That would be unusual.

The regal Eagel (AF1) has landed safely in Havana!
OMG! It is breath-taking watching AF-1 arrive, even more so because PBO is on it. Woot!
Trivia: Jackie Kennedy had design colors of AF1 made. Now they look more beautiful than ever.
The two Beasts are already there and ready to go. I saw them taxi onto the runway earlier.

Carolyn, we are both of an age to remember those days. I’m right there with you sharing those memories.
JHC, don’t have TV, can’t confirm if this is true or not, but:
Confusing because @jeffreygoldberg tweeted this:

MSNBC has replayed the deplaning several times. Each time I love it.
:-D :-D :-D

The one person on any of these news shows that I have respected is historian David Brinkley. I am always pleased to hear his point of view.
Believe his first name is Douglas - and I totally agree!
