Amen, thank you NW. These last months of the Obama Adminstration are so important. So many things happening and the mom wonāt report any of it. Thank goodness for TOD!
Yes! Over the past 8 years, so many names have graced this page, as blog tyrants, regulars, lurkers, and of course our revered founder Chipsticks. Itās been a most welcoming place, as well as a serious source for reportage and discourse. Nerdy Wonka, I just wish I could draw you in a cape and tights, with some kind of awesome headgear, NW emblazoned on your noble chest- holding up the giant TOD insignia while the storms crackle all around!
I saw him twice. One time it was at the Franklin Institute and it was very crowded and I didnāt get close. The other time he came to an OFA training event in DC. I just missed getting my hand shook. I was so jealous, because three other people I came with got to shake his hand.
That was a terrific segment on the media losing itās mind over Hillary health issue. Now I am really looking forward to hearing from David Fahrenthold on Trump charity giving. Should be revealing.
Jennifer Palmieri of Hillaryās campaign pushed back on this. But Axe needs to get a grip. He may be right, but itās not about him - thereās too much at stake to point the finger at our side, in public. Call Hillaryās campaign if you want to get the word to them, fool.
@davidaxelrod Sir - You are not helping. Go after Trump's campaign. He's the one who needs to shape up - he keeps his LIES private!
Totally agree, NCLB! The “cure” is for Axe to quit whining about Hillary and ask where the hell are trumpās tax returns?.. and whatever else heās hiding.
Thank you always and forever NerdyWonka. You keep on bringing the news and the views and the inspiration and more. We are so blessed. Coming here means the world, and reveals the world, and reminds me how good things are in so many ways and how blessed we are to be living in the time of POTUS/FLOTUS. I loved especially Donās comments on POTUS and Hillary on the Early Bird Chat thread this morning. Lovely and moving. Donna Dem, your gift of musical moments a few days ago when we needed the beat and the joy and high notes and celebrations and the twinkling smile of POTUS at the mike fixing to break into song; it got me back on track, and it lifted my heart and reminded me of everything itās so easy to forget given the things that conspire to rob us of joy and hope and spirit. What a good place, this village. You all bless me every day. We bless each other. Bless ALL our hearts! Love to CHIPS, and to all the media people out there who are doing their jobs and bringing truth and insight and stories and light.

This story in the New York Times today moved my heart completely. Splendid portraits of people who have traveled to the camp at Standing Rock to be present and witness and protest for water and safety and dignity and justice for the Native Americans whose rights have been violated still again. Wish the photos would show up here — is there a way to make that happen when I am posting a link? Anyway, click it and take a little time. Short commentary with each photo. If you can view on computer screen instead of phone, do so. They are large and gorgeous.

āThis is my home, and my granddaughters are going to be here long after Iām gone,ā Mr. Eagle Shield said.
He grew up in North Dakota, on the Standing Rock Reservation. āThere was trees all the way through here, all the way down to the Nebraska border,ā he said of his youth. āThere were trees big enough that it would take five or six guys to hold their hands around to circle those trees. Iām so tired of this election. And certainly Clinton must be.
For her, itās a non-stop pummeling of the most vicious sort. Endless, contradictory criticism, unprecedented, openly crude, openly threatening political chants; bitch, witch, evil, murderer, jail her, hang her, kill her, put a stake through her, she deserves a firing squad, when this is over sheās going to jail. With never a note more positive than she may not be as corrupt as she looks — but how she looks, physically, metaphorically, in the imaginations of the media and their audience, as well as her opponentās supporters, is more than enough to disqualify her, to condemn her, to destroy her. Not just as a politician, but as a human being — as a woman, as a wife as a mother, as a public servant. And no matter how much communication — the endless policy plans released to the press, decades of financial details released on the internet, thousands and thousands and thousands of emails released (not destroyed like her predecessorsā), the policy speeches, interview after interview after interview, meetings, public events, debates and public grilling and inquisition, a record in which nothing is secret, everything has been investigated — they claim that she is secretive, withholding, they find her unknowable, she doesnāt reveal herself, WE donāt know her (donāt want to know her, just want what weāve always known).
And a lot of the ugly narrative comes from or is echoed by her own āside.ā Adding the grief of betrayal to wounds of attack.
Women my age donāt find her mysterious at all. We do know who she is — and we either approve, or we donāt.
If we donāt, we just want her to sit down, shut up, go away, put a lid on it and not, for gawd sakes, rock the boat.
If we do, we feel like strangers in our own country. The flood of hate feels personal — intended to wash away our accomplishments, mock our desire for respect, dissolve the truth of our individuality and worth. Maybe we can never be more than endlessly watched — criticized for not conforming to whatever the watcher is looking for — yet never seen. Maybe thatās what it means to be an American. To be a woman in America.
Like other Clinton supporters, Iāve marveled at her stamina. But this IS meant to kill her. To eliminate her. To finally shut her up.
Can anyone really stand up to it? Can you really just let it roll off your back without consequence?

Nate Silver gives GOP donors a closed-door presentation
By Jonathan Swan
September 12, 2016, 03:04 pm
Nate Silver, the ESPN journalist behind the FiveThirtyEight website, gave a presentation on the 2016 battleground map to a group of powerful Republican donors in Manhattan last week.
Silver was paid to give the presentation by the American Opportunity Alliance, a group led by some of the biggest GOP donors in the country, including hedge fund billionaire Paul Singer and the Ricketts family, which owns the Chicago Cubs.
Silverās closed-door session was part of a two-day confab, held Sept. 7ā8 at Le Bernardin Prive, a private dining room inside a New York City restaurant run by celebrity chef Eric Ripert.
Upward of three dozen top donors attended the gathering, along with senior Republican Party officials and strategists. Silverās presentation on Wednesday afternoon was a highlight of the two-day event, people at the event said.
Ta-Nehisi Coates takes on the response of some in the media to Hillary Clintonās ābasket of deplorables.ā
ā¦what they [journalists] have yet to come to grips with is that Donald Trump is a democratic phenomenon, and that there are actual people ā not trolls under a bridge ā whom he, and his prejudices against Latinos, Muslims, and blacks, represent.
I do not believe that journalists are so powerful as to disabuse this group of their beliefs. But there is something to be said for not contributing to an opportunistic ignorance. For much of this campaign journalists have attacked Hillary Clinton for being evasive and avoiding hard questioning from their ranks. And then the second Clinton is forthright and says something revealing, she is attacked ā not for the substance of what sheās said ā but simply for having said it. This hypocrisy carries a chilling implicit message: Lie to me. Lie to the country. Lie to everyone. This weekend was not just another misanalysis, it was a shocking betrayal of the journalistic mission which should urge the revelation of truth as opposed to the propagation of hot takes, Washington jargon, and politics-speakā¦
The safe space for the act of being white endures today. This weekend, the media, an ostensibly great American institution, saw it challenged and ā not for the first time ā organized to preserve it. For speaking a truth, backed up by data, Clinton was accused of promoting bigotry. No. The true crime was endangering white consciousness. So it was when the president asserted that it was stupid to arrest a man for breaking into his own home. So it was when the president said that if he had a son, he would look like Trayvon Martin. And so it is when reformers suggest police not stop citizens on so flimsy a pretext as furtive movements. The need to be white is a sensitive matter ā one which our institutions are inexorably and mindlessly bound to protect.
Today the Obama Administration announced a proposed rule that would protect basic health care for more than 4 million people by once again making it clear that politically motivated efforts to block women from accessing care at Planned Parenthood and other providers violate federal lawā¦
The proposed rule would reinforce existing protections in the Title X family planning program that prohibit states from excluding Planned Parenthood and other womenās health providers for reasons unrelated to their ability to provide critical Title X services effectively. The Obama Administrationās proposed rule makes it clear that it is against the law for states to prevent low-income women from accessing preventive health care through the Title X program at Planned Parenthood or other womenās health centers on the basis that they also provide abortion.
Congrats on being first, AMK. I had to listen first.
Thank you, Nerdy!
I know I wonāt be first, because Iām listening and watching the President.

Thank you, Nerdy. Most days, without you, weād never know what the hell the President was doing! And I mean that wholeheartedly.
