    Here’s a thing that has been bothering me: have any of you noticed that the top of the Washington monument looks like a KKK hood? The triangular shape and the eye-like window shapes are a glaring reminder.

      October 28, 2017 at 2:42 pm

      I never thought of it that way, CEB. Far be it from me to comment on this, but your observation made me go look it up and also do a quick google*. A part of me was thinking that we can likely see all kind of images (unintended or not, who can prove it?) in *art* because we each bring our own experiences to it. Today, I’ll be a bit presumptuous and suggest you not let this bother you too much, as there’s not much that can be done about it. Maybe, instead we can be further encouraged by the African American museum in DC, and take solace in its presence there as well as in its exhibits.

      *// ……………….
      The Washington Monument, designed by Robert Mills and eventually completed by Thomas Casey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, honors and memorializes George Washington at the center of the nation’s capital. The structure was completed in two phases of construction, one private (1848-1854) and one public (1876-1884). Built in the shape of an Egyptian obelisk, evoking the timelessness of ancient civilizations, the Washington Monument embodies the awe, respect, and gratitude the nation felt for its most essential Founding Father. When completed, the Washington Monument was the tallest building in the world at 555 feet, 5-1/8 inches.

        No worries, especially since I was already aware of much of the history around the building of the monument. I have been watching episodes of Aerial American and the bird’s eye view of the monument really projects that image. My observation was just that, an observation.

          Okay. No worries here either. I had to peek at the history myself and look again at images on the google because, well (in the words of my friend on the other side of the globe), I’m a furrriner. 🙂

    http://www.businessinsider.com/former-senator-tom-coburn-trump-flake-corker-personality-disorder-2017-10

    Former Republican Sen. Tom Coburn said that President Donald Trump has “a personality disorder,” putting him in a cadre of current and former anti-Trump Republican senators that includes Sen. Bob Corker and Sen. Jeff Flake.

    “We have a leader who has a personality disorder,” Coburn told The New York Times on Wednesday, “But he’s done what he actually told the people he was going to do, and they’re not going to abandon him.”

    Coburn is a former medical doctor. He served as the junior senator from Oklahoma from 2005 to 2015, when he was replaced by James Lankford.

    Coburn joins other Republicans who have recently come forward to criticize Trump.
    /////
    This was said on Oct 26th, 2017. Yet , this garnered ZERO Mention on Cablers, Alphabet Channels or on any other National News Publication.
    Yes, Tom Coburn was Not o Nice to Press Obama for 8yrs. This is not about that. Tom Coburn is a Gynecologist, a Medical Doctor who is still a practicing Doctor; hence, he’s still reading up on Psychological articles. He’s a Right Winger, not a Jake Flake or a John McCain. Many Media Presenters feign ignorance on Trump’s Mental state. Here’s a Fmr Senator & a Doctor & the US Press is once again, MUTE of debating #Dotard’s Mental readiness? Disgraceful!

                There’s a little piece of me that is banking on the Obamas’ belief (mine too really) that this generation will respond to the crisis of *their* time by voting out The Idiot’s cronies (GOP). Then the country can rebuild the democracy, caulk some of the loopholes the Idiot exploited, and get things going forward again for grandbabe’s generation.

                I meant to ask what she’s doing these days but got sidetracked before I pushed ‘ebter’.

      I am with Amy Siskind on those three, but I would also include Sessions and Kushner. If it weren’t for the spineless, Republican controlled, U.S. Senate, Jeff Sessions would have been prosecuted for lying to Congress under oath. As for Kushner, he should never have been allowed to have top National Security clearance after he lied about his meetings with the Russians.

      Every time the nazi/kkk/white supremacists show up, the counter-protesters should have a street party. Music, dancing, laughter, and signs showing what we stand for and against. The haters want misery, fear, and terror. We should show unity, positivity as well as contempt. In some instances, no one should show up and let them march with and scream at the law enforcement people who come out to keep the peace.

      It’s also frightening, and it should be a massive wakeup call for all democrats. Because in the 2014 midterm elections, one of the more generous statistics I found placed total voter turnout at only 36.4% of eligible voters. That’s beyond comprehension, and makes a total mockery of the so-called democratic process. And as all of us know, the democrats got a shellacking in that election.

      So, for the 2018 midterms, unless 45 and his administration are in prison by then, you can look forward to more Russian interference, extreme gerrymandering, constant large scale attempts at voter suppression, faulty/compromised voting machines, and of course Citizens United. Then add voter apathy, laziness, and what I can only guess is total cluelessness on too many peoples’ part as to the actual purpose of midterm elections, on top of that, and the prospects are frightening.

      For a $300 million dollar government contract to get awarded and processed this rapidly is almost unheard of. The bidding process alone takes months of research and vetting of every company that bided for the job. It will be interesting to hear from the companies that didn’t get the job.

        Bidding process? I’m pretty sure there was no real bidding process here. Seems like Zinke and Trump just agreed and Presto! Done! Not just a no bid contract, it was a “Don’t Damn Well Question This” contract. Stinks to high heaven.
