TPM: Hey, remember when House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said President Obama walked out of the debt talks yesterday? So, yeah - Obama says that never happened.

“No,” Obama told Cox TV’s Scott McFarlane in an interview Thursday. “At the end of the meeting, what I said to the group was what the American people feel: We have a responsibility to do the right thing. We shouldn’t be partisan, we should solve problems.”

The interview was one of a few sit-downs Obama did with local television reporters from across the country today. In addition to the interview with McFarlane, he spoke to TV stations in Philadelphia and Washington, DC.

Won’t do a prime time presser on a Friday. I think he’s saving an oval office address the day Moody’s downrates the bonds which could come next week, and then will have another come August 2nd or 3rd if there is no deal reached.

The day time pressers is just to keep controlling the narrative and putting pressure on the GOP. I hope he shoots down the Reid/McConnell plan as unworkable and typical Washington kicking the can down the road.

Yes, the Reid/McConnell plan kick the can down the road. A raising a clean debt ceiling is also kicking the can down the road. I think the president would like to get deficit reduction done and focus on the jobs front. The firebagger don’t understand what Obama is trying to do.See the daily kos for the delusional firebaggers.

Did I hear Chris the interviewer say at the end: “I could tell that this is a president who really wants a deal but whether he could really do what it takes to get it is the question?”

This is excellent, go around the beltway media and take it to the local stations.

Good interview. I hope POTUS keeps taking the discussion directly to the American people and calling out the republicans for the shysters they are. Thank goodness he keeps holding their feet to the fire. Cantor wants a three month or six month short term deal that just kicks the can down the road. Then he wants to go on a month long recess, and line his pockets with cash from the lies he will sell. They have met their match. They don’t deserve even a whole weekends rest if they don’t act like adults and resolve the issue.

REPORT: In 12 Years, Income For Richest 400 Americans Quadruples, Tax Rate Nearly Halved

New data released by the IRS reveals that, over a period of 12 years, tax rates for the richest 400 Americans were effectively cut in half. In 1995, the richest 400 Americans paid, on average, 29.93% of their income in federal taxes. In 2007, the last year for which the IRS has released data, the richest 400 Americans paid just 16.63%.

Saw the interview. I don’t think he clearly explained what the debt ceiling was. Most people don’t know what it is. They think it’s a raise TO SPEND more money when it’s to pay for money ALREADY SPENT.

Mr. President, please explain what happens when the US AAA credit rating is downgraded and how that effects the regular family and small businesses!

      What did he say Lisa?

He said that back in the 1993, when then President Bill Clinton proposed cuts to entitlement programs like SS and Medicaid, there was NO objections from liberals, and when President Bill Clinton proposed tax hikes to generate increased revenue, there was very little objection from Republicans. Both sides cooperated with President Clinton who authorized tax hikes as well as cuts to programs, resulting in a thriving economy, which actually made the rich wealthy as ever, and created jobs.

Why are people on both sides now outraged when President Obama is proposing essentially the same thing as Bill Clinton?

That was the gist of Lawry’s argument.

I wonder who is paying O’Donnell to be nice speaking of PBO? Before these debt ceiling talks go heated up he constantly bashed the President. hmmm……….at least we have seen some positive change no matter the motive.
