Bob Cesca: The Republicans are growing a little worried about the mission they mandated to the “Super Committee” because the Obama Administration is now seeking to use that committee to pass the president’s jobs proposal.
…. what the president is asking the committee to do is to agree to even more deficit reduction, and just when I thought this administration couldn’t impress me any more with their deviousness, they pull another rabbit out of their hat.
…. In case you don’t understand - the Congressional Budget Office has scored the president’s jobs proposal as deficit-reducing beginning in 2013. This is accomplished by accounting for the closure of tax-loopholes and the revenue that will be generated by a wave of new jobs. This mean’s the “Super Committee” can include the president’s jobs proposal in their mandated mission to find over a trillion in savings over the next 10 years.
This is why the Republicans are now downplaying their expectations of the Super Committee and suggesting the committee should go small. Not big.
They’re playing catch-up to President Obama, and opposing a jobs bill and more deficit reduction at the same time may be beyond the vast, obstructionist powers of the Republicans. Their only remaining option may be to stall and do nothing…..

Of course, the Republicans are so boxed in that they are left to complaining about the PAPER CLIP that President Obama is using to bind the American Jobs Act legislation together:
http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/09/fox-news-troubled-by-obamas-use-of-paper-clip.php?ref=fpb
And the professional left thinks that this silliness is going to defeat President Obama and the Democrats next year? Give me a break!
Now that the paper clip is gone, I guess we can expect to hear about THE NUMBER OF PAGES in The American Jobs Act. For some reason, the Republicans have an obsession with the number of pages in a bill. Fox will find some way to ridicule the size of the document. Or maybe they will claim that the USA map on the front cover does not show the outlines of all of the states. They got nothin……..
“For some reason, Republicans have an obsession with the number of pages in a bill.” Yup it’ illiteracy and reading retention disorder.
Every time I think the Teapublicans and their hacks cannot possibly get any dumber - THEY GET DUMBER
I hope he continues to be one step ahead of the bunch and expose them on a daily basis;if only he could count of his fellow democrats
Morning, Fred:) Hope you’re feeling well today….I think he’s a little more than just ONE step ahead! This is the stuff of great campaigns….we need to be his mouthpiece for this…..wicked smart like this doesn’t come around often:) Love him.
hiya Desert.Feeling okay today.Yes we need to be his mouthpiece;all day everyday and I hope folks keep DWS’s twitter close when something pops up and I hope all is well with you
Glad you’re feeling okay today.
Morning Fred. Peace and blessings to you. i got a late start today and wasn’t too sure if i was going to join in today. The negative news from yesterday had me in a blue funk. So i took my meds and now the funk is gone. 4 more for 44!
Thanks for posting this, Chips! This man is SO FAR AHEAD of the rest of them, it’s not even funny! Wonder how they like being in “the corner”? Made my day!
The DC media are the republicans base! Msnb-fix is pushing that mene that the unemployment rare is the highest for AA communtity under an AA president!
This needs to be addressed before it sticks! I know that the AA community has always had a high unemployment number, and the recession makes that worse!
But, the republicans are saying it is because the president does not care, or his policies are no good!
So, let’s put in Rick perry, yeah, he cares sooo much for African Americans? Not!
I am tweeting this to AttackWatch, I hope you don’t mind
Thanks!
Olivia GO all the way tweet, tweet, tweet , this AM the lead story was Anthony winner lost in N.Y and what would
whappened to Obama in 2012 wow the MSM will never tell us the truth so let’s gey use to, it I wonder how the other side in
the orange site are saying? my guest is that they will blame the lost to PBO.
So Mr President we have your back yes we can.
I noticed something on MSNBC. Instead of saying “NY 9 a referendum on Obama in 2012″, it read “GOP says…..” The coverage hasn’t been great but you’re hearing that this is what Republicans say, not necessarily what’s true. Additionally there’s a crawl quoting Steny Hoyer about the low turnout and it’s meaninglessness for Obama and the Dem’s.
It could be a lot worse. It’s bad enough coverage, but it could be worse.
African Americans can see through this, as can most Americans that recognize the racial disparity that exists in this country. They insult both my intelligence and my sense of common decency.
For fat cat rich bastards who have held the levers of power to insinuate this is plain absurd. FOOLS.
Good to hear!
Sue in Minnesota this is how we in the Mexican American comunity feel, but we will be stronger if we can stay togerther
as Americans no matter wher we come from we are all good people and we can show the other people that we are noy
ignorant.
As an AA, I agree also, Sue.
I agree, Sue. Being that I am a Black American, older, and having seen the worst type of despicable behavior a group of so-called Christians can mete out to their fellow human beings, I am not buying the republicans’ attempts to blame PBO for the high rate of unemployment in black communities across America. They had 8 years to target the problem but refused to address it, and now, they want us to believe that they’re in our “corner, working to help us? Sorry, republicans, but that mess won’t fly with the majority of blacks in this country. Do you think we’re stupid, republicans? We see how you treat PBO, the poor, gay persons, women, atheists, Hispanics, Muslims, etc, and you think we trust you? You do horrible, soul destroying things and think a simple propaganda campaign will endear us to you? You not only aren’t fooling me, but you aren’t fooling the majority of the other blacks in this country. We recognize filth when we see it. If you mistreat the groups I mentioned, we know you’ll mistreat anyone who gets in your way. Think about this republicans and tell me, who is the most stupid, black Americans, or you?
Sorry for the rant in the last part of my comment, but I’ve had more than enough of these jokers. If I had listened to them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Success is the best revenge against these tools. This is why they are trying so hard to bring PBO down. He is very successful, and they know he’s heads and shoulders above them in intellect, character, physical well-being, family values, and everything else.
The msm could talk about the narrative that chips brings every day!
But, They choose not to inform us!
This man debunks all the right wing myths of liberal ideology:
http://pleasecutthecrap.typepad.com/main/2011/09/assessing-right-wing-assessments-of-phony-liberal-mythology.html
PBO has them boxed in.
You got it!
This is the point I made yesterday, that the Republicans are in a position to where no matter how much they spin, they CANNOT WIN!
If the Republicans vote AGAINST the American Jobs Act, President Obama will be able to campaign on the Republicans playing political games and keeping Americans unemployed and refusing to send them back to work. If the Republicans vote FOR the American Jobs Act, they will be perceived as caving by the TeaPug base.
It’s too bad the emoprogs don’t come to this realization, just yesterday I was on a thread at HuffnPuff (not posting there, just reading) about how President Obama planned to pass the American Jobs Act in parts, and not the whole thing at once. The emoprogs there were once again whining about President Obama “caving” and “capitulating,” repeating the lies from Arianna Huffington, Adam Greene, Jane Hamsher, almost VERBATIM. None of them posted about how every labor union in the country backs the American Jobs Act and that even their hero Richard Trumpka supports it.
CBO Endorses the American Jobs Act
http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2011/09/cbo-endorses-the-american-jobs-act.html
Brian Beutler reports that the CBO has essentially endorsed the American Jobs Act:
“If policymakers want to achieve both a short-term economic boost and long-term fiscal sustainability the combination of policies that would be most effective according to our analysis would be changes in taxes and spending that would widen the deficit today, but narrow it in the coming decade,” Elmendorf told the panel’s 12 Democrats and Republicans. “The combination of fiscal policies that would be most effective would be policies that cut taxes or increase spending in the near-term, but over the medium and longer-term move in the opposite direction.”
This is a generalized version of precisely what President Obama is proposing — a $447 billion jobs bill that will increase spending on hiring programs, and reduce payroll taxes; accompanied by deficit reduction measures that take effect in 2013, to more than cover the cost of the jobs bill.
And a myriad of other economists and experts have also applauded the president’s jobs plan.
Of course this is meaningless to the Republicans because everyone is engaged in a liberal conspiracy against them, including co-conspirators Math, Rationality, Logic and Common Sense.
Your last line is priceless. Send that tweet around the world.
It’s not mine, it’s actually Bob Cesca’s, but point taken!
Glad the CBO scored it positively. Republicans keep marching to the beat of political suicide because they don’t want to gve President Obama a “win” so to speak. One thing they’ve forgotten is that PBO on the road is phenomenal and the support he’s getting from all corners is positive. The American people are getting more than tired of their mess and if they want to take it to the ballot box; they’d better be careful what they wish for.
No resting on laurels by any means…..make it BIGGER! PBO is helping them did the hole:)
http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2011/09/are-you-paying-attention-public-policy.html
Sorry…DIG the hole:) Been up all night…going to be a L O N G day!
So, GE is paying back Warren buffet 3.3 billion!
Warren put in 3 billion in 2009 to give the company some equity!
Well, Warren made 300 million in two years!
Smart man!
On a much smaller scale: my best friend works for a privately owned manufacturing company in PA. Instead of going on austerity, all the higher-ups took cuts, didn’t take bonuses etc. in order to keep as many people employed as possible.
This company has a good deal of foreign competition. But while the competition wasl going on austerity and drying up investment, this mid-sized company began to invest. Began to sell their American-made products and got more customers. Invested in their company, their workforce.
Their competition before the Bush recession — caught with their proverbial pants down while this company invested and they’re recovering when their competition is not.
A small story, but an important story to tell.

Good Morning TOD family
Time to get to work. I would like to thank all who chose to make comments on NY9 that were positive, instructive and helpful.
We need to practice handling defeat in a constructive way. This situation in NY will make us twice as dedicated to working for PBO as an OFA volunteer, working our phones and email in support of the Jobs bill for the weeks to come, and overcoming our shyness about talking to our neighbors.
CALL TO ACTION
1. We need to send email, call, tweet not only the elected officials in our district, but in honor of the NY 9th we should all select 9 more elected officials and contact them as well. It can be Democrats or Republicans, just DO IT. Stop reading the blog right now and pick up the phone or start filling out email contact pages.
2. At the OFA blog, when a troll starts making tacky comments about the President they donate 1 dollar to OFA as retaliation, we need to develop responses to negative things that will happen. If we can’t make a donation, we can say - called my Representative in honor of Dennis Kunich’s stupid comments”
3. My final call to action is the hardest, but the one that will do the most good. In an article written by smartypants a few weeks ago she spoke of the true gift of Martin Luther King. He taught folks to face their greatest fears and overcome them. I truly believe the folks who bring panic to this blog do not do it to bring us down or cause stress, I believe they are afraid and use the blog to reduce their stress. So……..
Let’s do things that help us face our fears and overcome them. Each day, let’s share a “fear of the day” - once it is shared we can brainstorm positive ways to handle it.
I recommend we use only 1 fear per day so it doesn’t overtake blog discussion, and lead to a “gripe fest”. I will start and tomorrow someone else can pick the fear.
I believe many of us would like to help with phone banking, but are afraid, nervous, don’t have an OFA group in their community, think they will do it wrong, etc.
So…. after you have stepped away form the blog to contact 9 elected officials, post to this blog about what is stopping you from phone banking and we can offer support and advice. Don’t be afraid to share, for every person who admits their fear, there are probably 20 who feel just like you and are hesitant to admit it.
Well, I called hoyer and van hollen this morning to tell them to pass the bill!
Also, told them to corall the progressives who slam the president every day on tv!
Sounds good - but also sounds like LOD thinking he has the President’s strategy down and there would be a clean debt ceiling raise and when it didn’t happen that way he went hard against the President ever since.
I don’t know what the President’s strategy is, but I do know we’re all a major part of it as he keeps harping on us contacting our senators and reps, and prodding our like-minded family, friends and neighbors to do the same. Have your spouse contact your Senators and Reps separately - don’t call speaking for your household, because that is only one call. Whatever the President is planning, he needs us to keep the pressure on.
The President’s strategy is actually not that complex: keep on extending his hand to Republicans and keep on expecting them to push him away and spit in his face, metaphorically speaking. The moderate/independent voters that he depends on like the fact that he’s staying above the fray and despise the fact that the Republicans and even some Democrats are working against him.
People need to quit acting like President Obama’s strategy is extremely complex, it’s actually quite simple. It’s just that the MSM noise makes it seem complex, we need to filter out and ignore that MSM noise.
Unfortunately, that is not all that the ‘independent’ voter wants. Polls since the debt ceiling have indicated that they would like to see more ‘fight’, for lack of a better word.
And that’s what they’ve gotten, Obama-style: A bold plan that, if and when rejected by Republicans, only shines more light on the scurrying Republican cockroaches.
There is EVERY indication that Obama will no longer accept “98% of what we want” from the Boehner/Cantor crowd. Obama and the Dem’s get their fair share, or this President will cross-cross this country and tell the American people that it is Republicans who are taking their jobs, their Social Security and Medicare, their emergency services. If the Republicans cave, then it’s Republicans caving to Obama’s bill. Win-win.
A suggestion: ‘independent’ and ‘moderate’ are not interchangeable. There used to be a right, left and center. Now, the ‘independents’ are either dissatisfied partisans or the lazy group of uninterested, unengaged voters who can’t tell truth from fiction and vote by the last tale they were told. That requires different tactics than if they were truly moderate.
Good Morning Everyone-) Chips (thanks for all you do)
Been busy calling, volunteering…folks aren’t as fired up in my hood…(red state) yuck.. The Media owned by R/W are doing a heck of a job
by mus-informing people…This election will be tougher than any….IMHO, based on what I see around me. Folks better start putting boots on the ground…and as Donna was saying earlier, I don’t feel the sense of urgency with respect to Dems….PBO can’t do it alone, Phones haven’t been that busy??? Yet PBO has been asking people, to call, tweet….even Visit their offices, I believe that If everyone showed up at every state capitol just as WI, did, maybe the visual will have an effect. Thanks everyone for all you do here on this site….Chips thanks and I am grateful for this blog, where I have a voice.
Keep Hope Alive: here’s a line to PBO’s NC speech:-)

I agree. The phone lines haven’t been blown up - 10 million twitter followers and the vast, vast majority of them are not making calls. 20M facebook friends and they’re not making calls. I guess everybody thinks following on twitter, being a friend on facebook and attending a rally is enough.
They’ll be making calls when the campaign season gets into full swing.
That being said, there’s no excuse for not starting early.
OFA will work to push the bill just like with the Health Care bill.

That will be very helpful to read. If there’s one thing I think we’ve learned form politics in the USA, it’s that Republicans hate to hear that they’re wrong.
I wonder if Senator Harry Reid can pass the American Jobs Bill by reconciliation. Because it is taxes, and part of the budget. If so it can pass the Senate with 51 votes. And with 190 Democratic members in the house all they need is 29 or 30 Republican House members that won in Democratic districts in 2010 to vote with them to pass this bill. Those members should be pressured to the max by their constituents to pass this bill.
Mark Knoller said Reid thinks the Senate can get to the jobs bill “next work period.” He’s got other priorities now incl FEMA, Highway & Trade bills. So to me just like Senator Reid did in Dec to pass DADT and the other 5 bills. He’s got something up his sleeve to get this bill passed through the Senate. Well I can hope can’t I?
Oh and to add. Maybe this is why President Obama want to send the Jobs bill through the deficit committee. That deficit bill have to pass both houses on an up or down vote. Either way I think it will pass. At least most of it.
I think reconciliation means a combination of two bills? I don’t think Reid can do this unilaterally.
I may be wrong and await information.
