*Gasp!* Great job Donna. The weather looks gorgeous. The second picture with the quotation about the measure of a man is stunning! The sky is blue, MLK Jr. emerging from the rock with the sunlight hitting him at that angle is breathtaking. Just wow. The close up picture of MLK Jr. is awe inspiring.
Damn…..!!!!! Rev Al is FIRED UP!!!! He said “We’re not gonna bow our heads in shame; we came from the back of the bus to the WHITE HOUSE!!! We’re Dr. King’s children!” #Truth
If the republicans think that they are going to steal this election in 2012, they had better think twice. Rev. Al is a natural born leader and he knows how to inspire. Of course CNN and no one else showed his speech; not even online streaming.
“We put the wind behind JFK. We put the wind behind Johnson. We’re gonna put the wind behind President Obama and make sure congress passes his jobs bill.” @TheRevAl #MarchOnWashington
What I love about Rev Al which he shares with PBO is understands how crucial it is to organize to reach a goal. Real change happens from the bottom up.
Wow, UT! The Rev. is speaking TRUTH! This the truth that the haters of President Obama are either ignorant of, or simply don’t want to hear. People who valorize LBJ because of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act, forget the “wind behind him” created by the Civil rights movement such as the 1960-61 student Sit-in and Freedom-Rides, the 1963 March on Washington; SNCC’s 1964 Freedom Summer; and the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery March.
“You spent the money; you put us in debt! Now you want to take away our social security; now you want to take away our medicare. You gave tax cuts to the wealthy; now you want to talk about responsibility. This is not about Obama; it’s about your mama!!!” @TheRevAl #Truth
Donna - I don’t know how you are keeping your emotions “in check” this month! First, to receive the news you will be getting a call from President Obama … and now today to see these lovely sights on the National Mall and at the MLK Memorial. So very happy for you - couldn’t happen to a nicer person/supporter!
These photos are very dramatic. The “I Am a Man” posters just brought me right back to the ’60s. Thanks to you and Chips for bringing all this to us!
Also, endless thanks to you, Chipsticks, for your incredible dedication to making it all possible. Your positive energy and dedication are unbelievably inspiring and sustaining.
I, too, so appreciate all that you do here on TOD. Don’t know what I’d do without you, especially after BWD had to take a break. I am unable to see some of the videos when I used to be able to see all of them. Do you know why? I am using a Mac, but also with my other laptop from work which is an HP, some are just black.
J’OB to stand in front of that moument and feel the history of the movement that he headed and all the struggles that went with it was a powerful experience.
Chipstick could you send my email to collegekay. I put my public gmail addy in my response to her, however it didn’t show up. via email, you can send both the gmail and yahoo addys. Thanks
Everyone is fed up and sick of these blue dogs. They should take a lesson from Blanche Lincoln. The country has awakened and the things these folks use to get away with is all out in the open now.
In reading some of Martin Luther Kings writings, some are truly profound… My heart cries
Being a Negro in America means trying to smile when you want to cry. It means trying to hold on to physical life amid
psychological death. It means the pain of watching your children grow up with clouds of inferiority in their mental skies. It means
having your legs cut off, and then being condemned for being a cripple. It means seeing your mother and father spiritually
murdered by the slings and arrows of daily exploitation, and then being hated for being an orphan.
Martin Luther King, Jr., Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?, 1967.
“It means the pain of watching your children grow up with clouds of inferiority in their mental skies.”
I thank God everyday…that MLK made it possible for President Obama to take his children to see what this great man was able to achieve in his short stay on earth. Love, Freedom, Equality….We have a long way…but Oh Boy!!! did we make progress:-)
Oh thank you Donna- I don’t get tv at all.. and couldn’t find a live stream anywhere- and I really needed this positive hopeful stuff today. I’m so glad you were able to attend this & thanks chips for posting it all.
You know I was thinking today that when POTUS leaves office in 5 years he could take OFA with him.. and go right back to his Community organizing ways- with the force of OFA already set up- and he’d be able to then effect change in an even bigger way.
exactly.. we’d go with him .. plus he’d then be in a position to put his own $ into it.. and steer it to all kinds of issues. I can’t imagine he’s going to let us get away- after all the hardwork organizing/training folks, etc. Or maybe he’ll just leave it to the democrats as a political machine.. but I still wonder if he doesn’t have bigger plans way down the road for it/ us.
What a thought, Sherijr! Just imagine a post-presidential-community-organizer-PBO organizing a march for the middle class to oppose repealing A PARTICULAR LAW that his 2012-16 administration had put in place!! I can imagine the crowds he would draw!
Donna and Chips - Now that I’m healthy, I’m living my life again ( : ) and rarely online.
Just wanted top say that TOD is one of the most fantastic blogs I’ve been involved in. Donna’s efforts, facilitated and supported by Chips - you are both wonderful.
I’m fine but I’m off the Holmes Ray Stress Chart for sure Just getting my life back to normal, when my son gets engaged. Planning a beach wedding here in CT.
Thanks so much BWD…for this inspiring story..I chocked up, they say this man is not connected with the people, yet he finds time for everything, including this phone call…I hope he wins tonight in his boxing match…But in my eyes He’s already won.
PBO is simply a Great Human Being….May God continue to bless him.
Over on Mudflats there is a wonderful photo of 86 year old twins in AZ picketing from their wheelchairs. Can someone bring it over here at some point? Don’t want to intrude on the MLK activity-so appreciate these pictures-God bless
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MEMORIAL TO THE LEGACY OF DR. KING AND TO THE DREAMS CAPTURED IN THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IN THIS NATION…ALL THE MORE REASON TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD OURSELVES TOWARD TRUTH,JUSTICE AND EQUALITY. HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL AND WE CAN NEVER,EVER GIVE UP ON OUR STRUGGLE TO MAKE MANKIND WORTHY OF GOD’S LOVE AND CREATION!

Actually, MSNBC showed his speech. That’s where I watched it.
Yes, I meant to say except MSNBC. I saw it on MSNBC also.

What I love about Rev Al which he shares with PBO is understands how crucial it is to organize to reach a goal. Real change happens from the bottom up.
Gonna borrow that, if I may.

I tweeted that if that’s ok.

Go Rev. Al…go! He just knows how to bring it! Power to the people!

You’re so lovely Pamela, thank you so much - it’s all my complete pleasure. Hey, I get to hang out with you amazing people, how perfect is that?!
Chipsticks, you are so wonderfully modest! I have a request…I didn’t see Rev Al on msnbc. Is there anyway you can locate the video and upload it here?
I, too, so appreciate all that you do here on TOD. Don’t know what I’d do without you, especially after BWD had to take a break. Who is going to the MLK unveiling tomorrow? We should have a TOD meetup.
I’m game. email me at and I’ll send my phone numbers.

You know I was thinking today that when POTUS leaves office in 5 years he could take OFA with him.. and go right back to his Community organizing ways- with the force of OFA already set up- and he’d be able to then effect change in an even bigger way.
oh good grief - don’t know who cnn has video taping this.. but they are lousy- showing feet more than anything else.
Brilliant idea. We’d have to commit to supporting this financially, or, become OFA ourselves.
exactly.. we’d go with him

Yep, OFA could still be quite a force after he serves his second term ~ especially under his leadership.
Thank You Rev Al!! What an inspiring day. I absolutely LOVE this pic with MLK’s statue, and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s memorial and dedication!
Here’s another beautiful story about the PBO:
