CNN: A march on Washington originally scheduled to coincide with August’s opening of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, but postponed due to Hurricane Irene, will take place today.

The march, organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, hopes to “start a drive to bring forth the masses of those who have not been heard in the middle of this jobs debate,” he told a news conference.

It will occur the day before the rescheduled opening ceremony for the King Memorial, which also was postponed because of the hurricane.

The march will begin with a rally at the Lincoln Memorial and conclude near the King Memorial. Sharpton called the route “emancipator to liberator.”

****

Coverage of tomorrow’s dedication ceremony starts on Whitehouse.gov/live at 9:00 AM ET

8:0 am: The dedication activities will begin with an hour-long “Morning Joy” program

9:0 am: The Dedication program, emceed by PBS NewsHour’s Gwen Ifill, begins with tributes to Dr. King with the words of noted speakers including civil rights leaders and King family members, as well as musicians and poets. President Barack Obama will deliver the dedication address.

11:0 am: Dedication will take place in the forecourt of the Memorial. Herman “Skip” Mason, general president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Aretha Franklin, Harry Johnson, president and CEO of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Foundation, and President Barack Obama will participate. Special guests include Vice President Joe Biden, United States Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, and more.

Chipsticks, you are like Santa Claus,
leaving us all these pictorial treats and surprises
for us here on a Saturday morning.
    Thank you.

I learned a lot last week:
about how to endure a defeat delivered to us by ignorance
    and/or willful meanness of spirit.
    That’s how I’m calling it.
I’m taking my cue from PBO and you guys: ~relax~.
    We have work to do.

I LOVE coming here to be with the rest of you.

I do think we have to be careful/prayerful about
what we cultivate in our minds and deep hearts
about those who do not see things our way.
    I don’t have my hands on it, quite, yet;
    but I’m working on it.

Meanwhile: yes we CAN do more together.
    Let’s move forward. xoxxo

Doesn’t look like the OWS movement is fizzling. Demonstrations planned in 951 cities, 82 countries tomorrow. Unrest here and around the world.

Good morning Chips and TOD family! I can’t wait to follow all that happens today and tomorrow. I am sorry the dedication for MLK is so early, that is right during the time I will be at church. I know that Chips will have all the video here and that I will be able to read everyone’s comments here who are watching it live.

I am off to a meeting, have a great day everyone.

Of course, glen beck has a get together and he had wall to wall coverage.

        I thought it would be on C-Span, I can’t find it…………..

I did find that from last year
C-SPAN to Broadcast Glenn Beck’s ‘Restoring Honor’ Rally

        Figures……..

        It’s very frustrating.

I saw on MSNBC that they will air Rev. Al speech later on….that’s about it.

Oh wait, the Pundits on tv say that the President hates people? Lol.

He does not hate people, he hates DC elites…

      Going to read it now.

    • October 15, 2025 at 11:08 am

Hiya BWD, almost wept when I read it. But I know what you mean, it makes you realize what a good man he is and how desperately he wants to make things better for people.

    • October 15, 2025 at 11:09 am

It’s really sad indeed bwd. So many problems. And just one man, who is really sincere about solving them, is thwarted from all corners.

    • October 15, 2025 at 11:17 am

Very moving piece. Of course I did not scroll down to read any comments. No need to spoil my morning.

        October 15, 2025 at 11:44 am

I actually read the 3 comments there…..all assbackwards of course…..and it comes to me again, that these very 3 imbeciles have probably never lifted a finger to attempt even a minimum of the effort President Obama has put forth all his life, from elementary school to now, to help to make a person’s life better. So I say to hell with them because they are the scum of the earth, and have evil in the stone they call a heart. God is always watching us.

Thanks for the link BWD. It makes one sad to realize all the titanic opposition he faces day after day and how it affects people who desperately need help. The article made me choke up at the thought of how one could be the most powerful leader in the world and at the same time feel helpless due to the obstacles stacked against him and the fervent obsessive wish of the other side to kick him out of the White House - mostly because of the color of his skin - and stop the good he has already achieved. On other hand it gave me hope that we do indeed have the right man as President. We have a leader who is kind, warm-hearted, compassionate, unselfish, and a visionary. I hope there are many more letters with good news coming his way and he knows that there are millions - scratch that - billions of people who are rooting for him and who have his back.

Hey BWD, thank for the link!

“A few times during his presidency, Obama admitted, he had written a personal check or made a phone call on the writer’s behalf, believing that it was his only way to ensure a fast result. “It’s not something I should advertise, but it has happened,” he told me. Many other times, he had forwarded letters to government agencies or Cabinet secretaries after attaching a standard, handwritten note that read: “Can you please take care of this?”

^^^ Very telling, and not surprising, considering the other stories I’ve read about him doing similar things before he was president. I’d bet he wishes he could solve all the individual problems so easily, I know that if I had the resources or the influence, I’d probably be compelled to take care of people like that too.

Thank BWD for the link. PBO truly care about people. He seems to be the only person in Washington who feels that way though.

As for Anita Perry!!! This woman wants to be first lady??? Compare this whiny self-centered, liar to our Michelle. FLOTUS always carries herself with grace and dignity. She, like POTUS cares about the people of this country. These republicans disgust me.

How can you get up there and lie like Anita Perry did. Knowing her son step down on his own, but she tried to blame the President for him not having a job. I have a feeling Perry is going to lock her in the closet for a few weeks.
