    Oy!

Stupid statement because it just echoes the point the President was making in the presser today - that the GOP is against anything that he is for. So Boehner bragging that the veto threat won him votes in his caucus just re-enforces this point.

Still one of my favorites, especially when I think of all that he did that day: visited and comforted those in a tornado ravaged town, down to Fla. to visit Gabby and the astronauts at NASA (the lift-off was scrubbed because of weather), delivered an inspiring commencement speech at Miami-Dade, flew back to DC to put that fool in his place, all after giving the go ahead to take down Osama. PBO is like no other. I am not easily impressed, but I am in awe of his many gifts. The reason thatTrump acts as he does toward PBO is that he wants recognition and respect from the president. PBO ignores Trump because he acts like a spoiled child and he has nothing of real value to offer to anyone or anything.

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/updates/2590 Rick Santorum to make a “major” announcement tomorrow…..I’ll wait with bated breath! 6 pm….then going on Hannity. I’ll be sure to relax by cleaning toilets or something important.

    • 57 saintroscoe
      December 8, 2025 at 6:30 pm

I believe he has a daughter that is sick, and he said the only way he’d drop out before NH was if she took a turn for the worse. I hope it’s not that. But outside of dropping out I don’t know what possible major announcement Santorum could make. Maybe a Huckabee endorsement? But Huck’s not going to endorse somebody polling single digits.

      • 58 desertflower
        December 8, 2025 at 7:04 pm

well, I wish his daughter well, and I certainly hope that it’s not that. However, if he does have a sick daughter, and he knows the angst of that, then he should want others to have the kind of healthcare that he does,No excuse for that. I think he should drop out. He has to know that this is going nowhere fast.

        • 59 conlakappa
          December 8, 2025 at 10:03 pm

He talked about healthcare in the opposite way. I still wonder where his health coverage comes from. His daughter has a genetic illness, which certainly wouldn’t have been covered without an ACA.

      • 60 theo67
        December 8, 2025 at 7:14 pm

Glad you posted the Rob Cornilles ad as I saw signs all over the place here for him in Oregon earlier. None of them pointed out that he was a Republican. They all seemed like he was an Independent. His ads on tv left out his party too. My Sister-in-law thinks of him as an Independent. She lives in his District and is a staunch Dem but did not like Rep Woo. I saw results on tv on his election that said he was a Repub. and I tried to tell her. His run reminds me of Scott Brown’s run. Where he never mentioned his party and talked favorably of the Kennedys. Pretended to be with what the people wanted and rode around in his pickup. I hope my Sister-in-law gets it before the real election.

I hope that’s it. From what I can tell, drone technology isn’t particularly complicated. Still, the electronics should’ve been protected so that it couldn’t be hijacked.

        December 8, 2025 at 7:07 pm

We are gonna get it back, unfortunately, that’s only gonna happen after they’ve had it for some period of time, like with Pakistan. Medvedev will ensure we get it back after they’ve photographed it, taken it apart and done what-the-fuck-ever they can to better understand and possibly the design. We obviously need to do a better job of that self destruct button on the remote control. This is such bullshit. Fracking Iran. Bastards.

        • 103 lisalovesobama
          December 8, 2025 at 7:12 pm

**** possibly copy the design.***** Also, fracking design team! Back to the drawing board. I think this debacle is more the fault of design than the CIA. We’ve all got to know that these things can be captured. The onus of responsibility is on the design team. If our weapons get captured, then there should be a way to destroy them before the enemy can steal our secret design info. This was pure bullshit.

That’s really good. If all they’ve got is the shell, and not the sophisticated tech info, then there’s no point crying over spilt milk. The drone will be returned as a sign of good faith by the Russians after they’ve stuck their ugly faces into every square inch of the plane’s design.

WASHINGTON-The back-to-back NATO/G8 meetings in Chicago will take place in McCormick Place with the dates firmed up on Thursday, between May 19 and 21, NATO, the State Department and the city said.
Planning for the events is ramping up, with logos and a website also unveiled on Thursday. In Brussels, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton-a Chicago native- and NATO Secretary General Anders Rasmussen waxed on about coming to Chicago. The G8 summit, hosted by President Barack Obama is on May 19-20; the NATO session, run by Rasmussen is on May 20-21.
“Chicago is city which inspires, and I have seen that with my own eyes when I visit Chicago, meeting its dynamic people, enjoying its magnificent skyline. Chicago is a city where great ideas are born, as well as great diplomats, like you, Madam Secretary,” Rasmussen said. Rasmussen offered so much praise for the city Clinton said she was going to call Mayor Rahm Emanuel and tell him.
“And Chicago is a city where many cultures come together, including many cultures of European allies. Chicago is a city built upon diversity and determination. And those values underpin NATO, too. So Chicago is a fitting host for the NATO summit as we endeavor to implement our vision of an alliance ready to tackle the security challenges of the 21st century.”
To that Clinton replied, “Well, that was so magnificently said, Secretary General. And you’re right, I was born in Chicago. I love the city. I think everyone will not only enjoy being there because of the NATO summit but also the attractions of Chicago. And we are all looking forward to welcoming you. President Obama is very excited about being able to host the NATO summit in Chicago, and I am going to call the mayor, Rahm Emanuel, and tell him he has a new slogan for the city: the city of diversity and determination. I’m sure that he will be pleased to hear that you coined that, Secretary General.
“So I join you in warmly inviting everyone to come to Chicago in May, when it is absolutely beautiful, for what will be another very significant NATO summit.”
In October, I reported that the McCormick Place complex was the likely venue. The buildings, hugging the Lake Michigan Shore and stretching across Lake Shore Drive, were selected because of the ability to secure the location, the proximity to downtown hotels and the enormous space the venue offered.
The gathering of world leaders, expected to draw some 2,500 journalists to Chicago, will be a chance to throw a global spotlight on the city for visitors and provide historic educational opportunities for students and residents.

WASHINGTON, DC – Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today approved a transmission line, access road and substation on public lands that will connect a 150-megawatt solar energy project to the power grid in California. The proposed project, Rice Solar Energy Project, will be built on private land in Riverside County and, when constructed, the facility is expected to power 68,000 homes, create up to 450 jobs, and generate more than $48 million in state and local tax revenue over the first 10 years of operation.

“The Rice Solar Energy Project is yet another example of how we can strengthen local economies by generating good jobs and reliable power as we strive to become energy independent,” Secretary Salazar said. “I am pleased to approve this project as we move toward a sustainable clean energy future.”

Proposed by Rice Solar, LLC, a subsidiary of SolarReserve LLC, the thermal “power tower” facility will be located on 1,410 acres of previously disturbed private land near Blythe. The above-ground 230 kilovolt transmission line that crosses eight miles of land administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will connect with the Western Area Power Administration’s Parker-Blythe #2 transmission line. The project’s innovative molten salt storage system can capture solar energy and deliver power to the grid even after the sun goes down.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., which is buying a $2 billion solar project in California, may have picked the right time to invest in the industry.
The 550-megawatt Topaz project will qualify for a federal incentive because construction began last month, and it will sell electricity under a long-term contract that was completed before prices for solar panels fell 44 percent in the last year. Berkshire’s MidAmerican Energy Holdings utility unit and First Solar Inc. (FSLR), the project developer, announced the deal yesterday.

The idiots on twitter likening PBO to the rightwing are morons. They don’t seem to realize that Plan B isn’t vitamin C to pop at will; it’s a serious drug.

This is why so-called progrssives will never make any head way.
Here we have the Republicans hard at work dismantling our democracy, scheming to take away peoples voting rights and turn most Americans into less than minimum wage slaves.

And what do we have our self-congratulatory loud progressives raging about?? Sensible regulations that keep potent medication out of the hands of young girls not old enough to drink or vote!!!

It is insanity and I can no longer identify with or align with these crazy women. Sorry!!!

I’m definitely pro choice, but I get uncomfortable with some pro-choicers who talk about abortion as if it’s a good thing. I subscribe to the theory that abortion should be rare, legal, and safe. Sometimes, some pro-life folks sound almost like abortion is no big deal, in terms of the moral and physical side of things.

I know the Plan B pill prevents the issue of abortion when used correctly, so it’s something we should definite allow women a lot of access to, but I do think young girls should be made to get a prescription or at least tell an adult.

        December 9, 2025 at 12:51 am

These activist women come out swinging over Plan B protection of minors, but they haven’t said a public word against the GOP actions that are basically outlawing abortion across this country. Do these women know that there are some states where abortion is basically now illegal? They need to get a grip.

      December 8, 2025 at 9:35 pm

Plan B is no big deal to me. Someone made a good point that if you are 13, or even 15 and having unprotected sex, or God forbid have been raped, etc., then I think having to get a prescription first, or having to tell an adult could be a good thing since hopefully that adult or doctor can also help the young girl who is engaging in either risky behavior, or who has been assaulted and needs emotional and legal help too. So, for me, I agree with the decision, and can’t really see the validity in the argument of the people who are upset about the decision.

Now, I do see some cause for concern on the downed drone. Not just for the technology that the Iranians and whomever they affiliate with can steal, but for the simple fact that they intercepted a signal shows that there’s a glitch in the system, and that’s not good.

Washington, D.C. – As part of President Obama’s commitment to helping U.S businesses create jobs and strengthen their competitiveness by speeding up the transfer of federal research and development from the laboratory to the marketplace, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman today announced a new pilot initiative to reduce some of the hurdles that prevent innovative companies from working with the Department of Energy’s national laboratories. The new Agreements for Commercializing Technology (ACT) will help businesses bring job-creating technologies to the market faster by allowing them to work with the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) national laboratories from start to finish to develop and deliver new clean energy technologies and other innovations.

“To compete in the 21st global economy, we need to make it easier for businesses to move great ideas from the drawing board to the marketplace,” said Deputy Secretary Poneman. “The Agreements for Commercializing Technology will cut red tape for businesses and start-ups interested in working with our nation’s crown jewels of innovation, the national laboratories, and strengthen new domestic industries by helping bring innovative, job-creating technologies to the market faster.”

I also remember fuschia looking wonderful on her as well as a black and white and yellow dress she has worn. Actually I love most all of what she has worn as they look great on her. I didn’t like the red and black dress she wore the night PBO won the election but that was because of how the colors were blocked in the design. I also really didn’t care for the Inaugural ball dress so much. I think she is more stunning when the dresses are less frilly and more dramatically cut.

She does look lovely in a variety of styles but I just love the stylish blue dresses she has worn this week. They are my favorites of the outfits I’ve seen her wear as First Lady. She is so elegant. I also prefer to see her in the less frilly styles as she has the tall elegant figure to carry the dramatic cuts.
But we all know the glow comes from within and no amount of fancying up could make her look this radiant if it were not for the beauty and grace on the inside.

Rove attacked Warren about a month ago for being too tight with OWS, now today he unrolled a new ad - tying Warren to being tight with Wall St. HAHAHAHAHA! Rove is at a loss, but the banksters donating to him are likely saying they want their money spent on attacking Warren.

Brown won a special election against a lame candidate. It’s a Presidential election year, where Pres Obama will likely win Mass by 20 points regardless who the GOP nominee is (I used to think Romney would make it closer, but he’s running away from everything he did in Missachusetts which is rubbing folks the wrong way). So Brown would need 20% of the Mass electorate to split their ballot - vote for Pres Obama and than Scott Brown. Add in that Dems should win all Congressional races and Brown would need to split that ballot as well, meaning he needs to find a whole lot of Obama, Dem Rep and than Brown supporters in Massachusetts.

So, is the House GOP not even going to vote on its poison pill laden version of the payroll tax cut?

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement about House Republicans refusal to extend the payroll tax cut before they leave for the holidays.

“House Republicans are willing to leave for the holidays and force a $1,000 payroll tax increase on 160 million middle income Americans, while fighting to the end to protect tax breaks for billionaires and Big Oil.

“For nearly a year, House Republicans have done everything in their power to protect the ultra wealthy and now they won’t lift a finger to protect middle income families on tight budgets from a payroll tax increase. If Republicans fail to protect middle income families from this $1,000 payroll tax increase, families will face a harder time paying for gas, groceries and other expenses and nearly 1 million Americans could lose their jobs.”

Barack Obama Quote O’ The Day

Now, in the midst of this debate, there are some who seem to be suffering from a kind of collective amnesia…. And their philosophy is simple: We are better off when everybody is left to fend for themselves and play by their own rules. I am here to say they are wrong. I’m here in Kansas to reaffirm my deep conviction that we’re greater together than we are on our own. I believe that this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, when everyone does their fair share, when everyone plays by the same rules. These aren’t Democratic values or Republican values. These aren’t 1 percent values or 99 percent values. They’re American values. And we have to reclaim them.

Recall Walker Rally in Downtown La Crosse
    12:30 AM
LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-Dave Obey, former Democratic Congressman for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, spoke to volunteers about the importance of the recall efforts at a rally in La Crosse Thursday evening.

Obey has 42 years of political experience and is known for his straight forward approach.

He touched on the rationale behind the recall. More specifically what he calls Walker’s anti-family, anti-worker agenda including his cuts to education and health care.

“Whether it is walking over the rights of workers or working out ways to make it harder for certain groups of this society to cast a vote, I think he and his supporters have crossed the line, they’ve been extremely thuggish and I think the public is fed up with it,” said Obey.
