OFA: “I need to sit down…” That’s what Beth, a teacher in New Jersey, said when she found out she was one of the grassroots supporters who had won the chance to meet President Obama at a fundraiser at George Clooney’s house.
…. “When the President arrived, we went into George Clooney’s living room. The anticipation of actually meeting him … I didn’t want to mess up! But the President was so calm and down to earth, it put us right at ease.”
….Beth: “It was like meeting a friend. As a teacher, I thanked him for his STEM initiatives. And we talked about his daughters, what sports they’re in, and how he misses having time with them now that they’re older and busy with activities. He said when they run into the house they go blasting by and give him a peck on the cheek. The day before we left the President spoke out in support of gay marriage, and when I saw how he talked about his daughters’ reaction … it’s neat that he cared about how they see the world.”

Tom Junod: …… And so it was with a shock of recognition that I heard last week’s revelations that Mitt Romney was a prep-school bully …. he blew the report off. Mitt Romney said that he didn’t remember the incidents in question - that he didn’t remember orchestrating an attack on a long-haired classmate, that he didn’t remember pinning the boy down and personally taking the scissors to him, that he didn’t remember the boy weeping and begging for mercy. Mitt Romney apologized for “whatever pain” his “prank” may have caused ….. He has to remember, because no one forgets doing something like that, and the ones who do forget….
…… What if Mitt Romney is telling the truth? What if he doesn’t remember because he thought nothing of it? The language of his statement suggests that he’s copping to being a prankster but not a bully ….long ago, I made an innocent kid suffer; one of the great gifts of my life is that I suffered in return. Mitt Romney doesn’t appear to have suffered at all for the suffering he inflicted; but as one lucky enough to have broken the mean bone in my body and to have worn it in a sling, I can tell him that what he’s accused of doing to the boy whose hair and existence was such an affront to him was not a prank; it was a punishment, to both the victim and the perpetrators. The victim almost certainly remembered it to the day he died; the least the perpetrator can do, if only for himself, is to try and do the same.

Morning everyone

MORNING.
Morning CollegeKay ;-) Morning everyone
Nice. Thanks ;)
PBO looks here like he is a member of a no-nonsense security team which is ready to “take out” the bad guys - be warned rightwingers!
Not first, :) good morning. Have a great day.
Oooooooooh, so close Betsy!
Consolation prize:
Awwww. I LOVE this picture! Thanks so much Chips. You have a GREAT day!
Good morning Betsy, same to you :)
Thanks collegekay, you too. It’s 5:31am here in California. It always amazes me that it is already light, and soon the sun will come up. The birds are singing away. Don’t you think Elizabeth Hasselback’s skirt is a bit short?? She certainly has those legs on full display (snark because I con’t have nice legs like those) :D
I mean “don’t not “con’t” My spelling isn’t that good at 5:30 in the morning.
First?
I think the president looks great here. Sigh.
Good morning everyone
controversial sex book? what hell is the answer to that question?
The good wholesome girl that I am, I don’t know either!
I must be a bad girl because I know it’s 50 Shades of Gray, but what the h are they asking that question of POTUS anyway? Trying too hard to get a headline.
I always suspected you were a bad girl Dotster, now you’ve confirmed it. Tsk tsk.
I know the book too Chips or I should say…the books. They’re a trilogy. 50 Shades of Grey. 50 Shades Darker. 50 Shades Freed. And boy oh boy Wowza! Full of BDSM and exploring how a couple’s BDSM relationship evolves into love, commitment, yadi yada yada. Everywhere I turn people are talking about it, reading it, gasping about it, sighing about it, laughing about it, and using it as a frame of reference to make their sex lives a whole lot OH MAH GAWD!!!!!! ;)
/heading to Amazon
 Hey! Wait for me! ….I always like to improve my knowledge base.
Here, I bought you this while I was over there:
Thanks! THANKS, CC! You think THAT will help, eh? I’m not so sure, but am willing to try. ;) ;)
/musing/ That shades of grey explanation by UTAL does sound a bit more advanced than…. maybe CC is right, I should start with the dummies. Hmmm
It didn’t help me VC :-(
So why are you recommending it? Just trying to do some recycling to make room on the bedside table for gray shades?
The truth is, VC, I only discovered later that I had it upside down when I was reading it, which might have been why it didn’t work. So if you hold it up the right way, it might - just might - work.
Alright, will try that suggestion and let you know later on if your theory holds. Thanks for the tip, friend.
ps. Did you add stickies to show which is the right way up? I don’t want to mess up.
It was too late to use stickies VC, I set the book on fire out of frustration. Next time, though, I’ll remember the stickies. :???:
Okay. I will stumble my way through this new copy you’ve bought me, and whenever something looks ‘odd’ will turn the book rightside up or upside down. That should take care of things! I’m so looking forward to this.
Let me know how you get on VC, but PLEASE don’t post any photos, I don’t want this place shut down.
No sweat, I’d send pictures to you first for approval. I don’t want this place shut down either, CC - there’s no one else caring enough to share sex advice!
(ps. Behave yourself!)
When’s the new post? I want to go eat my lunch, but don’t want to leave my post.
Yeah can you imagine the headlines if he knew the answer? lol
“OBAMA READS SEX BOOKS… NOT DOING HIS JOB”
GWG?? Tee hee hee!  :lo: *gasp!* *wheeze!* GWG? Tee hee hee! Sigh of repletion. /wiping mirthful tears from eyes/ You really crack me up, CC! Then again, you perk me up as well. Thanks always! ;)
Have yourself a GREAT day!

Good morning!
Actually, the USA/Today Gallup was not that bad. The Ny Times poll would have you believe this is a Tea Party Nation. Yuck!
I have never seen Scar and Todd so happy as they were this morning, laughing their heads off. They’re trying to put the blame for the shift on SSM, shaving off voters in toss up states. And then Todd was on the Today Show and only emphasized gay marriage as it related to PBO’s events yesterday. I think he’s manipulative and despicable.
this will be the theme for the day
I so agree with you. I press the mute button when Chuck Todd came on the Today Show this morning. I can’t stand him.
He is angry about those ads! Him and ScarBum need therapy!
Yesterday, both Todd and ScarBum was pussed at that ad.
Maybe, this is passive aggressive behavior or Displacement?
You see? Wisconsin OFA is awesome! Follow them, they are very engaged, no matter what Ed Shultz tells you!
That’s cool.

Irish Boy’s Confession
‘Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose girl’.
The priest asks, ‘Is that you, Dicky?’
‘Yes, Father, it is.’
‘And who was the girl you were with?’
‘I can’t tell you, Father, I don’t want to ruin her reputation.’
‘Well, Dicky, I’m sure to find out her name sooner or later, so you may as well tell me now. Was it Mary Walsh?’
‘I cannot say.’ ‘Was it Teresa Brown?’
‘I’ll never tell.’
‘Was it Margaret Doyle?’
‘I’m sorry, but I cannot name her.’
‘Was it Anne O’ Neil?’
‘My lips are sealed.’
‘Was it Catherine O’ Tool, then?’
‘Please, Father, I cannot tell you.’
The priest sighs in frustration. ‘You’re very tight lipped Dicky, and I admire that. But you’ve sinned and have to atone. You cannot be an altar boy now for 4 months. Now you go and behave yourself.’
Dicky walks back to his pew, and his friend Tommy slides over and whispers, ‘What’d you get?’
‘4 Months holiday and five good leads’.

Mitt Romney at Liberty University
An unnecessary speech
—————————————-
So Saturday’s speech was of questionable necessity, and it could come back to haunt Mr Romney. First, as Ross Douthat noted in the New York Times, this year’s social battles—over contraception, over gay marriage—have resulted in a lot of good press for the president, and are probably less salient to moderate voters than the half-hearted recovery. This speech means another round of cultural commentary, rather than a shift to the economy or entitlement reform or any of the issues where Mr Romney might feel more comfortable.
Secondly, this speech, with its vaguely teleological cast—”from the beginning, this nation trusted in God, not man”—sounds like something Rick Santorum would have said. (In fact, Mr Romney gave a polite but passing reference to Mr Santorum in the speech.) Possible etch-a-sketchery aside, the argument in question is a problematic one. That is, Mr Romney, like Mr Santorum before him, is suddenly conflating the “Judeo-Christian tradition” with American culture writ large, which is dubious from a historical perspective as well as, perhaps, a constitutional one. Here’s Mr Romney:

Anyone worried about the NYT poll should remember that these same media outlets told us a few days ago and until now that more than 60% of the people approved of PBO’s announcement in support of SSM. So which poll do they want us to believe?
remember people, we were warned last week that in the days following PBO’s announcement in support of LGBT marriage, pundits and MSM will work overdrive to produce polls showing HOW this announcement has cost PBO votes.
This is exactly what they are doing and I suspect they will continue to do for a few more days/weeks.
So please hang tight because it is going to be a bumpy political ride. at the end its the poll on Nov 6th that matters the most.
My advice: please wake up everyday and work for PBO like he was 20 to 30 points behind so that we can win in a landslide and get the house back as well as a comfortable majority in the Senate
+gazillion.
The Kochs are striking the Defense Budget.
They are trying to kill the Navy’s Bio fuel program, in the new spending budget for defense.
It says, no new spending in alternative fuels.
WTF?
Danger Room’s Noah Shachtman: “If the measure becomes law, it would make it all-but-impossible for the Pentagon to buy the renewable fuels. … And it might very well suffocate the gasping biofuel industry, which was looking to the Pentagon to help it survive.” http://goo.gl/itLRx
Just popped in to say Good Morning. Busy day ahead. I have to go to work and then I am going to look at a new car. Mine has over 200,000 miles on it. It still runs great and my son wants it. Due to PBO my car purchase was made possible.
Peace and Love to all!

Group sues Senate to scrap filibuster
————————————————-
For years, critics of the filibuster have failed to convince senators to change the procedural delaying tactic. Now they’re taking their case to the courts.
The nonpartisan nonprofit Common Cause sued the U.S. Senate on Monday, challenging the constitutionality of the filibuster rules that require routine 60-vote thresholds for bills and nominations that often have majority support. Several House Democrats and three undocumented students who would be aided by the so-called DREAM Act also joined the suit.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, comes at a time of increased partisan gridlock in the Senate and amid complaints the filibuster is being abused by minority Republicans.

(SPOILER ALERT) NAVY: 1; ALIENS: 0 — Morning Defense attended an advance screening last night of the movie “Battleship,” which is about a fleet of Navy ships fending off an alien armada. The real-life U.S. Navy assisted in the making of the film, which is set for release on Friday. Mabus even has a cameo as a ship captain.
In remarks before the screening, the Navy secretary joked that he’s available to star in the sequel. “We are undefeated against aliens,” he told a packed theater. “[The movie] shows what our sailors and Marines can do. No, they’re not going to be facing aliens. But what they do face is the unknown.”

This movie cost over 215 million to make, it better be good!

Good morning TODville everyone have a nice day. :)

Military to get free passes to national parks
By DONOVAN SLACK | 5/15/12 6:03 AM EDT
Members of the military will receive free passes to National Parks and federal recreation lands as part of the Joining Forces initiative spearheaded by Michelle Obama and Jill Biden.
“In recognition of their service, were so pleased to be putting out a welcome mat for our military families at America’s most beautiful and storied sites,” Biden said during a conference call announcing the program.
Starting this weekend, passes will be available for active-duty military and their families at more than 2,000 sites across the nation, officials said, from Yosemite to Yellowstone. National Parks Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said yesterday that he estimates the program could cost between $2 million and $6 million.
The agency is currently facing a budget crunch that could force it to slash 200 positions and cut back visitor-center hours, according to the National Parks Traveler. But Jarvis said the NPS still will be able to foot the bill for the military perk.
“We collect about $150 million in fees nationwide, so we don’t think that this amount of decrease will be significant to the overall operation and service,” Jarvis said.
All this polling gives me whiplash! These polls will contradict each other until Nov. 6. Interestingly, we never get the results of Obama’s team polling. Their polling is the most reliable, but never reported on. I remember from four years ago, about a week before the election, some results of their polling leaked out, but were quickly quashed. That was okay with them. This is what I’m looking for: Look to see where each candidate will have his election night celebration. If the President is again in an outdoor venue in Chicago…we know the coming result, or if he is in the ballroom of a Chicago hotel, we’ll know. If Romney hires Fenway Park, we’ll know the result, but if he’s in the ballroom of a Boston hotel, we’ll know. However, Romney would have to bus in people from other states to fill a stadium in Massachusetts.
Yup. PBO has very smart and very silent internal pollsters. I fully trust this team to beat the shit out of mehmney. It’s both the houses, where the turd blossom’s pach money is going, that is worrying.
It’s because the internal polling methodology is accurate and up to date, and the questions are not leading?
The Morning Plum: Wall Street accountability resurfaces as major issue
By Greg Sargent
——————————————-
In purely political terms, the J.P. Morgan debacle was a gift for Dems. It has given them a new rallying point in the push to draw a sharp ideological contrast with Republicans over government oversight of the private sector and to align the GOP with the sort of Wall Street recklessness that led to the economic meltdown and widespread economic misery.

Which women’s groups were stupid enough to attend that ? What is going on here ?
The League of conservative women!
From TP: A new USA Today/Gallup Poll shows that a large majority of Americans believe the economy is on its way up. Fifty eight percent believe that a year from now, the economy will be “good.” And this translates to good news for President Obama — 56 percent believe the President will win in November, while only 36 percent believe Romney will beat out Obama.
From the “you can’t make this shit up” files:
The Liberty Committee, a libertarian organization that has provided financial support for Ron Paul’s presidential bids, is now alleging that Paul defrauded the group out of $20,000 by doubling billing dozens of plane tickets using taxpayer money.
stupid is what stupid does. These fut nuckers never learn.
They’re all such sheeple. I got into an argument with a Paul supporter the day before the man dropped out. He swore up and down that Paul was going to win this thing:) Went on and on about the Fed, NDAA, the wars…yada yada, yada….blah, blah, blah. Flipping fools. Every. Last One. They must all be choking down those anti depressants now…
This is some serious old school grifitng. He’s been in Congress over 20 years has run for President 3 times and supporters are hoping he does so again in 2016. Paul has no chance and he knows it but hey it is a great way to take time off from your job and make some good money.
Paul has got it down to a science. Spout anti-government gobbledygook and all the while grab every single government perk that he can.
What amazes me is the rubes never catch on.
Saw this on the Twitter :-)
It’s Brooks, so take that for what it is. The thing that is really interested about this op-ed are the comments:
Two of the nation’s smartest analysts have just come out with reports on how the presidential election looks six months out. Bill Galston of the Brookings Institution argues that at this point President Obama has a modest advantage over Mitt Romney. The pollster Peter D. Hart says that “this election is no better than a 50-50 proposition for the president.”
But when I look at the data, a slightly different question comes to mind: Why is Obama even close? If you look at the fundamentals, the president should be getting crushed right now.

DesertFlower, thanks for the great link. Loved this “I have said before, I come from a generation that doesn’t really talk much about gay people. I remember thinking that a perfectly lovely word had been ruined. Today, however I say, “Gay marriage?” Why not? Everyone should be allowed to be with the one they love. I honestly don’t understand what all the hoopla is about. If you don’t agree with gay marriage then don’t marry a man who dresses like Rick Santorum or has hair like Mitt Romney. If you don’t like gay people simply ignore them. They probably don’t like you either. If an octogenarian from Georgia can see that, why can’t privileged politicians?”
Susan, you should go back and read through the archives. These old women hit the nail on the head. Everytime!
These old broads are great!

The one gift that President Obama may have given this nation that may be beyond measure was the activation of the political instincts of an entire generation of kids who might merely have grown into unintentionally ironic hipsters, poised merely to comment and not commence.

What a powerful paragraph by Mr. Pierce:
He is so correct — it is a gift to be forced to break one’s mean bone. Willard seems to have gotten through life without this gift — he’s been given everything and think he deserves that and more.
Good morning PJ! That really was a powerful piece, wasn’t it? The contrast between how Pierce (SEE BELOW - it wasn’t Pierce) examined his conscience and acknowledged his hateful behavior as a young guy, and Romney’s glib dismissal of what he did was just breathtaking.
“He’s been given everything and think he deserves that and more.”

Correction! Japa spotted that the article wasn’t written by Pierce, it was by a guest writer on his blog, Tom Junod. Thanks Japa.
Yes, ma’am. Thanks for bringing it (and so many other nuggets) here. Mwah!
Just a quick note. That piece was not wwritten by Pierce but by a guest writer. And I have never known Pierce to do a guest writer before.
Oh sorry Japa, I don’t know how I missed that, thanks so much for pointing it out, I fixed the post.
I didn’t notice that. Thanks. Charlie certainly believes everything in that post, however, as he made clear on Stephanie Miller this morning.

“According to Edelman’s study, Utah ranked as number one on the list of the most prolific viewers of pornography, along with Alaska, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arkansas, North Dakota, Louisiana, Florida and West Virginia. Hawaii is on the top ten list as well, the only blue state included. Hawaii placed fourth, after Utah, Alaska and Mississippi. Nine of the top ten porn viewing states in America are conservative states. The bible belt. Tea party governors, fundamentalist Christians and a deep hatred for all things sexual. Well, almost.
ERIN! That study is four years old! Certainly with the advent of the tea party and the rebirth of fundamentalist Christianity, those statistics are much different now! You’re correct. Men’s Health Magazine just released the results of their own study, and named the smuttiest cities in America. Number one is Orlando, Florida. The other nine cities are, in order, Las Vegas, NV (Duh), Wilmington, DE (Delaware? Seriously?), Raleigh, NC (Gay marriage BAD! Porn GOOD!), Charlotte, NC (hee hee), Minneapolis, MN (It gets really cold there?), Atlanta, GA (Another red state), Tampa, FL (Florida and the Carolinas make it twice!), Anchorage, AK (Sarah Palin must be really miffed about that one) and Austin, TX (Rick Perry may have been on to something when he invested in Movie Gallery). So many red states, so little broadband.”

WASHINGTON — A private organization established to run a third-party candidate in this year’s presidential elections has thrown in the towel, saying no one mustered sufficient support for such an effort.
Kahlil Byrd, chief executive officer of Americans Elect, said in a statement that under the rules his group approved for an online primary, the process was ending Tuesday.

JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon will face calls to step down from his chairmanship during the company’s shareholder meeting in Tampa today. Following the bank’s big loss, which totaled $2 billion over six weeks, California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) will demand that the top roles at the company be split up. They argue that having Dimon as both CEO and chairman leads to less oversight and fewer protections from big losses.
What kills me is when Tepublicans get on tv and say, nothing to see here, move along.
Jedi mind Tricks!
PHOENIX, May 14 (Reuters) - Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on Monday vetoed a bill demanding the U.S. government turn over millions of acres of its property to the state, dealing a surprise blow to the “sagebrush revolt” against federal control over vast tracts of land in the West.
The much-publicized measure, which cleared the Republican-dominated Arizona legislature last month, called for federal agencies to relinquish title to roughly 48,000 square miles (124,000 square km) of land they hold in the Grand Canyon state by 2015.
Brewer, a Republican and staunch conservative who had been widely expected to support the measure, said in a statement that the legislation failed to “identify an enforceable cause of action to force federal lands to be transferred to the state.”
“I am also concerned about the lack of certainty this legislation could create for individuals holding existing leases on federal lands. Given the difficult economic times, I do not believe this is the time to add to that uncertainty,” she said.

This is a pleasant surprise…
She also forgot about Emminent Domain!
She probably made a mistake. This woman is a toxic mess. She has done so much harm to this state and its citizens that I wouldn’t be patting her on the back for much of anything. 2014 can’t come soon enough for me. Don’t forget, just last week, the “small govt” gov told women that they now need to ask their employers permission for REAL birth control! I fucking hate this woman.
Amen, sister!

This from First Read:
*** Things that make you go, hmmmm: Speaking of that New York Times/CBS poll, it shows Romney at 46% and Obama at 43%. But get this: It also has the president’s approval rating at 50%. (How is Obama’s job approval at 50%, but his head-to-head number is 43%?) And given that this poll was a “call-back survey” — with the respondents first interviewed back in April — it feels like we need more poll data to make sense of all the events of the past two weeks. The gay marriage announcement. Obama’s campaign kickoff. The Osama bin Laden anniversary. The April jobs report. We respect the work the folks at the NYT/CBS do, but there are a lot of contradictions in the results, which simply means we should wait for more data. And guess what: Our NBC/WSJ poll is going into the field in the next 10 days. When you’re polling for a news organization, you usually want to be the first. But given all the news from the past two weeks, it’s not a bad thing to have the public have enough time to digest everything that has happened. By the way, we can tell that both Team Obama and Team Romney are nervous how the last couple of weeks have played, and the campaigns weren’t in the field last week.
OMG. If this is true, then the SC is as corrupt as we thought. OMG.
http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/05/15/dirty-laundry-is-still-dirty-even-if-no-one-sees-it/
I think the NYT’s CBS poll is not reliable #1 it only polled 615 people, and only 562 people registered to vote. That’s not a lot of people nationwide for an accurate status of where the country is on important matters and issues. A state poll yes but not nationally.
Also I notice Chuck Todd & Jackass Joe didn’t state that President Obama have inched up in that poll with white men, where he have been down. So if they want to be gleeful of Romney’s 3 pt lead, which is really even with POTUS then they have to look at all the internals of the poll. Also in the poll no one still don’t like Romney. Notice that wasn’t quoted either.
I don’t trust any of them as far as I can throw a bear by the ass. They make me sick trying to make news from no news.

DF, it’s always easier to get another job if you have one. It makes the resume seem up to date. So I think this is a big deal.
VIRGINIA IS NOT FOR LOVERS! Get rid of this yahoo!!
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/05/15/484027/virginia-says-no-gay-judges/
Tracy Thorne-Begland served his country for 20 years in the Navy. After his discharge, he then rose to become one of the top prosecutors in the city of Richmond, Virginia. He was sponsored for a low-level trial judgeship by a bipartisan mix of state lawmakers, and seemed a shoo-in for the job. And then this happened:
Delegate Bob Marshall said he will seek to remove the name of Richmond prosecutor Tracy Thorne-Begland from a list of proposed District Court judicial appointments.
“I don’t even think it’s proper to put his name forward because of his behavior,” said Marshall, who called Thorne-Begland “a homosexual activist,” in a press release.
Thorne-Begland has been nominated to serve as a judge for Richmond’s General District Court, but, Marshall challenges the nomination on the grounds of the prosecutor’s sexual orientation.
Bob Marshall needs to find a new job!
The people of Virginia have a chance to do this next year. The future of state depends on their getting the state elections right this time.

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign said on Tuesday that JPMorgan Chase & Co’s huge trading losses were an unfortunate part of a free market economy.
Privatize the gains/socialize the losses…Mitt’s way!
