President Obama sits for breakfast at Riley’s Cafe with U.S. military veterans in Cedar Rapids, August 15

Cool waiting on Michelle to hit the stage.
I just finished listening to this fun interview… it was great- he’s so personable, down to earth and HUMAN in all respects.. I’m prouder every single day to be on his side.
I’m so chuffed to bits that Jen Psaki is back on the “O Team” I know she was part of the communications team in the white house with Dan Pfeiffer and she left the white house for a little break….went on political shows and was a wonderful champion and advocate for Pres. Obama and now she’s once again part of the campaign press team. Awesome.
Thanks for introducing her here. xox
I’m just tickled that PBO is at a restaurant I’ve actually been to as well! One of those funky, non-chain kind of places. Probably be even more popular after this!
I like the looks of it—-my fave kind of place.
Candidate leading Rep. Stearns in primary wants to abolish Energy Department
By Ben Geman
Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) hasn’t been gentle on the Energy Department when leading the House GOP probe of Solyndra — he has even called for the firing of Energy Secretary Steven Chu.
But Ted Yoho, the political novice who has apparently upset Stearns in Tuesday’s close GOP primary, is equally tough on DOE. in fact, he wants it to vanish entirely.
-//
Oh Boy.! Can’t wait. No DOE? What a novel idea???
Missed it! Oh well, you can’t have everything. Keep you run going, PFI! ;)
Now see, this is crap! Halperin now thinks, that we are being outspent in ads, and it has Obama Team worried. That is why Joe Biden said what he said.
Just yesterday, Halperin was saying, their is no way that Robney can pivot from the Ryan plan while giving tax breaks to the rich.
My head is spinning. His analysis is wishy washy, trying to please both sides arguments?
Here is the “huge” Willard contingent in Dubuque. One woman is actually holding a sign saying “Obama is scary”. BOO!!!!! She should be holding a sign saying “I am unbelievably ignorant and bloated with hate”
http://lockerz.com/s/234878715
I guess they blocked it! Server error!
xtine. You didn’t miss much. A bunch of mean-spirited cranky looking people holding signs. There was one little girl with glasses.
 Love that description!!!
Only posted because I couldn’t believe that someone—-an actual adult person—- is holding an “Obama is scary” sign.
 thanks izonprize!
Oh Lawd! Thanks isonprize! :)
And the Romney bus is there as well - I wish someone would drive it into the Mississippi River. I’m following some live tweet coverage on KWWL (http://www.kwwl.com/Global/category.asp?c=195327).
I feel for the little girl with glasses. Makes me think of comedian Denis Leary’s joke.
Racism isn’t born, folks, it’s taught. I have a two-year-old son. You know what he hates? Naps! End of list.

Don’t know how you do it but so glad that you do. Wonderful radio message to Theo and the other children for a wonderful school year. Thanks.
I am waiting for this big ad buy from Priorities USA or OFA. Still waiting…
Will let you know if anything comes in, or is everything now going to local OFA offices?
I think they should split that money.
Just saying.
OMG - Chuck Toad actually acuses our idiot Iowa governor of lying about the welfare waivers: http://thinkprogress.org/
I don’t know which person I dislike more, but I never thought ole Chuck would follow through like this. Probably wouldn’t if it was Mitt.
Saw this comment over at Dkos:
“I got a call late last night from our local Obama HQ. They want me to speak on Medicare and SS today for our local TV station. Wonder if this is country wide…..I’m in Ohio….”
So the campaign is apparently doing grassroots outreach to have people talk about Medicare.
They just released a web ad directly rebutting Romney’s false Medicare ad and specifically calls Mitt out for lying about the President’s plan to shore up Medicare.
In Iowa today the President will “lay out the choice between his plan and the Romney-Ryan plan to end Medicare as we know it, leaving new retirees with nothing but a voucher in place of the guaranteed benefits they rely on today.”
A calm, focused roll out on multiple fronts.
Meanwhile, Willard appears to be losing his Mitt on an epic scale and Paul Ryan is in the middle of a marathon, post-Olympics workout by running from his budget.
Thank you for this info FiredUpInCa. Can’t wait to hear PBO debunk the lies. Just posted my concerns
about this at the end of the last thread. I have been very anxious and saying a prayer that the Dems would
straighten this mess out. Prayers answered.
Hiya Hope44, I haven’t said helloooooo in a long time, how are you doing?
Helloooo Chips. Thanks for asking. I am doing well, working in whatever ways I can to Get PBO re- elected.
I had just left you a thank you on the bottom of the last thread for all you do for us. My timing was a little off though
cause the thread changed as I posted. :) Anyway, I’ll say it again . Thank you so much for all you do. It’s greatly
appreciated. Most important though, it keeps me sane!! Luv Ya.
Thank YOU so much Hope44 and for all your wonderful work!!!
Thanks firedup.Good to hear that the team has got it under control.

Nice interview. So down to earth. So ‘in touch’. :)

LOL! Where it stops, nobody knows…
I’m not sure I like that 2nd video. I don’t know if it was a sincere question or just another “joe the plumber” in the making. It’s something about the laughter of the guy holding the camera.
Now if that was one of our fellow TOD’ers, then I’ll take back my comments above.
STill I will say that was some sound advice from POTUS.
Hi Lamh, yeah, we were all wondering about the motives of the two guys, but whatever they were, the answer was superb …. so if they hoped to embarrass PBO they failed kind of miserably!
POTUS answer was pitch-perfect. And it was off the cuff, short and succinct from along the ropeline.
If that dude was serious, I hope he takes that advice and he could show the video to station and they may be interested enough to have a segment on it and if dude was enterprising sort of fellow, he could parlay that to an internship or PA job.
But I honestly think he was trying to trip up POTUS an did get the answer he thought
lamh35, Naaa, I think that laughter was the happy, nervous kind of laughter. I’m telling you, meeting PBO in person makes you do some silly stuff. The laughing guy also said “that was awesome.”
I agree, isonprize. I think both were nervous and…let’s face it, a little goofy that comes from being young. I also think the guy asking the question was stunned that he got a specific, sound answer about finding a job from THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
I’m with you. It seemed like they were genuinely pleased as punch that the President of the United States took the time to give them job search advice.
I don’t agree isonprize. I’ve seen people who’ve met POTUS like that lady from Iowa yesterday who just kept giggling and said POTUS smelled nice that Chips posted the video for yesterday.
Something just doesn’t sit right with me. But that’s just me. Like I told Chips, POTUS answer was on point and great advice whatever the young man’s motive, he got some sound advice from POTUS he should try to use.
POTUS answer was on point and great advice whatever the young man’s motive, he got some sound advice from POTUS he should try to use.
And isn’t that just the best?!? Whether they were cool or trying to be slick, they still got a great answer. PBO is the best. And that’s what pisses off Re-thugs. WE MUST RE-ELECT THIS MAN!!!
I don’t think it matters if it was a republican plant. The whole exchange was actually quite remarkable. One, the president had an excellent response. Two, he did it, while not missing a beat shaking hands. And three, there were no standard talking points in this exchange, it was real and honest. Truly remarkable. This should go viral or at least get tweeted!
please read my reply to Chips. I said that while I’m skeptical the reasoning for asking the question, I agree that POTUS answer was pitch-perfect.
Pennsylvania has just been handed another blow as the disgusting voter ID is upheld by Commonwealth Court Justice Robert Preston. The ACLU is appealing it to the PA Supreme Court, but the decision will come too late to make a difference. I feel sick about this and can’t begin to estimate the numbers of people who will be disenfranchised on November 6, particularly in the PA area. Please tell everyone in PA who has a problem with IDs to register and then vote absentee and please do everything you can to make people mad about this. Maybe if people get angry enough about having their right to vote taken away from them, they will redouble their efforts to register and not let anything stop them on election day. This is really a bummer.
Jackie. The ACLU is taking it to the PA Supreme Court.
HARRISBURG, PA - Today Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson rejected a request to issue a preliminary injunction that would stop enforcement of the state’s voter ID law. A copy of his decision is available here. The ACLU of Pennsylvania, the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia, the Advancement Project, and the law firm of Arnold & Porter will be appealing to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Unless these judges are Liberal…
The lower Court almost always sides with their Party.
{{JG}} Sorry to hear that JG. Puts more pressure on you and your team as you educate at your upcoming ‘fair’, yet I feel sure the will is there. GOP cannot win on Nov. 6th!
GM Jackie!
This is just awful but the PA Supreme Court is going to take it up and I’m hopeful it will put a stop to this.
According to this article the Supreme Court is split 3-3 due to some state scandal. If that is the vote then the decision will be upheld unfortunately. I went out to canvas and register a couple of weeks ago in Philly. Thankfully everyone that we spoke to was fully aware of the law and pretty pissed off about it. I plan on going out there again because clearly we won’t be getting any help for the Court. We must help ourselves.
http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2012/08/15/voter_id_law_survives_in_pennsylvania.html
jackiegrumbacher, I am very disappointed to hear that news. In my phone-banking sessions we have been making calls
to PA since I am in NJ. Ok, so now I’ll just have to double or triple my efforts in phone-banking to PA. We get knocked
down but we get up again to fight another day. We absolutely cannot let them defeat us. HOPE! Let’s keep it alive. You have
been such a hard worker for the campaign. I am so impressed when I read your posts and see all that you do. Keep the Faith jg.
Medicaid Cuts Ryan Doesn’t Tout Would Cut Aid to Seniors
By Brian Faler
————————-
Paul Ryan’s plan to overhaul Medicare wouldn’t affect today’s seniors. His Medicaid proposal would.
While the Republican vice-presidential candidate is careful to avoid touching Medicare benefits for anyone at or near retirement, his budget would impose immediate cuts to Medicaid, the health-care program for the poor that funds nursing-home care and other benefits for 6 million U.S. seniors.
“It’s very easy to forget about these people,” said Howard Gleckman, a resident fellow at the Urban Institute, a Washington-based policy research group. “It’s a big, big cut.”
The proposed Medicaid changes are often overlooked amid the debate over Ryan’s Medicare plan, which has taken center stage in the presidential contest since the Wisconsin congressman was chosen as Mitt Romney’s running mate on Aug. 11. It’s politically important because those 65 and older are a crucial voting bloc.

Used Car Salesman?
And what was Bob Schieffer’s response? Let me guess. He just sat there and nodded his head and went on to the next question. A junior reporter that had done a little bit of homework would have know to ask Mitt Romney but you have said you want to repeal Dodd-Frank. Dodd-Frank is all about regulating Wall Street after the financial meltdown of 2008. Please explain……
Maybe he does not know what Congress does.?

Boehner holds call to calm House GOP

What was Boehner’s advice? “Cheers, have another shot & just say no!”
Thanks, lamh 35.
I posted the article to my FB page with the question, “If the republicans are so sure that the Romney/Ryan Plan is good for the nation, why did Boehner have to call and “calm” them down? Since I’m in GA, a lot of my FB friends are faux conservatives, and I’ve been trying to shake them out of the stupor of lies that Fox News and the republicans have trapped them in for years.

Love the Star 105.5 radio interview. Wish everyone could hear it. President Obama is always excellent at these, so natural and at ease. Likability to the max.

Bobfr, is it Not true that We Americans Love COUPONS? Voucher? Not so much. But a majority of Us want COUPONS, clip them and use them whenever possible. I think that the Team Obama should stay with the VOUCHER theme. I am sure that they did a marketing polling on the words already.

Really Meta, I’m making a slight detour…. Mitt can bury his tax returns in an underground vault at this time IMO. Notice the kids’ chant at the end.

Yet again, his speech was listed on CNN’s live streaming schedule …. but nothing so far. If Ryan scratched his arse CNN would have live coverage
Thank you, I’ll pass.
Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan has been one of the harshest critics of President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus plan. But months after Congress approved the nearly $800 billion package, the Wisconsin lawmaker was trying to steer money under the program to companies in his home state.
Rep. Ryan wrote letters in 2009 to Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis seeking stimulus grant money for two Wisconsin energy conservation companies. One of them, the nonprofit Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corp., later received $20.3 million from the Energy Department to help homes and businesses improve energy efficiency, according to federal records.
In a letter to Chu in December 2009, Ryan said the stimulus money would help his state create thousands of new jobs, save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. That contrasted with his public statements denigrating the stimulus program as a “wasteful spending spree.” It also conflicts with his larger federal budget proposal, which would slash Energy Department programs aimed at creating green jobs.

Is that the longest link in the history of links? :???:
Whether it’s being a Social Security recipient as a kid or being paid by taxpayers for 13 years, Paul Ryan is such an expert on government spending because he’s a lifelong recipient of it.
“Several major economic development projects financed by federal money are underway in Ryan’s home town. There’s the Janesville Innovation Center, which will “provide entrepreneurs with commercial space in which to launch their ideas.” This is being funded by a $1.2 million stimulus grant, Lizza notes.
That’s not all. As Lizza notes, the federal government is contributing more than $10 million to a new facility in Janesville that will produce a medical tracer that used to be made outside the United States. The new plant could employ some 150 people.
John Beckford, the head of a local economic development group and a Ryan supporter, explained to Lizza how Janesville is reinventing itself after a GM plant closed in the town. The town — which is near a ring of major cities such as Milwaukee, Chicago, St. Louis, Des Moines, and Minneapolis — is remaking itself as a “redistribution hub for major companies,” Lizza reported.”

I like this suggestion made on Twitter - it wouldn’t surprise me to find Ryan benefited repeatedly from the federal pot.

Paul Ryan Reading Guide: The Best Reporting on the VP Candidate
By ProPublica

Want help going beyond the horse race? We’re gathering the best stories out there on Congressman Paul Ryan, his positions, and his background. Have other stories to share? Add them in comments.
Background
Fussbudget, The New Yorker, August 2012
This sweeping profile is a great introduction to Paul Ryan and his politics. Starting in his hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin, it lays out the evolution of Ryan’s economic beliefs, and his rise through the G.O.P – from his early affinity to Ayn Rand to failed attempts at privatizing Social Security, to his Path to Prosperity budget plan, which would make radical changes in Medicaid and other social programs. The article also looks at the ways that federal-funded projects have helped Ryan’s hometown-and notes that Ryan’s plan “would drastically reduce the parts of the budget” that are funding exactly these kinds of projects.

Just listened to the radio interview and boy does POTUS sound “angry and desperate”…pufft! Mittens is an idiot.
I watched the Romney CBS Gayle King interview. He DOES seem unhinged! He spills out the most incredible gibberish and looks shifty, nervous and like he’s obviously lying throughout the interview. Then they let up on him about 2/3rds through - aware that he’s made himself look ridiculous so they don’t push anymore. I think it was a good move - Gayle is well known as a personal fiend of the Obama’s so she had to go carefully. I think she did a good job - plenty of time over the next couple of weeks to keep at him.
Could someone from TOD tweet or email one of the Obama campaign communications people to remind them that Romney was pushing vouchers for the military for health care. The story was at Talking Points Memo some time ago. This could be important since Romney is trying to run away from Ryan’s plan when he has the same and HAS TALKED about it.
