    Just checking in.

Hello family peeps. A short update on wifey.

They drew her blood at around 8 a.m. to see if the antibiotics are working. Still waiting to hear back on that. Other than that, she’s spent the morning sleeping. I’m having breakfast and taking a shower and then off to the hospital.

It’s great to read all the goodies here. They keep my spirits up. Especially Jovie’s reports from canvassing; FL is going to go blue!

And Jesus, Wayne Rooney is an Obot?! Does this mean I have to stop making fun of the hedgehog on his head? :-(

Love to see folks light up when I give them campaign gear… Everyone today, accepting stickers reported already have voted for Obama~Biden. Some are worried, but keeping the faith! Let them hand out stickers later on, they will feel fired up and it will make a difference!

    Ok, one more update.

Wife just called. She has an e. coli infection. WTF?! She eats the same stuff I do! So, she’s there for at least another night while arrangements are made for home health, since she’ll have to have a pick line inserted in her arm and receive IV antibiotics for the next two weeks. She is not a happy camper. But they said she’d be able to go to work.

    More later.

      October 27, 2025 at 2:41 pm

I’m so sorry LL but so glad she got to the hospital when she did. There is some e.coli in all of our intestinal systems. The fact that hers turned into an infection when you are eating the same things may be just a difference in how each of your immune systems are dealing with it at any point in time. While her road ahead is not pleasant for the next couple of weeks it could have been so much worse if it had gone unchecked. Take care of yourself as well!

    • 48 lamh35
      October 27, 2025 at 5:14 pm

LL, I’m a Medical Technologist specializing in Microbiology. You may have already said this, but is the E coil infection in stool, urine, or blood? it makes a difference when it comes to treatment.

for the most part, Ecoli is considered to be normal enteric flora in stool, unless its a more virulent strain called E. coli O157:H7, in that case it’s still treatable, but the antibiotics used are not the usual cascade of take home oral meds. Alot of times in those cases the drug need to be administered intravenously (IV).

      E. coli isn’t usually considered normal urogenital flora, so an increase of E. coli from urine culture is considered an urinary infection, but when we eat something that doesn’t agree with us, we can also shed Enteric organisms into urine.

The good thing is unless the bug has special resistance, treatment of infection is fairly simple as administering antibiotic strong enough to kill infectious organism but keep normal flora intact.

In the case of sepsis (I.e. bacteria in the blood) it’s a little different. because obviously, blood should be sterile (urine also, but I like blood, urine does have normal flora that can be found in culture). Blood culture can have skincontamination, but Gram negative rods (like E. coli) are always considered an infection and are treated more seriously. the antibiotics are rarely oral and for the most part the hospital will keep the patient in the hospital while they administer IV drugs and clear out the blood pathogen. as long as the bug isn’t an unusually resistant strain, it means longer stays in hospital or under nurse care than. usual.

TMI, I know, but I love my field and can talk about it all day…Sorry.

good thought coming ur way for. ur wife.

      • 49 lamh35

        October 27, 2025 at 5:43 pm

It is a blood infection. She’s going to be sent home with a pick line and a home health nurse will be administering IV antibiotics for 2 weeks. The wife is not a happy camper, but it’s better than being stuck in a hospital for 2 weeks. Fortunately she’s a nurse, so she knows what’s in store.

    WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!! http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/28/health/us-to-sponsor-health-insurance-plans-nationwide.html?_r=0

The Obama administration will soon take on a new role as the sponsor of at least two nationwide health insurance plans to be operated under contract with the federal government and offered to consumers in every state.
    Related

Times Topics: Health Insurance and Managed Care | Health Care Reform
These multistate plans were included in President Obama’s health care law as a substitute for a pure government-run health insurance program — the public option sought by many liberal Democrats and reviled by Republicans. Supporters of the national plans say they will increase competition in state health insurance markets, many of which are dominated by a handful of companies.

The national plans will compete directly with other private insurers and may have some significant advantages, including a federal seal of approval. Premiums and benefits for the multistate insurance plans will be negotiated by the United States Office of Personnel Management, the agency that arranges health benefits for federal employees.

Walton J. Francis, the author of a consumer guide to health plans for federal employees, said the personnel agency had been “extraordinarily successful” in managing that program, which has more than 200 health plans, including about 20 offered nationwide. The personnel agency has earned high marks for its ability to secure good terms for federal workers through negotiation rather than heavy-handed regulation of insurers.

John J. O’Brien, the director of health care and insurance at the agency, said the new plans would be offered to individuals and small employers through the insurance exchanges being set up in every state under the 2010 health care law.

This new daily Los diary on early voting in NC is slightly wrong.
It says we are just barely doing better than 08.
Not true. In 08, we had 22% AA vote, now it’s 29%!
And he has us up 52-47 in early voting there,
And about 135k votes more, judging by his calculations.
I think it’s north of 150k, but we still have more early vote to go.

Question for y’all and I apologize if it is a stupid question, but I can’t figure out the answer so I am going to ask. (I always told my students that no question was stupid/dumb if the answer is truly unknown.) The tweet about 1/3 of the votes in Iowa being cast and 67% are for PO-how exactly is it KNOWN that 67% are for PO?

I believe that it’s because they’ve been counted already:) That’s why we HAVE early voting….so those votes can be banked and counted and the only ones left to tally, are the votes from that day.

Thanks, df. I thought that must be the case, but then I questioned myself.

That doesn’t sound right to me. I think that figure comes from polling people who claim they’ve voted. I don’t think anyone is allowed to release actual voting tallies until after the polls close on 11/6.

Just want to say a big ‘Thank You’ to all who are fighting the good fight. Working tirelessly for/with PBO. I believe PBO will win big and his second term will be even more awesome than his first! I sooooo wish I could go to Chicago on Nov 6th to be amongst the crowd wherever PBO will have his gathering (Grant Park on election night 4 years ago???) but instead I signed up for an orientation for volunteers for a christmas toy drive with one of the children’s organization here, and it so happened that it fell on Nov 6th (arrrrgggghhh). Thank god it should be over at 8pm.
Right after that I might head over to my friend’s and we’ll both be glued to the tv, yell at the gop and idiot pundits on tv, and squeal with delight when they announce PBO as winner … I can hardly wait (not to mention catch up on my sleep) … LOL… :)
But in all sincerity … ‘Thank you all’ for the wonderful work.

Hey, a guy in Iowa just called me “kiddo”!
    “Already voted.”
    “For President Obama?”
    “You bet, kiddo!”

I liked it! I’m a kiddo again! I feel pretty, oh so pretty….:)
    Back for some more.

Though President Obama isn’t due in Florida until Sunday night for a Monday rally — he’s leaving Washington early to avoid the brunt of Hurricane Sandy — several high profile celebrities and political figures are spending the weekend firing up volunteers and encouraging Obama supporters to take advantage of early voting, as local news reports and photos show long lines at polling places across the state.

Actress Eva Longoria, a national campaign co-chair, is spending the weekend visiting campaign offices throughout South Florida as volunteers kick off early voting canvassing. Hill Harper, the “CSI: NY” actor and law school friend of Obama’s, spent Saturday at early vote and canvassing kickoffs across Miami.

“Fresh Prince of Bel Air” star Tatyana Ali is hosting events including a Sunday barbeque in Daytona Beach, while model and “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi will be at a Sunday brunch for women in Tampa. Also on hand this weekend: actor Laurence Fishburne, actresses Lynn Whitfield and Adrienne Bailon, and former BET host AJ Calloway.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk — in his personal, not official, capacity — is attending several events including a meeting for faith-based stakeholders and ministers. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, former Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) and Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.) are also campaigning for Obama in Florida this weekend. Two Floridians, DNC chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, spent part of Saturday at a DNC bus tour stop in Tampa.

    Miami Herald …

“In the end, Mr. Obama’s policies across the board — the environment, social policy, taxes and immigration — offer a more generous vision for America. The issues he has fought for, coupled with the lingering doubts about Mr. Romney’s persona and his true intentions, make this a clear choice. In the race for president, The Miami Herald recommends BARACK OBAMA.”

Just finished canvassing (11-4) and my feet and legs really hurt! It was great though. Started off rough but got much better. I was tempted to not finish my area I was so tired, but I thought about how tired our President must be and how Every conversation can make a difference. So I marched on and yep, next door was an undecided. We talked for a very long time and I eventually said “one last thing-Ryan has no foreign policy experience and he is not fit to be CIC!” He said, “Uhm, yeah you’re right. I hadn’t thought of that!” The most surprising thing is that he is really frustrated over jobs going to china because he had lost his to china a couple of years ago. AND, he is back in school getting a Bachelors in business and is mad about the cost of the loans!” I couldn’t believe it! I told him to go look up Bain, Freeport, IL and go to barackobama.com to see how Obama was his guy and Ronmey was NOT! I told him don’t trust me, read for yourself. He responded, don’t sell yourself short- I trust you, a working class person, more than the folks on TV. I was definetly surprised. Anyway, I gave him an Obama Biden pin for him to wear in case he decided on them once he looked up the facts.
Long story I know, but it just amazed me. Also, one lady said “she just doesnt vote!”. As we talked she said she supported Obama if she would vote!!! UNBELIEVABLE! When we left I had convinced her to vote. I told her the only way things will change is if she gets involved and has a voice. When we finished she was excited about voting….anyway, TOD family, this is why we are going to win! Cause there were thousands of me on the phone and in neighborhoods TODAY having the same conversations!! Last thing, as I was going to one home, the lady was leaving to go phone bank for Obama!
