Hello Dudette. At 73, changing party is harder to do.
As a Roman Catholic, it is harder to change form my faith and I am NOT 50 yet…..let alone for Gen Powell. It is like religion to many…..party affiliation. Besides, change comes from within. Powell would have better chance changing those feeling a tad uncomfortable to speak up that he would, should he self-depart for the GOP.
I hear you about the difficulty of changing party, but to say “Powell would have better chance changing those feeling a tad uncomfortable to speak up…” — I SINCERELY doubt that. Name some, even one, high profile elected GOPer that’s been moved to speak up to the extreme elements so far, who hasn’t already left the party. Maybe I’ve missed someone somewhere.
Even Christie doesn’t blast them for the racist crap. He’s only been vocal about the lack of support for Hurricane Sandy victims because it hit home for him. I don’t mind Powell switching Dudette. I am only speculating why he has not and might not.
There are times when I want to leave the Democratic Party, which I have always been a member of, but I have not left yet. Most likely I won’t leave, my family is Democrat and have always been.
There are some things that some Dems have done/do/don’t do (and even the President) that angers me off too, but the party’s underlying stance on most things match mine. A self-inflicted wound on economy, could tip us into recession, increase deficit. Absurd to not act. cont……
I am really angry with Democratic members of Congress who are trying to put the burden raising the debt ceiling on the President. The U.S. Constitution is very clear: Congress is responsible for paying U.S. debts. It’s also erroneous to think that the President has the authority under the Fourteenth Amendment to defy Congress and raise the debt ceiling. Section 5, of the 14th Amendment plainly states:
“The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this Article.”
President Obama was absolutely right. It’s the responsibility of Congress to raise the debt ceiling, unless of course they authorize the President, “by appropriate legislation” to assume that responsibility. The media should be asking members of Congress and not the President why they are intent on wrecking the economy and hurting millions of Americans by refusing to raise the debt ceiling; something other Congresses have routinely done under previous presidents.
Listing people who would be harmed if ceiling wasn’t lifted - a self-inflicted wound on the economy which might ironically increase our deficit. It’s absurd. ‘A financial disaster not only for us but for the worldwide economy.’ -Boehner from a couple of years ago
Opening statement a vigorous restatement of TRUTH—-all the measures we have taken so far have succeded inhuge deficit reduction. Further debt reduction will not be accomplished by spending cuts. This is what the People of USA want and what they voted for.
Period.
Goes on to say agan that we muct pay our bills. Lays full blame on GOP for any crash that comes
Not raising the debt ceiling will be irresponsible, obsurb.
There will be no ransom collected by the House Republicans for raising the debt ceiling. The full faith credit of America will not be a bargaining chip.
White House Live@WHLive
Obama: “America cannot afford another debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they’ve already racked up.”
White House Live@WHLive
Obama: “If Congressional Republicans refuse to pay America’s bills on time, Social Security checks & veterans’ benefits will be delayed.”
White House Live@WHLive
President Obama: “Republicans in Congress have 2 choices here. They can act responsibly & pay their bills. Or they can act irresponsibly.”
Sounds that way. It is particualrly refreshing that he is not saying Congress needs to act, or the House needs to act. He is placing it all squarely on the GOP.
Very astute of PBO to point out explicitly, that it is House Republicans, who will be held responsible for any debt ceiling fallout. He didn’t use the all encompassing ‘Congress’ that insinuates both Dems and Thugs
Let’s finish this debate—-we pay our bills so we can move on—-lots to do, lists all that awaits—-educ., immigration, gun violence.
AP—-Julie Pace—-opposition to assault weapons ban—-PBO says VP going thru thorough analysis, presented to PBO with list of steps to take, will have a fuller presentation later in the week—-says starting point is not politics but what makes sense, what keeps our kids safe. Members of Congress will have to examine their own conscience.
PBO will be receiving recs from VP Joe on gun violence this week. He’ll be reviewing all that work and he will be fighting for stronger background checks, restricting high capacity clips, assault weapon ban. Whether or not this will pass Congress, he’s going to be honest with American people.
White House Live@WHLive
President Obama: “If there is a step we can take that will save even one child from what happened in Newtown, we should take that step.”
If House & Senate want to give me the responsibility, I’m happy to take it. If they want to keep the responsibility then they ought to go ahead and do it.
Unlike the clueless media, and many clueless members of Congress, the President understands the Constitution. Congress (House & Senate) which has the “power of the purse” is responsible for paying U.S. debts.
I was thrilled to hear President Obama use the term DEADBEAT. Most Americans are not up on the details of the debt limit debate, but everybody knows what it means to be a DEADBEAT. The notion that elected officials would use not paying bills that THEY INCURRED as leverage to get what they want is repugnant. The administration has been relentlessly on message making it plain that President Obama will not negotiate with congress on an issue that is their responsibility. Bottom line, if they can’t do their job then PBO says give him the responsibility and he will handle it. The only adult in the room making sense as usual.
Toadie says Dems begging PBO to use 14th Amendment to resolve debt ceiling issue. PBO says if Congress wants to give me that power to raise the debt ceiling “I’m happy to do it.” PBO says McConnell had such a proposal last year.
Chuck Todd and all those “Dems begging PBO to use 14th Amendment” need to be told to go read the enforcement section of the 14th Amendment. President Obama is a Constitutional lawyer. I am absolutely certain that if the fourteenth Amendment gave him authority to raise the debt ceiling he would have done so by now. To tell you the truth, I was disappointed to hear former President Clinton buying into the 14th Amendment myth.
Todd—-says Harry Reid sent you a letter begging you to take an exec. order on debt ceiling matter. Is Obama considering a Plan B and if not why not. PBO says the issue is America pays its bills—-we are not a deadbeat nation. If the House and Senate give him the authority so they don’t have to take these tough votes, then he’ll be happy to take it. Says there are no magic tricks here, no loopholes, that Congress authorizes spending—-then PBO required by law to pay the bills—-and has to raise debt ceiling to make sure those bills are paid. Raising the debt ceiling does not authorize us to spend more, just authorizes us to pay our bills. The notion that Repubs suggest that the only way to get their way on spending priorities would risk the full faith and credit of the U.S. is unimaginable. Todd protests answer with further questioning which I can’t hear and is likely stupid.
Chukky is insisting about the debt ceiling. BO reminded him of a simple way to handle it: raise the debt ceiling for spending already occured, then work on addition cuts going forward.
What exactly are the GOP cuts? They won’t say. The math doesn’t add up.
PBO again doing the math about how much debt has already been stabilized.
Demonstrating how ridiculous and illogical the MSM/GOP talking points are.
PBO reminds Chukky that Congress could not even identify $1 it wants to cuts from the already agreed $1.2T of cuts.
PBO will not discuss additional cuts while the American people has a gun on its head (by the House Republicans).
Chukky is insisting again and again. PBO patiently but with an inch of impatience explained that if Congress wants to give him the power to raise the debt ceiling, he will gladly do it. PBO insists that Congress needs to do its job: raise the debt ceiling.
Major Garrett. Could someone just yank his FauxNews-y ass off the damned WH Press Corp please? Where’s that dude from the Apollo Theatre with the giant hook, when ya need him?
Puts it that you have to pay the restaurant bill for the meal you’ve eaten.
The conversation is about future outings, maybe less expensive resaturants.
Major Garret another annoying simpleton. ” Boo-hoo hoo PBO won’t debate. Other presidents debated.”
PBO wiping floor. This Congress is off the wall. No use comparing it to other congresses.
The only alternatives proposed by the Republicans is either hurt seniors and college kids, or hurt the economy by not raising the debt ceiling. He disagrees with both alternatives.
PBO said to Major that he will not have every month or every 3 month a conversation about whether or not we are going to pay our bills. This hurts the economy.
Major Garrett—-finding votes in raising debt ceiling can be difficult——said he and Chuck Todd are puzzled why Obama does not take exec. action—-that PBO must want to go into default. Obama again makes the case that Repubs are being jerks and holding country’s economy hostage unless they get all they want politically——will only raise debt ceiling if they get their desired spending cuts. Major keeps pushing Repub line of questioning. Obama says he is not being unreasonable and believes American people would agree. Doesn’t want to establish this cockeyed precedent—-that you will default if you don’t get your way.
Karl—-asking what can he on gun violence without Cong. —-and what does he make of long lines at gun shows and increased sales of guns. Obama says he is confident that there are some steps he can take—-for ex. how we track gun sales to criminals. About increased gun sales——says those who oppose any kind of sensible gun legislation gin up fear that fed. govt. is about to take all your guns away—-economic element, good for the gun biz. Says responsible gun owners know there is nothing to worry about. Need to take steps to try to prevent some nut from walking into a school and gunning down a bunch of children.
PBO reminds all fools in the room that people in the right play on fear and force other fools to believe that their 2nd amendment rights will be taken away. Thus, fools piling up guns which in turn is good for the gun industry business.
Julianna somebody—-asking if Obama means it when he says he will not negotiate on debt ceiling, with a false premise—-that he hasn’t kept his word on past similar statements. Moving on….
Again with debt ceiling. Julianna Goldman from Bloomberg challenging PBO’s veracity in an insulting manner. Misstating the record and trying to make the President seem weak or untruthful .Asks why we should believe him now when he says he won’t have a debate about paying bills.
POTUS setting her straight.
PBO: We have to break the habit of negotiating through crisis. Now in my second term is the best time to do it. This is no way to conduct a business. Whether Republicans or Democrats his answer would be the same.
It is Up To Congress. They control the purse. They are mandated to pay the Bills. USA is NOT a Deadbeat Nation……That is to be repeated, over and over again.
Chips, this “diversity” mini uproar is just another example of a phony nontroversy designed to give the cable folks something new to talk about: ratings must be slagging.
If the issue is deficit reduction, then democrats and republicans will have a partner with me. We know what to do. Finishing the job is not that difficult. But if not paying our bill is the way to go, then it is Congress’s choice.
Commonsense prevails…..when Congress is sane and acting responsibly. In 1995….Newt and Co didn’t with a Dem POTUS. Since Jan 20, 2009……and since Jan 5, 2011……….Boehner holding USA hostage.
Oh please WHPC keep asking the same question over and over. It gives PBO a chance to re-iterate again and again to let the American public know how the system works. The sound bites on this evening news will reflect this, cause there’s little else to choose from. Thanks again, numbnuts.
Judge a Pres ….this pres when He is done. Going FORWARD!
Friendly guy, likes a great party. Not accusation hears while as senator. In other words….being a Dem and a Man of Color…..my opinion…..What changed? Great question…….perhaps the MSM should ask the TBGOPers……Hmmmmm?
Jackie Calmes—asking about criticisms, that PBO is too insular and his cabinet lacks diversity——NYT pushing that theme hard. Where the cocktail parties at? And why no women, except 43% of staff and 50% of WH staff?
Obama says premature to criticize—-selections not complete. PBO says he’s a pretty friendly guy, likes a good party. Says paralysis has nothing to do with that but a stark diff in policy—-said he likes Boner, they had a great time playing golf, but didn’t get any deal done. Says they enjoy everyone at the picnics, chat and get pictures taken with everyone but that doesn’t stop them from calling him a big spending socialist the next day.
They call him every name in the book, socialist, make veiled racist remarks, second guess his every move, fail to act responsibly and do their jobs as representatives of the people(with intention to obstruct) obstructing any positive move forward the President is trying for, they are dumb - he has to explain everything about the economy or any other situation at the 4th grade level or below when he does deign to take questions, and they want him to be invited over for a beer. Duh!??!
Diversity in his 2nd cabinet: the question is why does the cabinet appears less diverse? Answer: PBO reminds that women had a forceful voice in his cabinet and people should expect that this will continue. PBO said to wait to see all appointments before passing judgement.
Not socializing enough… PBO replied that most people who know him know him for someone who likes a good party. With the paralysis in Washington, most of the blame is in sharp differences in policy. For instance between him and the Speaker, there is quite an affaibility. But that doesn’t prevent the Speaker for calling him BIG SOCIALIST SPENDER in the floor of the House. At the end, socializing with PBO does not work for Republicans who are usually afraid to get a challenger from the right if they negotiate with him. Ask Charlie Chris of FL.
He invites folks all the times; when they choose to come, he is happy. When these folks believe that the optics do not work for them, they don’t come.
PBO says they invite people from Congress over all the time and many times they do not choose to come, that they think that hurts them politically, to be seen having an hors d’oerve at the WH. Says girls are getting older, not wanting to spend as much time with him, he may try to get some card games going so he’s not so lonely in the WH—-making a little jokey. And a little semi- snide comment about them worrying if he is the “life of the party or a stick in the mud”.
Actually they are not totally useless. I think if anything, they reveal to the American people what a feckless media we have, what an intelligent, hard-working, logical, reasonable, responsible President we have. And that truth is apparent with EVERY Press conference that our President holds. And I believe that more and more Americans are seeing and believing that truth.
Yes, PBO is letting folks no that he can’t control the crazy. Socializing with folks don’t prevent them from going on the floor of the HOuse the next day and calling him a big spending socialist.
Some may not agree, but I welcome the dumb-ass questions. They say more about the press and the Thugs than PBO. It gives him an opportunity to use the bully pulpit and show us, his voters why we re-elected him in the first place. This is exactly what the less than well informed need to hear. He just told those crazy old teabutts, that yes, you will not get your soc sec, if your party defaults on the debt. How’s that for keeping the government’s hand off your Medicare.
Thanks, Chips. I missed this and only got the tail end of the presser where that idiot woman asked about PBO being ‘insular’ and that dumbass diversity question. I wish the first words outta PBO’s mouth had been, “Fuck you and the whole DC press too.’
That press conference was fantastic from the perspective of Pres. Obama. He did not mince words about the debt ceiling, who will get the blame, gun safety measures, revenue, and oh yeah…..smacking down the crap that came from the front row section of the press corps. It made for fantastic tweeting.
Thank you all so much. You’ve made the whole press conference come to life. Are there any even half-way sensible reporters in the WHPC?
Are they all jerks who refuse to listen? Did the question of military support of the French in Mali come up, or, are they all obsessed with the debt ceiling.
The debt ceiling is the GOP’s problem. Lather, rinse, repeat.
By Greg Sargent
——————————-
Yeah, okay. The game here is: “Hey, we can’t control our crazies!!! Better give us what we want before they destroy us all!!!”
If anything, this underscores what a difficult spot John Boehner is in. Remember, Boehner is on record saying in 2011 that allowing default would mean “financial disaster” for the “world economy.” Even if it’s true that “more than half” of Republicans won’t support raising the debt ceiling unless it’s paired with draconian spending cuts, GOP leaders have the option of reaching a deal with the White House and passing it in the House with a lot of Democratic support.
If Boehner himself is already on record saying default will destroy the world economy, the substantive and political pressure on him to do this will be intense. Indeed, even some Republicans, such as Newt Gingrich and the Wall Street Journal editorial board, are warning that failing to raise the debt ceiling will invite political Armageddon for the GOP.
.
.
Nice try, but this is still on Republicans. If they are going to continue to threaten the global economy to get their way, it’s their problem.
Just a reminder to folks watching the presser. Many of us cannot watch it and rely on you folks to tell us what is being said. It would be nice rather than just making an editorial comment like “PBO is on fire” to let us know what is actually being said. Thank you.
Hi there, Japa. Not all of us have good editorial skills on the fly, but will try for a word here and there. ;)
Should add, will try, if our experts are not on duty.
I can’t ask for more. Well, I probably could, but I won’t. At least not right now, maybe later. Then again, can you…no, I’ll wait.

There is a reason for our love-hate relationship.

Okay, what’s this about? I missed the original heads-up.
Sure is hard to keep on top of this Admin.
Game on? Oh yeah.
Waiting for POTUS!!
I’m getting slow…CongratsJapa and VC!
Thanks, Carolmae. Not getting slow, just sometimes ‘oldsters’ put on their running shoes to see if they still have it. Sometimes they don’t, but, oh well!

Yes, CC, but what?
Yeah, I hear ya. :)

No, I’m suffering with a cough. Not even thinking clearly. A good time to just read.
What’s up? I’m way behind.
The last one of the first one!

He’s at the podium!
PBO will be taking questions in last week of 1st term
Detailing first term progress, laying out plans for second term. “We can’t finish job of deficit reduction through spending cuts alone.”
Adding savings = $2.5 T in deficit reduction not counting savings from winding down wars….. Fact is spending cuts alone won’t do it.
Great detail, appreciate it. Now let me know when he punches Tapper.
Okay, especially if he hits Chuckie Todd too
We can solve deficit issue without sacrificing investment in education - American people agree with me.
Open to make modest adjustments to programs….. but that alone won’t do it
Am. people agree with me.
Am people want us to get our books in order in a balanced way … and I agree
Re debt ceiling - “something most Americans hadn’t even heard of before two years ago”
POTUS going over his “balanced approach” to deficit reduction, emphasizing it was the centerpiece of his campaign.
Explaining debt ceiling - something majority of people hadn’t known about until two years ago.
If Congressional Republicans refuse to pay America’s bills on time, social security checks will be delayed, etc
That is a killer. Linking delayed SS checks to the GOP is critical. Appears he is doing a lot of preemptive strikes here. Launching the verbal drones.
‘launching the verbal drones’ :)
POTUS: LIFTING THE DEBT CEILING DOES NOT MEAN INCREASING SPENDING.
Talking about all those who won’t get paid if the GOP defaults, effects on economy.
“Self-inflicted wound on economy” that would likely INCREASE our deficit.
She’s back!
Debt ceiling is not a question of authorizing more spending; it simply allows the country to pay for spending it already occured.
If Republicans refuse to raise the debt ceiling on time, SS cheks will be delayed, other federal payments will not be made. Everyone will be affected.
It will be a self inflicted wound on the economy.

For us not to pay our bills would be irresponsible and absurd - up to House Republicans
They will NOT collect a ransom in exchange for not crashing the American economy
PBO: Full faith and credit of the United States is not a bargaining chip.
White House Live@WHLive
Obama: “America cannot afford another debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they’ve already racked up.”
Pres seems to be detailing the issue of a ‘debate’ on debt ceiling
Yes, fully framing the debate from his point of view.
We gots a smart one, didn’t we, Ms Meta? *I* am. so. TREMENDOUSLY. proud of him. I’m off to peek at twitter
“Let’s finish this debate.” Growth growth growth, not austerity.
White House Live@WHLive
Obama: “If Congressional Republicans refuse to pay America’s bills on time, Social Security checks & veterans’ benefits will be delayed.”
Let’s finish this debate, let us give the economy the stability and certainty it needs.
In a nutshell, I’m still not going to debate raising the debt ceiling….next
Thanks VP Biden for gun control efforts, will review his proposals today
White House Live@WHLive
President Obama: “Republicans in Congress have 2 choices here. They can act responsibly & pay their bills. Or they can act irresponsibly.”
boom! drops mike!
That’s it in a nutshell!
Hey Japa - PBO is in fact on fire.
Absolutely! :-)
LOLz! Yes, he is.
Sounds that way. It is particualrly refreshing that he is not saying Congress needs to act, or the House needs to act. He is placing it all squarely on the GOP.
First question from AP’s Julie Pace on gun control
1st question - Julie from AP re gun violence
White House Live@WHLive
President Obama: “[Republicans in Congress] will not collect a ransom in exchange for not crashing the American economy.”
“My starting point is not to worry about the politics, my starting point is to focus on what works”
PBO getting fuller info from VPJoe later today. PBO’s focus is to do what makes sense
? 1. Chance of gun violence legis passing.
PBO says focus should be on safety and on what works
So the first question about gun violence.. which he had just stated he’d address in the next few days. Thanks for listening WHPC.. way to go.
Julie’s new (POTUS congratulated her on her new job). Thank goodness for fresh blood!
White House Live@WHLive
President Obama: “The financial well-being of the American people is not leverage to be used.”
Very astute of PBO to point out explicitly, that it is House Republicans, who will be held responsible for any debt ceiling fallout. He didn’t use the all encompassing ‘Congress’ that insinuates both Dems and Thugs
I should have read further before making that comment upthread. You are correct, this is gloves off bare knickle fighting.
I have no idea what a knickle is, but I do know what a knuckle is, just can’t type it.
Members of Congress will have to examine their own conscience.
we can do a much better job of keeping assault weapons out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them
I’ll present details later in the week
Chuck Todd’s next… ugh!
Chuck Todd….
PBO will be receiving recs from VP Joe on gun violence this week. He’ll be reviewing all that work and he will be fighting for stronger background checks, restricting high capacity clips, assault weapon ban. Whether or not this will pass Congress, he’s going to be honest with American people.
Details will be presented later in the week.
White House Live@WHLive
President Obama: “If there is a step we can take that will save even one child from what happened in Newtown, we should take that step.”
who the eff does Chuck Todd thinks he’s talking to in that tone of voice???
He always does that. He is a piece of excrement. Jealous asshole.
Chuckie toad is on the floor - I’ll pass, thank you - he’s gone back to debt ceiling
President Obama: If there is a step we can take that will save even one child from what happened in Newtown, we should take that step”
Chuck Toad—exec action on debt ceiling?
The issue is paying bills. We are not a deadbeat nation.
Did that ever open the door for PBO to take advantage of a teachable moment. Thanks Chuckles
If House & Senate want to give me the responsibility, I’m happy to take it. If they want to keep the responsibility then they ought to go ahead and do it.
Unlike the clueless media, and many clueless members of Congress, the President understands the Constitution. Congress (House & Senate) which has the “power of the purse” is responsible for paying U.S. debts.
PBO so patient spelling out details for our brain damaged PC
If they want me to accept responsibility for raising the debt ceiling, I’ll be happy to do it. Nothing like a ‘School House Rock’ lesson.
Good morning all….Chuck Todd is the consummate ass hole. What a way to start my morning …sheesh!
Major Garrett is too!
He is a pile of steaming crap, Yardarm.
Sorry Chips, he ain’t that hot. There’s nothing fresh about him. And now the front row is playing the gotcha game. It really fouls my anchor.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: WE ARE NOT A “DEADBEAT” NATION.
PBO has repeated this more than once. I sure hope it’s getting through.
I want to repeat…
Raising the debt ceiling does not authorize us to spend more. All it does is…..
Toadie says Dems begging PBO to use 14th Amendment to resolve debt ceiling issue. PBO says if Congress wants to give me that power to raise the debt ceiling “I’m happy to do it.” PBO says McConnell had such a proposal last year.
“We are not a deadbeat nation.”
Chukky wants to know if PBO has a Plan B for the debt ceiling. Whenever one hears of a Plan B, one can be sure that the source must be a Republican.
How did that asswipe get the job? Whose ass did he kiss, rub, lick?
Thanks for all the live-blogging, TODers. Really appreciate it!
Sounds like my President is on fire!  :-P
Chuck Todd keeps on grumbling…
Chuckie Toad is persisting re debt ceiling. He seriously annoys me.
BTW, posting is slower, so I’m guessing people at work are getting lots of info. Good stuff, TODobots.
Chukky is insisting about the debt ceiling. BO reminded him of a simple way to handle it: raise the debt ceiling for spending already occured, then work on addition cuts going forward.
President Obama is trying to explain to Chuckie how spending/cuts work .
What exactly are the GOP cuts? They won’t say. The math doesn’t add up.
PBO again doing the math about how much debt has already been stabilized.
Demonstrating how ridiculous and illogical the MSM/GOP talking points are.
There is no simpler solution than Congress does what they have to do or they give me the responsibility.
Bills will be paid.
Todd keeps asking same questions over and over—-he thinks this is about him—-being a dope—-as PBO has to keep repeating same answers.
Another jerk is reminding the President that he once didn’t approve raising the debt ceiling (as a Senator).
Major Garrett. Could someone just yank his FauxNews-y ass off the damned WH Press Corp please? Where’s that dude from the Apollo Theatre with the giant hook, when ya need him?
Major Garrett.
The then sen didn’t hold USA’s full Faith and Credit Hostage.
These People are just nuts…….Basta*dly so.
PBO: We’ve gotta stop lurching from crisis to crisis, when there’s a clear path to a disciplined, responsible approach…
Chuckie Todd trying his best with the rightwing talking points.
It is never framed by Chuck and his DC cousins the Obstructionism of the TBGOPers.
Would this Congress tolerate another nation holding USA’s Full Faith and Credit Hostage? Would they not be obligated to declare war on that Nation?
Now Major is using false equivalence Right wingers’ style.
PBO to Major Garrett: raising the debt ceiling is always a difficult vote. He reminded him what he went through last year.
PBO said that he would be happy to talk about how to reduce the deficit in a sensible way.
PBO highlighting that every result the Repubs offer damages the country.
He makes my blood boil.
Still scolding Major. Major still fighting.
Even the threat of default hurts our economy, says PBO.
PBO to Major Garrett: … in fact, we just had an entire campaign about how to deal with the debt and the America people agreed with me!
Bam! goes the hammer!
Q: What are you willing to do to accomplish a gun solution, i.e. how far are you willing to go? Pres is currently answering
Another jerk asked what the PBO makes up with the fact that many fools are piling up guns while we are discussing how to decrease gun violence.
You TODers are killing it with your live blogging. On behalf of those of us unable to watch the presser: a big, sloppy THANK YOU kiss!
Anytime.
Each of you are far more masterful with news than the hyena-corps! I mean it! WTG! (ps: g’day!) :)
Moving on….
Bloomberg’s Julianna Goldman
That’s the horrid, sadistic David Shuster’s now ex-wife…
The petty, snarky stuff appears to be contagious…
Again with debt ceiling. Julianna Goldman from Bloomberg challenging PBO’s veracity in an insulting manner. Misstating the record and trying to make the President seem weak or untruthful .Asks why we should believe him now when he says he won’t have a debate about paying bills.
POTUS setting her straight.
A woman who found David Shuster attractive…
A woman who married David Shuster…
That’s pretty much all you need to know about Ms. Goldman…
PBO: We have to break the habit of negotiating through crisis. Now in my second term is the best time to do it. This is no way to conduct a business. Whether Republicans or Democrats his answer would be the same.
Julianna keeps asking same question over and over and over also. WHPC seriously diseased.
Juliana is having a tantrum and insists on the hostage taken method.
She works for Bloomberg…..was once married to David Shuster of Current TV.
The pres is laying as it is.
Thanks. It is good to know the links and bonds between the Fool Press Corps.
Matt Spetalnik, Reuters—-another similar debt celing question, starting to nod off.
On government shutdown…
PBO reminds the fools that Congress has the vote to do that if this is what it wants to do. But he disagree with this method.
Shutdown?
Ultimately Congress makes decisions about keeping Gov’t open.
If they do that it will be a mistake.
American people will blame all of Washington.
But what is our real objective?
President laying it out for the umpteenth time.
PBO patiently trying to explain that Repub point of view was rejected during the pres. campaign and election. WHPC stares back slack-jawed.
It is Up To Congress. They control the purse. They are mandated to pay the Bills. USA is NOT a Deadbeat Nation……That is to be repeated, over and over again.
Exactly!
Helloooooooo nathkatun, we keep missing each other!
Chips, this “diversity” mini uproar is just another example of a phony nontroversy designed to give the cable folks something new to talk about: ratings must be slagging.
Looks like they hurriedly rearranged the seating and threw in a few women…
Ha, exactly what it looked like Chi!
PBO said he hopes common sense prevails—-after witnessing the cranial density in this room, may be too much to hope for.
:-)
If the issue is deficit reduction, then democrats and republicans will have a partner with me. We know what to do. Finishing the job is not that difficult. But if not paying our bill is the way to go, then it is Congress’s choice.
Our PBO is infinitely a better person than I am - because I would’ve already jumped into that Press Corps and strangled one of them
+ 1,000,000,000,000
Commonsense prevails…..when Congress is sane and acting responsibly. In 1995….Newt and Co didn’t with a Dem POTUS. Since Jan 20, 2009……and since Jan 5, 2011……….Boehner holding USA hostage.
In 4 yrs most diverse WH in History.
Will continue with that methodology.
Oh please WHPC keep asking the same question over and over. It gives PBO a chance to re-iterate again and again to let the American public know how the system works. The sound bites on this evening news will reflect this, cause there’s little else to choose from. Thanks again, numbnuts.
jackie calmes NYTimes IDIOT.
Why are you so remote? And What about diversity?
New York Times speaks for the 1% that owns them. Rarely miss a chance to falsely attack accuse PBO.
President advises her to wait until entire team is assembled.
And about socializing and patting folks on the back. PBo sets her straight on her crap.
Duh!??!
I dare any of these fatuously bat poop DC Journos to ask any TBGOPer questions as they have asked this president using the same TONE. I dare them.
GAAAAH, the press are totally USELESS. ARGHHHHHHH, they drive me nuts.
Sorry meta - I misread your post as “presser” and not “press.”
Yes, you are correct about the press 100%!!!
Well there it is. Bam I think he means it, eh? I bet the rethugs are meeting in the bathroom at the urinals and in stalls. Shaking and “baking”, ha!
They’re actually at a retreat right now to decide to default on the debt limit.
Good for them. They’ll miss a pay day along with the rest of us.
Ah, I share your wish Lisa!!
As the old folks use to say, PBO just told the Pubs that ‘you must not think fat means greasy’
That press conference was fantastic from the perspective of Pres. Obama. He did not mince words about the debt ceiling, who will get the blame, gun safety measures, revenue, and oh yeah…..smacking down the crap that came from the front row section of the press corps. It made for fantastic tweeting.
So Bonehead tweets, ‘the American people do want to hold the country hostage’ nah, nah, nah, nah, nah……
New post!
http://theobamadiary.com/2013/01/14/gop-will-not-collect-ransom-in-exchange-for-not-crashing-american-economy/
Want to thank everybody for providing a lot of detail. Sounds like it was another dynamic performance.
PBO was on fire!
:) :)
Yes he was!! :-)
I’m going to bring my tweets over for those who couldn’t watch the press conference.
Thanks folks for breaking it down for me. For some reason I do not tune into theses presser
s. I have high blood pressure and I am alone in the hosue.
Good morning/afternoon everyone :)
What makes David Gregory think the debt ceiling hurts our President? There goes Gregory again with the vile right wing talking points.
