Weâre just supposed their word for it.
Why donât the news sites have a link to a list of Senators threatening filibuster so that voters can easily spot whether their elected official is thwarting #TheyDeserveAVote?
Media has plenty of time to cover HILLARY 2016! or OBAMA SEXIST! or Fox News Reporter Could Go to Jail For Withholding Sources!
but have NO time to provide actual information that citizens can use.
Congresscritters and Senators are not the only ones who deserve to have their pay withheld.
Journalists should be docked pay for contributing only to non-stories.
I went to go see Olympus Has Fallen the weekend. Wanted to support Antoine Fuqua, but that was really hard to watch. It was way over the top (unnecessarily so, in my opinion) violent. I kept thinking something like that could happen in real life and reminding myself that our First Family is well-protected. Plus it didnât help that most of my immediate family was in DC this weekend on a spring break road trip. Iâve had nightmares two nights straight since seeing the film. It was a mistake to go. Iâm too squeamish.

Martin Heinrich (New Mexico) appears to be the only Dem.
Iâve posted tweets on Heinrich here before (if youâre interested in seeing a photo of the Senator, click on the “pic” link if no white twitter box):

I emailed Chambliss and Isakson earlier today. This is the response I received from Isakson:
———-
” I support the Second Amendment right of all law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families. I firmly believe that we do not need more gun control in America; rather we need more criminal control. To that end, I support instant background checks on the commercial purchase of all guns to prevent convicted felons from obtaining them, but I do not support waiting periods or the registration of any firearm. As many of these issues reemerge in the 113th Congress, I will work for common-sense legislation that keeps our children safe without infringing upon our Second Amendment rights. ”
———-
Have not gotten a response from Chambliss as of yet.
You all understand why I get so angry and frustrated when people (who should know better) express skepticism and mistrust of my President on Twitter, blogs, anywhere. Why would this man deliberately push policies that hurt the most vulnerable among us?
The people accusing him of cutting SS need to look at this speech and do some damn soul searching as to why they are inclined to believe media reports of PBO hurting the vulnerable.
Hopefruit, I am with you 100%! I am sick and tired of people questioning President Obamaâs commitment to “the most vulnerable among us.” People refuse to face reality! The President has to deal with a Republican dominated Congress. He canât get anything done unless he finds some creative ways to compromise with Republicans, but at the same time protect the interests of the poor and the middle class. Thatâs exactly what he is doing! Purity progressives talk a big game but they havenât shown me how they intend to make progress in the current reality in Congress.
This is similar to a tweet I sent this morning, but it captures the real problem. The GOP can only win if good people give up. It happened to some degree in 2010. We canât allow it to happen in 2014 or where there are elections this year. We have local elections in Illinois tomorrow. These are typically low turnout elections but I will do my best to make sure no GOPers win any office.
Every time I get fed up with politics and want to drop out, I realize that is exactly what GOP wants me and others to do. Ain't gonna do it
We have to keep pounding the Senators for an up-or-down vote and make sure our Reps hear from us on a daily basis. The NRA does, and so we must do it too! Shame them into action.
Sorry to drop in so sporadically these days. Work is super intense now & yet lovely. But it takes me away from TOD. Boo-hoo! Pretty soon Iâll be able to get back more often & comment.
Nath, when you get here from westcoast timezone, I didnât forget your comment quite a few threads ago. I forgot to bookmark it so when I have a moment I can respond. Can you help an overworked person & let me know which post it was — this was about 2nd amendement fab comment you had & you were curious about my opinion. It started w/ my enjoyment of yours & Bobfrâs back & forth conversation. Bobfr, Hugs! Hugs to you too Donna!
Meanwhile, I love lurking on TOD when Iâm on my 36-passenger commute limo. Uh-Huh! :) and when my smartphone doesnât let me down, Iâll comment. Mostly, I love catching up w/ everyone during the commute — or almost catching up.
Chips, TODers, donât give that ugly asshole any more attention, or your oxygen. Heâs in ether & needs to dissolve. Damn, did you all know there are for real assholes who are also just plain damn ugly?! Hello! :)
xox, gotta take care of the mundane & crash, itâs been a long day!
Hi, Chipsticks, are you referring to comments Gazelle is asking me about? If you are, can you please refer her to the post she is looking for? Finally, I am thankful that you liked the dialogue I had with our great Bobfr!
I am not sure, Chips. Hopefully, thatâs what Gazelle was looking for. In any case, thank you so much for taking the time to look for it. To borrow from the “Boss,” you really do take care of your own!
Chipsticks, you are really bad! I bet yours is probably way much better looking than this one, but then again Iâve never actually paid any attention to Bruce Springsteenâs bottom before. Definitely this one does absolutely nothing for me. I do have my preferences, but itâs best I keep that thought to myself. I donât want purist feminists, with no sense of humor, attacking your blog.
Thank you, Chips. Alas, no. But I will bribe time somehow and find it. LOL! Thatâs how my days are these days: bribe Peter for time & promise Paul his tomorrow, which never comes! :)
Hey, Gazelle! Great to hear from you. Soory youâve been working so hard. Thanks for kind words about my comment. I feel bad because I cannot remember the thread where I made the comment you are interested in. May be the incredible Bobfr remembers it. If I am not mistaken, the only comment of mine that I remember asking your opinion was about using Section 2 of the 14th Amendment to counter voter suppression laws. But then again it might have been about the 2nd Amendment because I am not totally sold that it guarantees individuals the right to own guns — especially military style assault weapons. Iâve actually embarked on a mission to study the genesis and the rationale for the 2nd Amendment. I especially want to know what the drafters of the 2nd Amendment had in mind, when they premised or conditioned “the right of people to keep and bear arms” on the necessity of “A well regulated militia.” This will take some time, but I will definitely share with you my tentative findings.
Keep exposing them Bob! By the way Bob, can you assist Gazelle to find the thread where you and I were having a conversation about the 2nd Amendment? As you know, I strongly support your call on Congress and the President to pay attention to the 2nd Amendmentâs phrase about “A well regulated militia..
Not AMK, he has taught me how to be a misogynistic, sarcastic SOB though. You, on the other hand have taught me how to be bad in so many ways, yet disguise it at the same time.
Iâd put it more like, dunno, Sunday? I think the signs were there even this morning. Itâs sad, really, he used to be such a gentleman, which is why I proposed marriage. Oh well.
You donât know the half of it Hopef! If all the candidates Chips approaches accepted, we would be running around after her full time throwing rice or whatever it is thatâs thrown these days.
Nah, Hopef. Itâs been coming a while now with little bits here and there. The same process was evidenced in Bobfr. The shell cracks open one day and weâre not sure we heard correctly, so we other villagers blink and carry on. A few hours/days later another piece breaks free, and we turn our heads and look at it carefully, surprised by what we see/hear, but still think itâs an anomaly and maybe we are mistaken. Then one day …CR-A-A-A-ACCK! The whole new chip-a-ram bursts forth - and the rest of us fall backwards in consternation! Of course, I havenât decided yet if they learnt at the feet of the wimmin ‘masterâ or the ‘minâ master, or both! [I confess itâs fun though to see how people in TOD Village learn - from writing blogs to writing letters to congressmen to saying what we think or not saying but ‘showingâ what we REALLY think.] This is an awesome LEARNING place to hang out! Youâve birthed a weally, weally gud place, Chips Chica!

Loved the manner in which LOD welcomed our fine and brilliant Jon, ‘Greatest Presidential Speech Writerâ in my lifetime. Lawrence was very excited to have Jon on and said that Jon will be back many more times in the future. Great respect for one of our fine young person from POBâs Administration.
I love that we here had a lot to do with encouraging all of these beautiful young people who gave(and continue to give) so much to this Administration. Our great president deserves this beautiful respect. What an honor for all of these brilliant young people. All the work that Chips and all TODers did to elect and reelect POB will keep our hearts filled with so many wonderful memories.HZ
NAMES AND PHOTOS OF THE REPUBLICAN SENATORS THREATENING TO FILIBUSTER GUN VIOLENCE LEGISLATION SHOULD BE ON THE FRONT PAGES OF ALL NEWSPAPERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY EVERY DAY UNTIL AN UP OR DOWN VOTE IS TAKEN.

What a powerful, powerful speech President Obama gave today in Connecticut! Shame on all of us Americans if we fail to step up and put pressure on Congress to do the right thing.
I completely agree. You would have thought I was a good sistah at Sunday service. My neighbors probably thought I had lost my mind. He was absolutely superb!
Yes He was, Fay! He really poured his soul! Haters can hate all they want, but we elected a great man as our president. Everyday, I am grateful that the majority of American voters rejected haters and elected him twice as our President.
Thank you HZ for your kind and thoughtful words and for all the inspiring comments you post on this site. In spite of all the ugliness being thrown at him from everywhere, our President refuses to give up his love and faith in the goodness of most people.
Just thinking about the difficuty in getting a vote on what should be so obvious. It feels to me, like we are in the process of purging the poison out of the body politic. This is a painful process. People hoped the Civil War cleansed it, but it just went underground. It arose with Jim Crow. Then, people hope it was cleansed with the Civil Rights legislation and action, but it went underground. Iâm sure some on this blog knew of the hate and poison boiling underground, but many of us in safe little places did not know. Since the election of President Obama it has exploded in full fury. I” have a clear feeling that he knew at least some of what would explode after festering. I do not believe he is surprised.
I do not like all this, but I keep thinking what Justice Brandeis said: Sunlight is the best disinfectant. The process is painful…..just like cleaning a physical wound is painful.
But, I saw the sign one of the Newtown parents carried on to Air Force One…..”Love Wins” Wow! If that woman could say that, it is up to us who love the president and our country to make sure this happens.
Every Sunday our pastor talks about the power of love. He prays the same prayer at the close of every service…..”Pray for peace, work for peace, wage a little peace, and love one another, EVERY SINGLE OTHER” We say that last phrase together. My husband asked…”Do I have to love GWB?” We asked the pastor, he laughed, and said his wife refuses to say that phrase because she knows she canât love every single other. Thatâs our human reaction. But, I do believe that in the long run, love does win. That is all that can change hearts and minds, not arguments, not reasoning,…….I have felt love on this blog ever since I started reading, and that is what has held me here. I find this unusual in a group of people who do not know each other personally, but are united in one purpose. I see and feel here the power of love. I believe we can spread this.
Carolyn, that was beautifully stated and I agree with every word. The dark underbelly of racist American has been revealed in all its disgusting depths since PBO was elected. Itâs shocking and deeply disturbing. I hope and pray that seeing all this ugliness out in the open will open the minds of decent people to the fact that this racist poison will kill this country if we donât act.
Love is more powerful than hate and itâs also much, much harder. So easy to think that someone else is “lesser” and more worthy of contempt than you are. So hard to see the goodness in people (no matter how hidden) and love them despite themselves.
I love TOD because it concentrates on what matters to people - as does President Obama. While the blogosphere is talking about a Prime Minister the UK could well have done without (just ask the Scots about the poverty they endured at that time) - TOD is caring about those who have been so harmed by the GOP dependence on violent weapons.
I also love TOD because - Manchester United - just as a minor secondary thing.
Have just emailed WP support asking if itâs possible to apply a log-in glitch to a single TOD visitor. Marked the email ‘Urgentâ, so hopefully theyâll reply *very* soon.
You guys have the only “war” goinâ on that makes me wish I had brought some popcorn! So funny. All the threats are delicious. (Can you tell I was born and raised in New Jersey, where this kind of talk is required?)
Jacqueline, itâs an ugly war of attrition, but I am now confident I have the Amk person trapped in the trenches, especially if WP provide me with a way of mucking up his log-in. Stay tuned, pop more popcorn, this one could run and run.
Yes, weâre all watchinâ, Chips. As they used to say after the end of the “commercial break” for the snack bar during a drive-in movie (yes, I am THAT old):
99ts, I got so sick of hearing about Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, I turned the television off. The revisionist history is astounding. I shudder to think of the revisionist story they will weave about the Obama presidency.
Yes indeed, 99ts! And despite all the racism and brutality he endured, Nelson Mandela never lost his humanity and his capacity to love! Listening to the President today, you come away overwhelmed by his capacity to transcend the silliness and the hate and focus on improving the lives of all people.
I cannot imagine that anyone from Manchester would be a Torrie Fan - real people play football & most would be very anti-Thatcher - the tories play rugby
United fans definitely lefties - and also, oddly, quite anti-England. But thatâs a common trait among northern clubs, who wouldnât be overly-fond of ‘the southâ, where all the power and wealth lies.
And Alex Ferguson is a complete leftie, former union man, Labour supporter, etc. Although, very rich!
The President was absolutely brillant today and made an absolutely wonderful, impassioned speech today. I was beginning to think that gun safety was dead. I believe with all the Whitehouse efforts this week including Flotus there just might be a chance to shame these 10/11 Republicans to back down and allow a vote.
They have no excuses as why the new laws should not be inacted. So they fillabuster to try and skirt the issue.
Hello, TOD…..thank you, Chips for the video of yet another powerful speech from our President.
I just feel the pain for everyone who has been affected by gun violence. It could be any one of us, if this is allowed to continue and we dare forget.
As the day ones to an end, I would like to share something positive that on this day in 1974, Henry “Hank” Aaron sets Major home run record.
Back to study…..
I took a break and surprisingly ran into Miss Pat on this beautiful day……sad for the families their lives will never be the same.
McConell said on floor today, that he is blocking gun control legislation until Reid comes clean on whatâs in the bill!
Comes clean???

Why donât the news sites have a link to a list of Senators threatening filibuster so that voters can easily spot whether their elected official is thwarting #TheyDeserveAVote?
Media has plenty of time to cover HILLARY 2016! or OBAMA SEXIST! or Fox News Reporter Could Go to Jail For Withholding Sources!
but have NO time to provide actual information that citizens can use.
Congresscritters and Senators are not the only ones who deserve to have their pay withheld.
Journalists should be docked pay for contributing only to non-stories.
Reply
NC is trying to become more of a redneck state than SC. Neither Republican senator from SC is on the list.
Groan!…but agree
Thank you for the list.
But itâs incomplete.
That was my whine. Canât locate the list via Google, and Politico hasnât reposted a revised version of the one they took down.
Iâm going to tweet you an update…
So where is Tweety Matthews on this? No comment? Lost voice? Jaws wired shut? Lips stapled?
He is on the correct side with passion.
He loved PBOâs speech today.
With no mea culpas for his silly little tantrum last week?
He gave a very passionate support to gun control and PBO tonight…LIVE on his 7PM show
Iâm not impressed if he didnât apologize for his premature and false rant last week about PBO not leading .
Have you been to see 42 ? Is that movie out yet? Now that is the movie I want to see, the movie about Jackie and Rachel Robinson.
I think itâs out this week. Looking forward to it.
I am too Dudette.

AZ Jeff Flake
GA Saxby Chambliss
GA Johnny Isakson
IN Dan Coats
IA Chuck Grassley
ME Susan Collins

NH Kelly Ayotte

———-
Have not gotten a response from Chambliss as of yet.
frigging ff.
AMEN.
Does anyone know what PBOâs new bracelet says?
I guess I should say, “wrist band”!!
“Every time I get fed up with politics and want to drop out, I realize that is exactly what GOP wants me and others to do.Ainât gonna do it.”
Thank you Japa for sharing this! All of us need to heed your example. We cannot quit, even if we donât win every battle we are engaged in.
O/T but important nonetheless…..some data driven info that may surprise you.
Gazelle, thatâs up there with the most awesomest comments ever! Youâre a hoot - crash gently, and sleep well!
Hi, Chipsticks, are you referring to comments Gazelle is asking me about? If you are, can you please refer her to the post she is looking for? Finally, I am thankful that you liked the dialogue I had with our great Bobfr!
Hiya Nathkatun, was it this thread?
http://theobamadiary.com/2013/04/07/in-my-heart-i-knew-what-the-back-room-meant/
I am not sure, Chips. Hopefully, thatâs what Gazelle was looking for. In any case, thank you so much for taking the time to look for it. To borrow from the “Boss,” you really do take care of your own!
Ah Nathkatun, if only I had the Bossâs good-looking bottom - or is that demeaning??
Rest well! You need it after along day.
Ouch!!!
Notice that I carefully avoided speaking ill of the dead.
 You are BAD Japa ….. in a delicious way!
Well, thank you. I learned at the feet of a master.
Amk? I know, me too
You better beware that I can login again.
Ah jeez, I thought the glitches had kept you out and I was free to abuse you!
Ha. fâin ff thought it had me licked. Kicked its sorry ass first thing today am.
Not AMK, he has taught me how to be a misogynistic, sarcastic SOB though. You, on the other hand have taught me how to be bad in so many ways, yet disguise it at the same time.
Youâre welcome, japa.
My gratitude knows no bounds.
see, if you were vc, it would have cost you 10,000 bucks.
DISCRIMINATION! DISCRIMINATION! And I was just about to tell Japa he WAS NOT misogynistic! Well, I never!!!
Iâm still trying to figure out what to say, either:
(a) Why, thank you kind sir!
or
(b) Oi!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Good one Japa.
Hopefruit, do you remember the time Japa was a nice person?
um..er..that was just earlier this morning! What happened…did Uncle Mitch slip a pill in Japaâs tea this evening?
Iâd put it more like, dunno, Sunday? I think the signs were there even this morning. Itâs sad, really, he used to be such a gentleman, which is why I proposed marriage. Oh well.
However, I noticed you havenât revoked that proposal yet.
No, not yet Japa, youâve only used up 86 of your 87 chances, so youâre still good to go.
And any way, I canât get out of my dress after trying it on, so: ‘Please proceed, marriageâ.
Is she hiding her future husband and his ushers under there????
Isonprize, starting to feel a little offended now. Are you saying my wedding dress is over-big????
LOL! I would have sworn I saw you propose to E. mo Black this morning! :)
Hush, Hopefruit - my secret! (He rejected me, so Iâll take Japa instead).
As Rick Perry would say: ooops….
 If Japa calls off the marriage, let it be on YOUR conscience!
You donât know the half of it Hopef! If all the candidates Chips approaches accepted, we would be running around after her full time throwing rice or whatever it is thatâs thrown these days.
My response to this scurrilous comment is a mixture of rage, rage, rage, rage and laughing-so-hard-Iâm-actually-crying.
Shame on you VC.
 That wasnât meant for your eyes. ‘If I have offended you in any way….. donât tell anyoneâ
Youâve birthed a weally, weally gud place, Chips Chica!
muttering to self (I like to think I am an observer, me.)

From my TL, people just getting plain fed up with Chris Hayes. I understand, I understand.
AND HEREIN LIES THE QUESTION!!
@lawrence viewing alert:
The “best looking speechwriter” will be on tonight. (Reminds me of the surfer look so popular during my preteen years; fellow baby boomers, think Jan & Dean):
LIBERAL IS NOT ADIRTY WORD!…ha!
LOL.
“The new website for House Republicans neglects to mention that theyâre Republicans”
Rachel just said FLOTUS is going to give a policy speech on gun control in Chicago on Wednesday.
WOW!! The Closer.
Darn…I have meetings upon meetings that day….
Skip them, this will be historic.
Canât. Have to present…
:(
No problem. Pull a McConnell - put off FTOTUSâ speech until you have finished
watching basketballyour meeting.Itâs a lunch discussion meeting with Mayor Rahm and Allstate CEO and other business leaders re. youth violence.

LadyH, you have to pass that suggestion on and hope it somehow falls on caring ears. Anyone game? Pick the station you favour, or create your own tweet but send them the thought. If enough wheels squeak a little bit of oil might just trickle in their direction. :???:
Despite the glitchy nature of tweets today, Iâm posting this NATO tweet because I thought it was an odd photo for NATO to send.
(I swear Iâm not prejudiced against Scandinavians, the picture just struck me as funny. Please donât ban me from the site.)
WH video of speech:
What a powerful, powerful speech President Obama gave today in Connecticut! Shame on all of us Americans if we fail to step up and put pressure on Congress to do the right thing.
I completely agree. You would have thought I was a good sistah at Sunday service. My neighbors probably thought I had lost my mind. He was absolutely superb!
Yes He was, Fay! He really poured his soul! Haters can hate all they want, but we elected a great man as our president. Everyday, I am grateful that the majority of American voters rejected haters and elected him twice as our President.
Nath, you are bringing on the floodgate of joyful tears again. Your words are so powerful. Thank you, nath.HZ
Thank you HZ for your kind and thoughtful words and for all the inspiring comments you post on this site. In spite of all the ugliness being thrown at him from everywhere, our President refuses to give up his love and faith in the goodness of most people.
Can we send Chris Hayes to Gitmo?
Lol!
Notice that Bernie Sanders has been remarkably silent on the gun control issue?
Heâs a Libertarian - thatâs why.
since twitter is all atwitter today
“I also love TOD because â Manchester United â just as a minor secondary thing.”
Excuse me 99ts? EXCUSE ME????
what happened to manc and manu derby ? Did c kick their ass?
Yup, they did. By 2-1. Not as good as the 6-1 whipping last year. But still ass kicking is ass kicking.
May the WP glitch return and prevent you from logging in.
nevah again.
Itâs showtime!
  Youâre a hooooooooowwwwwwl J!!!!
Amk and me should start charging a fee for viewing this battle - it could be a money-spinner!
This is only funny to me that I found it, but, hey.
http://archive.org/details/Drive-inAndNowItsShowtime-Nightscreen
Well - in comparison to PBO and Sandy Hook - otherwise not so minor - am I excused?
Hmm, not sure Iâm ready to excuse you, 99ts. Are you saying Manchester United arenât on an importance-par with PBO????????
Oh dear - if I have you and UT attacking me I will be torn asunder - but yes that is what I am saying - may someone forgive me.
That Otter loves me - he does - well someone has to
99ts, I got so sick of hearing about Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, I turned the television off. The revisionist history is astounding. I shudder to think of the revisionist story they will weave about the Obama presidency.
I regular beeb watcher, I skipped it totally today. I knew theyâll be rewriting history.
The reality of Nelson Mandela survived the racism and hate of Thatcher - so it will be with President Obama.
Well said, ts. While only white fascists & racists will love these cretins, NM is loved and respected all over the world.
Yes indeed, 99ts! And despite all the racism and brutality he endured, Nelson Mandela never lost his humanity and his capacity to love! Listening to the President today, you come away overwhelmed by his capacity to transcend the silliness and the hate and focus on improving the lives of all people.
Do Man United fans lean towards either Labour or the Tories? I heard today Liverpool fans are very anti-Thatcher.
True …
The President was absolutely brillant today and made an absolutely wonderful, impassioned speech today. I was beginning to think that gun safety was dead. I believe with all the Whitehouse efforts this week including Flotus there just might be a chance to shame these 10/11 Republicans to back down and allow a vote.
They have no excuses as why the new laws should not be inacted. So they fillabuster to try and skirt the issue.
Chat away!

What is this? The MOB?
