        HAPPY MONDAY 57andfemale!

Hope that the family are all having a FANTASTIC DAY! How are the babies doing; Miss Pearl, Nickleby and Kasper, now that the snow has melted?

How is my good friend Cindy doing?

Poor Miss Pearl. A HUGE thunder clap last night - I jumped. I didn’t even know it was raining. She went from zero to 200 on the anxiety scale. The house was really hot and muggy but I put her thundershirt on, gave her the Rescue Remedy. Poor baby was so scared……..

Earlier in the day I had to dig Kasper out of the sofa springs - he decided to explore into the depths of the sofa after he’d torn down the underlining. He had his butt in the torn underlining like a sling and his head and paws were eagerly exploring those springs. He’s something else.

            Doing GREAT my friend,

I “woke up” this morning, and was able to do for myself; everything else (worry, complaints etc…) is small in comparison. : )

Time to write a book; Mr. Kasper Explores Couchy Couch : )

Is Nickleby’s medical problems better, now that the weather is some what better?

The days we can ‘do’ stuff are the best………

Cindy, I think Nickelby’s okay. All of them have been irregular eating their dog food, but I think that’s Daddee’s fault - I think he was putting people food in their food and now I’m trying to get them back to normal.

Nickelby seems a little quiet to me, but all his tests are good. he needs his teeth cleaned and he won’t let me brush them so we face this periodically. To me, he’s my baby but I have to realize he’s 8, 9 years old, minimum. But always a baby to me…….

CarolMae has been pushing me to get a decent picture, tweet it and then bring it over here. My Motley Crew!

Be well, my friend. I love our chats.

    ============
    May 12, 2025

Ambassador Daniel Baer, the U.S. envoy to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) held up a new report issued today by the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and High Commissioner for National Minorities as evidence of the dire human rights consequences of Russian and Russian-supported actors in Ukraine.

“We see in this human rights assessment the human toll that Russia’s crimes have taken, creating a climate of fear and intimidation.”

The Human Rights Assessment of the situation in Ukraine was based on several weeks of fieldwork that began in early March and concluded in early April. Teams of researchers fanned out across the country, including in Crimea after the illegal and illegitimate referendum on March 17.

The report includes a number of damning findings that implicate Russia and pro-Russian groups who have been operating particularly in Eastern Ukraine. For example it notes that in late February, violent, organized groups “started arriving in buses or private vehicles, some of which had either no license plates or Russian license plates.”

More at the link in the tweet:

    And, there’s this ….

    May 12, 2025 at 6:21 pm

After over 30 years of exponential growth, the number of prison admissions in this country is going down…so much so that in 2012 it was at a two-decades low.

The author of that piece, Stanford Psychiatry Professor Keith Humphreys, highlighted that as part of an overall trend.

The size of the prison population started to drop for the first time since the early 1970s and has kept dropping since. The rate of annual prison admissions fell to a two-decade low. Politicians on the right and left made common cause against mass incarceration in state after state, cutting sentences, promoting alternatives to incarceration, and closing correctional facilities. For the first time in 40 years, Congress and the President eliminated a mandatory minimum sentence. Marijuana decriminalization and legalization laws swept the land, and the intensity of pot enforcement swooned. Meanwhile, The Affordable Care Act and related reforms made addiction treatment more available than at any time in U.S. history.

Now THAT’S what I’d call “seeing the big picture” on an important issue! Its a veritable collection of baby steps paying off.

There you go. Wading pettily into a discussion that had nothing to do with you and was started and ended hours ago. Did I say Nena couldn’t use Au? No. I simply asked if Au was alternate universe because Au has different meanings and she explained she was using Au, the symbol for gold. I realized I hadn’t heard that outside of a chemistry class and she realized she had forgotten the symbol for bronze. Then Chips and I joked about Man United never getting gold again. That was it. Friendly discussion over. No distress.

But then here you come along, hours later, stirring the pot. Nice try, Dotster.

I am delighted that PBO announced some specifics about what we are doing to search for the girls in Nigeria.
My question is this: Don’t we have sophisticated imaging devices that can detect movement beneath trees and greenery in forests?
or have I been watching too much tv?

I’m hoping we have all kinds of technology and Special Ops teams on the ground in Nigeria and that we will have some good news soon.

“..With the clock running out on the seventh and final round of the 2014 NFL Draft on Saturday evening and the St. Louis Rams holding two of the last eight picks, Rams coach Jeff Fisher turned to general manager Les Snead and team president Kevin Demoff and said, “Let’s go get Michael Sam” — and the NFL changed forever……

…..Late Friday night in Fisher’s office, as the coach met with Demoff and Snead, the subject of drafting Sam came up, and it was quickly dismissed. Yet privately, Fisher was contemplating the possibility that, if Sam remained on the board in the draft’s latter stages, he could simultaneously get value and strike a blow for acceptance and respect. On Saturday, as pick No. 249 neared, Fisher decided it was time to welcome Sam to the Rams’ family. He called Rams owner Stan Kroenke and told him of the plan, receiving a favorable response……

…At 5:48 p.m. CST, the pick was called in, and the war room grew silent. Fisher rose from his seat and walked over to the pair of large television sets in one corner of the room, and scores of coaches, scouts and other Rams officials joined him. A couple of minutes later, when the pick was flashed on the two screens, the room erupted in applause, and Fisher began receiving hand slaps from nearly everyone in his vicinity. A few minutes later, as he paced excitedly around his office, Fisher revealed to me that he’d been privately considering the Sam move for several days. “I’ve been thinking about it,” Fisher said. “Look, he’s a good football player. We’re glad to have him. We got better when we took him. And we’re gonna do everything we can to get the most out of him. It’s exciting.”

It’s also historic — and until about 15 minutes before history was made, only one man had a clue what was about to happen.”

A really novel invention & way to be proactive…….could be a nice gift to donate as well.

“In developing countries, clean drinking water is not a given. According to the World Health Organization, every year, around 3.4 million people die from water-related illnesses. To put it in perspective: That’s roughly equivalent to Los Angeles’ entire population. Accessing clean water often means waiting in line for a truck to haul it to you, boiling it (an energy-hungry option) or running it through a ceramic filter (expensive). But the truth is, more often than not people don’t clean it at all.

A new project from the Water Is Life organization is looking to simplify the purification process with a high-design solution. The Drinkable Book, as it’s called, looks like something you’d keep on your coffee table, but it’s actually a full-on water purification system…..

….Each page is its own little filter that can clean up to 100 liters of water (that’s around a 30-day supply). This means each book can provide a single person with up to four years of clean water. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon and University of Virginia developed a special kind of paper that’s coated in silver nanoparticles, which kill bacteria. “Some socks use silver nanoparticles to prevent fungus from growing on athletes’ feet,” explains chemist Theresa Dankovich, the project’s lead scientist who has been researching this process since 2008……”

I feel the same way about True Detective and even worse, season 2 of True Detective won’t have the amazing talents of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Luckily for me, I have Fargo on FX to tide me over. It’s really great. 10 episodes and Billy Bob Thornton is doing a masterful job. I happily recommend that to you.

FX always has great original programming. I’m enjoying Fargo(Cohen Bros. I believe)…..and still have not decided if I like the “Americans” but have watched every episode of the first two seasons. Justified w/ Timothy Olyphant is pretty great…didn’t like last season thoug( I still have cravings for “Deadwood” on HBO which he was the lead) and “Sons of Anarchy” is one of my favorites. “Rescue Me” (Dennis Leary) was when FX got me watching the channel on a regular basis. If you want to watch a really well written (Mike Judge “Office Space & Alec Berg “Curb your Enthusiam” “Seinfeld”) funny show “Silicon Valley” on HBO is hilarious…comes on after “Game of Thrones”….and on AMC this new series “Turn” about a colonist-turned spy against the British… based in 1776 while G. Washington’s army was almost defeated is a pretty good series. AMC’s “Hell on Wheels” is a good show based on building the continental railroad during slavery w/ Common as a lead character….new season starts in the summer.

I’m really into historical period dramas……. PBS Masterpiece has a show “Mr. Selfridge” about an American business man who moved to London, and opened a department store in the mold of Harrods….it is set prior to WW2 and stars Jeremy Piven, of “Entourage” fame.

          Thanks, LP.

Yeah, Justified, Turn, Hell on Wheels, and Sons of Anarchy are good.

As for Silicon Valley, I have tried and am continuing to try but that show irritates me because I’m all, what the hell is this?! The character with the curly hair turns me off with his douchebag pointless behavior and theorizing. I keep waiting for the laughs and after the show is done, I’m all, holy crap, I just wasted 30 minutes of my life. It’s puzzling to me because the guys who did Office Space, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Seinfeld know how to write good comedy yet Silicon Valley has been falling flat episode after episode.
