President Of The People

Barack Obama

President Barack Obama signs a Memorandum of Disapproval regarding a joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval of a rule submitted by the National Labor Relations Board relating to representation case procedures. The joint resolution passed by Congress is a rarely used oversight tool that allows legislators to block regulatory actions

Philadelphia, PA (March 31, 2025) – This week, following a long court battle, SEPTA will begin running the latest in a nation-wide series of shockingly bigoted anti-Islam ad campaigns paid for by the far-right American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI). The ads, which SEPTA initially rejected as defamatory, suggest that Muslims are Nazis and that anti-Semitism is inherent to Islamic theology. The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled the sponsoring organization a “hate group” and its founder, Pamela Geller, was identified by the Center for American Progress (CAP) as among the ringleaders of an “Islamophobia network” of right-wing funders and activists working to foment irrational hatred of Muslims across the country.

Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) - Philadelphia stands in steadfast opposition to this dangerous wave of hate speech, as have JVP chapters across the country when AFDI ads have appeared in cities like New York, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, and Seattle.

    Morning, afternoon, evening everyone.

In LL news, I’m running my temporary library BY MYSELF this week. The assistant went on vacation, so I’m the only full timer. Which means I can’t leave the building. Which means I get to send my page to pick me up lunch, and get paid overtime. Wheeeee.

Hopefully I’ll get back to writing when I get back home next week. I thought this working vacation would be productive in that area, but I’ve found that I enjoy eating out and drinking on my per diem too much.

        Did I Call It…Or What?!

Last week when President Obama sat down for a conversation with David Simon, I KNEW he was up to something. Today we got the first inklings of what that is:

          Thanks President Obama!

I had a feeling something like this was coming down the pike, when AG Holder was speaking at the Selma Sunday Church Service and he & MLKIII were talking about 2nd chances & voting rights for people who have served their time, etc.

Step by step, our President BO does the work for which he signed up, regardless of what others are not doing.

Smartypants keeps a sharp eye on his actions; from way back she has done a great job highlighting his, AND the DoJ’s efforts and accomplishments. She was the one who first got me keeping an eye on AG Holder.

Yes you did, vcp! I saw the conversation with David Simon last week and to be honest I didn’t think anything about it, I just thought that it was an average conversation with the President. I should have know that something was afoot. I always wanted to use “afoot” in a sentence.

            GA Don.

You’re the TODville commenter who probably has the most insight on the David Simon interview and today’s pardons.

Would love to see your comments (on another thread, this one has about 150 as I type) — I’ve missed some threads, so you may have already done so.

What drives me nuts is that MSM act like star-struck teenagers when it comes to anything Hollywood, yet apparently don’t bother to digest and analyze what was said in last week’s interview — they basically said OMG, it’s David Simon, but didn’t bother to consider how out of whack our prison system is, compared to other countries.

A long but excellent read about Biblical teachings and the perversions thereof by Bob Cesca at the Daily Banter:

    http://thedailybanter.com/2015/03/the-real-meaning-and-context-of-homosexuality-in-the-bible/

“Paul in Romans 14 is especially germane to this discussion:
Then let us no more pass judgment on one another, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but it is unclean for any one who thinks it unclean.”

I don’t feel sorry for IN-tolorana. Those who stayed home got what they voted for. I was listening to Thom Hartman and he was reading off all the things the majority of the people including Repubicans wants which is in the Democratic Party’s platform - raising taxes on the rich, extending medicare, strengthening social security, improving public schools, increasing the minimum wage, etc. However Republicans will vote against their own best interest for the perceived notion that the Dems are more for minorities, against the Bible, for more abortion, and wants to weaken their right to own any gun they want.

Actually most of the outcry is coming from companies that do business in IN. They are afraid of how it will impact their dollar.

Also, social media is playing a tremendous role in forcing the MSM to cover this story. Arkansas passed the exact same law today but because the focus is on IN you will barely hear a peep about it when you turn on your news.

Thank goodness for Twitter, Facebook, Progressive sites and Blogs. We force the media to cover the issues that matter to us!

There was a large rally in the state last weekend but other than people being embarrassed I don’t sense a real outcry from the citizens of that state. I could be wrong and this is just my opinion. :)

    // ………………………

A lot of people in the media miss a story like this because they’re lazy. I’ve seen a couple of articles about the President’s recent commutations and they all zero in on a narrative that was started a long time ago about him being stingy with clemency. All that was required to adopt that narrative was counting.

But if you read the President and Attorney General’s comments when they kicked off the Clemency Initiative, you knew what had held things up in the beginning and what they were doing to change the process. It was inevitable that - before his second term was over - there were going to be some big announcements. Furthermore, if you pay attention to what the White House said about this announcement, you know there are more to come.

Feld says that he was motivated to create the program — run by the CU-Boulder Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship — by a similar initiative, the Global Entrepreneur-in-Residence program, which was enacted last year in Massachusetts by then governor Deval Patrick. In a rare state-led effort to push immigration reform, Patrick used a loophole in immigration law that allows visas to be granted to foreign graduates working in some capacity at a local institution of higher learning, while they are also building a startup.

Unfortunately, one of the first acts of new governor Charlie Baker was to cut the $1 million in funding earmarked for the program — although, after an uproar from the Boston tech community and some goading by North Bridge Venture Partners’ Jeff Bussgang, Baker restored $100,000 of funding – significantly less than the original amount promised.

The Colorado entrepreneur-in-residence program will take applications from both foreign and U.S.-born entrepreneurs for the program’s four spots. However, …………………………………….. //
