The Power Of ObamaCare: Millions Happy With Their Health Coverage

Steve Benen: ACA Scores Big On Customer Satisfaction

When the Affordable Care Act’s Republican critics were making all kinds of dire predictions about the inevitable “failures” of “Obamacare,” one of the charges was that American consumers will end up hating the coverage they receive through the reform law. And for those ACA detractors looking for something, anything, to bolster their contempt for the law, I’m afraid I have more bad news: Americans who received coverage through Obamacare tend to be quite pleased with the results.

Obamacare customers nationally also tended to be more satisfied with their plans bought in 2014 than people who primarily have traditional job-based health coverage – the majority of those with insurance – the study by the J.D. Power market research company found. Politico reported back in November: “A majority of Americans give good reviews for insurance they recently acquired through government exchanges within the past year, a new poll shows. With the second round of Obamacare enrollment set to begin on Saturday, 71 percent said their coverage through the exchanges was good or excellent, according to a Gallup poll released Friday.

“WASHINGTON — When diplomats at the Iran talks in Switzerland pummeled Department of Energy scientists with difficult technical questions — like how to keep Iran’s nuclear plants open but ensure that the country was still a year away from building a bomb — the scientists at times turned to a secret replica of Iran’s nuclear facilities built deep in the forests of Tennessee. There inside a gleaming plant at the Oak Ridge nuclear reservation were giant centrifuges — some surrendered more than a decade ago by Libya, others built since — that helped the scientists come up with what they told President Obama were the “best reasonable” estimates of Iran’s real-life ability to race for a weapon under different scenarios. “We know a lot more about Iranian centrifuges than we would otherwise,” said a senior nuclear specialist familiar with the forested site and its covert operations. The classified replica is but one part of an extensive crash program within the nation’s nine atomic laboratories — Oak Ridge, Los Alamos and Livermore among them — to block Iran’s nuclear progress.

As the next round of talks begins on Wednesday in Vienna, the secretive effort remains a technological obsession for thousands of lab employees living the Manhattan Project in reverse. Instead of building a bomb, as their predecessors did in a race to end World War II, they are trying to stop one….Ernest J. Moniz, the nuclear scientist and secretary of energy, who oversees the atomic labs, said in an interview that as the Obama administration sought technical solutions at the talks, diplomats would have been stumbling in the dark “if we didn’t have this capability nurtured over many decades.” Although Mr. Moniz would not discuss the secret plant at Oak Ridge, parts of which date to the American and Israeli program to launch cyberattacks on Iran’s Natanz enrichment plant, he said more generally that the atomic labs give the United States “the capacity to carry through” in one of the most complex arms-control efforts in history….continued”

Thank you once again, Nerdy for keeping the Obamacare banner and story aloft. It is so important to so many people!

Steve Benen and Paul Krugman have both been relentless on pointing out the merits of the ACA and calling out the RW GOP and DINO false positions on it. Benen, today and Krugman yesterday .

HELP! I desperately need a twitter expert! I accidentally retweeted something to the wrong twitter account (I have my personal one, and one for school). It was a finger twitch and now it is on my school account. I can’t find a way to delete it. I went to the help menu and it said go to the profile page, click on ‘more’ and choose delete, but when I do that I don’t see a “delete” option. It says, copy, embed, block , report but no delete. Can someone suggest something else? I’ve been able to delete tweets from my personal account before but it doesn’t seem to be working. I really need to get this off my account. Any help would be gratefully received.

    • April 27, 2025 at 6:05 pm

Hi Mary, just click the retweet button under the tweet and it will un-retweet it!

    • 79 vcprezofan2
      April 27, 2025 at 6:05 pm

No expert me, but was this originally your tweet, Maryl? I get the feeling you can only delete a tweet that you originated and in that case when you click on the 3 little dots that’s in same line with reply, retweet etc button, ONE of the options is ‘delete’.

    • April 27, 2025 at 6:08 pm

Eg I RTed 3Chics yesterday, if I wanted to un-retweet it and remove it from my timeline, I’d click the retweet button again

Oh! WHEW!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!! i COULD HUG YOU AND KISS YOU!!! MWAH!! MWAH!!! <3 <3 <3 <3!!!!! It worked!!!! (Maybe you could tell????) I can't tell you how relieved I am! This is my second grade class account and I don't think they want to be read Greg Sargent. I will just have to keep my hands away from the keys when I read tweets from now on. Oh my. Can I send you a great big beautiful sherry trifle?? (The only thing I can make decently). Big bunches of flowers??? My first born?? (She really is quite helpful!)??? I was afraid I was going to have to delete the whole account and start over. You are the best and I don't say it often enough, everyone here keeps me sane day after day after day.

        • April 27, 2025 at 6:46 pm

          “My first born”

I think I discovered that completely accidentally Mary, so now if I see a tweet I love I spend my time unretweeting it and retweeting it so it’ll keep popping up!

Any way, thrilled the problem solved!

I’ve done this myself and it’s a bit hair-raising. One of the features I hate about twitter is how you have to log out of one account and log into another account. You should be able to just toggle back and forth. Or maybe that would cause even more problems trying to keep the two entirely separate?!!

I try to just use the school account at school and the personal account at home, but I was just taking a break reading through TOD after school and my finger accidentally twitched and retweeted. :P

A woman invited some people over for dinner. At the table she turned to her six-year-old daughter and said, “Would you like to say the blessing?” The girl replied, “I wouldn’t know what to say.” “Just say what you heard Mommy say,” the mother answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, “Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?

A 5 year old boy was sitting down to eat when his mother asked him to pray for his meal. He replied, “Mom we don’t have to. We prayed over this last night.” His mother had prepared leftovers from the day before.

Caught in bold-faced fundraising lies, Elizabeth Warren has quickly moved the goalpost. After arguing for months that she is trying to stop a “secret” deal that turns out not to be a secret to her at all, Warren is now demanding that every write and rewrite of every section - and from what I’m gathering every email and text message - must be done in the public theater so she can better use the mob mentality of the ideologues.

Is this the same short-sighted dope who canceled the buses that would have taken kids home instead of into the street?
And short-sighted is giving the benefit of the doubt to whoever is responsible for making it easier for children to not go home and instead of following their normal routine, left in the streets?

If I am a parent of one of the misbehaving kids I’d like to know why my child couldn’t catch his/her usual ride home to safety!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, this is not a bad idea. Would have been better if it had happened earlier in the Ferguson situation. The situation is not pretty, and once again a part of the problem appears to be people who are taking advantage of the legitimate protests to further their own agendas. And in some cases, that agenda is to go after police.
