.. Rep. John Lewis and former First Lady Laura Bush
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Scheduled to open in 2015, the museum will be the only national museum to be entirely devoted to African American life, art, history and culture.

1st? 2nd? 3rd?
First time being FIRST !!!!
Fabulous First! Congrats sabreen! :-)
Thank you, thank you. I’m doing my famous curtsey. Ooops. I can’t straighten up.
Careful there! Y
You can lean on me. We’re family; we take care of each other! :-)
Yay sabreen60!
Me me!!
Ah, a satisfying second! :-)
SECOND!!!…:D….Obama2012!!!!
roh, third place is nice!
Oh that look on the President’s face when he looks at Michelle. Pure love and respect!
I know! It’s melts my heart.
POTUS and FLOTUS always make each other laugh. Anyone notice that they even hold their hands alike. I’m not talking about when they are holding each other hands, but when they stand their and they have their hand together, they hold them alike. Just something I notice.
OOOPSSS Third!!!…:)
Think of it as “Thrilling Third!” :-)
My stream froze so I gotta restart. Is it my imagination or is Laura Bush, Mrs. “Mitch and Jeff Please Run!!!” also there? ugh.
And she sounds like a talking lump of wood.
Can someone explain why?
I believe I read somewhere that Mrs. Bush is on the Advisory Board and her husband did help to get the bill off the ground. Maybe I will do more research on this. However, as always FLOTUS and POB were very respectful to her which I feel that they would not do anything less than that. That is one of the precious things that I love about them, no matter how hateful others are to him. He still moves on for the sake of progress and goodness for others and still holds his head up high and let them know that he is, President, Barack Obama.
“My name is Barack H. Obama, and I am the President of the United States.” HZ
I was not a fan of Mrs. Bush’s husband, but I always showed her respect. The hate fill right wingers doesn’t show Mrs. Obama the respect owe her. They are down right nasty and racists.
But that is okay we love and respect Mrs. Obama 100%. She is the best.
When I read “My stream froze so I gotta restart.” I thought. Woah….Lisa has a penis? Lisa is peeing? We need to have a conversation Chica.
Funny woman! :)
Ok. that pic goes as my 2225th PBO pic in my ‘puter.
Damn that kenyan and nrs kenyan.
Cannot tell - is that a coat over a dress that FLOTUS is wearing? Wow! Just beautiful color and style.
Third pic has your answer - coat! Gorgeous, just gorgeous!
They don’t have the dress up yet, but I am sure they will shortly.
http://mrs-o.com/\
Sigh. what a great couple.
45% of ‘murikans are fucking maroons and nincompoops.
Oh my goodness! I’m overcome with the enormity of this moment in history. Look at My President, look at My First Lady, look where they ARE! Chills!
Rep. Lewis must be constantly pinching himself that he’s lived through the history he’s seen. Wow - it always hits me whenever I see Rep. Lewis with President Obama just how far this country has come in just one lifetime. Amazing. And it must be well-guarded.
And it must be well-guarded….
***************************************
against the onslaught…..
we must be ever vigilant…because those on the other side do not sleep…
latest attack may come from the Supreme Court over Affirmative Action and the Voting Rights Act…

That wasn’t a speech, that was a prayer. Just beautiful.
THIS!
Spoken directly from the Soul.
They look like a million bucks :-D .
Laura Bush is looking at our President with lust.
Can ya blame her?
Doesn’t everyone?
Not everyone Pam.
Hey, good on Laura Bush for being there…does anyone know what her connection to this project is?
Junior signed this in to law in 2003. Maybe that is why ?
Didn’t know this; makes sense now!
Here you go: http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Former-First lady-New-Gig-82671572.html
Hope it comes through.HZ
Linda, why would Mrs. Bush look at POTUS with lust? She has her man, like him or not, she has her man. I thank Mrs. Bush for attending.
Same here. Good to see her.
ROTFLMAO @ gopolitico’s ten ‘white’ knights..

I am all chocked up watching these beautiful kids…They made sure to get a hug from our first family..it seems nothing else really mattered.
What a wonderful era to be in….God Bless them
Have a wonderful Day:-)
Kasai, I cried as I watched those two beautiful young people come across that stage. They wanted their hug also. So precious. These young people are why we are here on TOD to help keep POB and FLOTUS in the Whitehouse. We need to make the vision that POB has for all of the children in our nation a better future to look forward to and be able to live out their dreams.
A very happy moment in history we were a part of today. Thank you, Mr. President and our beautiful First Lady.HZ
Our POTUS and FLOTUS look wondeful!!!! :)
Yes indeed they do look wonderful.
I AM SO THRILLED TO SEE AN AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MUSEUM AND ESPECIALLY WHERE IT IS LOCATED…IT’S ABOUT DARNED TIME! I HOPE I GET THERE ONE DAY TO SEE IT!
Me too Sue, Me too Sue.
Hey, Chicago has a good museum too. I think it’s great.
It Don’t Matter to (Conservative) Women
by BooMan
Wed Feb 22nd, 2012 at 09:52:45 AM EST
In my experience living in western Michigan, many Republican women in the state are truly single-issue voters. They oppose abortion and won’t even consider voting for the Democratic Party despite being aligned with them on most issues. That’s why I’m not surprised that Santorum’s positions have not created a gender gap among the Republican electorate in Michigan.
Among Republicans in that time period [since December], Santorum has shot from 37 percent to 70 percent favorable.
There’s evidence that Santorum’s comments about social issues may not have hurt him so far among women.
The former Pennsylvania senator has been unapologetic in his opposition to abortion and his concerns about working moms, women in combat and contraception - some of the many examples he cites while making the case that he would draw a clearer contrast than Romney against Obama.
http://www.boomantribune.com/
I am in love :-)
Hi TOD family. I want to ask a question…does anyone else have “spouse” issues with your President Obama passion? My husband is a great Democrat, but he does get irritated with me when I get upset about issues (right now Santorum, women’s birth control) and every night before I go to bed he asks me….are you on that Obama Diary blog…again. I admit, I am addicted to all things Obama, and before I go to bed I must read all my Obama Diary entries for the day. I must have an addiction, but what is one to do!
Just tell him you love him, and Yes, you are on TOD, as we need your energy here to add to the wind under the wings of PBO~VPB re-election. Plan something lovely to do in November, just the two of you…..
Oh, carla…my husband, too, gets a wee bit annoyed with TOD, not from any jealousy issues, but because even he as a staunch Democrat (like your husband) thinks we’re all a wee too star struck, overly emtionally invested, whatever. Maybe Mr. Carla and Mr. AJ can form a TOD Husbands Association or something. ;)
LOL….I better add my husband to that Association.
Symmetry11, Here is the answer to all those Husbands that can’t take the time you spend in the TOD community. I know a fact,As a old Trucker who has learn a thing or two in this life’s journey with all the fuss you ladies and my wife make over Our President and his style ,Tell those jealous husbands remember the facts are you all may spend a lot of time reading on TOD about him ,but you are right there with them and the President is home with his Michelle. You see if Mamma is Happy I will always be Happy. You see my wife turned me into a TOD Family member. I read everyday two and both have laptops to keep up at all times. So Guys stop worrying a lot of JOY in Ladies life makes for a very happy home I know 3 loving sons and a wonderful Wife who has put up with my roaming work life for 53 great years. SO PRESS ON ! YES WE CAN DO IT AGAIN
Thanks, @wesleya17!
MEN! My husband pretends he doesn’t “get” what all the fuss is about - especially with “wet PBO” in 4 BIG pictures as my screen saver. They’re so cute aren’t they - poor little jealous fellows
I don’t have a problem with my wife, but she occasionally thinks I should be spending a little more time with her than here. Isn’t 10 minutes a day at dinner enough?
       You and amk are some team!
Chips, where do I send an email to you?
You can send the email to [email protected]
Heh…
Me thinks 10 minutes is too much, ok ? Donit bracket with japa.
Chips, don’t I get a “hi ho” for being first?
Oh yikes, sorry Sabreen, I was tied up posting photos! Will this make up for it?
:D
Oh lordy!!!!
Bless your heart! I know you’re busy. You are awesome and all that you do is so appreciated. This picture - I’m swooning!!! If he looked at me like that my heart would stop.
japa21, thanks for the laugh, 10 minutes a day at dinner. If that was true, japa21 I imagine you would be cooking your own dinner and eating it alone. Thanks for the laugh.
My husband has huge crush on FLOTUS, so we’re even
He better never. Some things are sacrosanct. This President, this place…are two of those things :)
I have exactly the same thing going on here Carla. In addition to all you said about the ranting on certain topics, my husband gets a bit annoyed when he tries to tell me some juicy piece of news and I already know all about it because I read it on the Obama Diary. Yes, it’s an addiction.
Good Morning TOD
Love the hug for FLOTUS…….. that’s a keeper.
Here’s a god article to start your day…
NOW Do You Think There’s No Difference Between Parties? by Norbrook
http://cendax.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/now-do-you-think-theres-no-difference-between-parties/
Outta here, keep the fires burning, will peek in…. ;)
Did anyone see the View? That Right Wing hater (Elisabeth) doesn’t think the President should be singing and partying till every American have a job and the gas prices are down. Just when I think I couldn’t dislike that woman anymore, I learn that oh yes I can. I sent her a email.
Does her loser football husband have a job or is he still Mr Mom ?
She’s such a twit. Yes, I know: “if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone…”. But that doesn’t make her any less of a twit.
That whackadoodle is insane. Everything is PBO’s fault. It’s so weird to think that she came from a family full of liberals who support PBO. Heck her children are in loooooooooove with PBO and FLOTUS. It must burn her up to know that GWB is still being - rightfully - blamed for the economic mess and PBO is getting mad love.
It must also burn her up that pretty much her entire audience is full of Obama-lovers. She’s having no impact.
The right wingnuts must have sent Elisabeth the playbook, she even tried to place blame for high gas price on POTUS.
I am sure that she castigated Bush for being at a birthday arty for McCain and having a great time while NOLA was drowning. Sure she did. What…she didn’t? Gosh, then she must be a hypocrite. But then she is a Republican so there is some redundancy there.
That’s the first thing that popped in my mind.
me too.
Elisabeth didn’t have any problem when we were in two wars and our soldiers were being blow to pieces and the Bushes had dinners. She is full of alot of crap like all the Obama haters.
Anniebella, the exact same thing came into my mind when I heard Elizabeth speak those words. Elizabeth has issues with POB, and she will not change anytime soon. She is a blame everything on POB. I can’t stand her, and I turn the program completely OFF when those remarks of that nature are spoken. She is a ‘low information’ person with unnecessary and not so kind remarks. Her time has passed. We will give her more to talk about on Nov. 6,2012.HZ
good on ya, anniebella, for taking the time to e-mail that pea brain. How did the rest of the panel react to her “smallness”?
I’ve eaten heads of lettuce that had a higher IQ than Hasselbeck
Priceless! (and probably accurate, too). :)
I don’t watch that mess but I have to say it’s a horrific shame that where we see art, talent, life and celebration, people like her see “party.” This event was about honoring a deeply American tradition, one that has been emulated over time and across cultures. It’s a source of pride for our nation, not cheap political slings and arrows. People need to grow up with this game they’re playing.
Thank you, Meta. That is why I wrote to Ms. Walters and Ms. Goldberg about informing Elizabeth about the importance of why this night in celebration of the Blues in America has played in our country. I hope my words will reach the heart of Ms. Walters and that she will share with Elizabeth.
Where is the educational encouragement from others who share and cherish this format of the Arts in our country and should be taught and appreciated by everyone.
Elizabeth’s comments were so out-of -touch with the realities of true American values, and I take deep regret to see so many people be so dismissive of the Arts.HZ
Yeah, and I think everyone should stop watching the View until the economy is perfect AND elisabeth is no longer on the show.
Here, here!!
And it’s okay to write to the network, and to the advertisers would be a plus, why you will not watch The View.
Basically what she’s saying is, “folks I got nothing. So I’ll start in on the blues festival at the White House….Which by the way I watched in its entirety and will do the same thing next Monday.”
Romney Endorser Corrects Mitt On Auto Rescue: ‘No One Could Have’ Saved The Industry Except The Government
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/02/21/429279/romney-endorser-corrects-him-on-auto-rescue-no-one-could-have-saved-the-industry-except-the-government/
I am seriously starting to wonder if Romney will be the nominee. Nothing seems to be going right for him
I wish this museum was opening this year. Man 2015 is so far away.
Btw, it will have the casket of Emmett Till.
That last sentence hit me in my stomach. That story of Emmett Till is one of the most disturbing stories I’ve ever heard, and the fact that he will be honored in this way, and that the first Black family in the White House was there to break ground on the place his casket will rest - it’s just astounding and yet heartbreaking, at the same time. Those who perpetrated their hatred on him are buried somewhere that only their racist relatives know. This young boy will be remembered by millions, including President Obama and Michelle Obama. Wow.
I agree with your comment. Emmett’s story, when I first read about it and watched the documentary, made me angry, sad, and motivated.
Emmett was one of the sparks for the 1955 bus boycott. He will never be forgotten, poor baby. He was only 14 years old.
When i hear some people talk about how great this country is, how it was founded on religious values, I think about the way my people were treated, is that religious values? I think about the four young girls in church and that church was bomb and kill those girls, and yes I think about that 14 year old boy who was drag out of his bed, beaten and hung because he suppose to have whistle at a white woman. His body toss in a river. How many more Emmit Till were there, that no one knows anything about. Some may disagree with me, but I’m going to say this anyway. That is why I understood some of the things Rev. Wright said about America.
I’m with you 100% annie. I knew Emmitt and knpw Rev Wright personally. To fully understand one needs to hear the whole sermon.
Here’s an uplifting story to start your day
Treating Cancer in Dogs and Kids
Dogs seem to be used in so many new ways these days, treating PTSD, helping sense when a seizure is coming, an now this. We all gotta pet our dogs and find a treat for our harry friends….
http://www.whatisworking.com/2012/02/treating-cancer-in-dogs-and-kids.html
I have proof of this. People thought we were insane to adopt Nickelby (a cairn/silky terrier mix) when our Pilgrim (yorkie poo) was elderly. I may not be good for much but I pick the right dogs at the right time. Nickelby and Pilgrim were instant friends. We did not know that Pilgrim had insulinoma. He had a seizure that Nickelby saw and he ran to get me. From then on, he would hover around Pilgrim before a seizure. He added so much to Pilgrim’s last months. He’s such a great dog. He now has Kasper (Maltese bichon mix) and 7 year old Pearl, a yorkie we just adopted after she was chucked out of a puppy mill.
OK, catching up on all the good news, but now it’s time for blog pimping. My new piece is now up here: http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2012/02/post-truth-america.html. Not my usual sunshine, but I was in a cranky place yesterday.
will head over there now, LL,. Hope you don’t harsh my buzz; I just finished reading the last thread and everybody added love and laughter to my day. Seriously, this place is extremely therapeutic!
Cranky is my default mode, so I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. Heading over now.

They have to know we get it and they need to be very direct in attacking the oil & gas special interests not only for obvious greed but for all the damage they have already done and continue to do to our economy and, now, largely to try to defeat a President that they know, in his 2nd term, is going to bring some real hurt to them - long overdue and much deserved pain.

another page of links to key issues, it is a small page but at least it is a start. As I read all the wonderful posts here I am confident I will add more resources.
These two children will remember this day for the rest of their lives. What a wonderful memory to have.
Those children are so friggin’ spoon-eating flat out adorable. And yes, LL, what an indlible memory this will leave.
Chips, OK, now Mick Jagger is on to you:
You rock, missy!!
Ah crikey Meta, that’s beyond stupendous!!!!! Never did I imagine being, um, tweeted by Jagger!!! Thanks Meta!
I know, right? The must feel kinda crazy!!
Wow Chips!!!!!!!!! So fun!
Chips, next time you have a video like this that all the news agencies poach, you should imbed subliminal images that say: Politico is Evil. Huffington Post is a cow paddy. Or something clever from the depths of your brilliantly devious mind.
Hahaha. 100% concur.
Good luck, chuck, ‘handling’ chips now.
Chuck: No luck needed, amk. Chips is a model client, a joy to work with, a pleasure to represent, she’s just an absolute delight. Her smile fills my heart with elation, her even temperament, intelligence, sincerity, determination - not to mention gobsmacking beauty - making every day a treasure. She’s just awesome really. And modest too.
Chuck, you should be representing Carlos Tevez. He needs all the help he can get.
Who’s “Chuck”?
The agent Chips had to get after Mick Jagger tweeted her video clip of PBO singing last night. She’s famous now, you know.
Just realized I missed the first thread this morning, and the emergence of “Chuck”. Now I’m all caught up!
Ungrateful clients. “chuck” will learn his lesson.
Chuck: LL, if you don’t mind, it’s Ms Chips from now on, okay? Show some respect to my client.
Just to update you all, Ms Chips’ Vogue photoshoot went well:
Although the door on the car has jammed and she’s been stuck in there for the last six hours.
Does anyone know how to open the doors of a pink car?
Ha.
Useapinkkey,orcallapinklocksmith!
Tell her to go out the other side.
Chuck: Hello LL. I’m too busy at the moment to represent Carlos, I have my work cut out trying to keep this guy in employment:
Thanks, now I have to turn the hammer on my head.
@ chuck: That’s what you think now. Just wait till she gets invited to 2012 inauguration.
Chuck: Well, I’m a Santorum supporter, amk, and there’s no way in heck he’s going to invite her along when he’s inaugurated, or to any of the balls where he’ll dance with Mrs Santorum probably to the strains of ‘No Woman’s Birth Control, No Cry’.
LOL. You’re too much, chips.
It’s 10’o clock in birt sert land and that a good hubby I am, I’m going to hit the sack just as my wifey ordered me to.
How old is Mick Jagger? 75. He dance across that stage like he is 50.
And now, for your occasional dose of science geekdom:
Can someone get on the ball and invent warp drive so we can visit these worlds??
Story here: http://idealab.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/hubble-finds-steam-world-like-no-planet-we-know-of.php?ref=fpblg
Liberal Librarian…I went to your blog posting, I tried to post a comment but for whatever reason google would not let me sign in.
Here is what I tried to post in regards to your article:
Good Morning LL -I’m over here from the TOD. I agree with you. What is happening now would not happen if we still had the likes of say, Walter Cronkite. Not sure what constitutes as a journalist today. Is Morning Joe a journalist? We have talking heads that talk out of there you know what’s. Where is 60 minutes doing an investigation of the incivility, outright lies going on now. Assassinate a man’s character, then it doesn’t matter if he kills Bin Laden, he is still “a son of Islam”, saves the American auto industry, he is still a socialist. They don’t talk about issues, its all to paint Democrats and our President as enemies of the real America. But what does frighten me is the vitriol that will feed the unstable right and may contribute to the use of violence against our President. President Obama is being delegitimized, painted as a son of Islam, and not one of us. Those are code words to the wakos, save our country, take out this impostor by any means necessary. That is what frightens me.
I think that’s why I was so seething yesterday. The disrespect afforded this man isn’t based on policy; he’s done nothing but continually improve the country. It’s solely because of who he is and what he represents, which is a threat to their interests. Character attacks have always been a part of US politics; the difference now is that it’s all that the GOP has. They know if they run on policy they’ll lose. They’ll also lose if they run on character, but that kind of campaign heightens the vitriol.
It’s solely because of who he is and what he represents, which is a threat to their interests.

THISSSSSSSSSSS!
Think of the spas they could open on a planet like that. And power plants. Let’s go.
:-)
{{{Raising my nerdy hand}}}
I read that story yesterday and it had me giddy with excitement. By the way, on the issue of warp drive technology, sadly the research that was being done through the NASA Breakthrough Propulsion Physics (BPP) Project got killed due to lack of funding in 2008.
http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/bpp/index.html
I too hope someone pick’s up the ball and moves it forward.
Wow, I had no idea NASA had been looking into warp drive. Now I have to go read the link and mourn what could’ve been.

Serious satire: ‘It is the purpose of the General Assembly to assert an invasive state interest in the reproductive habits of the men of this state’
By Laura Conaway
Wed Feb 22, 2025 11:04 AM EST
The Republican march against adult Americans’ right to make their own decisions about really private matters remains so unbelievable that parody has become a legitimate legislative response. Oklahoma got the “Every Sperm Is Sacred” protest amendment. Virginia got a measure to require prostate exams for Viagra prescriptions.
And now Georgia State Representative Yasmin Neal has a bill that would ban vasectomies. After a Republican lawmaker introduced a bill taking away women’s reproductive rights, Neal decided that fair is fair. I typed out what she says in her announcement video, because I think it’s worth reading the whole thing:
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/22/10477692-serious-satire-it-is-the-purpose-of-the-general-assembly-to-assert-an-invasive-state-interest-in-the-reproductive-habits-of-the-men-of-this-state
Well done, Representative Neal! I’m sorry I would love to have seen the fireworks at the townhall meeting earlier this afternoon! :-)
Those kids will never (hopefully) have to live the life that will be represented at that museum - but they will benefit from the struggles that will be represented at that museum. This picture is just awesome - the present and the future, honoring the past.
The pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action is using Mitt Romney’s stance on the auto bailout against him in a new Michigan ad the week before the primary.
“His message was clear: Let Detroit go bankrupt,” the ad says, quoting footage of Romney talking about the bailout and stressing his personal gain from his private-sector work. “Are those the values we want in an American president?”
http://www.politico.com//blogs/burns-haberman/2012/02/proobama-super-pac-hits-romney-on-bailout-stance-in-115200.html
Bill Burton put out a pretty good ad!

POTUS has a cute look on his face. Don’t worry POTUS, they won’t ask you to sing.
I have two boys - and I love my boys! But that little girl is simply, simply beautiful! Very sweet. Love pics of the kids with FLOTUS & POTUS.
Chris Christie on tax fairness: ‘Shut up’
By Steve Benen
Wed Feb 22, 2025 12:30 PM EST.
Piers Morgan asked New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) last night about Warren Buffett’s calls for tax fairness, and not surprisingly, the Republican governor didn’t seem especially receptive to the idea.
“Yeah, well he should just write a check and shut up,” Christie said. “Really. And just contribute. I mean, you know, the fact of the matter is that I’m tired of hearing about it. If he wants to give the government more money, he’s got the ability to write a check. Go ahead and write it.”
Greg Sargent explained, “It’s kind of remarkable that Republican officials in positions of real influence and responsibility continue to repeat this silly line in public without any apparent sense of embarrassment.”
Let’s try to walk through this really slowly. The problem that Buffett and other wealthy people are trying to solve by calling for higher taxes on their class isn’t simply that they as individuals would like to be contributing more towards the tax burden, but can’t. Rather, the problem as they’ve identified it is a society-wide one: We need a massive boost in revenues to keep society functioning at acceptable levels and to address profound and intractable fiscal problems that threaten the country’s future.
This problem will not be solved if Warren Buffett writes a check. Buffett’s point is that the scale of the problem requires his class as a whole to chip in a bit more to solve it.
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/22/10478318-chris-christie-on-tax-fairness-shut-up
Chris Christie is a vile bully. No redeeming factor at all.
He has no class at all. He’s rude, he’s ignorant, and he’s a bully.
No class at all
Christie has no clue how our tax system works with that comment……
What Buffet is talking about is increasing REVENUE…
By ” Just writing a check ” like Big Mouth is saying does not do a thing for Revenue…….
If a citizen wants to DONATE to the Treasury of the United States…the money is only allowed to go to Deficit Reduction, PERIOD.
We need Revenue that can be SPENT .
I didn’t know this - great information!
Woot, the video’s on the WH YouTube page now!
(And needless to say, it’s MUCH better quality!)
PBO is just damn right cool “dammit”- so, haters-hate on w/yr “phony” hate. The man is all around cool and there’s nothing you can do about.
Love is the only way… :)
Pres. Obama campaign announces co-chairs
The Obama campaign has released a list of 35 campaign co-chairs who will act as key surrogates and ambassadors.
The co-chairs are a diverse array of Obama supporters — including former Republican senator Gov. Lincoln Chafee (now an independent serving as Rhode Island governor), former Wisconsin Senator and progressive darling Russ Feingold, former White House chiefs of staff Rahm Emanuel and Bill Daley, Caroline Kennedy, business executive Penny Pritzker, Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solmonese and actress Eva Longoria, among others.
“The president’s national co-chairs will be tremendous assets on the ground as we build the biggest grassroots campaign in history,” Obama’s campaign manager Jim Messina said in a statement. “They each share the president’s vision for a future where every American can have a fair shot at success, where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded.”
Full list of co-chairs:
http://www.politico.com/politico44/2012/02/obama-campaign-announces-cochairs-115161.html
That explains why Russ Feingold was singing the President’s praises this last week. I hope he keeps his head during the campaign, and doesn’t veer off message. Glad to see Eva Longoria there, too. She’s effective.
Feingold ‘schooling’ the President on his lack of purity in 3….2…1…
They couldn’t find a real supporter of President Obama as a national chair? He’s already on record with a righteous rant asking the President to forgo the super pac and lose with purity.
If you look at Feingolds record he’s not the pure progressive he pretends to be. He’s tone deaf to the realities of politics.
He’s a real supporter as of right now. If he screws it up he’s only going to get embarrassed. The President and his team know what they’re doing.
Where’s my name? I looked hard for Anniebella. :(
Oh. My. God. For all his preening about his faith, Newt knows little about Catholicism. From TPM.
For those of you who are not Catholic or lapsed-Catholic, yes, Ash Wednesday is a Holy Day of Obligation where the faithful Catholic is required to go to church.
Freaking moron.
What an idiot. It’s the beginning of the most important period in the Catholic calendar! The truth about a person always emerges, and this latest stupidity from Newt really shows us that he’s not serious about any of it. Although, the fact that he annulled a marriage that produced children draws into question the seriousness of the Catholic Bishop who performed that ceremony…
He just doesn’t want the evangelical Right to see him walking around with ashes on his forehead. Coward.
Meanwhile VP Joe, is more than proud of going to mass.
More importantly - PEEPS are now on the shelves!!
It will soon be time for the annual Washington Post Peep show contest. Love it!
He converted to Catholicism to marry his current wife. I think he was raised Baptist. He was some other religion with his first wife, too, I think. He’s no Catholic.
Oh, I know he’s a convert. You’d think his priest could’ve given him a list of days when, yes, you’re supposed to go to Mass.
Little Ms in Pink and Little Man in suit are beyond precious!!!
And - oh look everyone! I’m FAMOUS:
I’m hoping that eventually our cats will lie at peace with our dog. I think he’s almost won one of the cats over.
Awwwwww…..I loves me some puddy-tats and puppy-dawgs. Soooo sweet, if only Repugs and Dems could get along like that.
I know, right?
Love the FLOTUS shoes…especially since I have them in red, navy, taupe, and black. Once I find something I like I have to get it in every color. I’m not much of a fashion dare devil. :)
I had to go back and look. I love that Mary Jane style with the straps.
Is he copying the President again ?
Good grief. The only thing missing was him saying he conferred with the President before making the announcement.
Ok, ever since reading that Sir Mick Jagger tweeted Chips’ video, am I the only one with that song “Moves Like Jagger” stuck in my head on a continuous loop? Anyone? Bueller?
I’ve been singing that song since yesterday! Not tired of it yet, though.
oh, lordy! another confession: looovvvvve jagger!
didn’t i read somewhere (long ago) that it was tina turner who taught him to dance? i always picture her there, with that great smile, just showin’ him how.
now i do!
those children are so precious

NC HBCU Student Summit
Video: http://www.barackobama.com/young-americans/student-summit
US President Barack Obama is proposing cutting the US corporate tax rate from 35% to 28%, and closing loopholes, as part of a larger push for tax reform.
Announcing the plan, the US treasury secretary called the tax code loopholes “fundamentally unfair”.
Republicans also propose lowering rates, but Mr Obama’s plan is thought to have few chances of becoming law.
Correspondents say the president is using the plan to spark a debate on tax reform in an election year.
The plan does not include any overhaul of the individual tax code.
“Our current corporate tax system is outdated, unfair, and inefficient,” Mr Obama said in a statement.
“It is unnecessarily complicated and forces America’s small businesses to spend countless hours and dollars filing their taxes.”
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner also called the current system inefficient, describing it as bad for job-creation.
//
As part of the proposed plan, Mr Obama has suggested lowering the tax rate to 25% for manufacturing businesses and continuing research and development-based tax credits.
While the announcement fleshes out promises made in Mr Obama’s January State of the Union address, it leaves certain key details, like the percentage of a minimum tax on foreign profits, up to Congress.
Correspondents say that the tax proposal - and the deliberate lack of detail in some areas - is a move by Mr Obama to shift responsibility to Congress.
Republicans in the House of Representatives have routinely opposed Mr Obama’s legislative plans since winning control of the chamber in the 2010 elections.

Somebody is about to get taking to the cleaners.
Ind. lawmaker munches cookies to counter Girl Scout remarks
After controversial remarks by one Republican lawmaker attacking Girl Scouts as a radical group that supports abortion, House Speaker Brian Bosma made his feelings clear Tuesday, one Thin Mint cookie at a time.
Bosma, also a Republican, pointedly offered Girl Scout cookies throughout the day and munched them as he presided over the House.
It was a snack prompted by state Rep. Bob Morris, a Fort Wayne Republican who recently sent an e-mail to fellow GOP lawmakers explaining why he had been the lone lawmaker opposing a resolution honoring the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts.
In his e-mail, Morris said he had done “a small amount of web-based research” and had concluded the Girl Scouts was linked to Planned Parenthood— something both the Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood deny.
Morris said that liberal Girl Scout leaders “indoctrinate” girls with Planned Parenthood principles and that the Scouts tout 50 role models, all but three of whom he said are “feminists, lesbians or Communists.”
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-02-22/indiana-girl-scouts/53205262/1?csp=34news&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+usatoday-NewsTopStories+(News+-+Top+Stories)
“a small amount of web-based research” would also conclude that the Boy Scouts of America paid 18.5 million in child abuse claims in 2010.
I swear these folks are stuck in 1954 … “feminists, lesbians or Communists”??? What the heck!
It’s unreal. This Bob Morris is either off his meds or has the IQ of a turtle. Communists in the Girl Scouts? Even Jo McCarthy didn’t think of that one.
They’re pretty much stuck on stupid.

“makesense4tulips”, thanks for posting.
From the article:
As part of the Obama campaign’s “Greater Together” initiative to reach young voters, on Tuesday the team hosted a student summit at North Carolina Central University. The event marks the first of more than 28 others that the campaign will hold throughout the next two weeks at historically black colleges and universities, including Morehouse College, Norfolk State University, Bennett College and Florida A&M University. But in addition to the usual suspects, such as Campaign Manager Jim Messina and White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett, in tow at the Durham HBCU campus was actress Gabrielle Union.
“I stood by [President Obama] in 2008, and that election invigorated me in a way that I’d never really been before about being part of the process,” Union told The Root on why she’s lending her voice to his re-election effort. “I take a lot of pride knowing that my president understands that we are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, and we have a responsibility to each other. He understands that America prospers when we’re all doing it together, when everyone does their fair share and plays by the same rules.”
Good afternoon all you O’s!!!!! What a great getting up day in Otown! Imma a little late hopping aboard the O train today, too much carryings-on singing the blues last nite.

Gov. McDonnell released a statement on Wednesday formally revoking his support for the mandatory ultrasound bill, just minutes before the House of Delegates is scheduled to debate the measure:
The GOP is backpedaling so hard on the damage they’re doing to themselves from taking up the culture war again that it’s funny. However, we won’t let the voters forget.
Msnbc snd CNN are in fact, pushing back on the Social conservatives snd their mean rhetoric!
You mean they’re doing their jobs? Wow, will wonders never cease?
And I thank the women, children and men who stood in silent protest outside of the State House in Virginia.
DITTOOOO
Bashir is interviewing some Black conservative professor and he said that this President may not be a Christian.
This guy is a Jackass!
He did not appear to be very intelligent to me…..
Nope! But we cannot say he is Racist. But he was dumb!
No that guy is what we call a “sambo”.
not an “uncle Tom” at least hid the slaves.
“Sambo” is like a Clarence Thomas mixed with a twisted Tea Party attitude.
Jovie, how could you be so mean to a Jackass? :)
I loved it. Martin kept at him with the facts and he was tying himself up in knots. I love Martin.
He was a what you said. Just a complete jerk. Eyes closed tight “theologian”. A menace to society. And Bashir is now my absolute fave—-he does not relent until he has made clear the complete obnoxiousness and stubborn refusal to think of these kind of dunderhead, rt. wing guests. And all the cutaways are an education in themselves of all the current, preposterous political nonsense.

Oh wow! Did you just see Martin literally skewer the guy from Issa’s all male panel just now?
Boy did he do it!!!
That man was an Ass, I really wanted to reach into my Tv and Slap him real hard upside the head!
He reminded me of Alvin Greene….
Remember him? He ran for the Senate in South Carolina.

I see everyone on twitter is mighty pleased that Bashir is back and are really praising today’s interviews. Bashir is brilliant. He’s exposing the frauds as fast as he can.
We need him in the 5 pm slot … We should tweet MSNBC with this request :-). Tweety at 7 is more than enough :-)
I agree we need Bashir at one of the prime time spots—-he needs wider exposure. I’ll join the tweet brigade to push msnbc.
I agree, we don’t need Tweety twice a day, once is enough.
YES, YES, YES, YES…… Martin Bashir was fantastic today.
We need to post his “CLEAR THE AIR” segment as soon as it is available. It was terrific. He was basically talking about who is a real Christian. He was puzzled by the fact that people who profess to be Christian are not displaying Christianlike behavior. He said in Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich we have A LIAR, A HYPOCRITE AND AN ADULTERER. And he gave examples to prove his point. He basically said that it’s President Obama who is talking the talk and walking the walk. It was beautiful.
One of my favorite songs is “Lift Every Voice and Sing”…what an appropriate song for today. I got to sing it two weeks ago at a community organizing event in Oklahoma City. Singing that song makes chills go up and down me.
The organization has an ambitious socially progressive agenda…over 1,000 people attended on a Sunday afternoon. A wonderful mix of all ages, religions and races. One of the goals of the organization is to overcome divisiveness and help us realize how we are alike and the similar goals we have. That morning our pastor encouraged us to attend, and spoke about how Christ was a community organizer! Never thought of that, but he was…..and people who laugh at that title are ignorant!
Speaking of ignorant.(Newt Leroy) ….I’m not Catholic and know that Ash Wednesday is a Holy Day of Obligation. My sister is Anglican and she was planning her Ash Wednesday when I was with her last week, also trying to decide on what she would sacrifice for Lent. She said one year she gave up “complaining and criticizing” She said she really learned a lot about herself that year.
It’s one of my favorites too. I love the entire song. one of my favorite versions is one sung by Tennesee State:
good morning chips and toddies!
this is the first time i’ve had to skip reading all the comments before speaking up-i am so amazed at the volume and quality of photos and clips and links and conversations going on today! i may not get to read it all before day’s end, because, you know, i have to watch pbo sing over and over and over!
thanks again for this amazing site. it’s truly a lifeline for many of us.
also, last night we watched the film ‘by the people: the election of barack obama’. what an incredible documentary, and what a slice of history! i know we’re terribly tardy in viewing it, but hadn’t found it till now. if there are any toddies out there who have not seen this film-get it now!
not only is it a joy to be there at those precious moments with pbo and the first family, but it’s a reminder of what’s ahead this year. look at those volunteers and staff-they are on task, and focused, and together. i could put my own face in those work spaces, and feel the momentum from that time slip right into the present.
I actually bought the CD. I really is quite good, and so touching. They fought hard for a chance to make things better.
How come we’re not seeing Kucinich out there praising the non-action in Syria? Isn’t that what he wanted for Libya, to the point of threatening the President with impeachment? I’d also like to see Ron Paul asked during the debate tonight if he’s ok with standing by and doing nothing with Syria, since he advocates the US doing nothing to protect anyone in the world, or help countries in trouble. Let them go on the record with the clear evidence of what they’re positions would result in staring the world in the face.
I saw a billboard in Santa Monica this morning saying “I hate war, so I’m voting for Ron Paul”. They have no clue what a Ron Paul presidency would mean to the world, to this country.
A Ron Paul sign in the People’s Republic of SaMo? Funded by a rich emoprog, I’m sure.
The Democratic primary fight between two incumbents for Ohio’s newly reconfigured 9th district took a nasty turn on Tuesday when Rep. Dennis Kucinich accused Rep. Marcy Kaptur’s campaign of stealing his campaign signs.
WTF?
Wow, he’s worse than a joke.
I see Rep. Kucinich is channeling his inner Tracey Flick!
SEVEN STATES HAVE ALREADY PASSED ULTRASOUND REQUIREMENTS
Thanks, Rick Santorum! No, really
By Joan Walsh
===========================
OK, it’s true: Rick Santorum didn’t sponsor Virginia legislation to require that women seeking abortion undergo an ultrasound – and in cases of very early pregnancy, when a fetus is hard to see, a creepy and intrusive transvaginal ultrasound. But seven states have already passed ultrasound requirements for women seeking abortion. The Virginia bill is galvanizing opposition nationally at least partly due to the climate of crazy that’s been fomented by Santorum’s backward candidacy.

LH, I thought the second article about the woman who would have lost her daughter without an amniocentesis was very powerful and brought tears to my eyes. If you have time, please read it. Her comment about turning to her medically trained obstetrician, rather then her local politician, for advice about her pregnancy made me laugh and underscored the utter absurdity of medically ignorant candidates talking with righteous certainty about health issues they know nothing about.
Done. I’d sign it a million times of I could!
Done
Loved listening (often) to President Obama singing. It sounds so good-I don’t know anything about music-but I am thinking he hit it just right. Just the right tone for the blues.
Martin Bashir Clearing The Air

this was great. I had MSNBC on, but managed to miss the whole show.
I agree. Martin Bashir is a truth teller extraordinaire. It almost made me forget that horrid interview he did with Michael (Jackson). C.S. Lewis, “Mere Christianity” I must find that book.
Bob McDonnell Probes Veep Prospects For A Heartbeat
http://www.tnr.com/blog/the-stump/100980/bob-mcdonnell-probes-veep-prospects-heartbeat
Oh,LH, there is sweet justice in Bob McDonnell getting caught in his own web. He wants to be a VP choice, but then panders to the extreme right on abortion, then realizes he may blow his VP chances, then pirouettes to maybe a voluntary ultrasound, then tries to come across as some moderate who will graciously condescend to allow women a tummy ultrasound, then realizes the hornets in the nest he stirred are not satisfied and now he’s just twirling around in confusion and doesn’t want to talk about it anymore. I do truly wish Romney would pick this loser because that would land Virginia firmly in the Obama/Biden column. In fact, any of the Republican governors would pretty much guarantee the loss of their state, even loud mouth Christie.
Rachel Maddow totally eviscerated Bob McDonnell last night. This man’s radical and extreme policies are really scary. The thought of him even being mentioned for VP is horrifying.

THOSE RECEIVING GOVERNMENT SUPPORT ARE THE ONES COMPLAINING THE MOST
By Gary Ater
======================
Why are the Americans that receive the most government support, the ones that continue to complain?
Based on a recent research project by the New York Times, they were able to make the statement that when one looks at the map of the voters in the United States, “The people who most despise government support are the ones who benefit from it the most.”
To understand this statement, all that is needed is a close look at the two maps of the United States shown on the link below to see where the red and blue states are and what parts of the country continue to receive the most government help, and those that receive the least government support.

Obama plan cuts corporate tax rate
By Steve Benen
============================
It seems hard to believe, but the data is unambiguous: we have one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, but the actual income tax paid by corporations “is one of the lowest in the world.”
.
.
The politics of this is trickier than it should be. The White House and congressional Republicans agree that reform is worthwhile, but those loopholes that lower corporate tax burdens are tough to eliminate for obvious reasons — powerful businesses are paying a small fraction of what they’re supposed to pay, and they’re going to hire a legion of lobbyists to keep those loopholes in place. It’s one of the reasons today’s announcement from the administration is interesting, but not expected to make much of a difference of on Capitol Hill.
Still, it’s a debate worth having. The new administration plan closes a series of loopholes, ends unnecessary tax giveaways (including breaks for the oil industry), and eliminates the “carried interest” policy that allows folks like Mitt Romney to pay a lower rate than the middle class.
============================
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/22/10479822-obama-plan-cuts-corporate-tax-rate
They need to include making Lobbying Congress for tax breaks illegal, if they don’t then lowering the tax rate is moot.
I like this!
Energy storage isn’t just for AA batteries any more. Thanks to investments from the Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), energy storage may soon play a bigger part in our electricity grid, and help enable the increased generation of renewable electricity.
Producing renewable electricity is most commonly associated with wind and solar power. Although these power sources are clean and renewable sources of electricity, they can also be unreliable since they don’t produce any power when it gets dark or the wind stops blowing. As these power sources become more important to our energy economy, so does investment in technologies that allow energy producers, such as utilities, to store energy that is generated when the sun shines and the wind blows. This stored energy can then be released as needed, providing a continuous flow of clean energy during periods of high demand or when wind and solar energy is unavailable.
Today’s electricity grid — the interconnected network that delivers electricity from suppliers to consumers — has virtually no storage. The storage facilities that do exist use pumped hydropower, a system that pumps water uphill to a reservoir when excess electricity is available and then lets the water flow downhill through turbines to generate electricity when it is needed. While pumped hydropower storage works well, it can only be located in very limited areas of the country. The 12 ARPA-E projects that make up the Grid-Scale Rampable Intermittent Dispatchable Storage (GRIDS) program are aimed at developing new energy storage technologies that are comparable in reliability and cost to pumped hydropower, and are deployable at any location in the country. These new technologies could enable the storage of vast amounts of electricity anywhere on the grid across the country. Improved methods for storing and dispatching electricity would enable the increased use of renewable electricity generation while maintaining high reliability in electric supply.

Have yet to soak everything in or to check the comments, but wanted to get inn before the thread changes. That little girl was so precious; ran straight to FLOTUS, as has been commented many times before, children know.
The combined choir was beautiful; that is a difficult song to sing, but they were magnificant; I really liked this arrangement and the diverse group.
FLOTUS has legs a mile long (and the cocoa butter has done its job). I always wanted to be at least 5′ 9″ and leggy, but I am not even quite 5′ 4″ (sigh).
Okay; going back to take a longer, closer look. See everyone on the next thread.

Yes. That’s what we’re going to shove the ASPIRIN down!
some f-ing douchebag shithead just called Randi and talked about some docudrama on PBS last night about Billo-the-Clown. He said Billyboy suffered more from the repugs than PBO ever did and that basically PBO can never understand the suffering Clinton went through because of the repug party,”fortunately”, stated the caller, the Oklahoma City Bombing occurred and that’s when people started to recognize Bill as “presidential.” My snide comment: “most of the suffering he endured was of his own fool making. Sticking a cigar in places it shouldn’t be doesn’t necessarily endear Bill-O to anyone.” Fricking ratbastardfucker!!!!!! Good think Randi told learned him right quick! Who the fuck was that bastard? Fricking Clinton. So f-ing steamed I could spit. Bastards. :x Fricking dumbass ratbastard caller :x
I watched some of that last night….it really is fascinating……..
I just love those pictures of POTUS and FLOTUS.
CNN’S ‘NOT TOO SWIFT’ BLITZER JUST REPORTED ON ONE OF THE MOST RIDICULOUSLY STUPID MEDIA MOVES I HAVE EVER SEEN…IN DEPTH ON THE CHEMICAL WEAPONS STORED IN SYRIA…AS IF WE DON’T HAVE ANY EXTREMISTS WATCHING TELEVISION HERE…NOTHING LIKE SHINING A LIGHT ON THE AVAILABILITIES…HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE! HE ALSO REPORTED ON THE NUMBER OF TROOPS IT WOULD TAKE TO CONTROL MONITORING OF THE SITUATION! NEXT?
Are they trying to instigate something? I can’t imagine that they don’t know that they’re putting the country at risk - nobody’s that stupid. Or are they?
I FOUND THIS REPORT TO BE ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING…PLUS THEY REPORTED ON THE TYPES OF GASES BEING STORED THERE INCLUDING MODERN NERVE GAS! HOW DUMB CAN YOU GET?
I DON’T THINK THE U.S. IS GOING TO HAVE MUCH CHOICE IN THIS…THERE ARE 50 SITES AND IT WILL TAKE 75,000 TROOPS TO KEEP IT OUT OF THE HANDS OF ALQAEDA AND HEZBOLLAH! WHAT A TRIP!
I FEEL FOR PBO…THIS IS HELL ON FIRE!
I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHO IS LEAKING THIS SHIT FROM THE PENTAGON!
Someone who is friends with defense contractors. War is receeiding in Afghanistan, President Obama is doing everything he can to avoid a conflict with Iran. SO why not Syria?
With all the issues, now we should be debating whether or not to get rid of the Girl Scouts.
Girl Scouts?

Chris Matthews did another one of his gloom and doom ” Let me Finish ” comments……
His show was wild today.
I put on MSNBC to watch Rev. Al and listened to the ending of his show. Since the whole contraceptive issue, I stopped watching his show. He’s gone all negative now. If I wanted doom and gloom, I’ll turn on Fox, and that will never happen, not in a million years.
A Republican lawmaker in New Hampshire has proposed repealing the state’s requirement to provide insurance coverage for birth control by attaching the measure to a bill aimed to repeal “obsolete and outdated” laws.
State Rep. Andrew Manuse (R-Derry) has proposed the amendment to end the contraception law to a piece of routine legislation clearing older laws off the books, the Concord Monitor reports. Manuse’s amendment, first proposed Tuesday as the routine legislation was being heard by a legislative committee, would exclude both religious organizations, along with private companies that have religious objections, from the requirement to provide birth control.
