Hi. Me again.
I talked to the folks at Pets for Life. They can take Tucker at their East Harlem location for two weeks at a cost of $15/day. I will have to pay the entire $210 once I get him there. They’ll also provide information for taxi that will take dogs.
I think it’s best if I take up LunarSea on her offer because it’s a little longer term than a week or two, and she’s willing to take Tucker. Pets for Life needs to talk to her to make sure that when I pick Tucker up from them, I will have a place to take him.
Chips sent me her number, so I called her and left her a message. I’m waiting to hear back from her. I want to make sure she’s still willing and ok with talking with the Pets for Life folks before I give them her number.
Once I get Tucker squared away, I could go stay with Miss Pat while I pack things up in the apartment and sell what I need to sell. I don’t know what I can take with me to Maine, so I might have to sell some of my things. It’s going to be interesting to see if the landlord will work with me to get all that done.
As for how to get funds to me, I’m going to figure out how to do paypal and then get back to everybody.
I am so sorry I haven’t been able to respond to each individual post. I’m just so exhausted and really trying to make use of the time I have to find a place for Tucker.
Please be patient with me, and thank you, thank you, thank you for all your well wishes and kind offers. Thank you so much. It means everything.
I was saddened to hear about what happened to Hachiko. It’s a clear reminder of how politics has an impact on the daily lives of actual people. So, when I hear people reduce it to a just a game, I’m a bit ticked off. Yes, it is a game, but it’s one that must be taken seriously because unlike sports like football, basketball, baseball, etc, the goals in politics aren’t imaginary. They are real with impacts that so many Americans take for granted. And Hachiko’s situation is a painful reminder of this.
In regards to Paypal, it’s a pretty straight-forward process in signing up. Just as others have said, you will need a bank account in order to use it. And for those who want to send her money, if they don’t already have a Paypal account, they will need to sign up for one, too. I’ve been using Paypal for years and once your account is set up; it’s a very convenient way send and receive money. It’s much better than wiring and most of the time, it’s free.
My thoughts and prayers are with Hachiko. I know of another person who has experienced homelessness in NYC and it’s tough. But, I’m optimistic here. The outpouring of support and offers of help here are absolutely wonderful.
It’s one thing when homelessness affects those who are mentally ill or have major substance abuse problems. Thanks to Ronald Reagan - mental health facilities were closed down all over the country and as a result, the homeless population skyrocketed. But, when you have people who were gainfully employed, but thanks to long-term unemployment, now joining the ranks of the homeless…enough is enough! Is this where we want our country to go? Sorry, if I sound like I’m speaking from a soapbox, but this not only makes me sad, but it makes me angry.
Please let us know when the Paypal account is set-up. I want to contribute what I can.
Sherijr, thank you for the update on Hachiko. I was offline yesterday so only saw this awful news this morning, it is heartbreaking. I wish with all my heart that there was something constructive that I could do for her. She is in my thoughts and prayers and with such beautiful kind people here I know she will be ok. You are all the embodiment of PBO’s vision for America, what a fantastic family you all are. I know there is very little I can offer in material things but please Chipsticks feel free to pass on my email address to her and let her know that if there is anything I can do to let me know.
Hachiko, this seems like an excellent move, especially after reading LunarSea’s description of a ‘place of respite’. It sounds like a perfect spot for both you and Tucker to release all the stress which has built up over these months and years, allowing you the space to recreate your ideas of what you need and want. From there, you will send out to the Universe what it is you seek, and ask how you may be of service, and to allow the answer to come into your consciousness. We will all be honored to offer support during this time, as you will need some level of security, hopefully which will circumvent any feelings that you are a burden for LunarSea. This is such beautiful tome on your life, I am pleased we can be here to stand with you. And with Tucker! He will think he is in doggy heaven! Sounds like it anyway. Blessing to LunarSea, and to Chips and all the TOD family!
This really the best place to be on the web! So many good people here from all over and it’s truly a blessing. Also, I was on Mediaite following a story about Trayvon Martin on The Daily Show and in the comments an audio guy enhanced a witness’ 911 call. Check it out. It’s absolutely bone chilling!
Romney, Who Has Two Harvard Degrees, Says Obama Spent ‘Too Much Time At Harvard’
By Alex Seitz-Wald on Apr 5, 2025 at 11:20 am
Speaking at his Pennsylvania campaign headquarters this morning, Mitt Romney attacked President Obama as out of touch for spending too much time at Harvard, where the president went to law school. “We have a president, who I think is is a nice guy, but he spent too much time at Harvard, perhaps,” Romney said.
Unfortunately for Romney, his attack is undermined by the fact that the GOP presidential hopeful has twice as many degrees from Harvard as Obama. Romney earned a combined JD/MBA from the elite Cambridge, Massachusetts university. That means Romney spent an extra year at Harvard, getting the combined degree in four years, compared to Obama’s three for the JD alone. Indeed, Romney thrived at Harvard by all accounts.
Romney has previously attacked Obama for taking advice from the “Harvard faculty lounge,” even though one of Romney’s top economic advisers is Harvard professor Greg Mankiw.
Romney has also taken at least $32,000 in contributions from Harvard faculty and administrators.
Romney is trying so hard to use the Rovian tactic “I’m rubber and you’re glue…”. The problem is his credibility is in the crapper and people have wised up to that tactic. So far, the risk adverse Romney, is running solely on his “I’m NOT PBO message. He gives no VISION for an America under his presidency. It’s our job to keep it that way.
Romney is an idiot. Rovian tactics may work if you choose an issue or character flaw that makes sense. Saying that President Obama spent too much time at Harvard just doesn’t make sense. Anyone who has read the President’s bio already knows that he went to law school. Everyone that read GWB’s bio knows how much time he spent in college. This is just stupid, IMO. Romney doesn’t even know to USE the Rovian tactic.
I surmise this fool is only going to make his idiocy clearer and clearer the more he runs off at the mouth! Let him spout, he will be is own undoing! I relish the amusement and astonishment ahead! Ass.
that is just so damn heartbreaking.. I personally do not for the life of me know how anyone could have heard his cries for help and not gone out there to help, I realize the fear/ the risk people may have felt.. but I’m frustrated with this as well as the obvious that Zimmerman has literally to this point gotten away with murder. Everyday I’m grateful my sons have lived to be in their 30s.. although I still have one who’s only 12.
brutal is the right word, it is just so awful, I think of his mom and dad everyday and how painful this is for them.. and as far as I’m concerned Trayvon’s loss is a loss to this entire world.
You know one of the things I heard that is just so sad is the fact that Trayvon’s message on his own phone is all that remains of his voice in the world. I think is was Charles Blow that said that.
I, too have a son who is now 35. I stayed scared for him when he was growing up. No parent should have to fear for their kids every time they leave their home.
On March 31st was the 17th anniversary of the day i was shot as a high school sophomore. I’m 33 years old now with 2 beautiful daughters, 15, and 12 respectively once their bdays hit this month, and always recognize that date and pray for other young teens whom were not as fortunate as I, to be talking to you guys today. I always felt that I was blessed and made it an obligation never to forget that cold march evening. I don’t think I’ve ever been that scared in my life, and the good Lord knows what Trayvon was thinking at the moment when someone is trying to kill you, but I know what I felt, FEAR! If I wasn’t a track star in high school, I might not have made it, but I did, and thank the lord everyday for him sparing my family of the possible tragedy of losing there son, grandson, nephew, and for him sparing my life. This is why justice must be sought after!
As much as it would have been great if the person who called 911 had gone out to help, it’s perfectly understandable why she didn’t. She would be putting her own life at risk, too. The 911 caller did the right thing. It’s a total shame that the police didn’t do the same.
i agree, she sounded elderly as well and it might not have been a smart idea to go out there. She was on the phone with them for a couple of minutes and they kept asking ridiculous questions. Travesty, and heads need to roll!
Breaking news: Joan Shaw realized with some horror this morning that today she is 82 years old. Condolences accepted. That, Yardarm756 is *my* awful status, I’m still waiting for news of Hachikol
Happy 82 years young, Joan. Hope your day is very special.
Just finished reading the last thread and gobsmacked at the amount of love, blessings, concern and offers of help for Hachico and Tucker. Please know, Hachico, that I join my TOD family in all of the above.
Happy Birthday Joanshaw! 82 is wonderful, think of all the history you have witnessed and experienced in your life. You are a wonderful natural resource for this country and your perspective is very important so I hope you share it often on this site. Have a happy day and a wonderful year.
Happy 82nd birthday Joan! And congratulations too - you have the distinct honor of sharing a birth date with the late Gregory Peck (To Kill a Mockingbird) also born on April 5th (1919). :):)
Hope you enjoy the rest of your day with festivities, wine and dance!
Think of yourself as a “Foxy Old Broad”. I’m not 82 yet, but that’s how I think of myself. Have a wonderful day. You don’t need condolences. You need congratulations! You have been blessed and may you have 10X10 more birthdays :D
Happy Happy Birthday, Joan Shaw! You are but a youngster compared to the nearly 86 year old lady in my care at present.. Hope you have a wonderful day!
I wrote this comment on the last thread. Of course, while I was doing that, Chips was putting up a new thread, so I am repeating it.
Yesterday, I made a comment about the TOD community being a family, which several people responded to positively. Little did I know that within hours we would be given an opportunity to display that sense of family to the hilt. I was unable to come on line last night due to 5,000,000 things I had to do, so I didn’t learn about Hachiko’s situation until this morning.
But the repsonse to her distressful situation has been astounding and proves the point I made yesterday. I will be following closely to see how and when I can contribute something to help her along. It looks like she will be heading to Maine, and that might provide her with an employment opportunity that has been missing for her.
Unless I am mistaken, my wife says that to herself every day. Fortunately, she has been able to control her homicidal impulses for 37 years. Hopefully, she will continue to do so.
One of the reasons she wants to kill me is because I spend too much time on the computer. May not be the best idea to pass your message along. But thanks for the thought.
My husband, at 72, is just learning the computer and I am immensely proud. The incessant “Why’s” are like teaching a three year old, however. And that’s just normal — that’s not even what’s driving me crazy today.
For his safety I sent him out of the house on an errand. Of course the errands he went on yesterday…..
Guys, I’ve been sitting here in tears as I catch up on the last few posts. First at the shock of hearing Hachikō’s and her Tucker’s situation, then at the beautiful outpouring of love and support from the TOD Family. You guys are great! I’ve gotta find a way to compose myself here at work, ‘cuz ya know I’ve got this ugly cry thing down to an art form.
Anyway, Hachikō if you’re reading this, know that we are lifting you up in prayer, sending you love and peaceful energy. I’ve sent Chips a note about a suggestion for you. Love you, dear. {{{hugs}}}
Hmmm, well I just noticed that my email to Chips was rejected. Do I have the wrong email address for you Chips?
“[email protected]” is what I was using.
Just got time to catch up on the blog and saw all the posts about Hachikō – virtual hugs to you.
I was reminded of a web page I made several months ago.
TOD members by state. I have 3 folks from NY
Mariele K. – Brooklyn
Layell Deroe – Twitter @layellderoe
LDS – Linda Smith – [email protected] – Harlem
One of the nice things about the NY list is it has one name with an email, and another name with a twitter account. That way the folks who don’t want to reveal either have a contact person they can use to coordinate efforts.
This was originally designed to help folks hook up for OFA events, work on local news, or just provide ” friends to lean on” in a Red state. We could definitely expand it to include support for personal situations as they arise.
I think there are several folks who are willing to be part of a support team who don’t have their name on the list.
if you are willing to add your name just post contact info below – name on TOD, state you live in, if you feel comfortable include a twitter name and email address. This page is open to the public.
I will check back later today and update the page, if I miss you or if you need to contact me directly I am at [email protected]
The dems, including Obama, better not wimp out on this winning (and true) issue based on some stupid clintonian triangulation. They better keep repeating the same meme that rethugs are waging a war on women and birth control 24×7, regardless of the poutrage from the thugs and the msm. If they start appeasing these thugs, then they sure are gonna lose 2012.
AMK, not to worry. Pres. Obama has always stood up for women, women’s right, and medical care for women. There is no reason that he would abandon support now. No way.
Don’t be sorry, desertflower. Jed Lewison is doing yeoman’s work in trying to focus the sight on the importance of this election. However, IMO, the site has deteriorated into such a haven for single issue emoprogs, it just might NOT be savable.
P.S. I recc’ed that diary and also left a comment in response to a poster that accused Jed’s diaries as being tiresome and boring. So far, no one has recc’ed my comment. In short, DK just might be too far gone to be of material help in the election.
The site has been very supportive of PBO lately. There will always be farther left commenters who piss us off but the pushback has been impressive and to this scaredy-cat, encouraging. It appears that some of the noisy yahoos from two years ago are waking up. Don’t expect TOD-style love 24/7 but there is a lot more understanding of what PBO has been up against, what the stakes are, and some downright love for PBO and strong support. I want all the votes we can get. And then some.
This is interesting on more than one point. If the SC messes with this ACA, we will indeed know for a FACT that it was ideologically motivated.
The turnaround is noteworthy not because Clement has today adopted different reasoning — it’s his job to adapt — but because both times he’s defending the lions of the Republican establishment. The shift ultimately exposes the inconsistencies in the GOP’s views on federal authority to regulate interstate commerce, whether it be over political ideology or partisan control of the White House.
At the time, Clement even told the court that if it ruled against the government, “It would also, I think, frustrate Congress’s goal in promoting health.”
Jay was asked the question and he gave PBO’s opinion. He did not tell them to do it. There should be no outrage for voicing an opinion when asked a question. Anyone upset with the answer would not vote for PBO under any circumstances.
C’mon now, Bill. They are outraged simply by PBO’s mere existence, much less by any utterances he or his surrogates make. You think a little thing like the context of this particular opinion will keep them from complaining? Really?
The thing is, the only people who would be outraged by this are those who wouldn’t vote for him under any circumstances anyway. The face is, most normal people in this country laugh at Augusta National. It’s nothing but a bunch of old bigoted white guys pretending like it’s still the 1950s. With black people cooking and serving their food and no women folk allowed. They’re pathetic. This only continues to show how PBO represents new America. Not young or old America, but New America. You can be 85 years old and be a part of New American. Augusta National is a freakin’ joke.
What’s thay saying about something biting the dust?… uh, yeh, that one?

PepsiCo Ends Partnership With Right-Wing Front Group ALEC
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/04/05/458781/pepsico-ends-partnership-with-right-wing-front-group-alec/
———-
PepsiCo, the world’s second largest beverage company, has ended its partnership with ALEC, the controversial right-wing group that lobbies for voter suppression efforts. Pepsi’s move, which actually came in January but was first reported this morning by NPR, may also have had a role in compelling Coca-Cola to drop its support for ALEC.
Yesterday, progressive advocacy group Color of Change announced a boycott effort targeting several other corporations that are still members of the group, which for years has partnered with elected officials at a state level to draft and pass controversial, far-right legislation. Just a few hours later, Coke announced that they too are severing ties with the ALEC. As NPR reported today:
It’s part of a much broader campaign to spotlight companies that sell products to a public that might object to hard-line conservative policies such as stand your ground laws or requirements that voters show a photo ID at the polls.
Some civil rights groups say voter ID laws are discriminatory and suppress minority voter turnout.
“The clear and simple message was that you can’t come for black folks’ money by day and try to take away our vote by night,” said Rashad Robinson, director of ColorOfChange.
The sad part is, the cartoon isn’t even remotely funny. The Rethuglicans really don’t care about anyone other than themselves. I hope they stay healthy….
Can I just say that the outpouring of support for Hachiko makes this crusty ex-New Yorker’s heart glad? I was heartbroken when I first read about her plight last night. Again, Hachiko, whenever you’re ready to receive money, let us know.
She’s too far gone. Brazile is part of that DC Beltway crowd that sees this whole thing as a game. I shudder to think what would have happened if the DNC made her the permanent chair instead of Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Good west coast morning Chipsticks & my beloved TOD family!
I went to sleep last night with Hachiko on my mind. I am so happy to hear from her and to read her decisions for herself and for Tucker.
Thank you sherijr for this update.

Just finished reading the last thread and gobsmacked at the amount of love, blessings, concern and offers of help for Hachico and Tucker. Please know, Hachico, that I join my TOD family in all of the above.
Well you tell Joan that she is actually 82 years young.
Make sure it is a great day.
Happy birthday

Happy Happy Birthday, Joan Shaw! You are but a youngster compared to the nearly 86 year old lady in my care at present.. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Hola Joan! Some how I thought you were younger than me but then I tend to think some days that everyone is younger than me. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
A very merry Happy Birthday Joan. It’s amazing how years fly by. May you enjoy this year and find merriment along the way.
Congratulations Joan.
Wishing you many more years with good health and happiness.
Happy BIRTHDAY!!!!! You look marvelous.
That’s our FLOTUS. Man, I am so glad she is our First Lady.
Her duty is from the heart, not because she have to do something just to be doing it. But because she cares.
Also, a safe and quiet respite to clear her head and take a few breathes as she plans her next move.
Happiest of all Birthdays to Joan & hope you are living a wonderful life! Cheers to you!
Chips, I recieved this diary on my email, hurrah!!! Hurrah I say!! Fired Up vieo, the best!
So OT but I need one, quick rant (men need not read).
My husband is driving me crazy! If he lives through this day, it will be miracle!
Now back to our regular scheduled programming…………
lol.. hang in there 57 ;)
Unless I am mistaken, my wife says that to herself every day. Fortunately, she has been able to control her homicidal impulses for 37 years. Hopefully, she will continue to do so.
tell her japa, that we’re all grateful for her restraint ;)
One of the reasons she wants to kill me is because I spend too much time on the computer. May not be the best idea to pass your message along. But thanks for the thought.
haaha! you’re right, keep that one to yourself :)
I’m at almost 32 years and counting. But there are days……..
Steady. Deep breaths. This is what I tell my wife when she gets mad at…on never mind.
Seriously. Don’t go there. Every once in awhile, he can accept the fact that he has done something - my response is not all there is to the problem.
And yes - Oh, never mind. I’m seriously over the rant and I’m cleaning house to channel my irritation into something positive.
“Every once in awhile, he can accept the fact that he has done something.”
I’m up to “more often than not.”
Mine too! What a coincidence:)
Maybe there’s something in the air, ladies. :-)
Spring time.
I am going to change my nym to 51andmale. :)
ha!
Wow…happy birthday joan……God bless you ..
Anyway, Hachikō if you’re reading this, know that we are lifting you up in prayer, sending you love and peaceful energy. I’ve sent Chips a note about a suggestion for you. Love you, dear. {{{hugs}}}
Hmmm, well I just noticed that my email to Chips was rejected. Do I have the wrong email address for you Chips?
“[email protected]” is what I was using.
[email protected]
Thanks Japa!

Happy B-Day Joan - may you have many many more.
Bringing this over from the last thread
Good Morning TOD family
If you could check the page found at
http://www.whatisworking.com/2011/10/tod-participants-found-in-states.html
if you are willing to add your name just post contact info below – name on TOD, state you live in, if you feel comfortable include a twitter name and email address. This page is open to the public.
I will check back later today and update the page, if I miss you or if you need to contact me directly I am at [email protected]
Thanks Linda. Please add me to the Georgia list. City is Snellville
Great alternative use for this page!!!
I would encourage folks to sign this petition

Done. Did it via my email message. Thank you for posting here
done yesterday too, will keep tweeting it, thank you.
Done! Thanks for the link!
thx linda!
Women and their healthcare are now being characterized as “caterpillars” by the RW. What? Do they want to piss us off EVEN MORE????
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/04/05/11035818-rnc-chairman-reflects-on-women-caterpillars?lite
they’ve never cared about women.
Let ‘em keep digging that hole.
New acronym :
W.A.R.
Woman Against Republicans !
:) THIS! That’s even t shirt worthy:)
Perfect.
No way.
grrrr
Sorry, but must read with examples of Romney talking out both sides of his piehole…

And then some.
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/04/how-the-gops-lawyer-paul-clement-helped-defend-obamacare.php?ref=fpb

Buckle up….
PBO said Augusta National should allow women ……..
Outrage in 5….4…3…2…1
Why shouldn’t they?
Well…it is a private club….so I am just expecting outrage from the right saying he is trying to tell a private business what to do.
Really?
For those who are not aware, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are both members though they are not avid golfers.
I think the issue is that the CEO’s of companies that support the club are always invited to become members..
There problem is that now IBM has a female CEO…
*..Their…grr.
Linda you are correct There are only three teevee (CBS) sponsors, IBM, AT&T, and ExxonMobil.
Ha ha ha! That’s my guy! He knows what he’s doing. :-)
More of this!

Didn’t they try that before ?
Gawd….Republicans make me ill.
The sad part is, the cartoon isn’t even remotely funny. The Rethuglicans really don’t care about anyone other than themselves. I hope they stay healthy….
I’m very happy Hachiko is ok. I’ll check in later to see where I can send $
Hi all,
Can I just say that the outpouring of support for Hachiko makes this crusty ex-New Yorker’s heart glad? I was heartbroken when I first read about her plight last night. Again, Hachiko, whenever you’re ready to receive money, let us know.
I’m following donna brazille on twitter and I must say many of her tweets are juvenile. You’re a visible talking head for dems. Use it wisely donna.
She’s too far gone. Brazile is part of that DC Beltway crowd that sees this whole thing as a game. I shudder to think what would have happened if the DNC made her the permanent chair instead of Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Can you guys do me a favor and retweet this? I’m so mad at this weasel.
:) :)
Paging Jovie.
