Nice of this guy to reveal the real purpose the voter ID, aka voter suppression laws. But he’s in for a rude awakening if he thinks this stupid law is going to save Romney’s bacon in PA. OFA has been all over this for months. We are making sure that every voter contacted has a photo ID or knows how to get one. And I can tell you from ‘on the street’ personal experience that PA Democratic voters are hopping mad about the suppression laws and are more motivated than ever to get out the vote.

I’m reposting my last comment because I didn’t see the new thread….

It’s rare that I have a link for Politico on my TL but this is so pathetic….it’s the transcript of the exchange between Romney’s spokerman and journalists. There’s a lot more questions but I posted a few.

Reporters sought to get more clarity from the campaign in a Q&A with traveling spokesman Rick Gorka, but to little avail. POLITICO’s Ginger Gibson sends a transcript of the lengthy exchange [NOTE: this is a rush transcript.

QUESTION: So does he think it’s wrongly decided?

GORKA: “The governor supports the states’ rights to do this. It’s a 10th amendment issue.”

QUESTION: So he thinks it’s constitutional?

GORKA: “The governor believes the states have the rights to craft their own immigration laws, especially when the federal government has failed to do so.”

QUESTION: Does (Romney) support the law as it was drafted in Arizona?

GORKA: “The governor supports the right of states, that’s all we’re going to say on this issue.”

A wise person once told me…”if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything”. Without a core belief, you’ll only reflect the belief of your strongest influence around you…in Romney’s case it’s the money talking.

Just gpt off the phone with OFA/Chicago. Asked a question about Latinos and deportations AND had a suggestion for messaging change for PBO. As I listened to the speech today, and every time he speaks, he says that the wealthy need to help pay down the debt. I think that the messaging on that is not good. They DO, but the REASON why, is not to pay the debt down, but because they have unfair tax advantages that most Americans DON’T have! When people like Romney can keep money in Swiss or Cayman accts….and pay an effect tax rate of 15% while the rest of middle America pays far more…THAT’S what’s wrong! They said they would pass that along

The question is, who will they be ducking and seeking cover from? MITT “WHO AM I THIS TIME” ROMNEY CAN’T GIVE A STRAIGHT ANSWER ON IMMIGRATION REFORM

Romney Keeps Ducking Key Questions Re: Arizona Immigration Ruling

    ——————————————-

According to Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice:

What hypocrisy. Romney claims that President Obama has failed to lead on immigration reform when it is Romney who is failing the leadership test. In fact, he comes across like the school kid who says, ‘I know you are, but what am I.’

The President’s record is clear: 1) he tried to move comprehensive immigration reform but was blocked by Republicans; 2) he fought for the DREAM Act but it was stopped by Republican opposition; 3) his Justice Department sued Arizona even though it was unpopular to do so; and 4) he provided relief to DREAMers in a bold executive move.

Romney’s positions are anything but clear: 1) he says he’s for immigration reform but has yet to articulate anything close to a coherent, comprehensive plan; 2) he says he wants to help DREAMers but promised to veto the DREAM Act; 3) he opposed the litigation that led to key parts of the Arizona anti-immigrant law being found unconstitutional; and 4) he says he opposes Obama’s executive action to protect DREAMers but won’t spell out if, as President, he’ll rescind it or maintain it. Nor will he spell out what and how his secret “long-term solution” for the DREAMers might look like.

Let’s just say that on immigration, Mitt Romney is no profile in courage.

I think people are simple…the majority of Americans don’t want to have to “think” about anything…they need a side by side comparison of what each candidiate stands for, and would enact, if they were elected. Mittens side might be blank, since he won’t say…or it might be a hot mess because he’s flip flopped so often!

Booman has some interesting and optimistic analysis on the ACA ruling. Here is his post and his response in comments. It’s a good read for those of us fretting over SCOTUS ACA decision. Any legal guys who agree/disagree with Booman’s analysis?

    Will ACA Decision Come Today?
    by BooMan
(this is from before it learning that decision should be on Thursday).

…The Affordable Care Act decision could be written by anyone. If Chief Justice Roberts is in the majority, he gets to decide who will write it. If he is in the minority, then the most senior Justice in the majority gets to decide. If Roberts joined with Kennedy to uphold the law, he probably wrote the decision himself. If he joined Kennedy to strike it down, he probably let Kennedy write it. If Kennedy split from Roberts to uphold the law, he also probably wrote the decision himself. So, the most likely authors are Roberts or Kennedy, which means we won’t hear the decision first…

  37. June 25, 2012 at 4:55 pm

So, now Bashir moves up 1 hour, and he has changed? Is that what happened?
    If true, That is sad!

  38. 131 lamh35
    June 25, 2012 at 4:55 pm

So someone in comments wrote that they were nervous after finding out that Roberts wrote the ACA decision (can anyone tell me if this is true?). Booman wrote a longer more detailed explantion of his reasoning:

BooMan on Mon Jun 25th, 2012 at 10:59:29 AM EST

We are almost certain that Alito, Scalia, and Thomas will vote to destroy the ACA in part or en toto. Roberts and Kennedy, however, are the wildcards. Here are three likeliest outcomes.
5-4 to uphold the law. (Kennedy with the liberals)
6-3 to uphold the law. (Roberts and Kennedy with the liberals)
    5-4 to kill the law.

(Kennedy with the conservatives) The ruling could be more complicated depending on issues of severability, but that’s the basic framework we are looking at. Now, if Roberts is going to stay in the conservative camp, that eliminates the 6-3 scenario above. But, as you can see, the 6-3 scenario is the only one where Kennedy isn’t the deciding vote. If Kennedy is the deciding vote, it is very likely that he wrote the opinion. You can maybe say his authorship gives a 50-50 chance. But Roberts authorship is a little more likely if he’s with the liberals in a 6-3 decision. And to go over this a little more, since you claim to be dense, my reasoning is based on how opinions are assigned. Go back and look at the three scenarios above.

If Chief Justice Roberts is in the majority then he gets to assign the opinion. If he is in the minority, then the most senior member of the majority gets to assign the opinion. In the scenario where Kennedy sides with the liberals in a 5-4 decision, Kennedy would be the most senior and could assign the opinion to himself. In other words, the liberals don’t have to woo him. He can choose to write the opinion for the majority simply by siding with the liberals.

This makes it highly likely that Roberts would grant Kennedy the right to write the opinion for the conservatives, too. In other words, if Roberts wrote the decision, he did Kennedy a discourtesy and kind of took his vote for granted. Perhaps he did that, but I take his authorship (which is still uncertain, by the way) as a good sign for these reasons.

  39. June 25, 2012 at 4:56 pm

Is this in effort to distract from the SCOTUS ruling?

        June 25, 2012 at 5:41 pm

Had predicted last Wed., that that was very much the sub-text of Issa’s actions, apart from being really, really upset that AG Holder would not provide them a gratuitous ‘scalp’ of one of his Asst AGs and, even more so, because of his pressing forward on blocking obvious voter suppression efforts.

It would be rather remarkable if they actually vote AG Holder in contempt only to have President Obama pardon him and keep him on the job – which I have no doubt the President would do!! 🙂

If these idiots want confrontational theater they’ll get a dose of it that they’ll never forget. They do have no idea just how pissed most Americans are at Congress and that if anything is to be held in contempt it’s the Congressional #KOCHSTERS

Bain put up $10 million and raised $300 million in junk bonds through Milken while Milken was under investigation. COWARDICE IS AN UNAPPEALING CHARACTER TRAIT

    It wasn’t a trick question

    By Steve Benen

    ————————————–

By one count, Romney’s overwhelmed spokesperson was asked literally 20 times what the candidate thought about today’s ruling, and literally 20 times, the spokesperson refused to say. Even Byron York called the evasion “excruciating,” which is as good an adjective as any.

Remember, all of this follows a press release this afternoon, in which Romney spent 104 words talking about the Supreme Court ruling without taking a position on it.

Cowardice is an unappealing character trait in a presidential campaign, but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that Romney, to borrow George Will’s line, “lacks the courage of his absence of convictions.”
