Thanks for the late threads, LL!
G’night one and all - have to go prepare for tomorrow and I’m already fighting sleep. Have a good Wednesday, when it comes?
Just finished my preparation for tomorrow. I’m outta-here! Ta-ta, and when you settle in for the night, don’t you be consulting with WHPC either.
At least there is passion there, amk, rather than cold-blooded calculation about how to undermine the president and slow the economy. Give me a good old fashion fist fight any day
After just reading that “at least” 9 people were shot in Chgo tonight—-1st warm night—-I then see that a 2 yr. old Ky. girl was shot and killed by her 5 yr. old brother today. He was playing with his 22 rifle he got as a gift. It was kept in the corner. Shouldn’t a parent be arrested for all this horrific foolishness and negligence which resulted in this horrible tragedy?
This has to be a crime on the part of the parents! Why is a five year old getting a gun as a gift anyway?! Are those parents crazy? What’s wrong with these people? Now their baby is dead.Very sad.
And their little boy will have to live with the knowledge that he killed his sister for the rest of his life. The NRA gives the impression that guns are no big deal; everyone should have one. Far from promoting responsible gun ownership, they want to put no restrictions on anyone owning one and the result is one little life taken and one little life ruined. The parents are suffering, but I think they should be prosecuted for child endangerment at least.
” The NRA gives the impression that guns are no big deal; everyone should have one.”
Yes indeed maryl1! I get so tired of hearing gun advocates repeat the nonsense: ” guns don’t kill; people do.” Does any one think this poor 5 years-old boy would have killed his sister if his idiot gun enthusiast parent/parents hadn’t given him a real gun as a present? By the way, whatever happened to water guns as toys?
There are no words, dotster. Only a person with no brains whatsoever would give a 5-year old a 22 rifle. And it was KEPT IN THE CORNER? Is that so the kid could have easier access when he got annoyed at his sister? Or his parents? Yes, the parents should be charged. This is gross negligence and child abuse. It’s no different than hustling your child onto a busy highway and telling him/her to go play with the cars. But it’s Kentucky, so the father of this dead child, will probably be congratulated for “making a man” of his son. Because, after all, it’s the ability to kill, not the ability to think and love, that makes a man.
Alycee, Pilaggi is one of the most corrupt officials in the state and that’s saying something. If this doesn’t get rammed through before 2014, we need to redouble our efforts to oust “One-Term Tom” Corbett so that at least this obscenity would be vetoed by a Dem governor. But we absolutely need a new state legislature. The people of PA are actual “victims” of the state and the legislature is intent on creating maximum harm.
In the meantime we have to guard against the jackbooted attempts by the Republicans in every state to steal the White House once again. For them, only rural votes count because they’re more likely to be white. This really is a battle of good and evil, democracy and tyranny.
Methinks Pres. Obama would have taken that into consideration … in any event, I found this on wiki, and I think it’s “safe,” but I’m too tired to fully grasp it:
The enabling law establishing the FHFA is the Federal Housing Finance Regulatory Reform Act of 2008, which is Division A of the larger Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, Public Law 110-289, signed on July 30, 2025 by President George W. Bush. One year after the law was signed, the OFHEO and the FHFB shall go out of existence. All existing regulations, orders and decisions of OFHEO and the Finance Board remain in effect until modified or superseded.[5]
On the day of the law’s signing, former Director James Lockhart stated:[6]
Good morning everyone. My, how delightfully busy the TOD village was last night while I was off in the land of Nod!
Special note for LL: I love your many contributions here: the intellectual, the humorous, and the musical. Additionally, I was a library-nerd in high school and college, so I appreciate how much you love your job. If I were more like Chips, I would propose!
Off to work; have a great May Day everyone.
The house is the problem, they are ruining America. And the Senate tries, but when they get word from Boner that the House can’t pass it, the Senate runs for the Hills.
Also, Rubio just said that the gang of eight bill will not pass the House. And the House bill does not have a pathway to citizenship.
The President has 2 issues, gun control and immigration to run on in 2014. Now, if he can just get the democrats in congress and the liberal media on board?
Maureen dowd is freaking out on the president again this morning. Saying basically the president is responsible for congress.
Sorry, but she is a Beeatch!
Good Morning…..WOW are you spot on…..Hero of the day…ABC guy who asked PBO if he had enough juice….can just see him doing that to Bush..either one……and second runner up…..Maureen Dowd….new Teaparty hero………those WHPC have missed their callings…hear National Enquirer is hiring….they would fit in so well.
I think the press constantly referring to the fact that PBO was “forced” to diversify his cabinet due to pressure from the press and CBC is unfair - but will be repeated again if he nominates Cong Mel Watts as reports indicate.
I wonder why it is not mentioned that a number of leaders, in the pool from which PBO would be selecting, have been accused of taking actions that compromised their reputation as good public servants
Thank goodness PBO doesn’t give a kangaroo’s bottom what the “press” or CBC claims when making his cabinet decisions. Just like he didn’t give a hoot about the NYT/Mrs. Ezra Klein’s BS about not having women in his cabinet.
Those decisions are made well in advance - all kinds of different folks are vetted before the final is chosen. PBO doesn’t just wake up one week and pick a female or person of color just because person X or Person Y threw hysterics on cable TV.
Wow, the Beltway pundits are beginning to call the President “a Lame-Duck”, 6 months into his second term ???!!!
I’m speechless.
Why is there this absolute inability to recognize that the problem is the radicalization of the GOP and their decision to obstruct everything ?
What enrages me the most is that republican obstructionism is working BECAUSE the media , for more than four years now, has given republicans cover for their behavior.
The media is sooooo out of touch with reality. They tried calling him “Lame-Duck” in early 2010 after Scott Brown won the special election in MA. How did that work out? Where is Scottie now?
The Massachusetts Special Primary is history. I am quite happy this morning. Just a heads up: our Republican obsessed media will try to paint the Republican winner, Gabriel Gomez, as the new Scott Brown. He is a former Navy Seal and he got an amazing 51% of the Republican vote in a three-way race. That’s true, but before you get too concerned, take a look at the numbers. With 100% reporting: Gomez 51% and 96,073 votes - Markey 57% and 309,488 votes. Voter turnout was not great, but that is usually the case in special elections. We still have a lot of work to do between now and June 25th, but Ed Markey’s prospects are bright. He will be a great Senator and help the President.
HEADLINE: Hospitals See Rapid Progress in Reducing Infections, Other Preventable Problems: Association credits statewide improvement to federally backed initiative under Affordable Care Act
// New Jersey hospitals are celebrating a major drop in hospital infections and other preventable problems last year, due to a federally funded initiative that’s part of the Affordable Care Act.
The effort, led by the New Jersey Hospital Association, is aimed at improving the quality of care offered at hospitals by reducing preventable illnesses that originate in healthcare facilities. These problems are a major cause of concern at hospitals and reducing their occurrence is a goal of federal health reform. The association has been holding face-to-face learning sessions in which doctors and nurses share their experiences in reducing the spread of infections, readmission rates, and other preventable problems.
“It’s really bringing together clinicians and focusing on what are the best practices,” said Aline Holmes, director of the NJHA Institute for Quality and Patient Safety and a registered nurse. It took only one year for hospitals to achieve broad-based improvements, according to an association report released yesterday. The initiative, known as Partnership for Patients, was launched at the beginning of 2012 and is scheduled to continue through the end of this year. //

If you're going to run any campaign at all about LGBT issues, please don't make the same mistake a lot of them do. Demi, Bi, Ace, and Pansexuals get erased from almost every single one, and it is very disheartening to see that your sexuality is not only erased, but discredited as if it never existed. I struggled to discover my identity for two years because I thought on transexuals, gays, and lesbians were around. Run a campaign that displays those, and you will help more people than you know.
No questions, lol. I just wanted to say thank you. I know it hasn't been easy to be so forthrightly supportive of the LGBT community. It's been politically risky. But you've transformed my life and the lives of so many other Gay people. Given us a complete future in our own country. And I'll never forget that. Thanks. *huuuugs*
What do you mean when you say you will "support" the effort? What steps will you actually be taking?

James Joyce is, for me, the epitome of the novelist in English. If I can write a tenth as well as him, I’ll be happy.
Was it something I said? ;)
Congrats, Mary - sleep tight. I’m off to drink more wine…

I’d pay to see that!

CarolMae, Thanks for the recipe! Now the question, do I make them or give me Mom the recipe and ingredients????
That is up to YOU! Don’t make me decide. ;)

Five-year-old kid given a .22 rifle as a gift, a .22 rifle especially made for kids. Good God. This is NUTS. NUTS !!!!!!
As Einstein said, genius has a limit while the stupidity does not.
True.
