Absolutely disgusting woman. I will not watch the new batman movie coming out. I was actually thinking of giving it a see, but with her approval of mass murder I changed my mind.

This is pure genocide inflicted on Palestinians by Israel! Even as I grieve for the loss of the two innocent Israeli civilians, this utter devastation of Gaza by Israel is beyond the proportional response to the crude Hamas rocket attacks.

    Here’s why MSNBC’s ratings are falling…

// Is Chris Cillizza jockeying for a job on Fox News?

You’ve heard it before. Barack Obama – the president who ended two wars, instituted health care reform that encompasses all Americans, realized the most significant financial reform in living history including the country’s first ever federal agency dedicated only to consumer finance, managed to disarm a middle eastern tyrant without firing a single shot, took out America’s most wanted terrorist that eluded two previous administrations (one Republican, one Democratic), and managed the program that pulled America out of a Second Great Depression with the precision of a surgeon – is… “incompetent.”

This has long been the meme of the right wing media. Heck, Mitt Romney ran on this theme in 2012 and lost the White House spectacularly. But as usual, memes that start on the far right and cause conservatives to lose the presidency by 100 electoral votes eventually make their way onto the rest of the media, taken as gospel.

Just as the whole media follows Fox’s lead in seeking out the “expert” advice policymakers who were deadly and disastrously wrong about getting America into the quagmire of Iraq about what to do in Iraq, if Fox starts a meme about President Obama’s “competence problem” (which goes rather nicely with… black! … don’t you think?), you can be sure others in the media will follow – even those that occupy “liberal” corners of news, such as Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza, a frequent guest on MSNBC.//

.WASHINGTON — President Obama announced expanded sanctions against Russia on Tuesday, just hours after the European Union imposed its most sweeping measures yet penalizing Moscow for its role in supporting separatists in neighboring Ukraine. The latest American actions took aim at more Russian banks and a large defense firm, but they also went further than past moves by blocking future technology sales to Russia’s lucrative oil industry in an effort to inhibit its ability to develop future resources. The measures were meant to largely match those unveiled earlier in the day in Europe.

“Today is a reminder that the United States means what it says and we will rally the international community in standing up for the rights and freedom of people around the world,” Mr. Obama said on the South Lawn of the White House.

***I added a great graphic not included in the article***

Mr. Obama said the government of President Vladimir V. Putin had gone beyond past support for pro-Russian separatists fighting the central Ukrainian government in Kiev and was now directly participating in the civil war by firing artillery across the border, transporting more military equipment to the rebels and massing its own troops. “In other words, today Russia is once again isolating itself from the international community setting back decades of genuine progress,” he said. “And it doesn’t have to come to this. It didn’t have to come to this. It doesn’t have to be this way. This is a choice that Russia and President Putin in particular has made……continued

So, every summer for the past 3 years, a gentleman from Spain comes to the US to visit his daughter and grandkids, and he comes into the library. His name is Enrique, and we’ve struck up a seasonal friendship. For the past two years he’s been working on a novel—and it’s been published in Spain! So his success has spurred me on to finish revisions on my novel. And, I think I will go the trad pub route.

The state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation, created in 2007, has a charter capital accounting for 117 billion rubles ($3.7 billion). The company exports about 30% of its production.

Roger Cohen’s very powerful statement aligns with Chait’s as Chait noted …

“What I cannot accept, however, is the perversion of Zionism that has seen the inexorable growth of a Messianic Israeli nationalism claiming all the land between the Mediterranean and the Jordan River; that has, for almost a half-century now, produced the systematic oppression of another people in the West Bank; that has led to the steady expansion of Israeli settlements on the very West Bank land of any Palestinian state; that isolates moderate Palestinians like Salam Fayyad in the name of divide-and-rule; that pursues policies that will make it impossible to remain a Jewish and democratic state; that seeks tactical advantage rather than the strategic breakthrough of a two-state peace; that blockades Gaza with 1.8 million people locked in its prison and is then surprised by the periodic eruptions of the inmates; and that responds disproportionately to attack in a way that kills hundreds of children.

This, as a Zionist, I cannot accept. Jews, above all people, know what oppression is. Children over millennia were the transmission belt of Jewish survival, the object of what the Israeli novelist Amos Oz and his daughter Fania Oz-Salzberger have called “the intergenerational quizzing that ensures the passing of the torch.” No argument, no Palestinian outrage or subterfuge, can gloss over what Jewish failure the killing of children in such numbers represents.

The Israeli case for the bombardment of Gaza could be foolproof. If Benjamin Netanyahu had made a good-faith effort to find common cause with Palestinian moderates for peace and been rebuffed, it would be. He has not. Hamas is vile. I would happily see it destroyed. But Hamas is also the product of a situation that Israel has reinforced rather than sought to resolve.

This corrosive Israeli exercise in the control of another people, breeding the contempt of the powerful for the oppressed, is a betrayal of the Zionism in which I still believe.”

Brilliantly written, heartfelt statement from Cohen. I hope more and more thoughtful Zionists come to this conclusion. It’s sad beyond words that Netanyahu has deliberately chosen to isolate Israel and undermine its future. And it’s sadder still that so many Israelis have allowed him to do it.

they learned that from the GOP.

    • July 30, 2014 at 1:46 am

You know, Bob, Netanyahu’s disrespect of President Obama and his administration is aided and abetted by Republicans like Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, other idiot Republicans; It’s also aided and abetted by our so called mainstream media (MSM). I hope all of us here at TOD will do whatever it takes to help elect Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress in November. A democratic win in November will send a strong message to the world that the majority of Americans still have the President’s back. After the President was re-elected, I though Republicans and the MSM would realize that he has the support of the majority of Americans and thus dial down their constant bashing of him. I was sadly mistaken! The vicious attacks on President Obama, ever since he was re-elected, have increased dramatically. Foreign leaders are tuned in on the U.S. media. And If the media are constantly telling the whole world that President Obama is unpopular, and that the majority of Americans question his competency, It is no wonder that leaders like Netanyahu and Putin think that they can get away with disrespecting the President.
