Good morning and thanks, Chips, for the cheery photo. Today, when my older sister should be celebrating her first wedding anniversary, she is undergoing skin cancer surgery. Sometimes life is a little over generous with the lemons. Hope our president sleeps late and eases into the week’s headaches. The headaches will always be there and his health, like all of ours, has to come first. Hope everyone has a happy and healthy day.

You guys know it’s not easy to engage most of the little ones simultaneously in a group this size, right?

Morning, TODvillage! My Monday’s overcast, bleak-looking and cold. What’s yours doing?

      November 17, 2025 at 8:06 am

Well, VC, it’s raining hard, the skies are a dark gray and the temperature is in the 30′s. What’s not to like?

        November 17, 2025 at 8:25 am

‘What’s not to like?’  I like your attitude, JackieG. After all, as YardArm would say, ‘We are not pushing up tulips’ or something similar.

        Have a great day!

It’s quite toasty here VC, Danny and myself just had breakfast on the beach

After a slight drizzle on Friday night, SoCal weather has resumed its typical pattern.

We’ve now got blustery santa ana (aka devil) winds which drives everyone bonkers — which is common after it rains here.

LL said it wasn’t windy by LAX yesterday, but it is in my neck of the woods.

Can’t wait for the winds to calm down.

Morning, Arapaho! I bet the LA weather gods are not pleased with you - you don’t like excessive heat, blustery winds, too little rain, too much rain. What’s a weather god to do?

Wishing you a ‘Happy Monday’ regardless of whatever weather the god decides on!

You’re too funny, vc, and as usual, spot on. :)

Sorry about the weather complaints. If I had to choose one weather God to diss, it would be the Wind God.

Feels like negative humidity here, i.e., like all the moisture in your body is being sucked out from your pores. No dewy complexions here now.

End of weather rant, and I’ll think twice before complaining again. ;)

‘End of weather rant, and I’ll think twice before complaining again.’

Don’t, please, Arapaho. I’ m not being critical, I just like to tease. Ask Japa. ;) *I* will *try* to restrain myself, but the weather is a wonderful conversation starter, and since Amk has abandoned me, I am lost and bewildered. :( :(

              Miss amk too.

It’s raining like a car wash over my house. I blame amk for leaving us

The commute to work is going to be a nightmare.

Drive carefully and slowly, Dee - you’ll get there when you get there, and safely.

A co-worker who lived far from work once gave me a valuable (I considered it so ;) ) piece of ‘advice’ when a heavy snowfall or a storm was predicted. Normally, I would leave home earlier - extra time for the journey and all that since I also lived far enough away. He was always early for work 98%, so when he rolled in late one stormy day I asked him if he had left home much earlier than normal - trying to gauge traffic/weather from his end. His shrugging response, “Why? I always leave at the same time. I’m not putting myself out; when the weather is bad everyone (ie. the boss) knows it.” Of course you know who didn’t put too much pressure on herself to get ahead of the traffic on bad weather days after this convo, and who stopped worrying about a late arrival. ;)

Here’s a good response to any of your GOP friends/family/colleagues who say “we don’t have a tax problem, we’ve got a spending problem.”

This chart shows how US’s tax revenues compare to other countries, and there’s more graphs in this article by Steve Rattner about income equality.

      November 17, 2025 at 8:56 am

Thanks, arapaho. And this low tax rate is the result of a concerted effort by the GOP since the Eisenhower era. For one of our major political parties, there is no sense of a community of interest in the US or the belief that when we all do well, the country does well. It’s every man for himself, the rich grab the largest share and the rest be damned.

    http://www.ndn.org/blog/2014/11/backgrounder-presidents-coming-executive-action-and-prosecutorial-discretion

At the core of the coming debate over Executive Action will likely be a discussion of prosecutorial discretion and/or the “Morton Memos.” The use of this power is what created DACA; it is something the entire GOP House voted on to repeal twice in the current Congress; and will likely provide the legal basis of what the President does next. Much of our work this past year has been in documenting how much change the Morton Memos brought to the immigration and border enforcement system over the past several years.

We conclude that the way the Administration has already used P/D has helped make our border safer, kept the net flow of undocumented immigrants into the US at zero and improved public safety by prioritizing the removal of undocumented immigrants with criminal records from the interior of the country. It has also been humane, as the number of people deported without criminal records or caught entering the country illegally has fallen to very low levels. It has been smart and successful policy, providing the President with a strong foundation on which he can take additional action.

For more on this see our assembled resources below.

    Let them freak.

Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.

Yesterday I moved to a 55+ older apartment complex. My movers spoke with an accent & spoke the native language, so I asked what it was…they are from Ukraine. You know we had lively conversations after that. They were wonderful young men. We all agreed, Putin is unbalanced. They said he can’t give up his KGB ways.

Good more-to-the-east west coast morning, Gx2!
Doesn’t it feel great to actually have some relevant info about news in places around the world? I actually find I’m more ‘with it’ these days because of our TODvillage and its world class journalists.

Have a short, relaxing drive to work! [55 & older, eh? Hmmmm. ;) ;) ]

For everyone else, I love the new city!!

Your Ukrainian movers are right about Putin. He’s living in a world that no longer exists and trying to do as much damage as he can to as many people as possible. Sad, misplaced, destructive, ugly, looney little man. Hope you enjoy your new apartment GGail.

      Love the immigrant spirit!

Sounds like they spoke English well.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, I recall chatting with the guy who delivered Sparkletts water to our office. He was a recent Polish immigrant, and spoke English flawlessly, with just a slight accent.

Since this was over 20 years ago, I wasn’t aware of how/whether English was taught in schools in Poland, so I asked where he learned English. He said from television — I was quite impressed.

GGail, enjoy your new digs. I live in the same kind of building and varied ethnic people. It is fun to meet them and talk to them. We have 3 that are from the Ukraine with family still there. Sometimes it’s hard to talk to them, they don’t understand English real well and speak it less. But wonderful people. I have more trouble with the White older people being nasty. Sometimes I just have to shake my head and move on. :-)

    BTW,

The front-page photo on this thread is just incredible.

The little ones up front have expressions of pure joy and awe, the older ones have the same expressions but stand with such respect and honor for the President. And you just know the children looking off to the side are glancing at their parents to share their joy.

    Gorgeous and inspiring.

Does VP Biden share a birthday with this schmuck? Didn’t MP say somewhere that today was VPJoe’s day? O well!
I’m off to find myself something to eat.
