“Whiteness was never about skin color or a natural inclination to stand with one’s own; it was designed to racialize power and conveniently dehumanize outsiders and the enslaved. It has always been a calculated game with very real economic motivations and benefits.”
I’m white, as you know. I’ve been stating exactly that, for decades :)
“The current divide is a white construction, and it is up to white people to do the necessary work to dismantle the system borne from the slave trade, instead of ignoring it or telling people of color to “get over” its extant legacy.”
As you know, that is why I’ve stated unequivocally that #TruthAndReconciliation in the United States of America is a ‘White’ Responsibility - not for a month, but for at least the duration of one generation.
What intrigued me is how and why certain members were in inducted into “whiteness”..into White Privilege…
from the article
The original white Americans — those from England, certain areas of Western Europe, and the Nordic States — excluded other European immigrants from that category to deny them jobs, social standing, and legal privileges. It’s not widely known in the U.S. that several ethnic groups, such as Germans, Italians, Russians and the Irish, were excluded from whiteness and considered non-white as recently as the early 20th century.
“Members of these groups sometimes sued the state in order to be legally recognized as white, so they could access a variety of rights available only to whites — specifically American citizenship, which was then limited, by the U.S. Naturalization Law of 1790, to “free white persons” of “good character.” Attorney John Tehranian writes in the Yale Law Journal that petitioners could present a case based not on skin color, but on “religious practices, culture, education, intermarriage and [their] community’s role,” to try to secure their admission to this elite social group and its accompanying advantages.”
Yes. This what I taught in my sociology class regarding whiteness. It is a very recent social construct and those that use it today and are in esssence reinforcing it’s purpose. We need people of European desent to either use their country of origin as a racial identifier or wuse simply European. It’s really up to every “white” person to expose and then help eliminate this opressive socio-economic construct from our discourse.
Exactly my sentiments. And it’s Oregon’s birthday today. Sigh. Meanwhile, we’re almost finished with the current ACA enrollment period. Help it finish BIG!

I can’t belief a friend of mine was telling me that he hated the ‘Orange Is The New Black’ joke. I found it hilarious and I’m not much of a fan of the show myself.
A wonderful gift to all of our sisters and brothers who will have a little more peacefulness and able to express their love with a little more peace of mind during those difficult and needed medical times. Just knowing that they can take their children to a doctor is pure peace IMO.

Happiness to all of my TOD family and my Chips on this lovely day.
The weather out here is greeting our beloved president with kisses of bright sunshine and glorious blue skies. Enjoy every moment of your game today and all the other days for that matter. Mr. President, welcome to Cali. We love you so much. HZ
Mtmarilyn, I feel all of the love and care deep within my heart and soul. I trust Chips with my very being. And those who know me would be the first to truly Amen that thought. I felt the warmth, intellect, and deep actions of respect for PBO coming from Chips and her beautiful space from the very moment that I stepped into this family.
Chips’ beautiful spirit and brilliant mind set the tone from the start; , and I knew then, that I was in a right space where I could listen to truths, read truth, learn from others, and share my political appreciations on a level that represents a man that we all had just worked so hard to elect as our 44th President. My moments of enjoying my journey with the TOD family lift my spirit daily. Thank you all so much.HZ

My day has been made. Not only did we have long phone calls with both our children, we got to spend over an hour with our little granddaughter on FaceTime. Then a beautiful bouquet of red roses and carnations came to my door from my husband. I cannot ask for more.
:) Wonderful! My day has been made, too. One of the 3rd graders that I tutor shared her progress report with me today and though I only tutor her for math and reading…she went up in ALL of her grades..sometimes as much as 2 entire letter grades!! Holy moly, am I so proud of her for being responsible for her learning!!!! This is why I what I do:)
Thanks, jackieg:) Funny that you said that because her mom couldn’t believe how quickly this happened. Only been seeing her since just around Oct/Nov time frame….she was amazed. I didn’t do anything, really. She made the commitment to be a good student. See what happens! :) I am more than thrilled right now.
Another way of putting this is that the Senate Democrats can filibuster as much as they want and they don’t have to have the remotest fear that anyone will ever hold them accountable for it. That, ironically, is a lesson that Mitch McConnell taught them while he was serving as the Senate Minority Leader.
I think it’s even better for the Democrats than it was for the Republicans. The Republicans were filibustering things that the president had proposed. Those things were mostly poll-tested and quite popular with the general public. But what the Democrats are opposing isn’t popular. No one gives a shit about the Keystone pipeline. No one wants the Homeland Security department shut down. No one is going to wants guns in every purse or more abortion restrictions. No one wants sanctions in Iran.
Df, the supreme irony our our times is that no one wants what the Republicans propose and yet people elected them to the majority. If Americans don’t want crappy legislation that undermines their health, safety and financial well being, they might consider getting out to vote next time. I will not, however, hold my breath.
but there is a difference in the Filibuster…when the GOP filibustered it was to obstruct…they filibustered bills that they had supported in the past..McConnell filibister a bill he had introduced his self….it was part of their strategy to make the President a one term president…when the Dems filibuster it is to prevent the deportation of dreamers…i think that we have to say this…it is NOT a tit for tat

And, yes, Bibi didn’t stop until he had effectively annihilated Gaza. Whether Putin stops before his tanks are rolling into Kyiv is the only open ? for me at this point.
“Kyiv, 14 February 2025 - Following the recent summit meeting in the Normandy Format in Minsk, the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG), consisting of senior representatives of Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, today, 14 February 2015, held a round of consultations in the form of a video-conference with representatives of certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Issues of the practical implementation of the “Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements”, adopted in Minsk on 12 February 2015, were discussed during the consultations. Particular emphasis was placed on full respect of provisions concerning the ceasefire, which should be strictly implemented from 15 February 2025 at 00.00 hours Kiev time, as well as the withdrawal of heavy weapons, as agreed in the Package of Measures.
It was agreed that all actors will undertake all necessary measures aimed at achieving the above objectives and the speedy de-escalation of ongoing hostilities in the conflict zone, in particular in the vicinity of the towns of Debaltseve and Mariupol, which have seen the heaviest fighting in recent days.
It was also decided that the Trilateral Contact Group will hold further consultations with representatives of certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions on a regular basis in order to facilitate the full implementation of the Minsk Agreements of 5 and 19 September 2025 and the Package of Measures of 12 February 2015.”

Chips, don’t know if you saw my Valentine’s greetings to you and Danny in the previous thread. Want to wish NW a Happy Valentine’s, as well, and thank both of you for sustaining this truly loving community.
Sir Bob, you’re an angel! Thank you for your loveliness. I was going to send you this fella in reply, but he seems to be waving his bottom in a quite a suggestive manner :???:
I do not understand why everyone is not calling it as it is…….. there is no ceasefire…there is no peace accord……it reminds me of the fairy tale…The Emperor’s New Clothes…
It is ongoing conventional warfare, pf58 - In_Deed!
Everyone knows it. This entire drill, as best I can see, is a necessary step to make as transparent as possible to the world that Putin is waging war and all the propaganda stunts in his bag of tricks can’t hide that fact.
What happens next …. it’s warfare, i.e., most of what is going to happen is unpredictable. But, one thing for sure, the situation could not be more dangerous if Putin doesn’t halt the shooting.
Same to you queen of hearts and blogs!
Congrats almab on First!
Thanks GGail.
Chips, did you also know that today is Di Maria’s birthday?
(1) Noooooooo!
(2) I have flooded the room with tears at GGail telling me the birth date of a Manchester United player - you are TOO much

While I was sitting here thinking - ‘I don’t know a ‘Maria’ in the village, and what’s the ‘Di’ for - Ms/Mrs/Diana/Huh?’
Pay attention vc. Soccer - :D
I got that much once Chips answered you, GxG! If you ask me though, you have become too much invested in this soccer thingy.
Diversifying my thinking - keep the brain active :D

You got me hooked on all things ManU! :D :D
He turns 27 today!
You’re a flippin’ hoooooooooooooot!!!
He’s a cutie - can’t help myself :D
If I ever get an airline ticket…
Mark Knoller can’t wait to report on PBO’s golf…he’s already gearing up with tweets about the weather in Palm Springs, vs DC.
smh….hahaha
As I predicted…
hahahahaha :-D
hf, what would we do without Knoller’s reporting???
I’m telling you GGail, we would be completely lost without the Count!
Truly lost! :D

Happy Birthday, Arizona:) 103 years old today
20 min before #Ceasefire deadline and all I’m seeing are reports of warfare raging …
The exact same thing happened when there was supposed to be cease fires between Israel and Gaza…..didn’t it ?
Multiple attempts were made before it finally ended.
CNN is acting like they never saw this kind of thing before……
Yes, CNN “acts,” Linda. That’s why I refer to all of them as #NEWSTAINERS.
And, yes, Bibi didn’t stop until he had effectively annihilated Gaza. Whether Putin stops before his tanks are rolling into Kyiv is the only open ? for me at this point.
President Poroshenko speaking to his citizens, now ….
One thing about this fella, he doesn’t bluster or bluff …
They conversed a bit earlier today, prior to the “ceasefire” …
Just posted ….
Cheers!!
Sir Bob, you’re an angel! Thank you for your loveliness. I was going to send you this fella in reply, but he seems to be waving his bottom in a quite a suggestive manner :???:
:D :D :D :D :D
That is an interesting approach to a “hug,” Chips!!!!
Thank you!!!
2 minutes in to the cease fire and CNN is already freaking out..
Shelling is still going on ……will it hold ????
lol
BBC has live coverage of the ceasefire in Ukraine
