Great! Finally took a little mini vacation to NYC with my youngest son. The highlight for him was the Natural History Museum. We spent a lot of time in the Hayden Planetarium and he is now obsessed with reading everything Carl Sagan. The best thing was that there were a bunch of NYC YMCA camp kids there on the same day. So much joy and energy and curiosity.
Sounds like a great trip. Every summer while I was in college I was a counselor at a camp and we went to the Natural History Museum and Hayden Planetarium every year. I enjoyed it as much as the kids.

Loons are a beautiful, shy, and mysterious water bird. Their calls at twilight are mesmerizing, and hauntingly beautiful. Loons are difficult to see/observe because they are cautious and do not care much for humans.
Some of you probably saw my post this morning about the flags not being at half-staff and what an upheaval it has been on my FB page. Well, now that PO has ordered it, the local TV statons are almost crucifying him…….questioning why it took so long?? Can any of you venture a guess as to the timing he used? Would appreciate any thoughts!

“The five military personnel who were killed were classified as killed “in the line of duty” by the Pentagon. For this reason, the responsibility goes to the Governors of the each state that had a fallen hero. The President does not typically order that flags be lowered for “in the line of duty” tragedies; if he were to do so, the flags would have to ALWAYS be lowered because of soldiers dying “in the line of duty”. The flags would have remained lowered for YEARS during the wars if this were the process. So it’s not just Obama. The President has ordered flags lowered numerous times when there have been civilian casualties along with military casualties (like Fort Hood). I also posted a wiki summary and link that says a President can only do so by EO or Proclamation. It took time to do what he did because he’s not a dictator contrary to what some people think. He has to consult a whole bunch of people. Then the EO or proclamation has to vetted and then redrafted then vetted again and edited and finally he can sign off on it. With of sensitive ignorant racist peeps we have in DC, President Obama has to make sure he follows protocol. The point desertflower makes is why I don’t think it was a good idea. But you have to pick your battles and President Obama understands white reaction to the terrible terrible tragedy of the 5 marines in the context of the Charleston massacre. I think President Obama is so pissed off about what happened to the Marines, his Marines, the men and women who not only go into battle for us but protect the President. the Vice President and the Diplomatic core. Good to know you are here.
I just got back from Aruba last week.
I lurked as much as I could while I was there.
But two days before we were to return home two other friends including myself got on the one foe the water rides and one of our friends drowned.
The good news here kept me from posting this because I did not want to make anyone sad.
It was a terrible thing to happen while on vacation.
Her Life Celebration was held last Thursday. I was not able to be there.
I am trying to process it all with the help of loving friends, family and lots of prayers.
I just want to share that when you experience life and death in the blink of an eye Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and ALL of the haters who are going to hate does not and will not matter.
The only thing that matters is God’s love and how you treat others.
This President that gives so much love and has so much to give is truly someone that we should hold dear and proud that we were chosen to be part of this journey.
Thank you all here for keeping up the good fight.

I wonder about that too. I also question the timing of the announcement (during the debate about the Iran deal negotiations). Schumer clearly has divided loyalties, so maybe his appointment was to let Israel know the Congress will remain in its pocket no matter which party is in control.

I remember Stewart hyperventilating about the IRS fake scandal saying either PBO was either Nixon (if he knew what was going on at that IRS office) or Mr. Magoo if he did not know what was going on. Stewart’s goal appeared to sow cynicism among young folks who don’t understand that change takes time and effort. He betrayed the trust a lot of young folks placed in him.

Similar to the death of Michael Brown whose police encounter stemmed from jaywalking. Or Eric Garner who was choked to death for selling loose cigarettes. This continues because in most cases there is NO accountability….
So far only Baltimore and South Carolina (for Walter Scotts murder) offered any semblance of the pursuit of justice. One required video evidence of the cop shooting a man in the back and planting a weapon and the other required a riot, to get folks to do the right thing.
And what is a jury going to do in both cases? I have little faith.
And what was worse - according to what I read yesterday - the lane change was to get out of the way of a speeding cop car - and he stopped and pulled her over.

So far EVERYTHING about this cop’s behavior suggests an out-of-control THUG bully who happened to be in police uniform. And even if Bland was “rude” or “aggressive” or any such, this officer was no match for her physically and otherwise - he is the supposed “professional” who has been trained to deal with ALL kinds of situations (including angry/rude responses from people who have been stopped/questions). He is the profession who has been trained to de-escalate such situations if and when they occur.
Yet he did just the opposite; he incited her anger; he provoked her; he taunted her; he manhandled her, and worst of all, he tried to cover up the evidence of his unethical and dangerous behavior by making sure the videocam could not record those acts.
Racist/thugs cops often seek out jobs as cops just so they can act out their power trips on people of color, just as pedophiles will seek out employment that gives them proximity to children. Youtube is full of videos of white folks cursing out cops during traffic stops. The cop stands there and take the verbal abuse, as a professional should. Yet when a Black person dares to voice objection, it is a death sentence. This society does not value Black life. This devaluation of Black life goes back to slavery (even though ignorant racists will try to blame it on rap, because the system requires the victim be blamed).
Chris Matthews were saying afew minutes ago that the Republicans don’t have anyone to blame for Donald Trump, but themselves. When Trump were running around saying that President Obama was not the president because he was not born in this country, the Republicans sat back on their lily white asses and said nothing. None of them step forward and said that Barack Obama was born in this country, and Donald Trump ought to stop lying.

Funny story from my son. In the middle of his surgical procedure today (draining fluid from remaining lung) (he was awake with a local), sound track in operating chamber was playing “Hurts So Good.” When he heard it, he sang the next “Hurts So Good” line right along with John Cougar. Surgeon and others (apparently all sadistic for playin’ that song with surgical instruments in their hands!) all had a good laugh. Son said he was cracking jokes all the way through it. Told me he’d have more stories to give me tomorrow when I visit … stay tuned!

the arrest video is truly disturbing and raises far too many questions
Friends, Quick prayer request. Daughter and son-in-law are going to ‘talk’ after the kids go to bed. Seems while she was here with me for three weeks, he has become more aggressive about moving forward with a divorce. Would like the prayer to be for her to remain strong, CALM and focused. Thank you.
