Eric
This rash of police murders of unarmed AA citizens is the perfect illustration of the institutional racism against Black folks that has plagued this country since its founding. The predominate view among cops in this country is that Black life is worthless. They kill a Black person with all the emotion exhibited in killing a fly. This dehumanization finds its roots in chattel slavery, where the ruthless exploitation of Black slaves required the oppressor strip the oppressed of his/her humanity. While I am glad the prosecutor decided to do the right thing and find his statements welcome, we must accept that this is an anomaly, a break from the norm. The swiftness of his decision tells me that the Baltimore Prosecutor Mosby set a precedent that is being followed. Her bravery and truth telling has thankfully inspired imitation. I also think that the Baltimore rebellion (I reject the “riot” label the oppressor uses) and the fear of further Black rebellions has made “doing the right thing” a bit easier (opposed to the “always back the cop” status quo). As has always been the case, the family of the latest victim is pleading for peaceful protests. God are we a forgiving people. These families are to be commended for their collective GRACE and selflessness. I fear however that if these police murders of unarmed Black citizens continues the odds are one victim’s family will advocate a violent response which could ignite a racial powder keg in this country. With each police murder, the fuse is getting shorter and shorter.

Hej.
AMEN!
#AllLivesMatter is such disgusting bullshit.
I am beyond saddened and sickened by what’s happened with this man. Watched the video and filled with loathing at a system that quietly does everything in their power to protect dirty cops.
^^^ This is what I agree with. For all those singular police brought to justice, all those others weren’t. Many others in the future won’t be, either. And it won’t bring #SamDubose back to his mother and siblings, in any case.
And to have George Zimmerman’s lawyer standing on stage with the family is beyond crass.
I will try to remain hopeful for the future of our country, but the more we hear about its present, the harder it gets.
JPO’B the hope for the future isn’t going to be fulfilled in our lifetimes or even in those of our children, but I pray that when your little great grandson and my granddaughter are grown the world will be a better and more just place. That’s really the only thing that keeps me going.
Thanks for that reminder, jackieG. I agree. #Forward <3

Police departments across this country need to do some soul-searching and house-cleaning.
Steve Israel walked out of the meeting with POTUS and said he doesn’t see any path to voting for the Iran Deal.
I’m so sick of this jerks!
I have been sounding the alarm for a long time.
Whatever the agenda of the DNC AKA DLC might be, it is not our agenda. The evidence points to decisions that bring loss upon loss.
Begich, Landrieu, Hagan, Nunn, Grimes, Sestak, Gruel, the mother-in-law Mezvinsky and so on and so on.
Add in Lieberman and Bayh and you have the crux of the 40 million dollar campaign against PBO, the USA, the Democratic party and the World.
The money funding this comes from Adelson types named Saban and Steinhardt and Bloomberg.
I watched the video of the WHPC with April and I didn’t hear anything that cheered me up. I must have missed what you heard.
The question that I see before us is Whose Party is This?
Is it the Winning team of Obama/Biden and their massive accomplishments on behalf of the American people?
Or will we hand it over to the Neo-Cons and Plutocrats whose sign near their names are less (R) or (D) but ($)?
So Steven Israel want the U.S. to go to war with Iran. Sometimes I just don’t understand these Democrats.

http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/hamilton-county/cincinnati/watch-body-cam-video-released-in-sam-dubose-shooting
This is a clean video of the killing. It is 26 minutes long. It shows from the time the college cop got up to Sam’s car all the way to the time the college cop is driven to the hospital to be checked out. Sam’s life was taken from him within the first 5 minutes of this 26 minute recording. You can hear the college cop telling anyone and everyone that he was being dragged and had to shoot, that his arm/hand was caught in the car. You can tell and hear that he’s quite excited, more like shocked at the death of this human being that was caused by him. He keeps walking up to Sam’s car and looking at him - I guess in disbelief. But his lie about what led up to the shooting is so easily accepted by the white city and college cops. Unbelieveable how this would have ended so differently but for the body cam.
A depressingly large percentage of white folks have an innate FEAR of Black men. The unprocessed/unacknowledged racial anxiety brought about by the Age of Obama adds to this FEAR. Add to that FEAR a gun and a perceived license to kill via a badge and you have a deadly cocktail. There is a reason nobody kept records of police killings, they have been lynching us for decades with no paper trail. Body cams are a must.
You can hear this phucker pumping himself up with each question - especially when he is questioning Sam about the drivers license. He suddenly becomes Barney Phucking Fyfe and phucks up two lives plus the damage to the family and loved ones.
Watching the 26 minutes of that video made me madder and madder and I had to keep remembering that Sam lost his life in the FIRST 5 MINUTES. And all while the officers are concerning themselves with the college cop and how he was doing, Sam was laying lifeless in his car.
If you missed Propane Jane’s epic rant taking down #AllLivesMatter today, DO check it out. All of it.
Oh yes indeed. I find myself increasingly flocking to Jane’s TL - she so effectively puts into tweets what we have been thinking but unable to articulate.
She is outstanding, meta!! Thank you for posting that one in particular.
Thought I wouldn’t have time to stop in again, today.
Would add a simple, bitter truth …
From aiding and abetting Bush & Cheney to lie us into Iraq, to incessant disrespect of PBO & purposeful damage of his efforts to help all Americans, to their obvious complicit contributions to the continuation of #WhiteSupremacy (aka institutional white on black crimes because it’s way beyond mere racism), the US corporate media are the ENEMY of justice and equality in America.
#FORWARD Together
A system that requires its police to wear bodycams indicts itself and admits that they are out of control.
Since we were drug over to America to become slaves, “white has always been right”, so yes, we need bodycams to level the playing field
AMEN…
and although body cams is a way to bring about accountability…it is the system itself that need to be dismantled and rebuilt…it is not just individual cops at fault but a system that enables them.
True
Yup. The system tried to abdicate its responsibility here because of its failure to address the root cause - the mentality of using deadly violence against even the tiniest of instigation using the naturally adversarial cop-citizen interaction as the pathetic excuse and worse trying to cover for these killers. If the weaponized cop is going to be all the time ‘fearful of his/her life’ and hence kills with impunity, what about the unarmed citizens then? Who is addressing their legitimate and more real fear for their own lives? Bodycams are a treatment to the symptoms not the cause.
Bodycams are a treatment to the symptoms not the cause.
***************
I agree…but with cams we as citizens have concrete evidence that change is needed..
Yup, change is needed what the citizens should be hammering their pols about. Like they did to sanders.
TWEET IT amk!!!
Good morning friend :)
:). GM Bob.
It is the same as it ever was. The Black Panthers started as a response to police brutality by having Panthers monitor police interactions with Black citizens. The Panthers were armed (open carry was legal in California until Gov. Ronald Reagan outlawing it, in response to the Panthers) and made sure the cops behaved themselves. Brave citizens who use camera phones to film police murders and refute the inevitable victim blaming are carrying on the tradition of citizens monitoring the police. Body cameras watching the police have been necessary for over a century. Thankfully technology makes possible today.
Oh, I agree that the bodycams and cell phones are the tools to shine the light on these roaches but my point is that there shouldn’t be so many roaches in the policing system and definitely not for so long. It’s like the doctor saying, ‘ok, I have seen your x-rays showing the cancer, but since I can’t do anything about it, I am gonna give you this cold medicine’.
amk, you talk as if you are disappointed that some “Great White Hope” hasn’t come along before now to clean up the roaches in the police system. This arc for justice is slow in bending, but I say now is better than never.
No, what I am saying is that the system is trying to fob off their citizens the due justice by saying ‘ hey, look, we made them wear bodycams, what else you want us to do?’. That’s not good enough. They need to address the guns first mentality in the police force. Two indictments out of hundreds of police killings ain’t gonna cut it. That arc of justice has to be kicked in its ass to move faster.
rob of their due justice …
Not to mention breaking down the ugly Blue Wall of Silence. What is it that compels police who WITNESS brutality and murder to cover up for their offending fellow officer?
Blue Wall of Silence…

The link is about our county clerk and things he posted on his Facebook page. Be sure to keep scrolling and find his “apology.” Riigghhtt! He even threatens anyone who comes after him by saying “Bring it.” The county Dems will try to do something, but in this area, nothing is going to happen to him. The local paper published a SHORT story about this last week, then immediately pulled it. None of the TV stations reported anything until there was pressure for him to “apologize.” Can we say cover up and protect? Remember: IOKIYAR!

There was some late night drama in our supreme court. In a never before event, our sc was opened up at 3 am for hearing on the mercy petition of one of the architect of 1993 Mumbai terror attacks. The supremes rejected his final appeal (after it was turned down by our prez, the really last chance) and he was hanged today morning. One of the rare cases of our government carrying out the death sentence.
Yikes. It’s always sad to hear of a life ending because of capital punishment - whether it’s the culmination of a series of wrong and dangerous choices, or a miscarriage of justice. It’s so final.
99.9% of the death sentences (which themselves are very rare here) are commuted to life sentence with a presidential appeal. This one had too much blood on it to win that apeal. And the fact we have a rw govt did not help. And the irony is the guy they hanged provided only the financial muscle while his brother, who actually masterminded those attacks, is protected by pakistan & dubai.
Our judges, if they issue a death sentence, will break the nib of their pen on their sentencing order. It is a symbolic gesture that the pen could not be used to sign another death sentence.
Double-yikes.
Only 26% of money spent and collected by the Kenyan government has been fully approved in an audit for 2013-2014.
The auditor-general, whose report covered an annual budget of about $16bn (£10bn), said there were “disturbing problems” in government’s accounting.
It comes just days after US President Barack Obama warned on his visit to Africa that “the cancer of corruption” was holding the continent back.
Kenya is ranked amongst the world’s most corrupt countries.
It came 145 out of 174 nations on the Transparency International’s global corruption perceptions index.

Hi vc - I just got home from a long and leisurely lunch with some long time friends. A good way for real life to interfere with the intertubes :)
Sounds great! I turned down an afternoon invite for a group get-together Monday last because I didn’t want to make the effort. The meet-up wold have been about an hour of highway driving - if I got lucky and missed the traffic. I’m awful that way!
I was not much looking forward to it - an alternate style cafe in an area notoriously known for lack of parking - but we drove into an emply space, the wine was already open & the food was quite delicious. I keep telling myself to do this more often!
You should! :D :D I will live vicariously from your experience, without having to drive far myself. (There was a potential for parking issues at my venue as well - if all in the group showed up. ;) I made it somewhat easier for someone else by sending my apologies.)
