One of the few players to ever make rugby watchable, an absolute legend, horrible tragic news. He had severe kidney trouble in recent years, guessing that was the cause.
Oh damn, just looked it up Hopefruit, having a lovely time in Dubai. Awful. He was a force of nature as a player, utterly thrilling to watch, and I don’t even like rugby. So, so young to go.
Michael Morell: First, ISIS went to school on how we were collecting intelligence on terrorist organizations by using telecommunications technologies. And when they learned that from the Snowden disclosures they were able to adapt to it and essentially go silent … And so part of their rise was understanding what our capabilities were, adjusting to them so we couldn’t see them. No doubt in my mind. And the people who say otherwise are just trying to defend Edward Snowden.
Military leaders dubious of bigger war against ISIL
Military officials worry that leaders in Washington haven’t absorbed the lessons of America’s last big wars.
U.S. military leaders are skeptical about calls for escalating the war against the Islamic State, saying they have watched too many of their troops’ hard-won victories slip away amid civilian inattention in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Even as U.S. and allied aircraft step up their bombing campaign against the terrorist group after Friday’s attacks in Paris, senior military officials privately express worries that political leaders in Washington and foreign capitals still haven’t absorbed the lessons of America’s last two big wars. In both cases, the military defeated the Taliban, Saddam Hussein’s regime and the Iraqi insurgents, but civilian leadership failed to do the political, economic and diplomatic heavy-lifting needed to sustain those wins.
The same thing could happen again in the fight against ISIL, the military officials say, unless far more is done to train and arm local allies, beef up the State Department’s capacity to assist foreign allies to improve governing structures, counter the terrorist group’s message in mosques and in social media and employ much more international leverage to end the Syrian civil war. Otherwise, the growing pressure to strike back hard against ISIL will mean that guns and bombs once again get far more attention and resources than the other levers of power that would ultimately prove more consequential.
the media and the chorus of people who have been going on and on praising snowden & gg are now quiet about the claims being made that their disclosure possibly helped the Paris attackers hide their electronic trail;

remember when many people accused mcangry of being erratic in his reaction to the events of the 2008 campaign?
I am afraid that HRC is tending toward being erratic;
the problem of ISIL is going to be with this world for a while and much of what happened in Paris and other places is still unfolding.
so what is the rush in trying to give a “major speech” on national security now?
it is not wise;
why isn’t wise?
because chances are she may try to seem “rightwing-tough” and make pronouncements which may look rather foolish a year from now;
then as more details are released or the threat of ISIL morphs into another more urgent issue, she will try to change to another more comfortable position, again;
sometimes I feel like she and most of her advisors are running their campaign in reaction to what the beltway pundits and media say instead of sticking to the strategy they developed at the beginning of the race;
anyone with a brain can see that it is not wise to run your campaign by always reacting to the latest media & gop hysteria
Very few politicians have the courage to pause before speaking and taking a position. In fact, many tend to take a position because it’s the popular one for the moment.
POTUS will be remembered always for his wisdom to think, analyze before jumping before the press corps and say what the pundits expect. POTUS is a wise man.

His last tweet was just yesterday…so sad. May he rest in peace.

YUP - and just a couple weeks ago, the EU voted to grant Snowden asylum…. wonder what they’re thinking now…
Agreed. It is my deep belief that this traitor should have been extradited, prosecuted, and jailed with the key thrown somewhere.

You are so right, Linda, what can Hillary say that President Obama hasn’t already said.

WH officials held a conference call with governors tonight regarding the refugee situation.
Thanks meta - I was interested in the outcome of this meeting. These GOP governors are terribly ignorant, but then again, no surprise there.
