He’s doing great 57, thank you! No sign of the limp, but he’ll be finished the anti-inflammatory stuff in the next couple of days so I’m holding my breath hoping it doesn’t return. How are your furry bundles doing?
Good morning my beloved very early early bird - I heroically got up at the crack-ish of dawn, but not because I’m a dynamic person, only because I’m about 9.3 hours late with a worky thing I have to do :???:
It’s too bad that work has to interfere with all the good things in life-like languishing in bed, enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and then just lazing into the day, playing with Danny and or chatting with us. All this work stuff really is a drag.
Sounds like a good plan, Chips. It’d be a shame to put 23 behind you, but fun comes first. Maybe Danny could get a staring role in a tv series and support you in style for the rest of your life.
Yiiiiiikes!!! :-) I was feeling the same about my boss until 20 minutes ago when he was half human on the phone. Must have banged his head or something.
Gorgeous photo this morning. I hope our President got some rest after his exhausting stay in Turkey and his irritating encounter with the WHPC jackels. I’m sure that they will ask him the exact same questions at the next press conference and will not listen to a single word he says in reply.
Morning, AMK. The Republicans have one foreign policy tool-war-and they want to use it whenever they can. It’s a win/win for them because it brings big bucks to the Defense industry and it saves a lot of that messy, complex thinking of which they’re not capable anyway.
Good grief, I had no idea how extensive and grueling the vetting is. And what do these poor people do in the meantime? Those US governors who rant about rejecting these refugees are contemptible, ignorant and deeply unAmerican.
As Bobfr has been speaking about.. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/20/opinion/dont-fear-all-islamists-fear-salafis.html?_r=0
As the peddlers vented, prayers ended at the whitewashed mosque across the street. Among the faithful were Salafis, ultraconservative Sunni Muslims vying to define the new order according to seventh-century religious traditions rather than earthly realities. For years, many Salafis — “salaf” means predecessors — had avoided politics and embraced autocrats as long as they were Muslims. But over the past eight months, clusters of worshipers across the Middle East have morphed into powerful Salafi movements that are tapping into the disillusionment and disorder of transitions.
I’m thinking maybe we should give the Statue of Liberty back to France. We don’t really deserve to have it. We can’t live up to the words inscribed on her…Shame on us.
It is generally accepted that a major difference between Republicans and Democrats is their views about the size of the public sector. But ironically enough, data show that the states that tend to vote Republican in presidential elections are also the ones that tend to benefit most from federal spending.
Good morning. Getting ready to go to school, but had to comment on one thing. The cartoon with the two contrasting pictures…..terrorist/ Muslim really hit home to me. The picture of the woman completely represents three of my precious students, young women from Saudi Arabia. They are hardworking, lovely young women. One is a new mama, had a baby this fall and is still doing her school work. I know they are safe and protected while on campus, but I worry about them otherwise. When you think of people who need protection, give them names: Jumanah, Noor and Sarah. They are real people, not caricatures which the right wants everyone to think of.
Thanks. I always have confidence when I come to TOD with a request.
Byrd-Bennett entitled to at least $140K in public pensions; cost CPS $900K

Chicago taxpayers paid almost $900,000 for three and a half years’ work by disgraced former Chicago Public Schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett.
And though she’s a felon since pleading guilty in a contract rigging scheme at CPS, she still stands to cost taxpayers in districts that employed her more than $140,000 in annual public pensions.
Byrd-Bennett’s decades-long education career effectively ended in Chicago in April after federal subpoenas looking into her and a $20.5 million no-bid deal she gave a former employer, The SUPES Academy, became public. She resigned June 1, was indicted in October and pleaded guilty to a single count of wire fraud within a week of being charged. She faces prison time and has vowed to cooperate in the ongoing investigation
I agree with Tomasky that PBO’s press conference was a disaster for the press, but I disagree that it was a disaster for America or the world (not sure why it would be).
And Tomasky makes a lot of unfounded criticisms about PBO, including saying that PBO’s Syria policy was a failure, PBO was right to be criticized for saying that ISIS was contained (without giving the full context of PBO’s words), PBO’s quarter measure on ISIS was a failure etc…
In Today’s Journo world……No article, no editorial, no TV/Cable coverage would get Noticed, linked, etc without making sure that some “Balance” by this I mean, some demagoguery criticism labeled on one Pres Barack H. Obama.
This is why they…..the Press…..Never Give full Credit to Pres Obama. Great example……the elimination of Osama Bin Laden. That 1st Sunday, 13 of the 14 booked for the Sunday Talk Shows were GW Bush former Cabinet Members and they were given credit.
Here’s an issue that President Obama has been begging Congress to fix, along with pretty much all sane law enforcement: Known terrorists can buy guns legally here in the United States of “freedom”. Yes, we can’t have nice things like refusing to sell handguns or assault weapons to suspected terrorists, because the NRA is too worried about the profits of the gun manufacturers they represent.
Christopher Ingraham writing in the Washington Post reported, “Between 2004 and 2014, suspected terrorists attempted to purchase guns from American dealers at least 2,233 times. And in 2,043 of those cases — 91 percent of the time — they succeeded.”
We have thousands of Bangladesh refugees living in our NE border states since Indo-Pak war decades ago. modi’s rw party has been making noise for many years now about kicking them out but those states have repeatedly told the rw’ers to FO.
Good morning! off to to work early.
Moooooooooorning 57!!!!
How’s Danny doing, Chips?
He’s doing great 57, thank you! No sign of the limp, but he’ll be finished the anti-inflammatory stuff in the next couple of days so I’m holding my breath hoping it doesn’t return. How are your furry bundles doing?
Morning all. You’re up VERY early today, Chips.
Good morning my beloved very early early bird - I heroically got up at the crack-ish of dawn, but not because I’m a dynamic person, only because I’m about 9.3 hours late with a worky thing I have to do :???:
Janie, even that fella looks speedier than me - moooooooooorning petal!
 That’s way more like me!
Of course, it IS you.
This is moi.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. I think of you more like this:
Isn’t that enough????

Exactly Jackie, which is why, as I told VC, I’ve decided to retire when I’m 24. Enough’s enough, I want some fun.
Sounds like a good plan, Chips. It’d be a shame to put 23 behind you, but fun comes first. Maybe Danny could get a staring role in a tv series and support you in style for the rest of your life.
Hey, Mr. 57 provided for my retirement years by getting me a full time job with a sociopath. I should have retired at 24………
Yiiiiiikes!!! :-) I was feeling the same about my boss until 20 minutes ago when he was half human on the phone. Must have banged his head or something.
He’ll get over it and be the same sociopath he always was. From those injuries, they (unfortunately) recover quickly…….

This video is from a year ago with Reza Aslan
He is castigating journalist and Bill Maher for painting Islam with a broad brush. It was true then and it is true now.

From this article:
The Salafis are most averse to minority and women’s rights.

Just had to return for a few moments because the video in this tweet needs to be viewed by all visiting TOD - it is exceptionally important.
Note - #DAESH is the meme …..
Wish I had more time today to contribute here, but …………………
Thanks Bobfr for sharing this with us.

Freedom for terrorists to buy guns, but not for people trying to escape persecution. So fucked up.

Always good to start with a healthy breakfast! 😃
Amk, I saw PM Modi at the G20. What is India’s position on taking in refugees?
We have thousands of Bangladesh refugees living in our NE border states since Indo-Pak war decades ago. modi’s rw party has been making noise for many years now about kicking them out but those states have repeatedly told the rw’ers to FO.
G’morning Chips, TOD, lurkers, even amk, and congrats 57andFemale on #1! Happy Tuesday everyone. :)
Chat away!

Good morning TOD folks! So tired of armchair presidents. What happened to the days when everyone supported the president during times of stress?
