Morning. I miss our President and hope he comes home soon, although he’s probably just as glad to be away from the lunatics. At least Congress will be out for a week, which is a welcome relief for the whole country.

Today is Mr. G’s birthday and I am madly planning favorite treats and surprises. You are NEVER too old for birthday treats!!!!

All the people on Twitter supporting Elise Labott on CNN for being suspended, seemed unaware that she spend a good two hours attacking POTUS’ on Twitter, saying that his press conference was “going very badly” and he’s “on the defensive” and his ISIS Strategy was not working. Meanwhile, she immediately apologizes for her tweet about refugees which got her a 2-week suspension on CNN….but no apology for attacking POTUS with GOP talking points while he’s on foreign soil.

Exactly, Hope. Before I saw her tweets about the president, I was mad at CNN. But all of these people think that some how their claim to fame is to disrespect President Obama. We no longer have a media.

Df, that this man is ahead in the polls among Republican voters is absolutely chilling. Americans should hang their heads in shame that a fascist like this has been allowed to get this far.

First thing he wants to know is where the reporter is from. And it turns out to be NBC, who is so disturbingly friendly to Trump, it should frighten us all. Kudos to the reporter who persisted and asked the questions that need to be asked. I especially liked it when he said: Should Muslims be fearful? Trump deserves nothing but shame.

And this is the man who a majority of Republicans want to be President. Scary. The man is a bigot and a loudmouth idiot. His Presidency would be a disaster for the entire world — probably worse than Bush 43.

Thank you, Rep. Russell. You do us proud on this issue and it should be acknowledged and praised.

    http://www.alternet.org/immigration/republican-combat-vet-eviscerates-xenophobic-conservatives-isis-wins-if-you-block

“While I have tried to focus my comments on actions that we should take to eliminate ISIS, one action we should not take is to become like them. America is a lamp that lights the horizon of civilized and free mankind,” he said on the House floor.

“The Statue of Liberty cannot have a stiff arm. Her arm must continue to keep the torch burning brightly,” Russell continued. “If we use our passions, anger, and fear to snuff out her flame by xenophobic and knee-jerk policy, the enemy wins. We have played into their hands, period.”

Read the rest…some things may surprise you.

You should…its rare to hear a Republican make sense these days. Don’t agree with what he had to say about PBO’s ME strategy, but he was spot on with his empathetic embrace of the refugees. He should be commended.

The more I see of Bernie, the less I like him. I always respected his intellect and progressive heart. I now think he isn’t very bright, is completely tone-deaf politically, and would make a horrible POTUS. Don’t bother reading the comments, but the diary sums up my feelings exactly:

While I doubt he’ll win the Democratic nomination, it appears that he’s pulled Secretary Clinton to the left which is good. I don’t mind Sanders overall but despite the enthusiasm of his supporters, can’t see him going very far.

    Unemployment Down.
    Other economic indicators UP.

Maybe i’m just slow to the game here, but I just noticed on the presidents pictures down thread that he shakes peoples hands with his right hand. He’s left handed right? That seems like something he must take practice. Also he’s raising his right hand in that group photo, even though one of the other guys is left handed as well.

I just find it interesting is all. I wonder if he trained to shake hands right handed to avoid awkward ones with people that just always go in right handed and assume the other party will as well. Maybe this is something all left handed people do? haha, like i said i’m slow to the game.

    • 71 Vicki
      November 20, 2025 at 9:33 am

Maybe this is off the wall, but in some cultures, offering the left hand is an insult.
      Right hand is for contact.
Left hand, in cultures without toilet paper, for example, consider the left hand unclean. Sorry if that is too disgusting.

    • 73 GGail
      November 20, 2025 at 9:35 am

      Huh?
I’m left handed and it’s natural for me to shake hands using my right hand. I don’t know any left handed person who shakes with their left.

    • 75 57andfemale
      November 20, 2025 at 9:47 am

Lefties early on get used to functioning in the right-handed world. We are accustomed to doing many things in an uncomfortable way. I was taught that you shook hands with your right hand, and you just do it.

    • 76 catrst
      November 20, 2025 at 11:34 am

As a lefty I can say there is less dominance overall. Needs be one can switch hands and function. With a brand new physical endeavor it can be confusing which hand to use. Maybe that’s why it used to be common to force lefties to switch writing hands. They could manage it.

Paul Krugman made the point in his column today that the US GOP RW response and hysteria about Ebola was the same scenario we are seeing now. The subject is refugees, not germs. The behavior of our Corporate Rulers is strikingly similar.

“Keep those people away from us”
    more or less
“This country is for the Privileged Class. All others quarantined, stopped at borders—-and so on.”

Donald Trump gets called out big time at Latin Grammys

No one had more fun than Will Smith rapping (in Spanish!) at the Latin Grammy Awards on Thursday night.

But the performance Twitter can’t stop buzzing about belonged to California band Los Tigres Del Norte and Mexican rockers Maná, who got together and sang Somos Más Americanos. At the end of the performance, they held up a sign reading, “Latinos unidos no voten por los racistas,” which translates to: “United Latinos, don’t vote for racists.”

Of course, folks at home were quick to draw parallels to a certain 2016 candidate, Donald Trump, who in the past has called immigrants from Mexico drug-dealers, criminals and “rapists,” and called for a mass deportation of those living in the United States.

Very strange that the media isn’t challenging Trump about his claim that he would deport all Muslims from the U.S., that Muslims should be forced to wear symbols so we can know who they are, and that he would shut down Mosques. He’s a fascist and if we had a “liberal” media, they would call him out on his dangerous hate talk.

see from hf2 above that elise larobot is standard issue “reporter” who can’t tell any story involving president obama without twisting into a negative for him, while republicans such as colin powell are geniuses!

i see obamabot maggy destroyed larobot’s moronic reasoning, yet elise didn’t respond to any of that truth-telling of course, but did respond to others. elise can argue repeatedly that the powell doctrine, as defined by her, would work great against isis instead of obama’s failured strategy and no one at c.n.n. bats an eye, but say one thing kinda sorta against republicans then immediate suspension. crazy. yes, that “powell doctrine” was so great in iraq/afghan with the 10 plus years, hundreds of thousands of innocents killed, 4-5 thousand u.s. troops killed, and no end-goal/exit strategy in sight, yes elise, keep on promoting that, you stooge, and your career in “the news” will skyrocket.
