Yeah, he’s a laugh riot. He’s having surgery on Friday - he has a growth right on the rim of his eye, and he’ll get his teeth cleaned. He still has his chronic bronchitis, and I am an absolute basket case. Plus, we take Kasper for the consult on the bladder stone surgery. I feel like those roly poly toys that babies knock over and they get back up. Keep throwing punches at me, and I have no choice but to bounce back up and deal with it.

What I love about our FLOTUS is that she never gives less than everything she has. No matter what crap is happening in the world, she is there for military families, children, wounded vets, her family and anyone else who needs her. She has a big heart and open arms for anyone who’s hurting.
She’s a wonderful First Lady.

Honestly, I think PBO is looking at Ryan’s beard and trying not to laugh out loud. If Ryan thinks the whiskers are giving him gravitas, he’s got another think coming. He looks scruffy and unkempt, like someone who wondered in off the streets to mingle with the big guys. As usual, Mitch looks like he swallowed a sour lemon. I have noticed too many Dems and pundits (like Lawrence O’Donnell) and others are writing off Trump as a crazy who is going to implode eventually and disappear. They underestimate the political savvy of Trump and the vastness of the ignorance and hate he is tapping into. I had an undergraduate degree in Political Science and have studied what happened in the 1920s and 30s with the rise of Hitler and Mussolini. Trump has all the marks of a fascist leader with a fascist ideology, combined with the ambitions of narcissistic sociopath. His moves are smart and he is able to leverage the fear and darkest side of public opinion effectively. He is getting bolder because he has increasing immunity from the sparing press and GOP critique he gets. It looks increasingly like he will sweep the GOP primaries and assume the nomination. What is important now is to mobilize and activate Dems and Indies to expose his message and his agenda and the dangers and harm it can bring not only to America but the world. Right now at least a third of the total electorate are supporters or going his direction. It wouldn’t take that much more to bring him to power. And fascist leaders only need to win the first election. After that all democratic institutions and constitutional guarantees, laws and courts, are gone.
I agree with you completely, Bill. They said it couldn’t happen in Germany in the 30’s, and then the unthinkable took root.
What Americans don’t appreciate is how close we’ve come to fascism in our own history. But we never before had a media that didn’t stand up, that wasn’t in it for entertainment. We never had an electorate groomed to be stupid and pliable. We are in very dangerous territory. And in the past, Americans voted in sufficient numbers to stem the tide. Democrats no longert vote reliably. They are the reason this is so dangerously possible. The fringe is no longer the fringe because our side doesn’t vote.
Since Reagan invited the Christian Right into politics 35 years ago, Democrats have kept saying that it’s all crazy, as if that is enough to sway people. Trump isn’t an anomaly, he’s a symptom of what has been carefully stoked for two generations. And all Dems do is call it “crazy”, as we march farther and farther into the abyss.
We only avoid the damage if we participate fully. I’m Jewish. This shit is real to me. Here I am at 65 years old: I fought for civil rights, women’s rights and the end to stupid wars. I can’t believe I’m fighting those same battles all over again. But even less than a decade ago, I never fathomed I’d be fighting Nazi-style fascism. Never.
I agree. I was at the Museum of Tolerance in LA last week, the day of the San Bernardino shooting and I watched a video where they were telling how Hitler came to power, and the analogies you could make to today were chilling.
