        GE JackieG.

@StationCDRKelly is counting down days till he returns to earth.

Take a peek at his twitter timeline, it’s sure to raise your spirits — so majestic and awe-inspiring (and blissfully no mention of Trump, other cringe-inducing GOP/MSM):

        From yesterday.

Congrats to COS and MP! Senate Republicans have sunk to a new low, and we have to call them out. Please shame them on twitter using #DoYourJob and look for an OFA national day of action on March 3rd to call out obstructionist Senators and thank the ones actually agreeing to perform their Constitutional duty.

Sign the petition if you haven’t already. Hope I have the link correct: http://www.barackobama.com

Can senators/reps be impeached, and if they can why isn’t anyone calling for their impeachment? These folks have persistently and repeatedly refused to do their jobs and now they are preemptively stating they won’t. I will never understand why this is tolerated without even a slap on the wrist. If you ask me, by their very signatures they have provided unmistakable evidence should they follow through and not confirm the nominee.

We are a representative government and our only real power is the voting booth. I don’t mean for anyone to take this personally but because of the way our democracy is setup it makes us a lazy nation. We cannot impeach our Congressional representative or Senators but the House and the Senate has the authority to impeach, censure or expel their members. This will never happen and our society is willing to sit back for the most part and not get involved with our democracy.

This is why I laughed at Bernie’s notion that he was going to deploy millions of voters to force Congress to bend to his will. People won’t even make a phone call much less take the time to really go after their representative. Our politicians do whatever the hell they want because they know there are no real consequences for their actions. It’s ludicrous.

Thanks for the explanation, Donna. I agree with you that this situation is ludicrous …and a bit frightening. Looking on, it seems appalling to me that Senators and Reps can work blatantly to destroy the very government they were chosen to run, and do so with very little if any push-back. Sigh.

Sad and so true. I dunno what it’ll take for people to realize that power to change things is completely in their hands, if only they’d take advantage of it and use their vote — before it’s taken away from them for good.

        February 23, 2025 at 8:19 pm

I pointed out recently that “the people will march” is not going to get any action from Congress. It’s voting, getting pressure from constituents (yes, you need to talk to your representatives, not mine) and never letting up on the publicity. But the biggest change will come at the end of the year if people walk into that voting booth.

Thank you so much, Norbrook, for your excellent and insightful “Civics” posts on your blog. I hope everyone at TOD will visit your blog to read them. All elections, not just the Presidential elections, have consequences. In the mid-term elections of 2010 and 2014, many Democrats did not bother to vote and we ended up with a congress dominated by the most extremist right wing Republicans.

“John Watson, PhD, professor in School of Medicine

How has race affected your work?

This question begs the larger issue related to being a visible person of African descent in the United States. Every moment and dimension of my 75 years has been impacted by this reality. As such, I have/continue to make every effort to develop the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to meet successfully the daily professional and non-professional challenges associated with the artificial construct of “race.? This has required me to generate a foundation consistent with having a positive personal life journey, resisting both real and/or artificial societal barriers, engaging in activities that promote the success of others, exercising tolerance, choosing inclusion over exclusion, and exhibiting good and gentle character. The bottom line is, my approach to work and life are intertwined and both are impacted by the construct of “race?.

Who has been your role model or mentor?

I was blessed with two loving, forward-thinking parents and several appropriate guides, at the right time, from all walks of life and cultures. One cannot begin to realize his or her full potential in a vacuum. The fundamental traits of my role models are embodied in: “pathfinders?, “pioneers?, “challengers to orthodoxy? and “resilience?.

What could UCSF do to be more inclusive?

Overmatch its Proclamations and Statement of Purpose with resources and keep moving “forward and upward.?

“The essence of the Confederate worldview is that the democratic process cannot legitimately change the established social order, and so all forms of legal and illegal resistance are justified when it tries…
The Confederate sees a divinely ordained way things are supposed to be, and defends it at all costs. No process, no matter how orderly or democratic, can justify fundamental change.”

This past Sunday I didn’t get to go to church service because I was getting the choir chili luncheon set up. I was afraid I would miss something important and I did. So, today I went to our website and watched our pastor’s sermon. It is stunning. The title is Reality Foxes and Doomed Hens. I think this sermon is so important, I know it deserves wide dissemination, so for the first time I am providing a web address here. The address is: http://www.mayflowerucc.org/NewSermonArchive. I’m afraid that address won’t directly connect…..like others I need to learn how to bring the address here.

His sermon is about the present day political and social situation in our country. He is deeply concerned. He says we are becoming victims of what he calls “incremental apathy.” Little bits of rights are taken away such as gerrymandering, voter ID, chips at Roe v. Wade and others. He builds his case carefully, and yes, at the end finally names Trump. “Reality Fox”. In the scripture reading Jesus talks about hens and foxes, and foxes at that time were not sly, but objects of contempt. What I say sounds so weak compared to the power of Dr. Meyers’ words and expression.

I think those of us here well understand the “incremental apathy.” We see that apathy all around us, except for those who are filled with hate and bigotry.

Just as serial killers ramp up the frequency and violence as their condition progresses, so do the sociopaths in Congress. It wasn’t too long ago we were all shocked at someone yelling “You lie? during the State of the Union, but here we are. They are weak and they are desperate and things are only going to get worse. It’s up to us to stop them.

    Peak wingnut was a lie.

Can someone explain to me what is the Big deal about Hillary releasing transcripts…what does that have to do with the election

    • 81 jackiegrumbacher
      February 23, 2025 at 9:39 pm

Pf, it’s one more faux attack to suggest she’s hiding something. Just about every prominent person gets speaking engagements, but only Hillary Clinton is asked to release transcripts. This is all part of the endless right wing effort to create the illusion that there’s something dishonest about her and the Berniebots jump in with two feet to escalate the nonsense.

    • 82 Dudette
      February 23, 2025 at 9:39 pm

Their contention is there MUST be something in the transcripts they can use against her, just like the Benghazi witch hunts by the GOP. First it was complaints about how much $ she made in speaker fees. Now it’s the transcripts.

Nothing. She did those talks as a fundraiser for charity. They are hoping there will be a bunch of documents out they can parse through and find something that looks like quid pro quo promise. Hillary is smart to tell them to forget about it. And it IS a double standard.

Now you have to be afraid of armed psychopaths because a moronic state government thinks its just fine to carry firearms on campus.
