‘Hamilton’ cast headed to the White House

***

Tried scoring a ticket to catch the uber-hot “Hamilton” on Broadway? Your options might include selling an organ or waiting for months. A group of students will get to skip the lines with a coveted up-close performance of the Lin-Manuel Miranda-penned musical at the White House on Monday, March 14th. The cast will perform selections from the show and participate in a workshop and Q&A with students.

The president has seen the musical twice, and took daughters Sasha and Malia to a Broadway performance last summer. In a video, Miranda explains that the cast is trying out an educational program tied to the show — and promised to share videos shot at 1600 Penn. “You have no idea what’s about to hit you,” Miranda says.”

#Ham4Ham, the joyous, free sidewalk performances outside Hamilton that are stoking the passions of a new generation of theater lovers: “For the past four months, the best show on Broadway has been spilling out into the streets. It started on the night of Hamilton’s first preview. The much-hyped, history-making show was sold out—except for the tickets that are sold via lottery two hours before showtime to lucky day-of visitors. Hours before the first preview was to begin, more than 700 fans showed up hoping to enter that ticket lottery—a pre-show turnout of the sort that hadn’t been seen since the closing night of Rent….

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton’s composer, lyricist, and star, seems to have a special place in his heart for lotteries and against-all-odds stories. His first musical, In the Heights, centered around what happens to the neighborhood of Washington Heights when the owner of a small bodega (played in the show’s original run by Miranda) discovers that he sold a winning lottery ticket worth $96,000. His newest musical tells another improbable success story, about “the founding father without a father” who went from orphaned immigrant to George Washington’s right-hand man. So perhaps it’s no surprise that Miranda responded to this extraordinary turnout of fans hoping for lightning to strike: Caught by surprise and moved by the crowd, he came out the stage doors onto 46th Street to give a short speech to the crowd. The afternoon of the next show, on Tuesday, July 15, Miranda made theater history all over again, inaugurating what could be a new Broadway tradition with the first official #Ham4Ham performance. Now, a couple of times a week, even those Broadway fans who can’t see Hamilton—because they didn’t win the lottery, or because they live far away from New York—get a special show just for them, in person or on the Internet…continued”

If Americans could only appreciate the incredible things that have happened in the Obama White House. We do. We know. We will never forget!

Hooray for you DesertFlower! You have FlowerPower! Greetings Superhero Judith Fardig! Glorious indeed. You said it, Judith. All the deep, powerful goodness they have created and shared, Our First Family, has touched so many people, rippling out from those present to those whose lives touch theirs — nothing can undo the goodness greatness healing and truth-telling they have done. And are STILL DOING! We continue to be blessed.

    GE TODville.

Slow day here, which is nice for those of us who are hopelessly behind here — know we’re all gearing up for Easter Week, such an historic and exciting trip to Cuba and Argentina.

Of course PBO will be amazing, but am looking forward with eager anticipation to see FLOTUS’ reception in both countries. What forces of nature they both are, so grateful and filled with admiration that they represent America on the world stage.

Mentioned this on the Early Bird thread, but it’s so refreshing to see this kind of info on Twitter:

And this hits directly at GOP/MSM talking points — MSM’s “tough” questioning about ACA has to do with premium increases, which as anyone who had health insurance before ACA knows *always* went up every year.

It’s the second week of our PBS station fundraiser, and tonight is more of the American Songbook. The last half hour has been a documentary on the Carpenters. I’d forgotten how much I’d loved their songs…..Close to You, We’ve only Just Begun, On Top of the World……they had a great sound. Her voice had a mysterious, intimate quality, and he was a musician par excellence. They were the soundtrack to my children’s babyhood and early childhood.

I used to sing Close to You to my daughter when she was a baby……always loved that song. They had so many hits, it’s easy to forget . As you can tell, I’m thoroughly enjoying this, and wallowing in nostalgia.

I have been watching those programs too. We had all 3 of those songs played at our wedding. I was so heartbroken when Karen died. We hadn’t heard of her disease before. What a lose.

Fabulous post, LP, thank you, this looks to be one of the record breaking longest Broadway running shows. Hope I get to see it one day!

POTUS: “I see Donald Trump is here, still”. Remember last year at the WHCD, mofo went off his nut at the truth of that comment, and will never, ever get over it. What the eff was he doing there anyway, not even a ‘journalist’? Pathetic, beyond pathetic. And that is all I have to say on the topic. Goodnight, TOD, big hugs all around! <3

Bonne nuit. Buenas noches. etc. etc. After literally spending an entire day on site (in between constant flashes that my hard drive had a problem) I’m heading to bed.

BTW, @Interior folks, I hadn’t forgotten the recap; there wasn’t any for this week and I’m not sure why as there was no holiday. Anyhoo, they’ll likely be back on track next week.

    Sweet dreams!

I loved that. Wouldn’t it be great if these Vets and more and more across the country really helped tramp down Trump?

Like the way they also gave credit to the Black Lives Matter protesters for their bravery - because, as one Vet put it, paraphrasing, “these rallies can be intimidating, and I’m a combat veteran!”

Time at 1:03 is sad…a combat vet yelled at and told to “Go Home”….and he fought for their right to treat him with such disrespect. Glad to see the anti-hate speech from all corners coming together…that is a force that I hope will continue to grow!
