I keep muting stuff about Trump, but think I’ve gathered HE didn’t want to do the next GOP debate, so the GOP cancelled the debate.

Reince, on behalf of the entire Republican party establishment, including all “conservatives,” is now listening to Trump - even on their agreed-to debate schedule. Got it.

Trump is the head of the Republican Party, just as Rush Limbaugh was at some point or Glenn Beck.

Good point - their ‘leaders’ are so lacking in integrity/character/good leadership skills that whoever else shouts the loudest or shows himself (it’s usually a male conservative) to be a bully who can motivate their bottom feeders automatically gets pushed to the top.

Which means the Republican party will rise or fall with Trump, which in turn means that all of us have to commit to making him fall. Whether you like Hillary or not, register voters, GOTV and take as many people to the polls with you on election day as you can.

Nobody listens to Boehner anyway, so Ryan shouldn’t get all puffed up about that.

      • 31 vcprezofan2
        March 16, 2025 at 2:58 pm

Goodness, Judith, after the reprieve he’s had you’d think Boehner would look more rested at this point. Yet, he still looks bleary-eyed and …. drunk…ish. Looking at him here I kinda-sorta feel sorry for him. The man looks like he’s heading downhill (from this pic).

    • 32 jackiegrumbacher
      March 16, 2025 at 4:04 pm

So, Dudette, do you think Boehner was in a coma and just woke up and thought that Ryan was running for something? Maybe he had a time lapse thing that took him back to 2012.

Missouri - well known for talking a long time to count votes and then a recount is needed. This was expected.
      Oh hum

        March 16, 2025 at 3:12 pm

That’s fine. It was extremely close. In some states there’d be an automatic recount with that margin.

But here’s a thought, Bernie: don’t make it rancorous. Try, for once in your life, to look gracious and presidential, and say that, due to the small margin, we’d all be better served if we can be assured of accuracy.

I can’t even imagine him considering that kind of dialogue. But the emoprogs want to put him with world leaders?

        Ridiculous.

    • 42 jackiegrumbacher
      March 16, 2025 at 4:07 pm

Bernie and Cruz can recount in Missouri from now until Christmas and it won’t change the delegate count. Bernie can’t catch up to Clinton. End of story. Cruz can’t can’t catch up to Trump.

i think that it is a mistake to think of Merrick Garland as a centrist….i think of him as an arbiter of rule of law…not one trying to make law…i think that will be surpised

      • 49 jackiegrumbacher
        March 16, 2025 at 4:17 pm

I agree with you, Pf. Because the Republicans (and some on the left) are ideologues and would themselves pick an ideologue for SCOTUS, they assume similar narrow mindedness from the President. But PBO looks at the overriding purpose of the SCOTUS and wants someone who will be fair and make decisions based on the Constitution, but with a clear understanding of the impact on human lives. We have had three jurists-Scalia, Alito and Thomas—who are pure ideologues with no regard whatsoever for the affect of their ruling on real human beings. I don’t need someone who’s partisan; I want someone who’s fair.

Sometimes when I’m listening to President Obama I get carried away with his rhetoric and I start to believe every goddamn thing he says, because truth be hold he’s been right about everything he’s said. With his latest move though he’s pulled the rug out from under the Republicans and painted them into a corner all at the same time. So now the Republicans are forced to say no to a 63-year-old white guy that’s tough on crime to sit on the Supreme Court, wtf. At some point President Obama has to let the Republicans win something, anything. For me personally, it is getting almost boring watching President Obama humiliate and embarrass the Republicans on a daily basis.

Dude, they won both houses of Congress and they own most of the States. You want him to let them ruin the whole planet?

The man’s leaving in January. In the meantime, let’s dance and enjoy watching him kick GOP ass ev’ry day until then. šŸ˜†

Horrible McConnell called Merrick Garland to “explain his position,” according to MSNBC - that he would not have a hearing or vote on his nomination.

Come on, karma, McConnell is just sitting there waiting for you.

I thought Mcturtle took a blood oath not to even talk to Merrick, and he’s already calling the guy and asking him about his positions. Someone needs to tell McConnell that this isn’t a good look for him.

Those who feel compelled to explain themselves to Judge Garland, like he has been unaware of the ugliness surrounding the appointment, tells us all we need to know about them and their conscience.

Statement from the President to the Media (more or less)

I put a Garland ’round the Oval Office door
They put a roadblock on the Senate floor
I put a nomination in their paper stack
They said they’d have to turn it back
I nominated a man of worth and merit
They announced they wouldn’t vote on Merrick
Hear McConnell had his people call the judge
Said he couldn’t find his papers in the sludge
This fall America needs to wake itself up
Because you really can’t make this shit up
I started the process (didn’t play fast and loose)
Go ask Republicans: Now, what’s your excuse?

Way to go, TOD’s Bard-ess in residence! Me like-y.

Yo, GxG, I offered to be JO’B’s editor a while back but she didn’t buy in. Sigh, TOD’s writers (and prospective editors) are shy, I guess. :D

I’ve heard two callers on the Wayne Bessen (sp) show (Chicago) going on and on about how Bernie can win…….giving all the states “if he wins and I think he can do it”, he will be in fine shape. (Those states: WI and NY) One of them went on and on about the super delegates and how unfair that is-eye roll-how Bernie CAN do this, blah, blah, blah. They are as batshit crazy as the right-wing. SIGH……

      March 16, 2025 at 4:37 pm

On that note- regarding Bernie, tnmt… this is the email he just sent out:

When we started our campaign 10 months ago, sheri, I don’t think you could find a single person who would believe you if you said Bernie Sanders would win nine states by this point in the campaign.

Last night we beat all the polls in almost every state. We earned a significant number of delegates, and are on track for the nomination. Here’s why:

What you will not hear from the political and media establishment is that, based on the primary and caucus schedule for the rest of the race, this is the high water mark for the Clinton campaign. Starting today, the map now shifts dramatically in our favor.

Arizona, Idaho, and Utah are up next Tuesday. Alaska, Hawaii, and Washington State caucus the Saturday after. Then it’s Wisconsin’s turn to vote.

That means we have an extremely good chance to win nearly every state that votes in the next month. If we continue to stand together, we’re just getting started for our political revolution:

Make a $3 contribution to our campaign and we can win this Democratic primary, the White House, and take our country back from the billionaire class.

No one said a political revolution would be easy. We are up against a billionaire class and super PACs that are determined to see us lose.

The fact remains that Hillary Clinton’s lead will never be as large as it is right now. From here on out we keep chipping away until we take the lead. But that can only happen if we keep fighting, and that’s why your $3 contribution to our campaign is so important.

The whole country will be watching to see how we respond in this moment. Let’s send a message that millions of Americans are just as ready to fight for an economy that works for everyone as we were when this campaign started 10 months ago.

      In solidarity,

      Bernie Sanders

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/190010/concern-global-warming-eight-year-high.aspx?g_source=Politics&g_medium=newsfeed&g_campaign=tiles
PRINCETON, N.J. — Americans are taking global warming more seriously than at any time in the past eight years, according to several measures in Gallup’s annual environment poll. Most emblematic is the rise in their stated concern about the issue. Sixty-four percent of U.S. adults say they are worried a “great deal” or “fair amount” about global warming, up from 55% at this time last year and the highest reading since 2008.
