SO MANY WONDERFUL SURPRISES FOR ALL OF OUR MILITARY FAMILIES! MAY GOD DEEPLY BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM FOR THE SACRIFICES THEY MADE FOR ALL OF US!
Yes, yes, indeed. I totally am so appreciated of all of the efforts that POB and VP Biden and staff who made this beautiful gift possible for our dedicated, brave and hardworking military men and women who fought the battle for all of us.
This was a beautiful gift to see all of them come home and spend the holidays with their families. What a great blessing and gift from the wonderful CIC. (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Welcome Home!!!!! Welcome Home!!!!!)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I totally co-sign your statement, HZ! WELCOME HOME! Thank you President Obama, and VP Biden for showing that you care so much about these young people and their families. Thanks also for First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden for their relentless dedication to ensuring that our country will never forget people we send to fight and die on own behalf. I am glad we have a team in the WH that is more focused on taking care of the real needs of our troops and our veterans than on propaganda ribbons claiming to support the troops.
These are the things I want for you — to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That’s why I’ve taken our family on this great adventure.
I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.
Love, Dad
-from “Letter to My Daughters,” Parade Magazine, January 18, 2025
“To me, approaching the end of the war means that my students aren’t going off to die in harm’s way. I’ve already lost two students in Iraq and had to comfort younger siblings after their deaths. I had former students who were deployed overseas with the Marines. I hope I will get to see them come home safe and sound to join their families.”
Thanks CHIPS This was a great video to start this chat with as a vet it is the greatest. Thanks a thousand times for all you do GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL YOUR LOVED ONES.
What a video. it was so sweet, so special. I heard Michael talk about President Obama, and how we will have a decision to make and he hope it is base on common sense, well I can say Cindy Crawford and Matt Damon have no common sense. But I hope the rest of America will have it, and they will realize President Obama is the right choice, the only choice to make in 2012. Best wishes to Michael and his family. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Cindy Crawford’s lame. If they’re saying that endorsements of models suddenly matter, I’ll take PBO supporters like Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum over Cindy Crawford any day. At least they are relevant!
Cindy Crawford is saying NO to Women’s Rights, The Environment, the 99%, the facts, the truth, etc etc, etc. Or she doesn’t know what the lying romney stands for. Either way she’s as dumb as a sack of rusty nails.
Cindy Crawford who had two children out-of-wed lock, I don’t know if she eventually married their father but she would be looked down upon if she were not Republican. It seems it’s ok when their supportors are not christian, chase, or of high moral standards. I really don’t care what a “celebrity” does or does not support however when the RW Media points to a Cindy Crawford or Matt Damon, who disrespects this president, I have NO respect for them nor will I support their products or films. When liberal celebrities who expressed their dislike of president Bush like Whoopi and the Dixie Chicks they got death threats and were black balled at the box office. These people need to make a living like the rest of us, so I admire the ones who will speak out with respect or dislike the issues. Unforturnately we have Fox Noise, CNN, and the RW Radio that will poison the minds of the masses to not buy liberal celebrity products or go to their movies. If you decide as an individual that’s one thing but as a mouth piece on the airwaves used in a way to punish people that in my opinion is wrong.
Her 2 children are with her husband Randy Gerber, a restauranteur. I wouldn’t condemn her to burn at the stake yet. That Romney statement was in May. She may be back in the Obama fold by now, as are many other former disgruntled who have come to their senses. I know she and her husband are good friends with George Clooney, a big time Dem and Obama supporter who may have influenced her back into supporting Obama. I know she supports many great childrens’ charities and devotes time and money to many other worthy causes. I would just suggest caution with the criticisms—too much we don’t know for sure.
And can’t mention Clooney without adding my adoration of him—-just saw his movie, The Descendants—-what a great movie—-so well acted by every single actor/actress in that movie—a real life story—-and I could look at Clooney from now until forever. What a beautiful person he is.
Agreed Doster. I apologize for jumpting to conclusions without the full story. I later googled Cindy Crawford and showed she was married before her first child was born, it was not to condemn her but the GOP purity who condemns Democrats or Hollywood in general and not Republicans who find themselves in the same situations.
I’m butting in here, per usual. I don’t know a thing about Crawford’s political persuasions or preferences, but if she needs persuading, as was mentioned, she was wishy washy any way, so who gives a shit what got her goat? We need strong, resilient supporters in the face of all the vitriole, not wimpy, fly-by-nights. Bye Cindy ! And take Matt with you !
As a long grown up Army brat, I have to say listening to that little girl talk about how she feared that dreaded phone call about her daddy while he was away at war, brought back the strongest memories for me. Having watched my Dad leave us for 4 deployments to Vietnam, I know exactly how she felt and I’m so happy to see that she got to experience the joy of seeing her Dad come home safely as I did, but as so many others did not.
America is so blessed to have a President and Vice President who work to ensure that we as a country provide the strongest support for our veterans and military families deserve, and work most diligently bring the troops home as soon as possible. There is no greater gift. I hope the families of our servicemen and women in Afghanistan can look forward to similar homecomings soon too.
Thank God for President Obama and Vice President Biden.
G.W. BUSH AND HIS CROOKED CRONIES ARE THE ONES WHO WILL HAVE TO CARRY THE BURDEN OF THIS UNJUST WAR ON THEIR CONSCIENCE! PBO ENDED IT HONORABLY…THE REST IS UP TO THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ.
SUE, It is not our responsibility to stay in Iraq and take care of the Iraqis. It is time for them to step up to the plate and take care of there country. I agree with you Sue, we never had no business in Iraq in the first place. I don’t think G.W. and Cheney have a conscience.
anniebella, I read the most interesting article a couple of weeks ago. It’s from 2008 about the PM of Iraq saying the country was ready for the United States withdrawal. Maliki is still the PM of Iraq. I like his confidence in himself and his people. That is a good sign that they will find their way.
Maliki Votes for Obama
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/24/AR2008072403416.html
(quote) In a stunning upset, Barack Obama this week won the Iraq primary. When Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki not once but several times expressed support for a U.S. troop withdrawal on a timetable that accorded roughly with Obama’s 16-month proposal, he did more than legitimize the plan. He relieved Obama of a major political liability by blunting the charge that, in order to appease the MoveOn left, Obama was willing to jeopardize the astonishing success of the surge and risk losing a war that is finally being won.
Maliki’s endorsement left the McCain campaign and the Bush administration deeply discomfited. They underestimated Maliki’s sophistication and cunning.
What is Maliki thinking? Clearly, he believes that the Iraq war is won…..(endquote)
and today, Prime Minister Maliki and President Obama are still working together
Obama, Maliki outline post-war cooperation between U.S. and Iraq
(quote) Speaking at a midday news conference, Obama and Maliki pledged to work together to ensure Iraq’s political stability and strengthen its national defense, as Iran’s creeping influence in the region continues to worry U.S. policymakers.
Obama said the postwar partnership will comprise programs to strengthen Iraq’s still-brittle democratic institutions, expand trade and commerce between the two countries, increase education exchanges and enhance Iraq’s security.
That will include U.S.-funded military training programs similar to ones the United States carries out in other countries. On Monday, the Obama administration announced plans to sell an additional 18 F-16 jets to Iraq to patrol its vulnerable airspace, raising the total to be sold to 36 for about $5.3 billion. (endquote)
The Iraqi people suffered so much under Saddam Hussein’s rule. Bless them in their journey for wholeness and well-being. They deserve it.
A super duper early heads up TOD: Tonight is the Kennedy Center Honors on CBS at 9PM ET / 8PM CT. With the wonderful PBO and FL Michelle Obama and also the wonderful honorees Streep, Rollins, Cook, Diamond, and Ma. Should be fun!
Oh, I almost forgot about that!! Thanks for the reminder! I love to watch this show just to see POTUS and FLOTUS singing along and dancing in their seats. So cute.
I finished watching Christmas in Washington just to make room on my DVR. I’m really looking forward to seeing this event. Last year’s event with Sir Paul was pretty awesome. It was funny watching the audience sing all those Beattles hits.
Beautiful, touching video. I would love to see thousands and thousands of veterans echoing this soldier’s remarks about the president. The R’s have always prided themselves on support from the military, but they have always been all macho talk and no real compassion for the actual human beings that serve. Sneering Republicans thought Candidate Obama would not be up to the job of Commander in Chief, but he has exceeded everyone’s expectations and proved himself to be a true leader of men and women.
For the record so far I have not seen from the GOP candidates talking about the military
peaple that are protecting us and about their familys, hiw to the GOP intend to help them.
So is pure bullshit that the GOP only talk about the military when is convinient and do nothing
for them sa far PBO has done for the military people more thant any other President.
Loved this video! I just got home, turned on the tv, it was on msnbc because I’d watched Martin’s show on friday and left town immediately after. No one was more surprised than I, when I turned on my set 10 minutes ago and saw Tweety with what looks like a new hair cut, same style but more groomed. I immediately turned to SpongeBob Squarepants. Yuck! Had no idea these goons were still working, thought their bodies would finally join their brains on that vacation they’ve been taking these last three years. Idjits!
No disrespect to Hillary, But I will go with Michelle Obama number one. That’s just how I feel. The quitter from Alaska shouldn’t he be on the list, at least she wouldn’t be on my list.
I am doing fantastic Lisa. I just celebrated a great Christmas with my family so life is good. After so many holidays with my sons in Iraq when they were in the Army my hubby and I so cherish these moments and are grateful for them.
Hi Donna!! I’m glad you had a great Christmas. Mine was nice too. Very good to spend QT with family, huh? You back at work yet? I am. It’s slow so that’s good. No court until the new year!
Exactly how I felt about it when I saw the other names on the list. GW #2 WTH. Sarah Palin? You gotta be kiddin. It ‘s more like name recognition instead of Most Admired.
Thanks Chips for the video.
What a beautiful video with such a heart-felt family…
Thank you Michael: a Dad, a Husband, and a Marine for your service…
Welcome home & Happy Holidays to you and your family…
And to all the men and women in the armed forces…
My best Xmas gift was hearing that my Mom’s cancer is shrinking due to her Chemo drug working. Also my Brother having had his bladder cancer surgery get it all since it was found really early. Those were my gifts along with my youngest daughter now thinking of having her summer 2013 wedding on the Oregon Coast near me instead of in Turkey or Costa Rica.
The family of Phoebe Prince, the South Hadley teenager who took her own life after being relentlessly bullied, received $225,000 from the girl’s school district, according to a copy of the settlement.
The settlement was made public today, four days after a Hampshire Superior Court judge ruled in favor of a Slate reporter who filed a lawsuit to force the town to release the records.
Prince, a 15-year-old transfer student from Ireland, hanged herself in her family home in December 2009, and her death fueled a national call to stop bullying in schools.
Re: Cindy Crawford. I think there is some mass confusion going on. I can’t find any definitive proof that she endorsed Mitt Romney for President. In May she appeared at Romney fundraiser as a favor to his son according to her Facebook post in July:
“I’m friends w/ one of Mitt Romney’s sons & did a favor for him—explaining software, not endorsing anyone. RIght now, I’m just supporting the president we have.”
“Federal Election Commission records show that Crawford, married to businessman and former model Rande Gerber, donated US$4,600 ($4, 329) - the maximum amount permissible for a couple at that time - to Obama in August 2008.”
As late as November she was still denying support for any candidate:
“Crawford, who was spotted at a fundraiser for the ex-Massachusetts governor in May, continues to insist that she’s not endorsing Romney.
Her publicist repeated the statement she gave to The Hill months ago, writing in an email, “Cindy is still not currently aligned with anyone politically at this time.”
The leaping to conclusion seems to have begun with the Herald Sun (abetted by a tweet from the Romney campaign):
“Cindy Crawford appears in a demonstration video at Romney call day to show people how to use ComMitt fundraising software,” Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom tweeted during Monday’s event.
By showing support for Romney, Crawford appears to have switched her allegiance from the 2008 election when the supermodel supported the campaign of then-Senator Barack Obama.”
Until I hear an unequivocal statement from Crawford or her publicist, saying “I endorse Mitt Romney for President,” I am going to believe she is still undecided.
*Shrug* Can’t get worked up about what celebrity supports who at this point, doesn’t affect me. On the other hand if they go out of their way to talk trash (Matt Damon, say hello to my middle finger) then they deserve whatever scorn comes their way.
It sounds to me like she’s on the fence and has some conflict of interest going on. Deep down she knows damn well that Barack Obama is truly the man for the job at this time, but she probably has some “obligation” to push Romney. Maybe (I’m just speculating) he helped her aspiring career many decades ago…maybe he funneled profits from Bain Capital to her bank account for some reason or the other…. who knows…who cares…We support our President and we will get him re-elected.
Seems like the Romney camp was using her. I don’t see anywhere that she endorsed Romney. In fact, she seemed to go out of her way to say she wasn’t.
Until I see something different, I think this is much ado out of nothing.
Things like this make my day—-just got a late xmas card from an old college friend, and she ended her written message with “GO OBAMA!!!!!” Anyone in the Denver area would recognize her husband’s name—50yrs. as popular rock DJ—-know he was big with Rock The Vote in 2008—-hope he is planning similar events this time too. By the number of her exclamation points, I’m thinking yes.
HAHA…Alex Wagner just slipped and told on herself…she said “we were” when referring to how the Democrats were feeling about the president’s holding firm on the 2 month extension. I knew she was a Dem, but she just showed that her alliance is strong. LOL…maybe that’s why she comes up with such crappy “critiques” against the president. Overcompensating for the fact that she’s truly a Democrat and maybe even an Obamacrat???
Just read that Ben Nelson is retiring. I guess he’s not up for a tough re-election. Can’t say I’m sad to see him gone. it was a useless seat for us, although he helped push HCR over the line. Still, might as well lose him and let the Repubs have a seat they were bound to get at some point.
I don’t see how he could finish behind Huntsman in Iowa. But he can’t have much money, so unless he finishes top four he should get out. Bachmann should get out unless she finishes top four as well. Huntsman should be out if he can’t finish top four in NH.
I expect Romney, Paul, Gingrich and Perry to make it through to Florida - the rest will be out because they won’t have the money to advertise in the expensive Florida media market.
I have mixed feeling about the possibility of him getting out. As long as he’s in the GOP crazies continue. More candidates, more debates. And as we know POTUS has won all of those without even being on the stage.
And really, what’s the likelihood he comes in last? I mean is Hermain Cain still on the ballot? It’s probably a race to the bottom with him and Bachmann, right?
Yeah me,too, Anita. On the one hand I can’t stand the insufferable fool and would love to see him disappear off the political radar for good. On the other hand, his sheer over-the-top extremism helps shape the image of the Republican party as a certified lunatic society. But he probably won’t hit rock bottom in Iowa, so I guess we’ll be stuck with him for a while.
Exactly. It’s unfortunate, but most of these candidates would last long. Thereby denying most of the America public to get sick of them before they have to face POTUS.
Mark Knoller keeps us abreast of the most important info on the President:
Pres Obama and family at Hanauma Bay, a popular snorkeling spot on Oahu. It's closed to the public on Tuesdays.— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) December 28, 2025
Hah! The UAW just had a commercial on during the Little Caesar’s Bowl, where they thanked the Big 3 AND President Obama. But, you know, let the free market work and put everyone out on the street.
It’s a good thing they’ve disabled comments. This is brutal. And even more brutal is that these people actually believe that Newt has answers. This is part of the Newt team that failed to get him on the ballot in his hometown. That says everything.
I thought the “singing” was bad, but when the elf started rolling on the floor…that was enough for me. Off it went. So unprofessional…and I’m being kind.
Well, I’m not even going to try to catch up after being without internet for 2 days because our foundling puppy chewed through all our data cables. Thank goodness for mobile data plans and 4g, otherwise I would have no idea what’d been going on. A belated Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and may everyone have a safe and festive New Year.
The real tragedy - and I don’t use the word lightly - is the utter incomprehensible failure of the press in America to focus on the real problem - the computerized voting and vote-counting technology that can easily be hacked and abused.
THIS, THIS RIGHT HERE!!!!
Any computerized voting system can be hacked. I really wish they would go back to the mechanical machines. and provide a papertrail for each vote. SERIOUSLY!!!
Oh, and by the way, Willard “Mittens” Romney is an idiot. For real.
I listen to what the flip flopper liar Romney said about voter ID and what AG Holder did with South Carolina voter ID. This man have no back bone to stand up for anything. Little weasel spineless millionaire Mitt Romney.
I just hate Mitt Romney…more than Gingrich even. He’s such an asshole, no moral compass, and just plain arrogant and power hungry. Nothing about him makes me think he’s patriotic and in the political game for country. Not even remotely. This guy just wants to be “the man.” I don’t understand how anyone can truly support him. Nothing about him is inspiring or attractive. His personality is stale and he’s inauthentic. I know the president can beat him, but I’d like for him to lose now so he can finally accept the fact that this country is just not that into him, when it comes to him leading our nation.
I agree…they’re not touching him because they know he will break the minute he gets hit. That’s something I noticed in every debate…when things got a little hot, he would start stuttering, putting his arms out, and becoming oddly agitated. If I were on the Obama team, my #1 goal for the possible upcoming debates against him would be to dig at him over and over. He cannot play defense well at all. He will scream for help from the moderator (remember “Anderson!”) or he will give us another unforgettable line, like (“for pete’s sake, I’m running for office, we can’t have illegals working for us!!!”) All he was missing when he said that were some pearls to clutch.
Huntsman’s has some stellar ads exposing Mitt’s flipflopping and Lying. In fact, Steve Benen said the Obama Campaign should take note. And, the O Campaign has had some great ones also exposing williard.
Let’s face it, they’re ALL colossal losers. As much as I’d like to see Gingrich gain ground, I know I could NEVER listen to him for more than a minute let alone 11 months. Just can’t do it. I don’t know, for some reason I think it won’t be so tough to take Romney down. He’s completely empty. We’ll see how this unfolds but it will be Romney and his sorry BS.
Yes…they’re all losers. I agree that it would be hard to listen to Gingrich, but at least he kind of owns his crappiness. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say that the media and others make him own it by mentioning it. Romney really thinks he’s the man, and few in the media focus on how much he lacks a core. It’s pretty astounding how weak and inauthentic he is. I mean, the purposeful out of place hairdo? And his tacky ties during debates? No one mentions that, but he almost always wears ugly “everyman” ties - ties that you wouldn’t see on a guy like him normally.
I have to admit I haven’t been watching the debates. I’m just going to wait until they sort it all out. I can’t put up with the ninny idiots Gingrich, Paul, Bachmann, Perry, ETC. Their existence in this scenario is appalling.
Christmas was very low key. Beautiful day, good food, mellow situation. I’ve been working a lot on my own project so I’m pretty absorbed in other stuff.
Hope you enjoyed yourself and had some good time off. Does wonders!!
Oh, and, meta - I agree Romney is an empty suit. When President Obama is debating him, Romney will end up crying like a baby. And then PBO will slam the podium and walk off, loosening his tie.
Romney is the worst of the worse. He is such a complete and total liar. I’m not going to use the word hate, but a strong, very strong dislike because he borders on evil.
Yeah, you’re not the only, Vero. If mitt were telling his vicious lies from the peanut gallery and no paid attention to him then it wouldn’t mean anything..but, as it is he will probably be the gopropaganda candidate and all the really big bucks will catapult and mainline those LIES into the suckers brain cells. So yeah, willard’s viciously insulting LYING Attacks on President Obama Piss me OFF BIG TIME.
Why is that troll mark knoller and others are allowed to bask in that beautiful Hawaii sun and settings while they have and still are perpetrating to be journalists? I would not feel this disdain, if they had done their jobs up to our President’s vacation, I would be happy for them. Instead, I personally hold them responsible for the basis reporting, lies and refusal to just repot the simple facts minus the bull—-I am sick of the drama reality show they spew out in working hard to keep the American people ignorant of these coward, greedy, evil repugs and their racist tea baggiers.
In 2012 I am not making any more excuses for people who should no better and are not voting with common sense. This is not a game as our President boldly stated before leaving for a well deserved vacation. Because of President Obama patience and leveled head in seeing the big picture I am able to tolerate these fools who think that ron paul, newt gingrich,Michele batshti crazy and others should even be on stage in a debate. And they want to be president of the free world is a joke.
All of the disrespect and abuse from some of these members of Congress and msm that our President has had to endure and the threats to his family is appalling. I attended a rally in NJ last month WomenFor Obama and one law that Congress tried to pass at the beginning of this Administration was to allow this President to pay for the plumbing while in the WH. It!s little things like this that gets to me and our wonderful, caregiving, President presses on for us.
I just want us to stay focus, encouraging toward one another and support this “call” not just for POB,but for us as well. Ii have the mindset of my sheroes,Harriet Tubman and Sojoner Truth. If you arenotpartof the solution, you are part of the problem. Sit down or get out of the way. We have got a job to do! All of you who were on the ground inthe trenches and are still holding on strong, God bless you. Those who think this is going to be a walk in the park, do not get comfortable. The koch bros. and their money is evil. 2008 was great. 2012 is different. This is personal.
Oh no…Argentine president, Cristina Fernandez, has thyroid cancer. I always enjoyed seeing her look pretty and powerful at the various summits with the president and other leaders. The BBC article I just read this news from noted an odd coincidence that she is following a wave of Latin American leaders being diagnosed with cancer: Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Fernando Lugo of Paraguay, and Lula of Brazil.

Thanks, meta!~ The Obamas are always doing something really awesome! 180 Degrees from D.C. Those Green Sea Turtles are so beautiful when you see them in their natural habitat off Kaua’i's Shoreline.
Yeah…this story is just too annoying for me to even deal with. Maybe I should find him another person who is a product of rape who isn’t so happy…will he change his mind then?
There isn’t a place in hell hot enough for Rick Perry and people who think like him. I have always believed that if men could get pregnant, there would be abortion clinics on every street corner. But no amount of suffering is too great for people like Perry if the impact is on women alone.
I never expect an apology from these guys and at this point I would doubt its sincerity if one was made. In truth this article reinforced, for me, the fact that Pres O chose intelligent people for his administration and then he is self-confident enough to really listen to, weigh the merits of their suggestions, and implement what’s in the best interest of the country. Even if that means abandoning a personal idea, if a better one is suggested. I don’t believe GOP candidates are good listeners - they can’t be to continue in the same lying vein since their ‘debates’ started Plus I see them all as quite ego-centric.
Even if Rethugs were good listeners, it wouldn’t matter.
The difference, the HUMONGOUS, GINORMOUS, GIHUGIC, really really, REALLY big honkin’ difference is that President Obama gives a damn. He actually cares about the consequences of his decisions and the decisions of the people that work for him.
Consumers are feeling better about the economy, according to the monthly survey from the Conference Board that shows confidence levels near the post-recession peak.
The Consumer Confidence index stood at 64.5 in December, up nearly 10 points from a revised 55.2 in November. That month was itself a 15-point gain from October’s 40.9, the lowest level since the recession.
Although the index is still below the 90 level that economists consider the threshold for a stable economy, December’s rating that was released Tuesday was the highest since 66 in April.
The highest the index has been since the recession ended was 72 in February.
Analysts from Deutsche Bank said Tuesday that the cycle of “improving confidence, rising consumption, expanding output and additional income growth” may be in the works.
Glenn Close killed it!!!!!!! She’s one SICK artist! She is fricking spectacular! I felt all the angst and pain in that song she was singing! She’s fricking epic! Fricking love her talent! She’s one seriously sick woman!
This is my first time really watching the Kennedy Center Honors and I must admit I am enjoying it. Looks like the First Lady was enjoying dancing to Sweet Carolina.
Hello, am I coming through? I have been trying to post all day. My son gave me iPad for Christmas because he loves me…………that’s all.
Simply because he loves me and knows that we all who says that we supports the President have to be READY.WILLING.ABLE.
So we must be ready to tweet, blog, e-mail, face book. Whatever it takes. THIS NOT A GAME! 2008 was great. 2012 is personal.
My prayer is that everyone here shared and received love and positive feelings during this period POB is resting, relaxing and reviving.
So that we will be on our post and on guard for all the negativity and lies that we will face. He already forewarned us that it would not be easy and that it would not happen overnight. As I listen to all of his consistent speeches, I have to realize not all are lives being changed, but minds and hearts are being transformed (mine included). And that is powerful!
Press on TOD Family. Press on. We have got a job to do!
When I encourage you, I am encouraged. And then I send an extra donation just because of the LOVE.
Fricking loved that! So awesome. Got outta my bed once the baseball fans appeared. Turned my tv up to yell:”so good, so good!” got my fists pumping. Fricking awesom! What a workout!!!
Very cool—-the Neil Diamond tribute—-and bringing on Caroline Kennedy at the end for Sweet Caroline—-about whom Diamond wrote the song. The whole place was into it, having a blast.
And when Caroline did the intro at the beginning, loved how she weaved “touching me, touching you” into her remarks, since the song was about her! Believe she didn’t find that out until her 50th birthday, when he performed it for her.
I am sure that you all received this very important email from our VP!
Maritza -
I know we’ve been asking a lot of you lately.
We wouldn’t be doing that, especially this time of year, if this weren’t so important.
Folks, this campaign has an important financial deadline coming up. It’s going to be the last one we’ll have before 2012. And what we’re able to raise before the 31st is going to have a big effect on what we’re able to do next year to re-elect this president.
From the get go, we built this thing one person at a time, each pitching in what they’re able. Please step up and donate $25 today — or whatever you can. Every donation is going to count:
https://donate.barackobama.com/End-of-Year
We’ve come a heck of a long way since 2008, but we’ve still got a lot of work left to do if we want to see this country go where we all know it needs to.
This last week before the deadline will make a big difference.
Thanks so much,
Joe
P.S. — Right now, any donation you make automatically enters you for a chance to sit down for dinner with Barack and Michelle. You shouldn’t pass that up.
OMG! I just saw the tribute to Sonny Rollins!!! It was fabulous!!! Hubby is grinning from ear to ear! the First Couple (who look fabu as usual) were groovin’ as well as Yo Yo Ma.
Can’t wait to see the rest of the tribute to Barbara Cook…I must have listened to the Music Man soundtrack a million times! She’s just amazing!
Do we have any Connecticut TODers? Apparently they are having some weather problems.

Oh no, not again—-daughter and family there——they just recently recovered from the last power outage following a freaky ice storm—without power for 2 weeks+.
Yes we do! CTGirl, gc,….not to mention the friends and family transplants like me have. I’ll be emailing and phone calling tomorrow! Weird to see the meteorogist as Geoff Fox. Unless I am missing something, I think you might have confused Nevada with Nebraska as Nelson is retiring as Senator from Nebraska while Dems have a 50-50 chance in Nevada already as Shelly Berkley is facing off against Sen. Dean Heller (who was appointed to the seat when Sen. Ensign resigned). Our only very long shot chance in Nebraska now is that the GOP primary comes a complete mud slinging battle royale as all will see that winning the primary means they’re likely the next Senator with Nelson out of the way and the Dem bench very thin. The hopes being that Dems find a solid candidate who can appeal to enough folks while the eventual GOP primary winner is bloodied and went far, far right in order to secure the primary win.
Yep, StR, no ‘might’ about it! I did confuse the two N’s (not the sharpest nail in the geographic pack) Just remembered the Nelson retirement comment from up-thread and added 1 +1 to get 4. Thanks for the clarification - you often do a good job with that which helps this political neophyte.
I’d rather have fresh blood running but Kerrey would probably be the best recruit given he’s have some name value even if he’s been out of office for 10 years - wouldn’t hurt that he supported Hillary Clinton in 2008 either. Nelson retired because he didn’t think he could win re-election, I’d guess it’s because of some of the tough votes he had to make during the Obama administration - that is something Kerrey wouldn’t have around his neck. Kerrey also wouldn’t have the Bush years around his neck either - meaning he could talk about politics of a bygone era when both sides worked together, not the hyper-partisanship we seen now - might be a message that could work in Ne, especially if the GOP primary is a hard fought race to the far right.
All that being said, I don’t think Kerrey’s heart would be in it - running wasn’t on his radar, so I think he’d run a lazy campaign. We need some motivated go-getter type who will outwork everybody on the GOP side combined.
The last week and a half has brought little change in the standings for the Iowa Republican caucus: Ron Paul continues to lead Mitt Romney by a modest margin, 24-20. Newt Gingrich is in 3rd at 13% followed by Michele Bachmann at 11%, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum at 10%, Jon Huntsman at 4%, and Buddy Roemer at 2%.
I’m still watching my recording of the Kennedy Center Honors. Oh, my. What total delights ran through it! Most of my favorite people in music and acting were there (it was all about me, the center of the universe!), not to mention our beautiful First Lady and devilishly handsome President. Oh, my.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday that his government would accept Taliban insurgents’ opening a representative office in the Gulf state of Qatar for the purpose of holding peace talks, although Saudi Arabia or Turkey would be preferable venues.
If the United States insists that the insurgents establish a liaison office in Qatar, “we are agreed,” Karzai said in a presidential statement.
Earlier this month, Kabul recalled its ambassador to Qatar for consultations over reports that the Taliban was planning to open an office in the tiny, gas-rich Arab state.

Thank you for this story of a Vet and his family. Really brings tears to my eyes. I’m glad so many families are having their father or mother home now.

Threats to disrupt the Iowa Republican caucuses next week have prompted state GOP officials to move the vote tabulation to an “undisclosed location,” POLITICO has learned.
The state party has not yet told the campaigns exactly where the returns will be added up, only that it will be off-site from the Iowa GOP’s Des Moines headquarters. The 2008 caucus results were tabulated at the state party offices, which sit just a few blocks from the state capitol.
Activist groups including the Occupy movement have indicated that they’ll attempt to interrupt rallies in the closing days before next Tuesday’s caucuses.
The AP reported today that Occupy is making plans to even attend some caucuses and vote “no preference,” but not disturb the voting process.
Thank you so very very much, Chips, for that Vid from Sgt Michael Anderson and his beautiful family telling us how important it is that Pres Obama kept his Promise. It was Priceless!~
LOL! Forgive me if some has covered this already….
Lawrence O’Donnell after running the CNN story of Newt saying he wouldn’t vote for Ron Paul he’s the nominee: “When you’re too weird for Newt Gingrich, you are WICKED weird.”
HONOLULU — President Obama ducked a question on whether Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh should be granted a visa to enter the United States for medical treatment.
“OK, guys, good to see you. Hope you’re having fun,” Obama told reporters and photographers waiting for him at Sea Life Park, where he, his daughters and some friends spent about an hour Tuesday afternoon.
Observing the media crowd, a child traveling with the president’s group was heard saying: “It’s the paparazzi.”
You know, the biggest poison pill in the NDAA was not the indefinite detention part- it was the Iranian sanctions.
I wonder why Republicans put that in there? Well, Iran is threatening ti close the Gulf, which would make gas prices skyrocket past 5 bucks a gallon, dooming any recovery.
Jovie, Ed Rendell is so disgusting. He is no sell out. He were never in for President Obama. Even as a supporter of President Obama if there are differences with him, you don’t go into his opponent’s lion den and try to opine negative comments against him. Every day he is on the tv selling his soul for the almighty dollar, lying his guts out. It is so freaking sickening. When I see him, I know he will disappoint.
MSNBC uses him and he is to stupid to see that he is not relevant a dirty low down bastid.

Congratulations!!!!! You get a virtual cupcake!
Yay!
SO MANY WONDERFUL SURPRISES FOR ALL OF OUR MILITARY FAMILIES! MAY GOD DEEPLY BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM FOR THE SACRIFICES THEY MADE FOR ALL OF US!

Have a great afternoon, everyone!
Again, thank you PJ for reminding us of the great leader we have as our 44th President, and why we will reelect him in 2012.HZ

PJ, I love that quote of the day from Barack Obama.

OFA :: Moving Forward, Looking Back
“To me, approaching the end of the war means that my students aren’t going off to die in harm’s way.

OH MY GOODNESS…BEAUTIFUL VIDEO!!!!
Jessica alba, Eva longoria, Scarlett Johansen, etc…
Meryl Streep
Meryl Streep!!! Yay, baby, She is really the best actress, EVAH!!!!
Cindy Crawford is saying NO to Women’s Rights, The Environment, the 99%, the facts, the truth, etc etc, etc. Or she doesn’t know what the lying romney stands for. Either way she’s as dumb as a sack of rusty nails.
Any woman who votes for a Republican in the next election is emotionally bankrupt.
THIS!!!
She made the statement since May, so why is MSNBC in late December “breaking news” her 8-month old remarks?
Tell MSNBC I said go to Hell!
A living testimony! Water works…..
Obama, Maliki outline post-war cooperation between U.S. and Iraq
http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/obama-maliki-meet-at-white-house-to-discuss-future-us-iraq-relations/2011/12/12/gIQA9BLqpO_story.html
Thanks utaustin for the heads up. Off to set my DVR!
I wholeheartedly agree!

Idjits!
Not that I need these silly polls to tell me this but….
The most admired persons list is out.
President Obama tops the list for men
SOS Hillary Clinton tops the list for women.

And you are second Donna!
No disrespect to Hillary, But I will go with Michelle Obama number one. That’s just how I feel. The quitter from Alaska shouldn’t he be on the list, at least she wouldn’t be on my list.
I can’t even gloat about this poll since G.W is #2. Hm!
ps- Thanks Donna D! How you doing?
I am doing fantastic Lisa. I just celebrated a great Christmas with my family so life is good. After so many holidays with my sons in Iraq when they were in the Army my hubby and I so cherish these moments and are grateful for them.
I hope you had a good holiday as well.
Wonderful! You absolutely deserve a fantastic holiday filled with love and laughter and most of all, your children.
What Company, or unit are they?
Jovie one got out in 2008 and the other in 2009. I don’t remember what Co or Unit they were in.
One was stationed in Ft. Riley Kansas and the other was in Ft. Hood, Texas
Right on. May God bless them.
I hope they can use what job they were taught, on the outside.
But, not if they were infantry? Lol!

But, but, the president has so much trouble connecting with people. That list must be wrong.
Thanks Chips for the video.
What a beautiful video with such a heart-felt family…
Thank you Michael: a Dad, a Husband, and a Marine for your service…
Welcome home & Happy Holidays to you and your family…
And to all the men and women in the armed forces…
Looks like the President picked a liberal and a conservative, for the 2 FED positions.
I guess that was the compromise?
That is fine!
Getting our men and women out of Iraq (honorably) is the best Christmas present, isn’t it.
I’ll give an Amen to that cuphalffull!
Wow, Obama Grandmama, what wonderful news, all around! Best wishes to you and all of your family members involved.

I hate bullying! It’s mean.
RIght now, I’m just supporting the president we have.”
http://www.facebook.com/CindyCrawford/posts/131899560219015
As the Herald points out:
“Federal Election Commission records show that Crawford, married to businessman and former model Rande Gerber, donated US$4,600 ($4, 329) - the maximum amount permissible for a couple at that time - to Obama in August 2008.”
As late as November she was still denying support for any candidate:
“Crawford, who was spotted at a fundraiser for the ex-Massachusetts governor in May, continues to insist that she’s not endorsing Romney.
Her publicist repeated the statement she gave to The Hill months ago, writing in an email, “Cindy is still not currently aligned with anyone politically at this time.”
http://thehill.com/capital-living/in-the-know/194147-cindy-crawford-poses-for-pic-with-romneys-wife-denies-supporting-gop-candidate
By showing support for Romney, Crawford appears to have switched her allegiance from the 2008 election when the supermodel supported the campaign of then-Senator Barack Obama.”
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/world/supermodel-cindy-crawford-loses-love-for-barack-obama-now-a-mitt-romney-supporter/story-e6frf7lf-1226057937163
Until I hear an unequivocal statement from Crawford or her publicist, saying “I endorse Mitt Romney for President,” I am going to believe she is still undecided.
Interesting…either way, though, who Cindy Crawford endorses means nada.
Not that this means anything, some of us follow PBHO’s critics/bashers…
But, on Cindy Crawford’s Twitter Account (@cindycrawford), she follows @barackobama!

Thanks, FiredUp! You’re a GEM. ;P

Great news, dotster:) Rock the Vote 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overcompensating for the fact that she’s truly a Democrat and maybe even an Obamacrat???
um, well. I’m thinking no real Obamacrat would say some of the crap that she’s said. A real PBO supporter wouldn’t sell out that easily… Just sayin’…
NO ONE COULD MAKE ME TURN AGAISNT THE PRESIDENT…NO ONE!!!!
She changes on rev al show!
Another one’s going to bite the dust.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/12/27/santorum-if-im-last-in-iowa-im-out/
Please, please, please, PLEASE, oh please, let Santorum be last in IOWA. plleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze?????
I don’t think you’ll need to pray that hard
should be easy for him. I think it’s a done deal.

Any computerized voting system can be hacked. I really wish they would go back to the mechanical machines. and provide a papertrail for each vote. SERIOUSLY!!!
Oh, and by the way, Willard “Mittens” Romney is an idiot. For real.
WORD! Every day he says something that proves his head is in that dark place 24″ above the back of his knees.
Me too! And nobody attacks him on the republican side. Is that the establishments doing?
I believe so. No one attacks him because he’s the establishment’s designated nominee and he’s such a flimsy fragile fuck.
Let them treat him with kid gloves, just as long as the press does not try to block for him. We are here waiting for him.
This is useful.
Agreed. The guy doesn’t handle pressure very well. Not a good quality for a future president.
Huntsman’s has some stellar ads exposing Mitt’s flipflopping and Lying. In fact, Steve Benen said the Obama Campaign should take note. And, the O Campaign has had some great ones also exposing williard.
Me, three.
How was your Christmas, meta?
I have to admit I haven’t been watching the debates. I’m just going to wait until they sort it all out. I can’t put up with the ninny idiots Gingrich, Paul, Bachmann, Perry, ETC. Their existence in this scenario is appalling.
Christmas was very low key. Beautiful day, good food, mellow situation. I’ve been working a lot on my own project so I’m pretty absorbed in other stuff.
Hope you enjoyed yourself and had some good time off. Does wonders!!
meta - I am so with you on not being able to listen to Gingrich much longer. Oh, I just cannot stand him. Make him go away, please?
Basically, I’m not much of a follower, but I’d follow you down that path!
Fired up!
I was just reading about this. She is a strong ally. And she lost her husband suddenly last year. I hope she pulls through.
They couldn’t be having any environmental problems down there, could they?
I have to say that did cross my mind.
This is totally O/T but my daughter showed me this video and I thought it was funny, in an odd sort of way….
Ok, that’s NOT even the same video that I watched!
Kennedy Center Honors begins at 9pm est - so basically right now!
This is cool!

Thanks, meta!~ The Obamas are always doing something really awesome! 180 Degrees from D.C. Those Green Sea Turtles are so beautiful when you see them in their natural habitat off Kaua’i's Shoreline.
Watching The Kennedy Honors right nah — love Meryl!
FLOTUS’ vibrant blue dress looks smashing on her!
PJ, FLOTUS looks goooooooooooood in that blue dress.
The new even MORE cruel and out of touch….Rick Perry!
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/27/9751161-transformation-perry-now-opposes-all-abortion-even-in-rape-or-incest-cases
Yeah…this story is just too annoying for me to even deal with. Maybe I should find him another person who is a product of rape who isn’t so happy…will he change his mind then?
This is hard core pandering now.
There isn’t a place in hell hot enough for Rick Perry and people who think like him. I have always believed that if men could get pregnant, there would be abortion clinics on every street corner. But no amount of suffering is too great for people like Perry if the impact is on women alone.

Thanks for posting this, vc…I posted it over on TPV…..good stuff! Think the haters will apologize? Nah, I didn’t think so either
I won’t hold my breath waiting for the PL to apologize about Geithner or give him any credit for anything.
Nice story on Geithner. He also seems to have the long view.
Never understood the virulent hate of Geitner by the “progressive” lefties.
Miche on tv rocking out in her prescription glasses. She looks so cute!
Yeah…I saw that. This might be the 2nd time I’ve seen her wearing them! Nice.
I was just saying that to myself, she looks so cute.
Think this is good for John McCain???
.
I agree 100%!
The Barbara Cook tribute was amazing! I love Audra McDonald’s voice!
itgurl_29, It really was.
Glenn Close killed it!!!!!!! She’s one SICK artist! She is fricking spectacular! I felt all the angst and pain in that song she was singing! She’s fricking epic! Fricking love her talent! She’s one seriously sick woman!
!
That rendition of Sweet Caroline has got me cheesin. Fun.
Sweet Caroline, one of my favorite. Love it.
Stephen on!! He’s hilarious!
Colbert—-cracking everyone up—-he always pushes it—-he’s the best.
Cosby was funny too.
Exactly—-”Maps have boundaries. Music has none.”
Loved the video above. And waiting for the Kennedy Center Honors to air on the West Coast. All the comments above make it seem like a great party.
AnitaW, the show was enjoyable, and it look like POTUS and FLOTUS had a nice time.
Yes! Patti LuPone, are you kidding me???? Audra gave me chills!
Do we have any Connecticut TODers? Apparently they are having some weather problems.
http://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-wind-outages-1228-20111227,0,2254597.story
Oh no, not again—-daughter and family there——they just recently recovered from the last power outage following a freaky ice storm—without power for 2 weeks+.
I remember that now, Dotster. Sure hope this doesn’t affect them - at least not for longer than a couple of hours if it does.
Yes we do! CTGirl, gc,….not to mention the friends and family transplants like me have. I’ll be emailing and phone calling tomorrow! Weird to see the meteorogist as Geoff Fox. I’ve been gone from CT for over 10 years…and he’s STILL there! hope everyone is ok, and power is restored soon. Must be freezing there!
I’m in CT. No power outage where I am…thank goodness!
It was incredibly windy outside last night!

Great! Look how tall Malia is getting
I just love to see the President with his family. As Michelle said in their interview with B. Walters, he loves his wife and daughters deeply.
We love them too, POTUS, FLOTUS, Malia, Sasha, Grandma, and Bo.
Finally, Mark Knoller tweets something someone wants to see!
What was the tweet?
Oh I see the tweet above. I am wondering why he had to add “weary” to the description though….?
Because Knoller is a gossipy drama queen, that’s why
Thanks for this pic, dotster!~ I love PObama in his slippahs! The locals call them “slippers” instead of “flip flops” and when in Rome!
Just saw the Newt video. Every elementary school teacher I know would be too embarrassed to present that on a program! Who are those people!!!!!
Wonder if this is a real indication that a stronger Dem. might be able to win Nelson’s seat when he retires.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/obama-the-one-to-beat-in-nevada-poll-shows-136055218.html?ref=218
I did confuse the two N’s (not the sharpest nail in the geographic pack)
Just remembered the Nelson retirement comment from up-thread and added 1 +1 to get 4. Thanks for the clarification - you often do a good job with that which helps this political neophyte.
SR - What do you think of Bob Kerrey as a potential candidate in Nebraska?
What a tangled web they have weaved
Iowa poll from PPP

Would the undisclosed location be mitt romneys headquarters?
Time to give my very tired eyes a rest. G’night TOD’ville! Sweet Dreams!
Thank you so very very much, Chips, for that Vid from Sgt Michael Anderson and his beautiful family telling us how important it is that Pres Obama kept his Promise. It was Priceless!~
LOL! Forgive me if some has covered this already….

Harassing the President-
HONOLULU — President Obama ducked a question on whether Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh should be granted a visa to enter the United States for medical treatment.

Hah! That child got it right! They sure aren’t journalists!
Poison pill- indeed!!!
Did Ed rendell just say that mitt Romney is competent, but the President is a good guy but isn’t competent?
Is Eddie rendell going to be alright? What a sellout!
