The Guardian: Barack Obama’s strategists find rich pickings as feuding Republicans attack Mitt Romney …. The fierce fight for the Republican presidential nomination, which is likely to see Romney emerge as the party’s candidate, is offering an arsenal of potential ammunition for the Democrats…..
…. Republican infighting has already done much of the work for President Obama and his re-election planners. Over the past week, two of Romney’s major rivals, Gingrich and Perry, have brutally attacked Romney’s time as head of Bain Capital….
…. The civil war is disturbing the Republican establishment who are concerned that Perry, Gingrich and their allies are doing the Democrats’ work and causing huge damage to the Republican name….
….In order to woo social conservatives in the Republican base, Romney has embraced an anti-abortion stance and come out strongly against gay marriage. However, as governor of Massachusetts Romney had quite different and much more moderate positions. Such “flip-flops” are a powerful weapon to be used in any election campaign and Romney has become notorious, even among Republicans, as someone who has switched beliefs for political gain.
…. The really significant story about the 2012 fight between the Republicans and Obama might be unfolding outside South Carolina, as the US economy gradually but noticeably revives …. If the upturn lasts, the anti-Romney playbook already being devised will continue to write itself

2mins until it’s official Tebow—sucks!
I don’t watch sports but this Tebow person is on every blog I visit. Did his team lose tonight?
His team lost Yes 45-10! It’s official-Tebow-is an over hyped-loser.
I guess God was busy today you know with the sick, dying, starving, suffering men women and children of the world he did not have time to get that american football game.
Plus all the incredible overload of the praying circuits, repooooblicun-maggots PRAYING for the economy to stop improving…..
Exactly—to bring God into this like He is rooting for Tebow on the football field is really crazy.
Yes Jesus must have been at a beauty pageant or else at some country music awards ceremony. Lol
Really? Did Tebow do something to piss off GOD? I think GOD was pissed off by all the Christian hypocrites who say one thing and then do exactly the opposite. I can’t blame Tebow. I blame the Rick Perry’s and others who have been pretending to be real Christians by jumping on the Tebow bandwagon. On the other hand, Denver, Tebow and the coach, are to be commended for going this far in the play-offs. I am absolutely convinced that my SD Chargers were a much better team than Denver, unfortunately my team was sitting at home watching Teabow and Denver. I was totally torn between the 49′ers and the Saints, but I am happy we still have a California team that advanced in the playoffs. If, for some miracle, Green Bay looses to NY tomorrow, there is a great chance that San Francisco will once again go to the super bowl because I don’t think NY can defeat SAN FRAN at home.
It’s official! :)
The GOP is so childish! I have never seen such silliness. President Obama is so classy and dignified and takes things seriously. He isn’t petulant. He is getting things done. Obama/Biden 2012!!!!
Just turned to NBC to watch snl and caught the tail end of a ‘Willard for president commercial.’ it showed pictures and clips of him with his family and newer clips of him discussing his ‘honorable’ record. You know him serving as governor because it was his civic duty and him working in the private sector. what an ass.
Ps- NBC just made it up to me because snl just started and the opening clip is of one of the cast members mocking Willard. Hahahahahahaha!
SNL is trying, but even the pretend Willard is annoying. So.Very.Annoying.
I hope I stay up long enough to watch the beginning.
It’s portraying Willard as awkward, strange and a perpetual ‘firer’. He’s in a diner and asking if he can fire the toast from his breakfast. He wants to strangle the orange juice and he wants to switch out the bacon for sausage at half the cost of the bacon. Hahahahahahaha!! Even if Leroy sprang Bain early and it gives Willard a chance to formulate one of his brilliant responses to one more of his FUBARS ie: Romneycare, Willard will always be seen as a stiff, fake, heartless firer—- that’s not a word, but I can’t think of one more apt for Willard.
And a heartless dog owner. Like Rev Al said, “A dog is a man’s best friend unless it’s Willard’s dog.”
how about ‘pink-slipper’?
Our achievements speak for themselves. What we have to keep track of are our failures, discouragements and doubts. We tend to forget the past difficulties, the many false starts, and the painful groping. We see our past achievements as the end results of a clean forward thrust, and our present difficulties as signs of decline and decay.

Go Mitt, go!
I saw his sons talking about how great their dad is because he has been married to one woman for 30 years. How Presidential. I guess he doesn’t need any other qualifications. Even his son can’t come up with any.
His sons sound about as stupid as their Dear Old Dad does. :|
SNL is doing a number on Fake Romney in the opening, how he tries so hard to present himself as normal but isn’t. They have stiff and uncomfortable “Romney” in a country diner in S.C. which he says he just loves— and says a bunch of other insincere things— and then he asks-don’t we all agree that he has come off as “genuine and warm”.
What Koch and Norquist and Rove and the Bush family and so many others are slowly beginning to realize ….
And, with the empowerment of women, Hispanics, LGBT, and all those whom have been oppressed by the 3+ decades of GOP greed, conservatives either find a legitimate platform consistent with the values of a strong, middle class and empathetic, equitable democratic society or they will be irrelevant forever. Within another 4 years, broadcast media will be relegated to a curiosity, at best.
Yes We Can … DO More Together! - We Must!
Hit ‘em hard, Bobfr, HIT “EM HARD!!!
Bobfr don’t forget the “Blah” people and Native Americans…
Especially the Blah people.
:) Thank you, Bob….
Bobfr…I don’t say it enough…but it is worth repeating…I absolutely love your passionate fight and enjoy all your tweets.
I am most grateful that you’re on our side and the right side of History…May God bless you :-)
and Yes We Can…Do More Together! - We Must! :-)
Agree, Bobfr - You rock! And so does our friend “Rock”!
Firstly, very much appreciate your kindness and encouragement - isonprize, defytheodds, Cindy Sweatt, desertflower, kasai, & Jacqueline.
Dear defytheodds and Cindy - at the core of the tweet is the issue of ‘white privilege’ so I was calling out their dying hope that 2008 was an aberration - that a ‘black person’ (a person of color) could be President - an ‘aberration’ they have proven since Jan 2009 they would destroy America, i.e., all of us, to prevent from happening again. So, please forgive that in the narrative accompanying the tweet I didn’t also include ‘Blah people’ and our treasured Native Americans. I agree with your sentiments, totally.
p.s. Jackie - ‘Rock’ (aka Tigerfists88) is a GIANT!!!
Yes We Can … DO More Together — We Must!
Bobfr, I’ve said it before, but I will say it again, YOU ARE THE BEST! I am truly thankful that you trully represent people like me on tweeter! “PRESSON! And, “Yes, We Can…Do More Together.”
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I am absolutely relishing this GOP primary and look forward with great anticipation to the general election! Fun stuff ahead!
Goodnight beloved TOD people!
Julie
I’ve been following the increase of @michelleobama on twitter. (304,438) I still say she’ll hit half million by Monday/
so I thought I’d check on @barackobama. 11.9 million twiiter followers. WOW!!!!
Hey guys, I was at the msnbc website & they had a photo album for each year of the president’s term so far; so if you’re interested:

Looks like the GOP “religious leaders” met today & picked Little Ricky as their candidate instead of Mitt. Things might get interesting, but I imagine Mitt will kill Rick like he did Newt. He has plenty of $$$.
Yes, probably. Little Ricky is forced to sell campaign sweater vests just to have something to wear during his campaign. And probably to pay the cab driver.
The fifth annual BET Honors awards program featured many stars and celebrated the accomplishments of poet/author Maya Angelou , musician Stevie Wonder , songstress Mariah Carey, filmmaker Spike Lee , the Tuskegee Airmen , and inspirational coach and mentor Beverly Kearney (education). But the person who generated the greatest enthusiasm, energy and perhaps the longest standing ovation was First Lady Michelle Obama.
Obama was introduced by actress Cicely Tyson, who noted the first lady’s many roles and achievements, including being a brilliant attorney, extraordinary mother, champion of military families and the helpmate of the world’s most powerful man.

Isn’t it STILL great? The “world’s most powerful man” is President Barack Obama.
Gives me chills.
x2
Interesting. This guy doesn’t agree with PBO, that much is clear, but he knows who the winner will be in 2012 :)

President Barack Obama will win re-election in 2012.
The reason he’ll win?
He knows who he is. And the Republican politicians don’t know who they are. They’ve forgotten what they’re about, or perhaps like some isolated tribe, they’ve lost the language necessary to explain it to themselves.
Their voters know this and don’t really believe them anymore.
And that’s why Obama will win.
He leaves his Twitter info…I think that a few properly received Tweets may be in order…to correct his obvious ignorance of certain facts….read the piece….interesting :)
That’s right. Pres.Obama is consistent and real. None of the GOP candidates are genuine in any way.
Good evening everyone. Does anyone have the date and time of the next State of the Union?
Jan. 24! 9 pm
Not sure about the 9pm. As we get closer we’ll know for sure.
Tuesday the 24th. Depends on the time zone
Thanks lisaloves and Tien.
If you get a chance and have access to Current TV try to watch the documentary Two Americas, if you haven’t see it yet. Just as a tease - the very Republican couple who were in financial trouble (both had lost jobs) were sitting on the couch watching one of the Repub debates. When one of the candidates (can’t remember which one) said that rich people already pay enough in taxes, the wife said “well that’s right isn’t” it? When Newt said that unemployed people who have been out of work for 99 weeks shouldn’t get compensation, the husband said he agreed with that. Now these people were on food stamps. The electricity was going to be cut off, so he called his mother (these were middle aged people) and asked to borrow $250 to pay the bill. His mother was on Social Security and told him she didn’t have it, but would try to get it for him. He went to a government program where he received $75 toward his utility bill. He said he still believed in small government and that if government didn’t help people, somebody would. shm I couldn’t help but think, are these people for real?
That’s the bewildering nature of repug voters. Repug politicians curse them, take advantage of them, use them, abuse them, and they still go back. Every. Stinking. Time. Repug voters have no sense of self preservation. They are like pigs for slaughter and no matter how many times they get gutted, you bet your bottom dollar they’ll be lining up for more. They are so sad.
It’s true. They have consistently voted against their self-interest.
It may even go further than that. I’m pretty sure they don’t even know they are being gutted. On second thought, I’m sure they haven’t figured that out yet.
The question is why? Old-fashioned brainwashing? I will never understand it, even if we get the answer!
I totally agree Lisaloves. It is sooooo sad. The repugs know that, and they sit in church on Sunday and take advantage and lie to thee uninformed people. They have no shame. They count on this group of people. They gave us George Buh for 8 yrs.
I think they are shamed into thinking that they aren’t “good” enough. Or false pride run amok. They eat this false meme like its what is owed them… martyrs, I guess. They seem to have no idea that govt should work FOR THEIR BENEFIT.
Little CONFLICT OF INTEREST< BONER???????????????????????
wow-this site really is the place for news! i don’t find this item in nytimes, or half a dozen other sites i just checked. you are awesome, dotster!
Wow.
Okay, TODers, I’m gonna pack it in for another day. Here’s a little reminder for all of us - to continue to send the Weeper of the House these constant digs:
That’s a good question, President Obama have been back to work, but that do nothing Congress is still on vacation. Where are the big mouth right wingers at? Where are the jobs Boehner? i hope Pelosi will soon be able to say she has your Speaker Boehner .
White House airs objections to SOPA, PIPA anti-piracy bills
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2012/01/white-house-sopa-pipa.html
….In an unusually blunt statement, Obama administration officials signaled that the White House would not support parts of two bills wending their way through Congress — the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) that critics say would limit freedom of speech on the Internet and unfairly punish legitimate websites.
“While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet,” said a statement from Victoria Espinel, intellectual property enforcement coordinator; Aneesh Chopra, U.S. chief technology officer; and Howard Schmidt, cybersecurity coordinator for the national security staff…..
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20120114/09513217409/white-house-comes-out-against-approach-sopapipa-response-to-online-petition.shtml
..Make no mistake about this: this is the White House asking for a hard reset of SOPA/PIPA and saying start again from scratch. This is an astounding turn of events, and a much stronger statement from the White House than anyone honestly expected….
It will be important to continue to be engaged and to make sure that what happens next really is reasonable. Let’s hope that Congress actually recognizes the importance of what the White House is saying, and that any future process really is open. Congress has a way of ignoring things like this, and until Harry Reid agrees to put PIPA on the shelf and take part in this hard reset, people need to keep the pressure on the Senate. But, in the short term, this is a rather historic moment, in that it is a case where a loud public outcry really has had a major impact on this process. When the Senate introduced PIPA early last year, it was seen as almost assured that it would pass in something close to its initial form. Now that seems impossible.
Republicans can take that up the pipe and smoke it. Glad to see Obama fight for us and I am glad that he’s our president.
Helloooooooooooooo people, new post here:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/01/15/have-you-a-spare-dollar-or-two/#respond
I love this site. As a Canadian, I may not have as much invested in Obama’s reelection but he is the leader of the free world and as such impacts on all of us. Our national government is Conservative with strong neocon tendencies and equally strong rightward if muted leanings on social issues. The election of a Republican president with a far right agenda would encourage our Conservatives to move even further to the right, I fear.
I have an interesting question that I would love an answer for. I followed the birth certificate brouhaha with a lot of bemusement. The Right was desperately trying to destroy President Obama’s legitimacy by claiming that he was not born in the U.S. Why is it then that George Romney who campaigned for the Republican nomination in 1967-69 could do so if he was born in Mexico? Interesting at the very least.
An Obama supporting Canadian
Barack Obama is black. George Romney was white. There ya go.
