By the way, our First Lady is putting so many of us to shame with all of her activity! I’m sitting here, waiting for somebody to peel me a grape, when I should go outside for a run. Kidding, of course, since I belong to Athletics Anonymous. (Once, when I was so much younger and racing into the house during a rainstorm, my young son actually said to his friend, “Oh, look, my mom is running!” It was that unusual. Poor kid - poor example.)
So funny. That laugh and the hyperventing I experience when I realized I was first, was the only workout I have had all day. And I just finished a Wendy’s hamburgher. Oh well, at least my fingers are thin!
The top was worn at the North Carolina-Michigan St. basketball game held on the aircraft carrier in San Diego.I think the game was in early November 2011.
It cracks me up too Jacq. When I see her wear a repeat or a a remix, I can pin point when she wore it last. Or if I see a picture of a past PBO or FLOTUS event, I immediately know what event it was. That’s how connected I and TOD’ers are to this wonderful couple and administration.
That’s one more reason why I adore FLOTUS….she’s not shy about wearing the same outfits more than once for her appearances, like women in the real world do. It’s little things like that that make her so down-to-earth and accessible.
She has also inspired me to wear more color; and to be more brave in my fashion choices. I think: What would Michelle do and off I go. I am so tired of black, blue and brown; the colors of most clothes for mature women. I am having fun rocking my new choices. I have even started wearing Active Wear for running errands (the only kind of running that I do).
Michelle, as Eleanor Roosevelt, has re-written the book for the role of the First Lady. Sometimes I cannot believe the things that she does: push - ups and dancing on national TV; elegant hostess one day and digging in the garden with kids the next day; a high-powered intellect matched with a sharp wit , and arms to lift and embrace the world matched with a heart that has room for many. Next to my mom, she is the woman that i admire the most.
AS THE GOP SELF-DESTRUCTS, OBAMA IS KEEPING HIS EYE ON THE BALL
=====================================
The president is wise to keep pushing, and pushing hard for action.
Americans are now being educated, not only on how far we still have to go, they are also continuing to see how the Republicans are trying their best to obstruct everything the president is doing to get this nation back on track.
The president is putting the Republicans on notice that continued obstruction will not only threaten the jobs that the United States desperately needs, but it will also endanger their own political job security.
What an amazing, amazing woman our FLOTUS is! Her energy just humbles me. Even when I was half her age, I couldn’t do what she does. What a gift she has been to this country.
WATCH OUT FOR THE FLYING PIGS: JUAN WILLIAMS IS MAKING SENSE AND STATING FACTS
Oh boy, this may be curtains for Juan Williams and Fox. This amount of honesty and clarity about the Republican Party and the manufactured contraception outrage will surely be punished. But in the mean time, let’s enjoy a bit of sanity and common sense from Juan Williams. In just about two and a half minutes, he basically nails the situation perfectly.
VIDEO: Juan Williams Calls Conservative Panic Over Contraception Rule A “Total Fraud”
He did something similar a couple weeks ago, calling out some Republican hypocrisy and talking about racism. Limbaugh’s respionse is that Juan better remember that if it weren’t for the white guys at Fox, he wouldn’t have a job. If that isn’t saying, “boy, you better remember your place on this plantation”, I don’t know what does.
You know, I try never to wish anything bad on anybody - even a guy like Rush. But I am convinced that karma will take over at some point for the likes of him. Again, I’m not wishing it. More like just standing by, waiting to see what happens.
The cool thing about karma is that it’s probably already happening to Rush and for the most part, we’re not seeing it (yet). It’s all subtle digs that will build over time. I’m with you though…I’m ain’t wishing anything on anybody because the next thing I know, a random, runaway bus will go through my house.
I read some of the comments and the purists think Roger saw the handwriting on the wall and told Juan to get out there and call it a fraud that the republicans are on the wrong side of this…I guess the memo did not go out to all the other faux news readers. Someone also said no one watches faux business and he probably won’t be on Shame Mannity or Bill O the clown shows.
I am surprised that he’s for Romney, he used to have Rick Santorum on his MSNBC show all the time until Rick said that there were WMD in Iraq even after Bush said there were none….he dropped Ricky like a wet noodle after he used him to promote his working farm for children with cancer.
He always talked like that and I could never understand him the few times I watched him — and that was years ago. Years. You’d think his dentures would have fallen out by now and be sitting forlornly on the desk in front of him.
Exactly. This is nothing but politics. It’s not about religious freedom, it’s about labor laws that apply to all employers.
When I first heard about this ruling and the fact that there were exemptions for Catholic churches and houses of worship, it seemed reasonable to me. Then I started to hear the uproar continue and I was still confused about why there was still resistance. Well, it’s been like peeling and onion. We finally get to the real issue THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WANTS CONTRACEPTION COVERAGE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT COMPLETELY. Are you kidding me? This is just remarkable. And don’t get me started with the panels of men on cable tv talking about this issue. I have not heard any discussions about VIAGRA coverage but I guess they don’t want us to go there.
Just saw this on the homepage of my Internet service…
ATLANTA (AP) — More and more U.S. adults are being told by their doctor to get out and exercise, according to government survey released Thursday.
Nearly 33 percent of adults who saw a doctor in the previous year said they were told to exercise. That was up from about 23 percent in 2000, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.
The report also found more women got that advice than men. And among people with chronic health problems, diabetics, were the most likely to get the advice and cancer patients were least likely.
The most dramatic — and surprising — increases were reported in patients age 85 and older. In 2000, about 15 percent were told by doctors to exercise. By 2010, almost 30 percent were getting such a recommendation.
“It’s very encouraging that doctors feel people at that age still have time to live and can make their health better,” said Pat Barnes, a CDC health statistician who was lead author of the report.
The report was based on a survey of nearly 22,000 adults in 2010. The CDC then compared the results to similar surveys done in 2000 and 2005.
The doctors’ advice may be getting through to at least some people. Other CDC data has found that about 51 percent of Americans said they exercise regularly in 2009, up from about 46 percent in 2001.
However, more than one third of U.S. adults are obese, a statistic that’s held steady for nearly a decade.
I think by now you all know what I think of our First Lady. I am not trying to put down any other First Lady, but FLOTUS is simply the best. I am so proud of her.
She is the best, annie. I was thinking the other day about former first ladies and who could come close to Michelle Obama in beauty. The only one I thought of was Jaqueline Kennedy. Very stylish, very pretty. But I could never see her working at the job of FLOTUS the way Mrs. Obama does. I tried to imagine her doing pushups with (who was it? Jimmy Fallon?) and drew a veil over the picture.
Never in a million years. And beauty? Jackie Kennedy was pretty, but Michelle Obama is absolutely beautiful.
She is the BEST in my lifetime, and I have seen many. I am not disrepecting any previous First Ladies, but not one in my mind can touch our First Lady, Michelle R. Obama. There is something so special about her and how she interacts with people and shows such a caring spirit about her role as First Lady.
I love her so much, and I am so grateful to be living during this time in our history. We will continue to lift her up in our prayers, thoughts, and meditations to continue to be a beautiful angel for all of us to behold, especially our beautiful young people.
I love the beautiful fruit/vegetable display behind her. Great!!!HZ
It’s about contraception, not religion
By Steve Benen - Thu Feb 9, 2025 3:03 PM EST
Critics of the Obama administration’s policy on contraception coverage are eager, if not desperate, to put a faith-based spin on their condemnations. “This is not a women’s rights issue,” Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) said yesterday. “This is a religious liberty issue.”
As a political matter, it’s easy to understand the motivation for the misleading spin. For one thing, modern birth control is popular, and Obama’s detractors don’t want to be seen as out of touch. For another, Republicans in particular see value in attacking the president over religion, as part of a larger culture war/electoral strategy.
Once in a while, though, we see a more candid and forthcoming perspective.

Please make sure to call the WH’s comment line and make sure to let them know that we support the President and Administration’s decision to make contraception covered by all employers.
I have been reading on twitter and some other sites, that the WH has been bombarded with calls from people who are against the measure.
There is little chance of Ron Paul saying anything he did not say the previous day or will not say the following. day. Blitz should simply play the same interview everyday.
wow! she is incredible! i would simply keel over after about 10 seconds of this, but she just carries on, smiling, like the champ she is! bravo first lady!
I also just LOVE our FLOTUS, and it sure looks as if all those chilldren really love and enjoy her
every bit as much as they love and enjoy our wonderful POTUS!!
I do not comment often, but just wanted to let everyone know how much these two beautiful people
are so admired and loved by me. Have a wonderful day, all. ♥
Several thoughts
1 - thanks for the reminder to call the WH (202 456 1111) and support their stand on contraception. I’m sure Catholic hard-liners are making those calls. (Two tries and it’s busy both times.)
2 - Watching Michelle on one of the TV shows, she said she knew she had to be willing to make “a fool” of herself by doing all this movement play and exercise in public, and it struck me how much she believes in what she is doing and how hard she is working for success of the program.
3 - things take time. It will take years for the obesity statistics to show if her efforts are bearing fruit; I believe they will.
4 - things take time - this mortgage/bank settlement took months to bring about, but now it’s here and it’s huge.
5 - things take time, like turning around the economy.
6 - I believe the American people can see that the President and First Lady are working hard every day to make this a better country.
Beautifully stated. As to your statement #2: one thing which I just love about the Let’s Move programs is that FLOTUS engages such a diverse group of people; her making a “fool” of herself shows people to not worry about how they look walking, moving, exercising-I’ve also noticed that hers and Beyonce’s Let’s Move videos for kids always have some kids who are overweight, so as to emphasize the point that Let’s Move is not an invitation for ridiculing, bullying or ostracizing children with weight to lose, nor is it about looking “hot” all the time. That’s the sort of thoughtfulness which gets me verklempt…
I’m a pretty huge Obamabot, and around purity puritans am known to be a pretty vicious one, but that’s a WH worth putting in a great deal of effort/money to keep in place.
“mortgage/bank settlement took months to bring ab out, but now it’s here and it’s huge” Not according to FDL> they say it’s a rip off and horrible, a swindle, on and on. Got this hair-on-fire email today and replied saying I know who the real swindlers are!
Wow, it took me about 10 tries to get through then 10 minutes on hold to get the WH comment line operator but I finally got to say I support the President on contraceptive coverage. Next time I’ll just email a comment.
I have a friend who volunteers as an operator at the WH and she says it’s brutal. I wonder how much attention they pay to the calls since they know die-hard types are responding to a call to action for whatever reason……how well do the calls reflect public opinion?
I’ve been in a meeting all morning and part of the afternoon. I could’ve gone back to work for the rest of the day, but my sinus infection has its clutches firmly in me. I’m about to make lunch and then flop on the couch for a bit and watch golf. Just wanted to let you all know that Deaniac has invited me to post at TPV! Thank you to all of you for your encouragement.
Congratulations LL. I had a feeling Deaniac would let you post on his site. His site is great to find out great analysis on what is actually in
legislation and breaks it down in easy to understand language.
The First Lady is such a beautiful person inside and out. I just think of all those lives, the thousands of children that she and the President are touching with such love. Encouraging them. Seeing the best in them. There have been people in my life that I remember, that I may have only met once or even longer like a wonderful teacher, whose influence is still with me. She is full of Light and Joy. @>—- for our First Lady.
After watching the video on the housing settlement I have a CALL TO ACTION
Before I make this call …. I have a comment I hope will not offend anyone.
Sometimes we are distracted by squirrels in the trees.
The contraceptive issue will blow over and be forgotten, or will bite the Repubs in the …..
The way the housing crisis is dealt with will have a tremendous affect on the economic recovery. This is the important issue of the day. We need to help the president by applying pressure to our elected officials to get a housing bill passed.
Call your elected official and ask them to pass the presidents housing bill so more homeowners can refinance.
Bobfr - can you make up some witty tweets we can use? Can the facebook folks put the video on their pages or link to an article. This video will be on my blog tomorrow, lets encourage the shows we watch to feature it too. Let’s call tomorrow, and everyday until we see progress.
Thank you, WiW, for keeping focused. This Republican Nontrovery™ will indeed blow over. It’s a smokescreen after all. They don’t want the media to cover the economic recovery or the pathetic losers they have running for President.
I was the ultimate couch potato but because of Flotus’arms I have lost 14 pounds. If nothing else she has made me feel better aboiut myself!
4 more years!
I had to change Tweety, leading off with that bullshit again.
But nobody is worse than Alex Wagner, who might as well be one of the Young Turks.
I can’t figure out if she is a Republucan or a democrat!
Congratulations LL on being asked to contribute to TPV! I hope he asks you to post your now famous “Few Thoughts” That was superb. I may be a little immodest here, but I immediately suggested that you needed to be on TPV, but didn’t know how to get you there. So glad someone got your work to Deaniac and he was wise. This is terrific. Your good work will be even wider spread.
I remember reading your work on TOAITR and admiring it then. This is really the place to be. People are so supportive of others here.
OUR FIRST LADY’S LET’S MOVE CAMPAIGN IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS THAT HAVE EVER HAPPENED TO OUR CHILDREN IN THIS COUNTRY…AND SHE LOOKS MIGHTY FIERCE IN THESE PICTURES>KEEP WORKIN’ OUT MR. PRESIDENT…YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH HER!
I have seen multiple posts regarding contacting the WH to express support for the President’s stance on contraception to include contacting the WH through their contact us page and email.
However, the DNC also asked that we (men and women) stand up by helping to spread the facts about the new policy by writing a letter to the editor of your local paper. http://my.democrats.org/Letter-to-the-Editor
Chips if you consider adding this link to one of your main posts, I am sure it would encourage others to join the effort.
I cannot be first!
Yes you are
congrats!
w00t Frenchie
And why ever not?
Am I really first or is it I cannot see the other comments?
I could be “mean” and say “you’re dreaming - I’m first.” But I’ll just say “congrats!”
lol funny
PLEASE let me know before I make a fool of myself!
I love FLOTUS!
I’M FIRST! I’M FIRST!
Congrats! You are cracking me up!
Yep
You’re number 1!
Thank’s so much! By the way, I came on to say I looooooooove the First Lady too. I just got so excited, I forgot what I was going to say.
Frenchie the First!!!!!!! A nose kiss for you:
Awwwwh. One of my favorites!!!!! Thanks Chips! Did you see how totally spazzed out I was to think I was first!
We had to all “talk you down”! So funny.
Hee!
I love that top. She’s worn it before - to that basketball game I believe.
She’s really been an inspiration to me in fashion (among other things, of course).
I like that top tooo…I also love love love FLOTUS, she is just so caring and loving.
The top was worn at the North Carolina-Michigan St. basketball game held on the aircraft carrier in San Diego.I think the game was in early November 2011.
It’s so funny that everybody can relate when FLOTUS last wore something. Isn’t she wonderful; isn’t she lovely!
I can’t even remember what I wore two days ago. You peeps are amazing or I need to buy some new clothes.
Flotus is truly dedicated to her work and it shows, everybody is smiling and having fun. She is my Shero!
The kids are moving and having a blast while doing it - thanks to our wonderful FLOTUS!

I will repeat a comment I made yesterday. FLOTUS is one fine lady in every sense of the word. I love the silhouette.
She is the coolest! And I love how kids love both FLOTUS and POTUS…you can’t snow kids, they know sincerity!
It’s not often that you see a first lady “drop it like its hot.”
Like um NEVER! She’s one of a kind!!
Both she and POTUS make me proud every day!
LOL! Show ‘em how to do it FLOTUS!
What an amazing, amazing woman our FLOTUS is! Her energy just humbles me. Even when I was half her age, I couldn’t do what she does. What a gift she has been to this country.

4More.
“mortgage/bank settlement took months to bring ab out, but now it’s here and it’s huge” Not according to FDL> they say it’s a rip off and horrible, a swindle, on and on. Got this hair-on-fire email today and replied saying I know who the real swindlers are!
Video of FLOTUS http://news.yahoo.com/video/politics-15749652/raw-video-obama-dance-during-fitness-rally-28246332.html
Check out Vilsack…LOL
Hey, is that Bob Green (Oprah’s fitness guru) beside her?
That’s the guy from Biggest Loser-is he with Oprah?
That’s Bob the trainer from the Biggest Loser.
Oprah’s guy is Bob Green, Biggest Loser guy is Bob Harper.
Thanks D!
FLOTUS really keeps time with the music too…you go MO.
I sent an email, I image folks are burning up the phone lines, I call later in the day if we can leave a voice message.
I just sent a email also to the WH to let them know that I support POTUS decision 100%
Hi all.
Ok, be back later to catch up.
Fantastic LL, you’ll be great!!
Great LL! Congrats.
Awesome and congratulations. Sorry about the sinus infection, my head hurts even thinking about it. Rest well, hope you are feeling better soon.

Congratulations LL! Very much deserved!!
CONGRATULATIONSSSSSSSSS!! I LOOK FORWARD TO READING YOU…
Congratulations LL. I had a feeling Deaniac would let you post on his site. His site is great to find out great analysis on what is actually in
legislation and breaks it down in easy to understand language.
Looking to men for sage advice on women’s health issues is like going to an auto mechanic who never owned a car.
Never owned a car? Never driven a car.
Yes, much better.
wouldn’t know what to do with a hot little machine if he got his grubby hands on it (teeheee!)
I got that.
HI Everyone

Congrats!!
Congrats! Keep it up.
I hear you Geeja, Our First Lady motivates me to do better, like exercising, and to watch my eating habits as well. She’s truly a positive example
I swear, FLOTUS looks younger every day. She’s a real powerhouse and it looks like everybody had a lot of fun.
I had to change Tweety, leading off with that bullshit again.
But nobody is worse than Alex Wagner, who might as well be one of the Young Turks.
I can’t figure out if she is a Republucan or a democrat!
Lol!
