Bloomberg: The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits dropped last week to the lowest level in almost four years, adding to evidence the U.S. labor market is strengthening.
Initial jobless claims fell 5,000 in the week ended March 24 to 359,000, the lowest since April 2008, the Labor Department reported today in Washington…..
Companies are retaining workers and hiring as sales improve along with confidence in the expansion. The pace of employment has gained momentum in the past three months, helping drive income growth that may ease the strain of higher gasoline prices.
…. The U.S. jobless rate could drop to as low as 6 percent by the first half of 2013, according to research from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

E.J. Dionne: Three days of Supreme Court arguments over the health-care law demonstrated for all to see that conservative justices are prepared to act as an alternative legislature, diving deeply into policy details as if they were members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
Senator, excuse me, Justice Samuel Alito quoted Congressional Budget Office figures on Tuesday to talk about the insurance costs of the young. On Wednesday, Chief Justice John Roberts sounded like the House whip in discussing whether parts of the law could stand if other parts fell. He noted that without various provisions, Congress “wouldn’t have been able to put together, cobble together, the votes to get it through.” Tell me again, was this a courtroom or a lobbyist’s office?
It fell to the court’s liberals — the so-called “judicial activists,” remember? — to remind their conservative brethren that legislative power is supposed to rest in our government’s elected branches.

CNN: President Barack Obama holds a double-digit lead over GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in hypothetical general election matchups, according to a new poll.
And a CNN/ORC International survey released Wednesday also indicates that the president’s approval rating has inched over the 50% mark in CNN surveys for the first time since last May, when the polls were still registering the after effects of the death of Osama bin Laden. The number of Americans who say the economy’s in good shape has jumped 13 points since January, though the survey shows a majority still think it is in poor shape.
If the general election were held today instead of in early November, 54% of registered voters say they would back Obama, with 43% supporting Mitt Romney … That’s up from a five-point 51%-46% advantage the president held over Romney in February.
And Obama would have a 55%-42% lead over Santorum …. the president led Santorum by a seven-point 52%-45% margin last month.

Mediaite: In recent weeks and months, there has been much made about the frequent “rich guy gaffes” that Mitt Romney has been making …. these gaffes seem to show the candidate can’t relate to the people he wants to lead …. Today he made yet another one. Perhaps Chris Matthews was right; this guy just isn’t “trainable”.
So, what did he do this time? Well, Romney called in to a “telephone town hall” in Wisconsin where he talked up his support of Gov. Scott Walker and Rep. Paul Ryan. All good, right? You’d think, but, at towards the beginning, Romney decided to tell a funny story about his history with the state of Wisconsin and … just see for yourself.

ABC: …. Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said in a statement: ”The only things more out-of-touch than Mitt Romney’s ‘joke’ about his dad closing a factory are his policies that would give massive tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires and allow insurance companies to discriminate against individuals with pre-existing conditions. He continues to be callous about the struggles that ordinary Americas face and his policies would make it harder-not easier-for anyone but the very wealthy to succeed.”

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you, Ms Chips! He sure is a winner - our winner!
(Cough! Cough!) Do I hear an apology for all those times you made fun of my 4th place warming up effort?

And the winner is ……AMERICA….THE U.S.A. ……THE UNITED STATES
For electing Barack Obama our President. Let’s win again 2012.
So all that waiting has paid off, huh vc ?
(It was a long wait, wasn’t it amk?)
vc was po’ed at your tardiness, chips.
Me? I have been waiting for over 12 hours for you sleepyheads to wake up. :)
You’re a patient man amk!!!!
You should tell that to wifey. She will be shocked. :)
This article is great, but the next leading article about how they’ve acknowledged proof that PBO attended Uni as a foreign student which therefore substantiates Arpaio’s claim that PBO’s Bert cert is a fake, sorta ruins the site’s credibility. But I really loved the guy’s rant against Willard, though. It was righteous. :)
Hi Lisa, the woman who wrote that article is a complete right-wing nutjob - check some of her fine ‘work’ on her website:
http://www.diannacotter.com/
It’s ironic that her crap appears on Pravda, meaning truth.
An example of her work:
“It is nothing short of staggering, that those on the left who claim to be the champions of down trodden minorities (Black and Hispanic Americans), could so viciously and unjustly accuse the right of racism as it has been doing with such astounding venom in the past year.”
I thought I was reading The Onion.
Ugh! Thanks, Chips. That crazy woman’s crap left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s amazing how unhinged people are and how unashamed they are in spreading their lies and delusions.
Good Morning, thank yo so much for this article. When describing Myth Robney from now on these are the words I will definitely use: Mitt Romney: Out-of-touch, out-of-date, unelectable!!!
Test
I must say CONGRATS to you on first, VC! You’ve been trying soooo hard for soooo long  !
morning
Morning Lunar!
Congrats on your close finish!
I confess I was trying to be prepared by having a comment ready to go, then went and copied the Russian opinion of Romney and got caught flatfooted. Anyway, I’m dancing around, happy as a lark! When I come back later I’ll see if Ms Chips gave me a nice baby picture.
Have a good day!
;-)
Ooooooooh! Man, Chica, you sure know how to shut up a specie that is often annoying you! THANKS! All is forgiven

I have been curious about how the Trayvon Martin case came to light. Here is the interesting origin:

The Senate confirmed President Obama’s nominee to serve on the Federal District Court for the District of Nevada, 59-39, on Wednesday despite opposition from ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and most Senate Republicans.
Grassley said prior to the vote that his opposition was based on an incident in which Miranda Du, the nominee, had filed a “reckless” complaint against a local union in a case in which she was lead counsel. He said that although she was reprimanded by the court for the mistake she was slow to take full responsibility for it.
The Senate also confirmed Susie Morgan to be district judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana by a vote of 96-1.

Good Morning, Chips and everyone at TOD :)
Good Morn-ting TOD. Today is house cleaning day. I need to get up and start cleaning but too tired to do so.
GETTING READY FOR BROTHER TO ARRIVE THIS WEEKEND…BBL…BLESSINGS…:)
G’Morning Chips & T.O.D Family!
CHICAGO – With Republicans locked in a contentious and expensive primary, President Barack Obama has spent a small fortune in recent months to build and maintain a campaign operation that is larger, more diverse and more focused on November’s general election than any of his opponents’ organizations.
Republican contenders like Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have surely been watching their expenses during their primary elections: millions here for ad spending, millions there for travel, rallies and consulting fees. What’s left keeps the lights on, the phones ringing and the staff paid.
But Obama, who faces no serious challenger for the Democratic nomination, has sunk his cash into an expansive brick-and-mortar operation with offices in nearly every state. His campaign has spent more than $135 million on operations through February, according to an Associated Press analysis of Federal Election Commission records. That’s about $3 million more than all his GOP challengers combined.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/03/29/report-obama-campaign-outspending-gop-competition-by-millions/
We have a fantastic ground game that is being built but we must not buy into the theory that because the Repubs don’t that we will automatically beat them. For one thing, they are better election day voters than Dems are. They have FOX news and conservative radio in every pocket of the country pounding away at them day in and day out as election day nears to get out and vote. Where Dems have to be prodded, cajoled, stroked and hand held all the way to the polls to go vote. We have to spend millions to build an operation that will get our side to the polls otherwise we wouldn’t even be in this fight. 2008 had an historic, phenomenal candidate who was far superior to what we had been subjected to for 8 years. Now, we still have a phenomenal candidate but Dems will have to be convinced to get back to the polls with the same since of urgency. It shouldn’t be that way but the O’Campaign is working hard to make sure they can get them there come election day.
Maybe tell all the Democrats that democratic and republican Presidents, nominate JUDGES.
OFA volunteers are being trained on persuasive techniques for phonebanking. Believe me, OFA is on it.
My sister is loving her OFA training and volunteering in NC!
what we all should know is that gains hard fought for and won can be lost…we must ever DEFEND our rights and gains won/because those opposing forces never tire in their attempts to dismantle the rights that were won/Just look around the country at the sytematic chipping away of civil rights…workers rights…womens rights/at the systematic barrage of falsehoods and distortions with a goal to cause fear and mislead…that play to worst in us…
we must ALWAYS be vigilant and keep our marching boots nearby….
Presssssssssssssssss ON!!
I AM NO WAYS TIRED!!
Agreed….we must keep marching and protecting our rights to our dying day. We must never allow the conservatives or any party dismantle these fundamental rights.
“She’s the best looking face of us all.”—-S.C. Atty. Gen. explaining how Fl. Atty. Gen., Pam Bondi became the unofficial spokeswoman for the states challenging the healthcare law. Rumored to be a camera hog, I was curious about her after seeing her nauseating appearance on CNN the other night. She came from FOXNews, surprise-surprise, campaigned on promise to “kill the bill”, her office solely focused on repealing “Obamacare”, BFF with tea party and Michele Bachmann.

KEYSTONE, S.D. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha showed a hankering for history and a bit of a sweet tooth during a visit to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. The Obamas on Wednesday stopped at the Turtle Town old-fashioned fudge and ice cream shop in nearby Keystone, where manager Deb Splinter served them treats.”I’d had a strange call earlier asking if we were open and when we closed,” Splinter told the Rapid City Journal (http://bit.ly/GYQ3Z6 ). “And they asked if they got here at 3:30 they’d be OK. I said sure.”It was nice, really nice seeing her and the girls,” Splinter said. “We had fudge and ice cream, and we all sat and visited. The girls were very sweet.”The First Family spent more than 30 minutes in the cozy eating area of the store, while local, state and federal law officers stood guard and managed traffic outside. Across the street from the shop, Christopher Hoskin and Theresa Parson of Bremerton, Wash., snapped pictures.”What are the odds of that — us being at the same place at the same time they were,” Parson said.Visitors Mirjam Doek of Carman, Manitoba, Canada, and her brother Bert Doek, of the Rotterdam area in the Netherlands, also got the chance to catch a glimpse of the Obamas and snap pictures.”It was exciting and interesting,” Bert Doek said

ANY pictures?
I personally am looking forward to seeing Daddy’s face chiseled into that stone…
Obama Foodarama has the story and a picture. They then went to Las Vegas. They will end up in Los Angeles because she will be presenting an award Saturday night at Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. They may not come back until Sunday. Easter Egg Roll on Monday.
I think that is nice that the girls will get to go to Nick Kids Choice Awards. Easter egg roll is Monday, I always enjoy seeing that, seeing POTUS trying to help the smallest child roll their Easter egg to the finish line.
I am completely steamed about the R’s voting down the Violence Against Women Act, which Jo Biden spoke of so proudly at the 2008 convention. Any ideas on how to make every women in America aware of this outrage? I’d love to see a national ad campaign and I hope VPOTUs starts talking about it on the campaign trail. This is all part of the same “let them die” attitude that Rachel talks about in the video. These b******ds dont’ care how many women die as a result of their bigotry. They object to provisions for native Americans and GLBTs because it’s okay if people they don’t happen to like get beaten up and die. If masses of people around the country aren’t completely revolted about his, then they are sick and twisted human beings. I have to believe that women across American would fight back against this if they knew it was happening. What are other people doing about getting the news out?
Tweet DWS your concerns. She will respond to you!
This is for LL on that free speech thingy.
One of France’s foremost parfumiers has been found guilty of making racist comments by a court in Paris.
Jean-Paul Guerlain was fined 6,000 euros (£5,000) over the remarks, which were broadcast in 2010.
Guerlain used the French term “negre”, a racial slur, and implied that black people were lazy, when he explained how he worked hard to create a perfume.
He apologised to France’s black community during the trial, describing his remarks as “imbecilic”.
Guerlain made the comments during a 2010 interview on France-2 television, in which he was explaining how he made his famous Samsara perfume.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-17546745
Contrast this with the american rwnj’s like limpall making millions out of hate speech.
Just read that amk, what a repulsive man - but it was excellent to see him prosecuted.
And I loved seeing this guy have his life screwed earlier this week: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/student-who-mocked-fabrice-muamba-on-twitter-is-jailed-7591032.html
Apparently he was just three months away from graduating at Swansea University - but they’ve thrown him out. Good on them.
I’m a definite ‘with rights come responsibility’ kind of gal, if freedom of speech is used to incite hate then I want to see the haters pay for abusing their ‘freedom’.
Yup, european style democracy is way better than the american model in this case.
Wish we had that in the US but they’d have to build more prisons.
THE GOP LACK OF PASSION FOR MITT ROMNEY
“Romney’s adequate, there’s no one else, so let’s get this over with.”
Rubio backs Romney with tepid praise
Bt Steve Benen
—————————————————————-
The senator spoke at length and with great passion about why he detests President Obama, and similarly, went on and on about the perils of a prolonged nomination fight, but when touting the man he wants to be leader of the free world next year, Rubio came up with one underwhelming sentence.
This isn’t a good sign. What’s more, it appears to be part of a pattern.
Remember, last week Jeb Bush threw his support to Romney — in a press release, with no public statement — with generic praise. The former Florida governor said he supports Romney, not because he’s a visionary leader for our times, but because 34 states have held primaries and caucuses, so it seems like as good a time as any to “unite.”
Rubio’s remarks on Fox News were similar: Romney’s fine, but what really matters is wrapping up the process and attacking the president.

I guess now that there is damning video evidence, coupled with the fact that Professional hire Joe Oliver failed to work his “black magic” for lil’ George, the Zimmerman family is coming out in the media to try to convince America that George is innocent (while spewing racist hateful rhetoric about President Obama and the NAACP). Tonight Piers Morgan is interviewing Zimmerman’s brother. More platform for him to spew his anti-Obama hate while confessing George’s innocence? America isn’t that stupid.
So this piers punk doesn’t want to ‘interview’ anyone from the victim’s family,I guess?
Didn’t Piers used to work for a Reality Show?
Uh huh, uh huh!
Soon, all Pundits will be former Reality show judges.
In fact, Christine Auguliera now works for MSNBC. Where she asks all her guests to sing.
Jovie, Piers Morgan is clearly on the side of Trayvon, I have switched over to his show on countless nights and Piers is completely aghast about the stand your ground laws and the death of Trayvon. Do we have to demonize people all the time? BTW he interviewed Trayvon’s family last night, very respectfully
edwina, count me on the side of “not demonizing” the opposition, whoever it may be, and whatever nonsense they may be spewing. When I was younger, I once saw Dr. Maya Angelou on TV, when she said evil draws everyone and everything down to its own level. I’ve never forgotten that.
On the other hand, Piers Morgan, no matter who’s side he’s on in this particular circumstance, is a twit. Sometimes, he may be “our” twit, sometimes, he may be “theirs”. But his twit-ness cannot be denied.
That being said, yes, please everyone — let’s try to stay away from the demonization, as edwina has said. (Calling Piers a twit isn’t demonizing, is it?)
And can we stop demoralizing jovie,
Thanks!!!
{{{{{Jovie}}}}}} :( Can’t imagine you ever demoralized…you are non-stop information and energy! If you get demoralized, there’ s no hope for the rest of us!!
I am not trying to demoralize you, jovie, honestly. But personally on a site that honors President Obama, I feel I honor him the most by “being the change” and that doesn’t mean don’t push back on the nonsense but I can’t being hating on people all the time, it’s exhausting and warps my soul.
As per Piers, I am not a fan but I watched last night and he was 100% on the side of Trayvon. What I am saying is that sometimes people do get it right and when they do, why not choose to thank them and applaud them. That’s how we get change in this world.
Jovie, you are a great contribution to this site and thanks for trying to understand what I am saying and this is not an attempt to demonize you.
Lol! It was not my post! Blame me, I don’t care. It’s getting old.
piers is a third rate pos hack from murdock sty. he did one good interview doesn’t alter that fact. Calling out for what he is, is not demonozing.
I want to see George Zimmerman and his broken nose.
Mark Halprin doesn’t let the facts stand in the way of his fantasy. He has a bit up saying how Republicans are optimistic about re-taking the White House, it makes no sense of course, he did throw in for good measure how the Dems are optimistic, too. Further down on the page he said the President Budget was rejected; however it wasn’t his budget it was a gimmick by the Republicans. This man has cease being creditable a long time ago.
I was watching him this morning on Morning Mika.
His body language tells me he has no self confidence and just says things to get a reaction.
Me thinks, he works for the RNC. He consistently has a very small audience, he tries to impress.
HE LOST CREDIBILITY WITH BE WHEN HE CALLED THE PRESIDENT A “D”
Big time.
heh heh heh….;)
I can’t even stand to look at Mark Halperin, so I don’t. And same goes for Morning Joke.

Constitutional Scholar: HCR Outcome ‘Impossible’ To Predict
Erwin Chemerinsky, a constitutional law professor at UC Irvine, weighed in after the final Supreme Court oral arguments Wednesday on the health care reform law.
He wrote in an email to TPM:
I think that it is impossible from the oral arguments to predict what the Court will do. It seems that the Court is not likely to dismiss on jurisdictional grounds and not likely to strike down the whole statute. But as to the constitutionality of the individual mandate, Justice Kennedy asked hard questions of both sides and it is impossible to predict his vote based on these questions. I have predicted from the outset that the Court would uphold the individual mandate and I continue to believe this will be the result.
yep. we don’t know until their verdict comes really. so i’m just going to see what happens. but i am tweeting #SCOTUS when i get the chance - OK back to work. :-)
Chemerinsky is the creme de la creme when it comes to Constitutional Law. I believe he is correct in his prediction.

No, the winner gets to kick his sorry a$$ repeatedly. Much more rewarding.
Can’t wait to see Michelle’s appearance on The Biggest Loser! I haven’t watched that show in a minute, but I will definitely tune in to see my FLOTUS.
On a related note, an anecdote: I was in the nail salon this past Tuesday after taking the afternoon off. There was just another customer and me, along with about 8 nail techs in the salon. The re-run of Ellen’s show with Michelle came on — the one where they have the push-up contest. Every single worker in the salon (all Asian, by the way) smiled, laughed, oohed and aahed at our First Lady. One of the techs said — “Man, she’s so awesome!” They thought she was pretty and funny — I was as personally proud as if she was my big sister (is that silly?).
politicaljunkessa, Listen to me, you are not silly, no way, no how. I feel the same way about our First Lady.
:-)
Though not the kind of program he normally views, The Biggest Loser is one of hubby’s favorites shows. I was giddy when I saw that the FLOTUS was going to be appearing! Love her so much!
I think FLOTUS is an absolute goddess and would watch her read the yellow pages, but even she might not be enough to get me to tune back in. This has been the worst season TBL has had with some really hateful contestants. I thought Vicky and Heba from a few seasons back were hell on wheels, but they seemed like saints compared to this crop. I had to bail after episode 5-6 because instead of being inspired I ended up pissed off. I hope the contestants are appreciative of this opportunity at any rate.
Not silly..I would have been the same way. And, ready to protect her if anyone said anything they would be regurgitating from hatemongers inc.
So glad you go to such a bright nail salon!
Heads up everyone:
10:45 AM EDT: President Obama Speaks on Congressional Vote Concerning Oil Companies
http://www.whitehouse.gov/live
http://edition.cnn.com/video/flashLive/live.html?stream=4
I think it’s hilarious how, now that the President and Democrats have embraced the term “Obamacare” the right-wing is dropping it like a scalding hot potato. So juvenile. Outwitted once again!
Oh PJ i have not noticed that, What is the Right calling it now? That is very, very funny! Obama really does care! I hope 20 or 30 years from now obamacare will still be around and it’ll be a huge success and I will be so proud to hear it called obamacare without any negativity attatched to it. When that happens I will think back to these times.
Anything but: the healthcare law, ACA, health reform….. socialism, evil, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah….. but they’re starting to back away from Obamacare — can’t be giving the President any credit,
On a related note. Ever notice that since President Obama began wearing his flag pin, it has mysteriously disappeared from Republican lapels? Doonesbury had a strip once of a panicked Republican legislator whose pin got lost. His wife asked, “Do you want me to get the one on your pajamas?”
am I locked out again?
No! Good morning!
Good morning jacquelineoboomer, Chips, and all the TOD family. WP is making me log in everyday…whats up with that?
Hi jojo!
I see you, President Obama, making remarks on my little ol’ teevee about oil subsidies. With you all the way, sir!
The senate is supposed to vote on the bill today. Let’s see what happens :)
And I just filled my tank 3/4 on the way to work, regular, $4.25 per gallon, more than $50 bucks. Huh, I better work a few more hours today….
EXXON is running an ad with the AA actor with the great voice…( can’t think of his name )…but the ad mentions the keystone pipeline and thousands of jobs…..
How dishonest….
So the do nothing Congress has a choice, and knowing them they will do what they have been doing all along…..Nothing.
I turn that add off every time it comes on. It has been running for a year.
I noticed that ad a few days ago. Very dishonest.
Are the sc hearing on ACA over already or is it continuing today also ?
Over and out.
Yesterday was the last day. They had to conduct 6 hours of arguments over a 3-day period. They will report their decision in June.
Thank jeebus. No more effing pundtwitry.
They take a secret straw poll today on how they will vote!
That will get leaked, sometime.
Also, the liberal judges will let the administration know how this vote went.
It’s funny. China economy is losing steam, Europe is in a depression, and the US has exported more oil than imported, for the first time in decades.
Not to mention, oil has stayed at or around 1.06 for over three weeks.
So, I just proved demand is down, then why the heck us gas going up 2 cents per day?
I THINK PBO’S ‘WATCH GROUP’ THAT HE INITIATED WILL FIND SOME ANSWERS TO THAT QUESTION. IT WAS GREAT TO SEE HIM ON HOME GROUND TODAY…:). ANYONE WITH ANY COMMON SENSE KNOWS THAT DRILLING IS NOT THE TOTAL ANSWER AND WE HAVE TO FIND ALTERNATIVE SOURCES OF ENERGY. HOWEVER…THOSE WHO INVEST IN THE OIL GAMES DON’T LIKE TO HEAR THAT. AND…THE PRESIDENT WOULD NOT HAVE TO REPEAT THIS ADVICE SO OFTEN IF IT WERE ANY OTHER PRESIDENT. THE ‘OTHERS’ ARE OUT TO EXASPERATE AND FRUSTRATE EVERYTHING HE SAYS OR TRIES TO DO IN THIS COUNTRY. WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE HIM IN OFFICE.. WE ARE NOT BLESSED TO HAVE ‘THE OTHERS’ AND THEY TRULY DISGUST ME! MAY GOD DEEPLY BLESS PBO FOR HIS NEVER ENDING PATIENCE AND CALM LEADERSHIP IN A COUNTRY THAT FRANKLY…IS NOT WORTHY OF HIM!
True.
The market prices are on futures. I think they are in May now. Yesterday the price dropped to $105 a barrel because a weekly report showed that supply was unexpectedly higher indicating that demand may be decreasing. Rightwingers are always harping on how we’ll have $10.00 gas, but prices have been pretty steady lately.
No, out here they have just gone steadily up, from $3.79 in early Feb, to $4.25 today. Last week regular was at $4.15. But here in WA we have a tax levied on petrol, helps with highways and supports The Pothole Rangers, because most of our thoroughfares are one bing long connected pothole…. Or so my car tells me!
Steady for the May futures. Today’s gas prices were determined a couple of months ago. Today’s market prices will show up in May. And Pamela’s gas will be higher than some other areas because of the extra tax. Worldwide gas prices rise and fall in synch, but Europe and other countries are higher likely due to taxes.
Off topic but I was blown away this morning reading a tweet about The President’s life story. I don’t know how to send it here but I did retweet it hoping some smartpants will post it here. It was originally from Fogbow. Tweeted by Texas4obama..Please find and post. You’ll love the Pres even more. So much new information. Explains so much about the real Barack Obama.
Massive Gas Leak Could Be the North Sea’s Deepwater Horizon
A natural gas well in the North Sea 150 miles off Aberdeen, Scotland, sprung a massive methane leak on March 25. The 238 workers were all safely evacuated. But the situation is so explosive that an exclusion zone for ships and aircraft has been set up around the rig, reports the Mail Online. And nearby rigs have been evacuated, reports the New York Times:
Royal Dutch Shell said it closed its Shearwater field, about four miles away, withdrawing 52 of the 90 workers there; it also suspended work and evacuated 68 workers from a drilling rig working nearby, the Hans Deul.
But that’s not the worst of it. The platform lies less than 100 yards/meters from a flare that workers left burning as crew evacuated. The French super-major oil company owner of the rig, Total, dismissed the risk, while the British government claimed the flame needs to burn to prevent gas pressure from building up.

The senate is voting on cloture now (live CSPAN 2) for the bill to repeal big oil subsidies and tax breaks. Looks like the GOP is trying to filibuster AGAIN. We’ll see.
That will not pass and another 1 million in the coffers, for McConnell!
And 20 million fewer votes for Robney, senate and house Repubs in Nov 2012.
They voted on cloture on the 26th….it was 92-4….
3 Dems voted NO.
NAYs —4
Begich (D-AK)
Inhofe (R-OK)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Nelson (D-NE)
Does it mean good or bad ? These archaic senate votes are hard to understand.
I think that it will not pass today……all those yes votes were just to get this off the table.
It won’t pass without all of the democrats, so no.
Apparently that vote for cloture that passed was for allowing debate. I’m glad that C-Span puts up an explanation of what they are voting on. Otherwise I would be completely lost. Today’s was for cloture on a final vote and it didn’t pass.
When I tuned in, Sen. Vitter (LA)-number one creep in the Senate and I hit the mute button-had up a blow up of the picture of President Obama supposedly bowing to the Saudi king. I listened because I was curious what he had to say. Lie after lie after lie. I would say that it should not be allowed to have such lies put into the official record, but there were no objections.
Sen. Mendenez (sp?) (NJ) had some interesting charts. The top 5 oil companies had record profits, were given huge subsidies and at the same time produced less oil-even though overall oil production is up. The bill was to cut subsidies to these top 5.
Claire McCaskill (MO) gave a passionate speech afterwards highlighting how the Republicans have been moaning about spending, but refuse to cut off this huge, unnecessary expenditure.
Both Snowe and Collins voted “aye.”
Landrieu, Webb, Ben Nelson “no.”
I would love to know who those Senators met with this week…
I am totally confuse….I thought they voted on cloture a couple days ago…….
This goes down 51-47….
First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha, on a Spring Break vacation, Wednesday visited the Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota and touched down in Las Vegas after that. On Friday Mrs. Obama hits San Francisco for a fund-raiser to benefit the Obama re-election drive.
The Obama daughters are on vacation from their Sidwell Friends school until Monday
Warning - the usual snark from Lynn Sweet: http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2012/03/michelle_obama_malia_sasha_on.html
Lynn Sweet is a dried up old prune who must complain about the Obamas. This just goes to show you that some people will run their mouth regardless what the Obamas do. The First Lady had some fund raisers to do, then she will appear on Nick Kids Choice Awards show, so the girls was out of school and they plan a little vacation for the Obama ladies. I hope they enjoy themselves. “F” Lynn Sweet.
I love Michelle doesn’t let the haters stop her from living her life. No matter what the Obama’s do someone is going to be negative so you might as well enjoy your life (you only live once that’s the motto YOLO). And I can just say if I had access to a private plane I’M USING IT.
I love FLOTUS because, yes she is the First Lady of the United States, but her most important job is to be Mother to Malia and Sasha, and I love and respect her for that. She want to make sure that her kids are okay, having a normal life. As I said before, “F” Lynn SourSweet.
I wonder how many snarky “sweet Columns” Ms. Lynn wrote about Laura Bush and the Bush daughters from 2000-2008.
Let’s ask her that very question.
I already did. Though the comment is under ‘moderation’. Bet it won’t show up.
Fun and funny Aziz Ansari appearance on Jimmy Fallon telling about meeting President Obama—it’s a gem:
Is “adorable” the right word? Because that’s what it was…friggin’ adorable… :)
Money quote and the reason Myth won’t beat President Obama in 2012, “he acts like I would act if I were the President.” If you want to be the leader of the Free World, please act like you are human and connect with those who will be voting for you to become the leader of the Free World. I loved that interview and it didn’t hurt that Jimmy Fallon my other husband was the interviewer.
dotster3 this was just great. I laugh and laugh. One thing about it both POTUS and FLOTUS has great sense of humor.
That was hysterical!!
That was so cool…our president is the coolest ever. He can be serious, funny, playful,a man for all the people. That’s why it pains me when I see people who act so rude and disrespectful towards him like the little old lady Liberal Librarian mentioned up thread, if she met him in person she would change her mind I am sure of it. That smile of his is so dazzling and disarming.
Question: That video that Chips posted from the DNC that shows the subliminal ad…the principal image was of Ahmadinejad, yes?
That’s right Tien Le, yep.
thx.
So far today, I have gotten fundraising letters from DWS, Michelle Obama and Joe Biden.
Have you guys gotten any?
Yes, and I am getting ready to send in alittle something to the Obama for America campaign.
Yes, from all three. The fundraising deadline is drawing near and I always get a bunch of email solicitations from the campaign around those times. I don’t mind them so simply ignore them if I’ve already contributed for the month.
I need to donate. need to transfer some funds to my personal bank account from our business account.
Ys, several a day, I do what I can. I have already given more than $100 this week, cause I really want to see some Dem governors elected, and I really really really want collegekay to speak with PBO! hope I don’t go broke, but it would be worth it to see a Democratic Sweep from the top down in November! I don’t worry about it, it will all work out, somehow. I know it in my heart.
yep. joe
I get 2 or 3 every day and then more from DCCC.
desertflower-hang in there Hon. This site needs you.
I have had this pollyannaish idea that we have a Supreme Court that should rise about politics and make decisions based on the law and what is best for the country. When they passed the “Corporations are People my Friends” ruling I knew it was time to put my rose colored glasses away. People like Thomas will not even have to read any papers, listen to arguement, do any study, or spend one minute in reflection. His decisions are based only on Koch brother’s agenda. He might as well go on vacation and just show up to vote. He isn’t really an old guy either, so we are stuck with him for a long time.
A professor of Christian education at well-known, ultra-conservative, evangelical Christian Wheaton College in Illinois was fired for possession of child porn:

oh dear…
Who has half a dozen computers in their home…..????
I drive by that mega church every once in awhile and it gives me the creeps.
TOD Family please continue to urge your friends, twitter followers, and your dog (lol) to donate $3 or more to PBO!
Thanks!

Already did Kay. And thank you for the thank you note you sent.
Oh, and I expect a fully detailed account of your phone call from PBO.
Oh geez, get me off the insanity train. Birther queen Orly Taitz is leading the GOP senate primary in Ca. to face Sen. Diane Feinstein. In the meantime, she has teamed up with Nevada’s illustrious Sharon Angle to fight that horrible scourge of voter fraud:

Obama Team all over it! Here we go again. My God, if the President does not beat this guy like a drum, then something is fishy in Denmark.
The President has a bunch of attack dogs on his side. For once. I like it!
My heart aches for Press Secretary Jay Carney. The jackals are just insufferable. The questions are beyond silly and petty. It’s just embarrassing. At least two or three jackals have gone back to votes that then Senator Barack Obama made back in 2005 to try and accuse him of hypocrisy. The 2008 campaign has been over for a long time now but the jackals keep going back to the well to justify their stupid questions.
My heart poured out to him today, too. He just looks like he’s had enough of their silliness. When they started digging back to PBO’s senate history, I could have screamed. There must have been a memo because it seemed pretty orchestrated, led by Ed Henry. Really, really idiotic. And then they also asked the same damn question about the SC they threw at Josh Earnest several times and Jay had to say, um, Josh already pounded that pavement, boys. UGH.
Carney displays a tremendous amount of patience. Another thing Bill Press said during his C-Span book event was that the White House correspondents are lazy and just repeat what the Republicans say rather than do their own work.
Thanks Sharon. It’s nice to get that confirmation from Bill Press. I have never seen a lazier bunch of sheep in my life. I always say that it would make more sense for Speaker Boehner and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to be sitting in the front row asking the questions. It would be more efficient because it would eliminate the jackals as water carriers.
Holy Moly……
OOPS…
ooooh, wasn’t she on the dream short list of GOP VP potentials?
hahahahhahahhahahhahahhahahahhahhahahahahahhahhahahahhhhahahhahhahahhahahhahahhahahhahahhahahahhahhahhaha
hahahhahhaahhhahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahhaahhaha
hahahhahhahhahhahahhhhahahahhahhahahahhahahhahhahhahahhahahhahhahahhahhahahahahahhahhahahhahahhahahahahaha
hahahhahahhhahahahahahhahahahhahhahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahhahahahaha
:crying: :crying: hahahhahahhahahahhahahhahahhahahhahhahahahhahahhaahhahahahahaha
Garsh…
You lie!
Ryan was appearing at a National Journal policy summit, and was asked by the moderator why his budget didn’t mirror the Pentagon’s budget advice.
ROBERTS: Why did the committee choose to go against the advice of the generals?
RYAN: We don’t think the generals are giving us their true advice. We don’t think the generals believe that their budget is really the right budget. I believe that the president’s budget by virtue of the fact that when he released his budget number of about $500 billion, the number was announced at the same time they announced the beginning of their strategy review of the Pentagon’s budget. So what we get from the Pentagon is more of a budget driven strategy, not a strategy driven budget.
Yes. Paul Ryan just said that senior U.S. military officials and commanders were lying to Congress about their support for the budget request for defense, the request that is strongly supported by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Paul Ryan just called our military leaders liars.
Rock Center had a story about finding jobs for returning vets-naturally didn’t mention anything about the President’s efforts in that line.
New post everyone:
