    Way to go, Robin.

VC had posted a link to this video in a tweet in the previous thread ….

As is the case with many of Louie’s videos, it’s poignant and could not be more motivational. Just hope it is spread widely.

And, reminding those who need to face facts, central among those facts being that our President had, from 20 Jan 2025 on, a large portion of Congress not merely disagreeing with certain aspects of his policies but laser focused on destroying him irrespective of the consequences. Well, they failed.

My old home town. Appleton is a lovely city. Once one of the most conservative areas of the country, it has mellowed significantly. It was there that I marched in a torch light parade (now a thing of the past) campaigning for Richard Nixon in 1960. (Please, I was 13 years old). It was there that people lined the streets to watch Joe McCarthy’s funeral procession, many in tears.

Yes, things have changed. And the Lawrence campus is beautiful.

I went to Lawrence and well remember Appleton’s more conservative days. It is a beautiful city and a great campus and college, and I am so delighted that our First Lady is speaking at my alma mater!!!

She is totally spell-binding, she is laying it out, precisely as it was in 2009 and just how dangerous the situation was and our President didn’t play games, political or otherwise, and got to work solving the problems. And!!!

And I missed FLOTUS because the energy company chose just that time to ring my doorbell to offer me an updated water heater guaranteed to save me $10-12 monthly at an increased monthly payment of $2 over my current price! Of course, if I had known it would take so long to answer questions, do paper work, AND wait till rep phoned it in and have me go over the same info with the office, I’d have said ‘no thank you’. Grrr! And, they are coming back tomorrow evening to remove and replace the old one. Precisely why I don’t usually answer the doorbell if I’m not expecting anyone!

What I need to do is not be so polite on the occasions when I get caught answering! I’ll have to practise ‘No, I’m not interested’ and if they persist, add ‘Get lost!” before closing the door. [Yeah, I wouldn`t dare, but the thought makes me feel better. ;)

To be honest, I was shocked to see Webb speaking at a rally for President Obama. He really seemed kind of anti-Obama when he was active in the Senate. I was in my kitchen and couldn’t see the tv when I heard him on “The Last Word” and had to come down to my family room to see who was giving such a great speech. Couldn’t believe it was Webb. Thanks for the link.

As a former shipmate, I am glad he did well and came to PBO defense. Personally, I never really liked him and I remember his picture in the military. I believe he was Chief Naval Officer or something on the other. He was one of the Vice President candidates that was interviewed by PBO’s team. I recall reading that he was not happy that he wasn’t picked. I actually prayed for Joe Biden. I have always liked Joe.

Unfortunately, that is not the uniform a female marine wears. LOL. Marines are our little brother that can kick our a____. We share bases with them and military academy in Annapolis. I think at one time, they were under the Navy along with the Coast Guard. I just remember he was in my upper, upper chain of command. Perhaps, Department of Navy. TOD Shipmates — is this right?? He was much more consistently on our side than rats like Lieberman and what’shisname from WVA. Although I do give a pass to the WVA guy. They sure don’t like O over there, so he’s gotta do what he’s gotta do. Webb was a long time republican and actually thought he was gonna be more of a pain in the ass than he turned out to be. I worked hard for Webb even though I was skeptical of him cuz we just couldn’t have macaca Allen. Now he’s back and we’re gittin’ set to whop his ass all over again.

High Expectations for Romney in Debate

Michelle Cottle: “Romney may be a good debater. He may even be a great debater. But at this point his team has fumbled the expectations game to the point where the governor will need to perform at a level well above anything we’ve seen from him to date if he wants to pull off the “W.” Just holding his own against the president — often a challenger’s primary hurdle — won’t change the game, and, at this point, a game changer is what people are demanding.”

    • 49 COS

Like Randi Rhodes said, PBO’s dilema is not knowing which Romney will show up because he has had so many positions on issues. :)

It’s ridiculous that pundits are trying to sell the idea that a “strong performance” is all that Mitt needs to turn things around. He’s still got a mountain of lies to overcome. Still advocating the same limited, failed tax and deregulation policies that got the country into trouble, and which have been proven to not create a single job. He’s still got to explain embracing the Paul Ryan plan to kill Medicare, starve poor and hungry children, rob veterans of their earned benefits. He’s still warmongering and proposing to outsource his role as Commander in Chief of the US armed forces to Benjanim Netanyahu, and is even now contemplating a return to torture. He still called Dick Cheney an inspiration, and he’s surrounded himself with Bush’s advisers from his failed presidency. He’s still massively failed on the international stage. He still can’t name any countries - or is naming countries that haven’t existed in over a decade (USSR, Czechoslovakia). He’s still planning to explode the deficit by another $5 trillion to give him and his billionaire cronies a massive tax cut and destroy the middle class.

He could perform in a stellar fashion. It won’t change reality. A reality that is becoming more and more obvious even to the casual observer.

Plus he is already acting like he does not want the job. If Robme could not handle being Gov of MASS how the hell can he handle being President of the United States. Reagan failed as president by letting others run his WH and GWB failed by letting others run his WH…..The USA can’t afford another failure.

Let’s be honest. If the media comes out and says that Romneybot 2.0 won the first debate by a landslide, how can this be contested? Seems like the media wants a horse race and that’s what they’ll create, even if that defies reality. I expect that by Thursday morning, Morning Joe will be hyping up a Romneybot debate win.

    • 56 FiredUpInCA
      September 28, 2025 at 5:55 pm

Recently when he was in Ohio, Mitt decided to raise the expectation stakes by doing some trash talkin’.

“Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney joked today that Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio., plays President Obama so well in their debate prep session that afterwards he wants to “kick him out of the room.”

“He plays Barack Obama, he plays him well, too,” Romney told the crowd gathered for a rally at the Dayton International Airport where Portman appeared with him today. “After the, you know, hour and a half or so is over, I’m like, I want to kick him out of the room he’s so good.”

Romney insisted that Portman claims that it is actually him who wins their practice debates.

“When he gets finished he said, ‘You beat me again. You beat me again,’” Romney added of Portman, “Well, he likes my arguments, you see. He’s the better debater, but he likes my arguments better. He knows they’re right.”

      http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/09/romney-jokes-portman-plays-obama-too-well-in-debate-prep/

No one in their right mind, in either party, does something like this. Everyone knows you under promise and over deliver or strive for a draw.

Everyone knows this. Except for the GOP nominee for President.

    • 65 lisalovesobama
      September 28, 2025 at 5:42 pm

my advice is not to worry about how good of a debater Willard is- he isn’t but compared to those hooligans, he looked like a prince among trolls- I’m more concerned about all the lies he’s going to be telling about PBO and his ‘fact-checking.’ I’m more worried about the role of the moderators. are they going to call Willard on his BS ‘fact-checking’? that’s what i want to know.
ps- both sides are trying to lower expectations, it’s a safety net for both of them just in case either one comes out of the first debate branded by the press as ‘Not the Winner.” my guess is that this serves PBO two fold: 1) it’s a safety net just in case, cause… never say never. 2) it’s a trojan horse. Lull Team WIllard into a false sense of security and then bring down the sledgehammer.

    • 66 Obama Grandmama
      September 28, 2025 at 9:47 pm

You never know what Willard will say since he just says what he thinks will help him win. He may totally decide to be the same as PBO and have nothing different. It looks like he will try to say PBO is lying about everything. The problem with the debates is they seem more like a live commercial with the questions used to spew talking points and OH YEAH always get the zinger in. The charts with a neutral party listing the candidates positions from what they have previously said seems a better measure to judge by. I remember Sarah Palin saying I may not answer the questions as you expect me to and all she did was spew talking points and push her own agenda. Now I fear that may be what happens. Plus the media decides who wins. The positive on that is the audience did not agree with them when they said McCain won.

Personally and with nothing but gut feeling, I suspect that Romney will do fine, but not well enough to matter. I keep going back to what I’ve said in the past. I think people still underestimate Obama’s debating skills. The always bring up the Philly debate with Hilary which from then on influenced all his other debates with Hilary…Obama sexist towards Hilary and of course the PUMA phenomenon. Then the “that one” with McCain, but in those cases all the punditry scored those debates for McCain with the exception of the “that one” debate. And low and behold when non-Village idiots were asked to score the debate, Obama won them all.

    • 69 pkayden
      September 28, 2025 at 6:15 pm

I recall that the pundits claimed Obama didn’t do well during the 2008 debates, but the audience always scored him higher. That may happen again this year. What could Romney possibly say to change people’s misgivings about him? Nothing.

To be honest, I’m a woman, and I’ve never figured out what was so wrong about then Candidate Obama’s “you’re likable enough” comment. And now that I know a little bit more about the man, President Obama, and how he holds individual dignity as sacred, I honestly can’t think that anyone would have taken offense at that comment. From the first time I heard it (and I was a staunch Hillary fan back then), I took it as him not liking the rude question that she was asked, and trying to support her by saying that the original comment about her likability was in poor taste. I never thought he was being sexist - and I still don’t.

“I don’t even like the word politics,” Jay-Z told MTV News. ”It implies something underhanded and I think we need less government.”

Despite his support for the President, Jay-Z’s “less government” viewpoint is more in line with Obama’s opponents on the right, such as Republican candidate Mitt Romney, who also calls for smaller government. But his stance on smaller government aside, Jay-Z is all in for the president’s re-election.

“I support Barack because I gotta respect that sort of vision. I gotta respect a man who is the first black President ever,” he said. “To have that sort of vision and dream, I have to support that.”

Jay-Z made a point to distance himself with the ways of most politicians.

“To be honest with you I think a lot of people are serving their own agendas, so they just argue back and forth and they think about their next term,” Jay-Z said. ”And it’s more about themselves than about the people. They’re servicing the people, but we rarely get anything done because they’re going back and forth with whatever they’re doing, so I’m not really into politics.”

sorry, chips. after some traveling, i was surprised to see this, and i won’t say another word on the topic right now (and won’t engage, and didn’t mean for others too either). it’s just that i’ve found myself not coming here as much to read the comments because of what i feel is a few people spreading so much “sky is falling” stuff and msm stenography (don’t we all know what joe scar and andrea greenspan will say every day “republicans good, democrats bad” no matter how much evidence to the contrary?). this place and most of the people here have been so important to me for a while now, and it saddens me to find myself drifting away more and more because of that. i will not type another word about it today, and thanks for running this place! forward to 14 million hits!

She interviewed John Kerry and she asked Kerry about the letter and Kerry explained that it was a bi-partisan letter to get more information. It was not political. But Kerry should have known better that the right is looking for an opening. I do understand why he did it, as Chairman. However, had that been a GOPer, they would not have done it. So the right is trying to use the letter to gin up that Kerry is against what pres Obama on the Libya attack. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Holy Elephant. Ann Romney said that Mitt was nothing or that without her, Mitt is lost…..something like that weeks ago. Now she is worried about his mental well being?

Folks, George Romney after visiting some troops or what have you during ‘Nam, he came back and said that they had brain washed him. His candidacy was officially over in 1968. Does Ann Romney know what she speaks? Can this video pr audio be made into a tweet format? Wow…..this is huge. Ann Romney is now telling Us that Willard is so fragile that his brain can be compromised? This is huge.

No one knows a husband like his wife. So add something else to the pot, why Mitt Romney should not be President, his mental well being. Now we know why he lies so easily. Didn’t Ann say that Mitt’s father was crazy?

        September 28, 2025 at 7:39 pm

We need a video/audio and we need to get this information to those in Chicago. We also need to make this go viral. George Romney was off the 1968 elections for saying that he was brain washed. This is close to it, right. Ann Knows Mitt the Twit more than any one, right?

She did the same thing during one of their joint interviews early on. The host was talking about Mitt’s dad and Ann piped up and said, ‘Mitt’s dad was crazy!’ Well, Mitt and the host looked extremely surprised at that. Note, it was his being labeled as crazy that caused his dad to drop out of his presidential race. He claimed to have been brainwashed while visiting Viet Nam. Well, good old Annie confirmed what everyone was saying about him. I’ve always said that she is worse than him when it comes to unscripted conversation. Even when it’s scripted, the handlers are on pins and needles.

You have to believe this comment is giving the Romney-Ryan campaign AGITA. The problem is that I think a lot of people feel like Mitt Romney is a sociopath. He has turned “PROJECTION” into an art form. A few days ago, Jim Acosta of CNN, actually confronted Mitt Romney about his ads not being truthful and specifically about the welfare ad. Mitt said that everything was above board. If there is a problem with an ad his campaign corrects. it. We all know he was doing what he does best in that response - he was lying his arse off.

She was dead serious. Mitt and the host was shocked. Mitt finally said something like, ‘you’re calling my dad crazy?’ I believe her reply was something like ‘yeah’. It was embarrassing. I’ll try to find it on the tubz and get a link.

    Not Worried About the Debates
    by BooMan

Personally, I am not very worried about the debates. People like Joe Biden and he’s a pretty good debater. He probably had the best line of the 2008 debates when he came up with that thing about Guiliani, a noun, a verb, and 9/11. He did a great job against Palin in what was frankly an otherworldly and starbursty situation. As for the presidential debates, the last two shouldn’t be a problem. The second debate is a town hall forum with a Long Island audience of “undecided” voters. That’s home field territory for Obama. The last debate is on foreign policy, where it will be nearly impossible for Romney to make any progress on discussing the economy. It’s the first debate that will focus exclusively on domestic issues that offers Romney his chance to shine. Except, you know, he wants to destroy Medicare and take away your home mortgage deduction to finance a tax break on rich people and corporations.
    Are you worried?

So Halperin is as much as shill for Romney as the next person, so what’s his bag on this statement about “giving” POTUS the edge. Maybe Halperin’s just hedging his bets, or he’s heard something, or he’s helping to play up the expectations game for his friends at the Romney camp. Espcecially, since I’ve seen in almost every darn interview and segment he’s done on MSNBC that he always tries to go out of hi way to say gotta win this, maybe the Romney camp said, hey, “stop it! you’re putting the expectation too high”.

Now all of a suddent he says this:

If I was going to give the edge to one of them it’d be the President, simply because, between his debates with then-Senator Clinton and his debates against John McCain, he’s not going to have that hard-swallow moment when he’s out there dealing with the pressure.

The President is well aware of everything Mitt Romney is going to try to say and if Mitt Romney succeeds in getting off a critique of the President — that he’s been a failure or that he doesn’t tell the truth — you can bet that the President is going to have a pretty good comeback. Because almost every accusation that Mitt Romney can make, the President can make a counter accusation on the same point. It’s that moment, if Romney pulls it off, I am confident the President will come back. Can Romney then respond again in an effective way? We’ve never seen him do that.

When did Queen Ann say this? That woman is really messed up. And it looks like both she and Willard are just operating in a world of their own. Had the media been doing their jobs, this nightmare would have been OVER by know.

    • 150 susanne
      September 28, 2025 at 8:05 pm

just another crazy-assed quote from queen ann, i guess.

the media have a double standard, for sure-they expect the rethugs to talk crazy, so that’s not news. when they say something halfway reasonable, it’s so unusual it makes big headlines. when pbo or flotus say reasonable things, it’s normal and not news. if they say anything a little iffy, then pow, big headlines.

so if you were trying to decide who these people are, you’d say, wow-rethugs say reasonable stuff and pbo says iffy stuff. but really, it’s just what’s ‘newsworthy’. a grim reminder that the media are not concerned with educating and informing; they’re all about shock and ad$.

my hope (yes, i do hope) is that the re-election of pbo, and the settling in of a democratic senate and a democratic majority house, will re-energize the forces of reason, and citizenship, and civility in this country in a way that effects the way media operate. because i am sick of this shit.
