I love pumpkin pie! But my sister is hosting and she does not like much that is pumpkin. We are having yellow cake with choc icing and coconut creme pie. That is fine; I like both. Since hubby and son are also not inclined to pumpkin, and since I do not need to consume an entire pumpkin pie solo (hear the rationalization in my discourse): I bought myself the makings for pumpkin martinis! The taste of pumpkin pie plus a little extra!
I’d like to think the attacks on the ACA will fade in time but the RW still complains about and plots against SS and Medicare. They have zero chance of stopping any of these programs but their zeal doesn’t diminish. Crazy. no other explanation, is there?
I’m surprised at Alabama and Louisiana on the map. It would appear that these two states have a lower % of uninsured than the rest of the south. The rest of the map is pretty much what I expected. I wonder how the ‘count’ was done?
Someone posted a link to PBO and family at the foodbank on the last thread - clicking on the “slideshow” link gives a great collection of pictures of what is happening today (actually yesterday in my world - very time confusing)

VIDEO: Norman Ornstein and Thomas Mann Explain Why Congress is Failing Us
April 26, 2025
————————————-
Political scholars Norman Ornstein and Thomas Mann tell Bill that Congress’ failure to make progress on gun control last week — despite support for background checks from 90 percent of the American public — is symptomatic of a legislative branch reduced to dysfunction, partisan ravings and obstruction.
A year ago, the two — who had strong reputations as non-partisan analysts – decided to speak truth to power with their book It’s Even Worse Than It Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided with the New Politics of Extremism. In it, they argue that congressional gridlock is mostly the fault of right wing radicals within the Republican Party who engage in “policy hostage-taking” to extend their political war against the president.
What’s more, Ornstein and Mann say, the mainstream media and media fact-checkers add to the problem by indulging in “false equivalency” — pretending both parties are equally to blame.
Given that it is the media that continually give space to & support the GOP and its extremism - it is truly frustrating that the truth is continually hidden from a large % of the american people
My daughter is spending Thanksgiving in Puerto Rico with the fiance. We’ll be going to our friends house for dinner. My contribution will be sweet potato pie. Whenever we go elsewhere for Thanksgiving dinner, I always cook something at home…hubby’s gotta have those leftovers!
Wishing my TOD Family a safe, happy and blessed holiday. Much love to you all!
Happy Thanksgiving Arapaho! White Sands is an incredible place. Never had a thought to go there, but we were visiting friends in Las Cruces and they took us there. New Mexico is an interesting place to say the least. Hubby always wanted to live in the Southwest so that’s pretty much why were here. I’m enjoying living here.
When I was a teenager my family went on a “National Parks” tour one summer.
I insisted on White Sands, and loved it. Gypsum sand sounded so romantic and exotic to me. I’ve been back since, and kids “snowboard” on the dunes. Great fun.
BTW, my avatar is from NatGeo of a storm over Las Cruces.
Love NM cuisine and the blend of Mexican/Native cultures.
Understand about the leftovers….I’ve done the same thing. Cooked a small meal at home for us to have later, when we go somewhere else. This year, it’s at our house, as it was last year. I fix the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. My daughter brings a couple of veggie casseroles and rolls, Jeff’s mom brings oyster dressing, and Jody, their aunt, brings her absolutely scrumptious pies. Jeff…our son-in-law fixes the whipped cream….somehow it’s better than any other. Then, I get to set the table, something I love to do, and already did today…..I’m using Christmas dishes this year since it’s so late. House is clean, table is set, turkey is fresh…..so tomorrow will be easy.
Blessings to all of you. Our son and family come Friday, so my cup runneth over.
The late night Thanksgiving turkey sandwich with a glass of chardonnay is the best part of Thanksgiving! And maybe a side of the cranberry sauce or relish ….
Like Palin’s killing of the turkey’s video, Ryan will forever be known for washing the clean pots and pans - they excel with the “kindness of the season” - hahahaha
The extra boost given to those who saw the President at the foodbank will stay with them forever - priceless - absolutely priceless. They probably could have walked away empty handed and still had their best ever thanksgiving
Just typical Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Everyone here KNOWS that today is the worst traffic day of the year. Second worst is Halloween, or at least it was when the time change happened before Halloween.
Same story every single year, not a nightmare, just a given.

Good evening, TOD fam! Thanks for the congrats left on the last thread. Amk, the bar is open, come and get it.
Wishing you and your’s a wonderful Thanksgiving. Holiday is bittersweet for me, missing all of the family members whom have gone on to the great beyond. Blessed to still have my Mom alive and kicking — we’re going to the movies and then dinner at my home. Feel blessed that even though I’ve been ill and haven’t felt up to going out to shop, I’m able to assemble a wonderful meal from the contents of my freeze and pantry. Feel blessed that for once, while sick in bed, I used my time wisely — I addressed all of my Christmas cards and party invitations; they went into the mail last evening, I figured they would be delivered on Friday — wrong, even my cousins in New Jersey received theirs today! Attacks on the Affordable Care Act have stepped up over the last week or so. You’d think that the healthcare reform known as Obamacare is leading to the wholesale loss of affordable insurance by huge sectors of the American public, many of whom will be impoverished by being forced into low-quality health plans at exorbitant prices.
You’d think the entire reform is on “life support,” as the usually judicious National Journal put it today, speculating that Democrats may soon start calling for its repeal.
Don’t buy the hype. The numbers tell an entirely different story. What they also demonstrate is that the myth of Obamacare’s “failure” is a product of the same Republican noise machine that has been working to undermine this crucial reform since Day One. It’s assisted by news reporting about canceled health policies that typically ranges from woefully misinformed to spectacularly ignorant, and even at its best is incomplete.

Yes, Bob! It really is amazing. I can’t tell how I felt seeing that precious young lady in those shoes. I adore her even more. She made me feel “hip” again! :)
As noted, a pair of shoes laces people from different continents together in shared memories - just amazing!!! And, without the Internet and communities like TOD we’d never know!!!

Yesterday TOD posted Rouhani’s version of Will I. Am’s famous PBO “Yes We Can” speech video. Many wondered what the message of the song was. Well, voila. A version appeared on Rouhani’s Youtube channel with English subtitles.
Sadly NYT & other media report that this video is not being shown on Iranian media where women are banned from singing publicly. So it’s limited to Rouhani’s Social Media. Also restricted inside Iran.
Thank you, zizi, for posting the English subtitle version. We can all be assured that clever Iranians (and they are definitely clever) are sharing the video, robustly!!! :)
Good evening TOD family. What a week and what a day for all of us. So much to be thankful for.
Now I am baking the pies for tomorrow. I make pumpkin and pecan. I cook up the pumpkins from Halloween and use my mother’s family recipe that’s over 100 years old. It’s my favorite pie. My husband’s is pecan. I have had to make up my own recipe because my husband can’t have anything with corn in it especially corn syrup. My recipe uses brown sugar, agave syrup and pear brandy. It is very good.
I am now going back and catching up on all that has gone on yesterday and today. We were able to watch Popcorn being pardoned. The girls sure have grown into such beautiful young ladies.
Wish the MSM could be more supportive. Can;t understand ’em
Congrats for your Gold,
Thanks Nena.
Great usable summary UT!
They shill for the GOP - that is all there is to understand. When the old media collapses under their corporate debt - which will happen when they run out of real workers to retrench - they will learn about life without employer insurance - and be screaming for single payer health care.
THIS is hilarious!!
JEB, Barbara Bush told Us early this year:

JEB, Barbs was right. STFU.
Never heard about this faux controversy until just reading about it here. I guess it hasn’t caught on yet in the blogosphere (thankfully).

My pumpkin martini comment did not make it: was at the end of the last post. Sad.
I appreciated it. It started out so sad—-no pumpkin pie——and then!—-it turned out so happy!—-the Pumpkin Martini Solution!
Yes, I am making myself one tomorrow;,shall I make two? One for you??!
Sounds good. Are you going to be in pourable distance of me—-like, in Indy? If not, I’ll just have to dream about it.
No where near Indy dotster3: this one shall just have to be a cyber-martini. Maybe someday we shall all meet … would that not be awesome? And Liberal Librarian can bring the drinks for everyone (is he in listening range?)! Lol.

Ok, Sasha just earned cool points with me. She’s wearing Doc Martins in the pictures in the previous threads. She’s gonna be a punk rock grrl.
I showed her Doc Martins to my son; his are on order but not as cool as hers. Course he is a 39 yr. old male. He normally wears Clark’s Desert Boots.

Just went to the orange for the last time - what a racist bunch they turned into - cannot believe what I started reading.
Wonder if Boehner and his family participated in a service project the day before Thanksgiving, as our President and his family did.
Never mind - I know the answer.
Maybe Paul Ryan?
Never mind - we don’t need a reminder of his big campaign trip to wash clean pots at the food kitchen, cameras blazing.
;)
Boehner’s been drunk all day and Ryan … who knows …. probably spent hours looking at himself in the mirror curling a 2 lb dumbbell ….
I thought at first you had typed “dumbass.”
Ha!

Gawd, I don’t know how people in LA can stand all the cars and the long distances to get anywhere.
I hate traffic, hafe sitting on the freeway.
I avoid it by traveling early in the morning and using side routes.
