Hey UT. I am surprised that I was first. I just finished watching the last episode of “Breaking Bad” and my head is still spinning. :)

I finished the last episode at 2AM this morning and my sleep was messed up as hell. My head was spinning, I couldn’t get the episode out of my head. It was sooooo good and so nightmarish that I had to give up on sleep.

One of the best shows I have ever watched. The song that was played during the last scene was perfect. The lyrics matched Walter White to a meth creating T.

      okay, since they’re busy cooking…. :)

we’re having ginger and garlic noodles, with a topping of flash fried snow peas, zukes, green onions, and ahi. to drink, a new zealand sauvignon blanc, and for dessert almond shortbread.

and at midnight, i’ll be on the porch with my soup pot and big spoon, banging away any pesky bad luck that might want to slip in to our lives in the crack between the years!

6:40 here in Albuquerque. I have a ribeye roast roasting – – brilliant to roast a roast! I don’t remember the last time I did any kind of a roast. It’s simple, but overcooking quality meat is mindless, horrible pattern I have. WILL NOT! Then Yukon gold mashed potatoes and roast broccoli with garlic and red chile olive oil (hey, the oven is on!)

have mercy! red chile olive oil, garlic and anything is dizzying! sad to report, potatoes in hawaii are usually stale, sour, and just plain bad. fresh yukon golds are like honey–savor a bite for me!

I’m done! Pay attention to the lyrics of the song played during the last scene of the season.

It just cemented the brilliance that is Breaking Bad.

UT – Isn’t that song PERFECT?!??!! I remember it growing up. Before BB it had a few thousand hits on Youtube. I just checked it and now has 3.5 million!! Do you recognize the guy who introduces the band? Not by face but by voice – it took me awhile but I finally figured out who it was.

I’ve never heard the song before, but when I heard it as it played in that crucial and perfect scene, it sent chills through me and made me smile.

          Is the guy, Kenny Rogers?

Yes! It is Kenny Rogers introducing it on his show from back then. Oh man, that song was in my teenage years and was a song guys loved to sing. I remember my brothers singing along to it. I watched the last episode live a few months ago at a house party but I was the only one there old enough to remember the song. I was going a little nuts when it first started as I hadn’t heard it in 20 years and the rest of the party was like calm down girl. I couldn’t imagine how someone came up with that. And to save it for the very last episode where you know what happens. :)

 That must have evoked very nice memories for you.

The choice of song for the last scene still has me reeling. It made me wonder if Vince Gilligan worked backwards or created a pilot and then an outline of the arc of the story and the end, with that song in mind. It’s just so eerily perfect. Plus, the meth was blue!

Watching the series, I felt such strong emotions for Walter White – sympathy, anger, frustration, confusion, and then loss. It is a testament to how well Bryan Cranston inhabited the role of Walt. He takes the viewer on a roller coaster of emotions and thoughts.

I will be thinking about the show for years and years to come. One of the most brilliantly written, acted, detail oriented, and well thought out shows on TV with an A++++ ending. I couldn’t have envisioned a more perfect ending.

Your thoughts about Walter White are more nuanced than most and I’m still sorting it out. I really didn’t know what to think of him for the last 2 seasons. I don’t think I was silently cheering for him but I didn’t wish him harm either. Yet I wasn’t ambivalent I was so emotionally torn. And I had a soft spot for Jesse as he had such a big heart and reminded me of so many young kids where the parents seem to give up on them and let them know it. You could see him yearning for direction from somebody and in particular Mr. White and never getting it. Talk about the school of hard knocks lol.

Somebody mentioned this the other day on TOD and I want to second it; I really would like to have a Breaking Bad day on TOD in January where everyone who has watched it can share some thoughts and clips of it.

One of the few non-political public events that POTUS thoroughly gets to enjoy at the White House is welcoming the winning national sports team to the White House and in kind, they love meeting him. So for me this is a fun moment that was a bit of an inside story for Chicagoans. One of the big stars of the Stanley Cup was Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford (imho he should have been the series MVP) who gave a heartfelt shout-out to his fellow players in the Grant Park celebration. :) POTUS of course had heard it and enjoyed putting him on the spot. AWESOMENESS. The players and coaches loved it!

Prayer to Mrs. Bush and to family. This is pneumonia season so folks take precautions…wash hands and be careful about the folks you are around who might be sick. My mother got pneumonia on Xmas day and was sick for a whole month.

We don’t have to support their husbands, but we also don’t have to be hateful, nasty and ugly, either. You know like the right is to our FLOTUS. I hope the best for Mrs. B. Bush.

The Rose Parade was mentioned somewhere earlier. My granddaughter, Kalee, will be marching in the Hawaii All-State Marching Band. They will be the 12th attraction in the parade and the first high school band. She is playing tuete (Tahitian log drum). There are three rows of tuetes. She is in the middle of the first row of tuetes, right behind the tubas. They marched and performed in the nightly parade at Disneyland on the 27th. I am so excited!!
